Price/performance ratio leaves something to be desired
An Italian restaurant that, judging by the hustle and bustle, should actually be good. If you're passing through on a Friday evening and you can barely get a table for two without a reservation, that actually means that the restaurant should be recommended based on how busy it is. Or so you'd think. Far from it. It's incredibly cramped in Salerno's. In the upper dining area, which can only be reached via a very steep and narrow metal staircase, the tables are extremely close together. The metal table legs are all lined with folded paper napkins so that they don't wobble. And they wobble quite a bit if the napkin slips! The chairs made of transparent polyacrylic exude a late nineties atmosphere, which is in stark contrast to the prices on the menu. There isn't a single dish there that evening for less than 15 euros, not even pizza. The service tries hard, but unfortunately seems either overwhelmed or poorly trained and the guest finds them to be floating around in chaos. When the service staff loudly asks the kitchen or the restaurant manager what "Bressaola" is, that does not indicate that the service staff have been properly briefed. Three waitresses came to our table one after the other to take our order. We had already placed our order with the first one, but the other two still came to ask us about our order, even though everything is actually entered on an ordering tablet and it should therefore be clear that this table has already ordered. But there were no table numbers to be seen. Perhaps something is wrong with the restaurant organization. There were also hand-written reservation labels on the tables that had been torn off some piece of paper, which also suggests that the reservation system is chaotic and unprofessional. After our food and drinks were served after a reasonable wait time, another waitress came with a fully loaded drinks tray and wanted to unload these drinks onto our table, even though it was not our order. She was quite confused by this. The two pizzas we had were good, the toppings were sufficient, the base was crispy, and they came with an extra knife to cut the crust. However, I found my pizza (from the Bianco segment) to be a bit too dry. My switch (spinach instead of broccoli) was carried out, no complaints. However, both pizzas were definitely not worth more than 16 euros (per pizza!). Sorry, that's too expensive. Other pizzas that I could see at neighboring tables were partly quite burnt around the edges. The place is very loud, very stuffy, has almost no daylight (just a small window at the bottom), and to get to the toilet you have to take a complicated route - completely impossible in my opinion - through the service area (yes, you heard right!!!). In addition, the toilets are in the basement and can only be reached via another staircase. Why this restaurant seems to be so busy is a real mystery to me. The price/performance ratio is not right at all here. If I ever want to eat pizza in Heidelberg again, I know where I won't go. Sorry and ciao, Salerno's!
Not recommended
We didn't eat there, but ordered food to be delivered to our home. Our food finally arrived after almost 2 hours. Unfortunately, the order was incorrect. My pizza was probably not gluten-free, even though I had ordered a gluten-free one. At least I noticed how my body reacted and therefore assume that the pizza contained gluten. There was also cheese on it, which I hadn't ordered. I had to choose tomato sauce separately, I could have chosen cheese, but I didn't. When I complained about the wrong delivery, they tried to make me understand that it was my fault and that nothing could be done about it. Because every pizza has tomato sauce and cheese on it (they also have pizza bianca and pizza with vegan cheese. So they contradict themselves). After a little angry speech, I finally received my real food after two and a half hours. Meanwhile, my wife had long since finished eating and my appetite had gone, but hunger drove it down. I had ordered reusable containers. My food was delivered in disposable containers without me being informed. I will never order from there again. The delivery service is terrible and customer service is a foreign concept.
Very bad delivery service, cold pizza, no refund/discount
Pizza was delivered ice cold. After contacting the restaurant to find out how to deal with this, it was made clear that they didn't care. No wonder the pizza was cold. Preparation and delivery were an hour apart. The pizza tasted only mediocre after we had to heat it up.
Delivery service of the restaurant not recommended
The delivery man was friendly and the pizzas we ordered were very good. The two salads (goat's cheese with truffle) were too simple for the high price. The pizza bread was burnt. That wouldn't have been acceptable in a restaurant. We are very disappointed.
