Fantastic Sri Lankan food.
Best in the neighborhood. Not really a restaurant since the pandemic. They have no seating. Food is takeout only. I've gotten the deviled pork deviled prawns, mutton khotthu roti, lamprais, mutton rolls and fish rolls and probably plenty of other things that I've forgotten about and everything's been fantastic.

We called ahead to be sure they were open and the person on the phone did not tell us there is no longer a restaurant here. It was only after we'd trekked all the way out to Staten Island that we learned that the place is now takeout and catering only. And there's nowhere within walking distance where you can sit down and eat. We went to New Asha Sri Lankan Restaurant instead and had a fabulous meal.

Takeout is amazing. I highly recommend the roti house special.

We ordered a small catering order for an engagement party, food was delicious, specially fish bun was really good. The order was placed 3 weeks prior to the party, and they prepared our food exactly on time as promised. Thank you for delicious Sri Lankan short eats.

We drove all the way from New Jersey to try the Sri Lankan food. I must say owner and the staff is very friendly. Food is Hugh quality and portions are generally big. Highly recommend

This place is not a legitimate restaurant by any means. Don't even try going there. It's a makeshift soup kitchen where you walk in and the waitress pretends you don't exist. When you finally reveal your self to the untrained waitress, and she finally acknowledge your existence in this 100% empty space, she informs you most of the items on the menu don't really exist, much like other patrons. The other half of the menu is made of ghetto recipes that encompass a chicken biryani without the chicken... instead replaced with a single drum stick. The audacity! This place is a joke and pretends to be ethnic when in reality its made up of several character who have no business running a restaurant establishment!Disappointed beyond words.

The family that runs the restaurant was extremely friendly to us. A nice place to go if you're visiting Staten Islandn

Fresh, flavorful, friendly! Loved Sagara and delighted we chose it for our first (and long-awaited) foray into the SI Sri Lankan restaurant scene. We went on a Sunday afternoon when the buffet was available, which allowed us to try a huge range of dishes. We absolutely loved the chicken and fish. The beef itself was uneven - some quite tough and some fine - but the mustardy sauce was spectacular. The banana curry and dal were knock-your-socks-off delicious. The breads were beautiful to look at and fun though not particularly tasty, except for a sort of mini-dosa filled with chick peas. ย The veg dishes were served in pretty clay pots. The owner was lovely and eager to explain the food and its origins. We ate more than we should have ($12.99 each) and would happily return to try more. Worth the schlep (subway, ferry, walk) and will be back. Sagara is the closest of the Sri Lankan restaurants to the ferry. I don't know if it's the best because I haven't (yet) tried the others, but this is not to be missed.

I live upstate and never get to Staten Island, but I had to go there on a work related errand yesterday. Even though it was a seven hour round trip, I was not going to miss the opportunity to try some Sri Lankan food. I'm so pleased to have chosen Sagara. I was there at an odd hour 4 P.M. and was the only one there. Tried the vegetable kottu and the masala dosa which were both fantastic. I have one more trip to S.I. coming up, and I will be back for more.

Incredible food, worth the field trip from Queens to Staten Island. Ordered String Hoppers, Lamprais and Kuttu Parotha. Great value. Wish I lived closer!

I have eaten multiple times at this restaurant in over the last 8, maybe 10 years. I really like spicy Indian. This time everything was mild and not that interesting. It was a Sunday when there is a buffet and were told most available things in the kitchen would be the same as what was on the buffet. Finally decided to just get the buffet which did not look that fresh. The tastes were okay. The staff was lovely. But it just was not as good as the past.

I wanted to try Sri Lankan food and was intrigued by the affordable ($13/person) Sunday night dinner buffet. The food was quite delicious and I was impressed by the bountiful number of options that really showcased different types of Sri Lankan food. While I didn't love everything on the buffet, I appreciated the selection and some things were quite delicious! It's a small restaurant but wasn't crowded at all. Service was excellent. There was no A/C on a hot day which was okay because it cooled down at night and they had a large fan but that might be uncomfortable for some. Overall, this is a very authentic Sri Lankan spot.
