This restaurant has been around for so long and I hope it never closes. Beautiful, amazing staff, delicious food! The fish tacos, calamari and mud pie are embedded in my memory! Love coming here!
Be the first to ReplyWe sat outside at the patio and had a wonderful experience.
Highly recommend the Cajun shrimp appetizer and calamari. For main entree had the coconut shrimp and it was delicious. Very meaty and lots of pieces. They also brought out delicious cheesecake with berries for my son's birthday on the house. Overall recommend and will return ourselves.

The service was amazing! Even though it was Super busy with several large parties for Graduation celebrations. The food was another story..... it tasted great until there was a long black hair in my $46.00 scallops. The manager came over apologized and offered to make me a fresh plate. I declined obviously... Once the bill came I assumed he would have removed my meal. But no I received my bill with -$18.00 noted as kitchen error.... Seriously. You think? To add insult to injury we were Celebrating my Birthday I will not return to this Restaurant.

The food and ambiance of this restaurant was so good and amazing. If you sit near the window the view is so pretty! I went during lunch but watching the sunset here would be so pretty. Started out with the shrimp cocktail and for the entree we got salmon, scallops, and lobster Mac and cheese. I would not think of ordering the lobster mac and cheese again but everything else I would come back for! Our server was super friendly and constantly checking back if we needed anything.
Be the first to ReplyWent there for Mothers Day.
This was our 2nd time to Rusty Pelican. The valet service (Austin) was excellent! The ladies at check-in podium also were great as they read our notes and got us the seat next to the window!!!! ,They also gave a Mother's day rose to my wife. Truly impressed with the view and ambiance. The bartender was also excellent and remembered us. Our server was also very attentive, bubbly. She provided great advice on food, beer and wine. We noticed other tables next to us eating pasta dishes which were not on the limited menu we were given. When asked about those pasta dishes we were told they were out of those in the kitchen when suddenly another table that came 20-30min after us received ordered a variety of pasta dishes and received them. Not sure what is going on there with different menus. We ordered lemon grass chicken and a Cauliflower appetizer. The chicken was a little dry. The Cauliflower appetizer was to oily for us. Overall the food was a 6/10. The server disappeared towards the end of our meal, possibly went on break as all the tables around us were looking for her. Don't think we will be returning.

Food was very good however, our appetizer came after we ate our main dish. Atmosphere was a very nice. I had a reservation, which was approximately 15 minutes late. Manager more than made up for the late appetizer with a couple of desserts.
Be the first to ReplyFood was ok.
Waitress was sweet. Seating arrangement was terrible! I was literally interrupted 5 times during my meal to open the side door my chair was blocking. They literally sat me right in front of the handicap entrance. The door is locked from the outside so every time someone enters they knock waiting for me to jump to my feet and let them in. I unfortunately played door monitor my entire lunch helping customers inside. My thought is, if you're sending someone around the building to an entrance you know is locked you should probably meet them there to let them in. This didn't happen. Every time someone knocked and threw up their hands on the other side of the window I was forced to open the door and let them in, along with a massive draft of cold air. It was ridiculous!! Brussel sprouts and shrimp were great but cioppino was lacking flavor in a major way. Seafood in a red colored oil/water mixture at its best. My bill was $180 for a party of 4. High end when it comes to pricing. However, the level of service and hospitality didn't warrant a bill like this at all. Total let down!!

We had an extremely disappointing experience with the service during our visit for lunch on the Saturday before Mother's Day. Despite the restaurant appearing empty with two-thirds of the seating vacant, including many window-side tables, we were seated at a less desirable plastic table in the corner and informed that the better tables were reserved. However, these tables remained unoccupied throughout our two-hour stay, which was frustrating to witness. Additionally, the wait staff seemed to forget about us entirely, as we were left unattended for a long period without anyone taking our order. I strongly suggest that the restaurant reconsider its reservation practices and improve customer service to avoid penalizing guests who are present and ready to dine.
Be the first to ReplyWas worried after seeing some of the reviews.
. But I think those are due to people's different taste. And or what they order. However I decided to go anyways and let's get into it! Upon driving up. I asked too park my car myself as I brought a high end car. They were completely fine with it as long as I paid the parking fee. Which is VERY reasonable $8. Upon walking in we were greeted immediately. It took about 5-10mins for them to prep our table and seat us. We had reservations as well. Excellent atmosphere and view. The atmosphere here is more of an older group. Retired, rich mom and dad kinda feel. Which is great! It isn't to loud and you can actually have a conversation. We started with the garlic bread. French baguette with roasted garlic, salt and olive oil spread onto the bread. Not your ghetto garlic powder with butter bread. It was delicious. Skuna Bay Salmon entrée Salmon cooked and seasons to perfection. The lobster sauce is very light and tasty. They also did a glaze of lobster sauce mixed with a tiny bit of soy that I could taste on top. It was excellent. Rice was cooked perfectly no hard pieces. Prawns were not over cooked at all either. Halibut special ( not on the menu just ask for it ) Halibut was SO good. I'll definitely be coming back for it. Grilled well with a white wine reduction lemon sauce on a bed of garlic mash. Mash potatoes were very light compared to many places. Wasn't super heavy on butter, it was just right. I didn't even need to add salt or pepper to any of it. All the food came out great. So why the 4 stars instead of 5? The service. I feel that we could have been attended to a little bit more. We had finished our first round of drinks and I had to call the server over. They didn't check to see if we wanted more. Decor: above average clean and chill. Staff: really good for the most part. Service: could use a little bit more attention. Food: above average. Definitely better than a lot of places in the area. Bathrooms: N/A didn't use them Parking: easy with their private lot. $8 valet. Would I recommend this place? Definitely. Food is great. Atmosphere is lively and happy. View is great! I will return.
Be the first to ReplySat upstairs in the bar, and enjoyed the beautiful view.
Our server, Eric, did an outstanding job! The garlic bread (famous) was full of buttery goodness. The steamed muscles and clams went well with it and sopped up the juice. My husbands chick picatta was full of flavor & not too tart. I had a bite too- so delish. My filet mignon was superb. I substituted out the mash potatoes for asparagus (an upcharge, but fair) and it made me happy. We shared a NY Cheesecake, which the special sauce was incredible. The night was perfect from start to finish- you must come here!

It's one of those days when you wish you could give a place less than one star. Went for Sunday brunch. The service was horrible, the food was cold, the Eggs Benedict had hard boiled eggs, the manager didn't really seem to care, and the waiter sure as hell didn't care. Far too pricey to have terrible service and terrible food. If anyone ever suggests going there again, I will conveniently have other plans.
Be the first to ReplyUsed to LOVE this place.
We would come for Happy Hour at the upstairs bar area. Obsessed with the garlic bread and you could not find a better Pear Martini anywhere!Unfortunately we came for a friends birthday the other night and found out that they no longer had a Happy Hour. (At all) The staff seemed confused when we seated ourselves in the upstairs area (as that was usual in the past). We ordered some appetizers aka the garlic bread, which was one of the main reasons we went, and were completely disappointed when it came out rushed and uncooked. We waited for a long time before we finally had to ask someone if we could order something to drink, which also seemed to confuse the waiter. I ordered the clam chowder, which came out cold as if it was sitting out. We had sat in a corner and by the time the sun went down, we could barely see the table because it was so dark. Look, I can appreciate if maybe it was a busy night or something, but it was a weekday and maybe only one or two other tables had guests. I am not sure if there has been a large change in staff or maybe management....but I do not think I will go back. Sadly.
Be the first to ReplyGreat ambiance, we sat by the window overlooking the dock.
Garlic bread is really good & the sea bass I ordered was perfect. Our server was super sweet & helpful as well. No complaints!

Beautiful restaurant on the water with fantastic, reasonably priced entrees. our waiter, Cody was excellent! We had some dietary issues in our party and he handled very well. We'll be back!
Be the first to ReplyI made reservations and when I arrived I went up to the bar.
We decided to just stay at the bar since our bartender was awesome! The scenery was beautiful and our food was amazing! We ordered the lobster and sea bass. We also tried the garlic bread and calamari. I love this place and will be coming back

Went out for a friends birthday and had a blast! Jeremy was awesome! Attentive, accommodating, quick, just all around great service. The food was delicious and the drinks were on point. Even though the weather wasn't cooperating the views were amazing. Wish the bathrooms were larger but I get it we're on the water so space is limited. Overall I recommend it and I plan to come back and bring my mister.

This is a solid restaurant that's been around for a long time. The location is great on the water, grilled swordfish was very good and the service overall with the server, runners and busboy are on top of everything. The only issue I had was we were seated at the base of staircase and crammed into a space that probably shouldn't have had a table. Overall a solid 4 for food and service.

Today, My Girlfriend Linda, and her Daughter Kristy, and Kristy 9 month daughter visited the Rusty Pelican in Newport Beach, My name is Karen and I have been going to the Rusty Pelican for along time. Today we were celebrating a birthday. Our Waiter's name was Ryan N he was fantastic, he helped us in every way possible, checking up on how we were doing, and helping us with the celebration song Happy Birthday to Kristy, he was funny, kind and caring and professional and engaging in conversation. If you want a place to go, where the food is 20 star, the restaurant has an awesome view of the water. Everyone is nice, If you like seafood, the food is more than awesome. Again thank you Ryan N for giving us an awesome time today. Thank you Karen Herrold

Be the first to ReplyI really don't like to post 1-star reviews, but today was
I really don't like to post 1-star reviews, but today was altogether a disappointing experience for me. This is a restaurant that my parents have been frequenting since they were in their early 20s as a young, married couple and they're still happily married now, nearing their 60s. This is a restaurant that my parents have brought me and my husband before we were married, and a restaurant that my parents bring their friends to as well when they want to treat them to a nice dinner by the beach. Today was my mother-in-law's birthday, and my parents wanted to treat my in-laws to a birthday dinner. They made a reservation for 5:30pm, hoping to avoid the peak dinner crowd and also hoping for better seating. Well, we arrived and it didn't seem like they really had a table in mind for us, so my mom requested window seating and then asked for a booth (because that's where she sat last time and thought was comfortable). They immediately accommodated us (all good up to here) and we were seated. The hostess later came to us, apologizing and asking to move us as the table we were seated at had actually been reserved for a larger party. We understood and got up to move. Again, up to here was fine. Our new table was a bit uncomfortable because it was a round table that's supposed to seat 8, so it was a bit awkward for the 6 of us. The table was also very rocky and a couple of the seats were right next to a busy aisle. We requested another seat. We were taken upstairs where we found a table that very obviously only seats 4 people.... that they had attached 2 chairs on the ends of the table to. We commented that the table was way too small. The staff stood there a bit awkwardly at first and began talking amongst themselves to find a solution. Their solution was to grab a round table for 2 and attach it to our rectangular table. I was unsure why they didn't just grab the other rectangular table nearby and connect it to ours.. but my guess is that they wanted to keep that table empty to seat another party of 4 rather than waste 2 empty seats. I tried giving the benefit of the doubt that maybe that table had been reserved, but it remained empty until we finished eating dinner and left. The big kicker was some of the staff's attitude. They scoffed at us behind our backs, being visibly annoyed at us commenting on our tables. My husband caught one of the workers glaring at us while scoffing, and he stopped when my husband turned to look at him. I was initially understanding and even apologetic at all the table changes, but then felt disappointed and upset at their inability to respond to the situation in a professional manner. It's not like we showed up as walk-in guests... We made a reservation beforehand. All of this also happened while the restaurant was not very busy, so I was a bit baffled at their annoyance when part of the table changes was their fault from the get-go.Unfortunately, the food was not very delicious tonight either, possibly due to us being upset with all that had transpired. It was upsetting to see my parents being a bit embarrassed in front of my in-laws, and I privately told my dad that perhaps, it's time for us to look for another ocean-side restaurant instead of returning here. I mean, ocean-side restaurants aren't hard to find in California haha. Each time I've been here, I haven't been happy about how they cram so many tables close to each other and how they seat us, but it was never enough to deter me from returning. But this time around, I definitely don't think I'll be back. And my parents won't be either.
Be the first to ReplyFor those that don't want to read my whole review, here is
For those that don't want to read my whole review, here is the concise review (but it doesn't entail all I have ti say): Came here before and had a nice experience, wasn't perfect but it was nice. This time around I came here with family + in-laws for dinner and wow what a waste of time and money. No one left happy because of the treatment and lack of service. Plus the food sucked. Better service and food at your local McDonalds I promise. Now for those that want a full understanding of what happened during my experience here you go:I came with a party of six total people, had a reservation, and we were seated almost immediately. We requested a spot with a view because it seemed like it wasn't busy (it really wasn't when we came in) and they sat us at a cramped table meant for 4. After we were seated, the hostess comes to us and tells us that we need to move tables because she sat us at a table they were saving. That would have been perfectly fine if she didn't move us to a table in the middle of all the foot traffic where chairs would keep getting bumped into. So I asked if we could get seated anywhere else and so they move us once again to a table that was SMALLER than the previous one. So what do they do with this square mini table? they add a freaking mini circle table to the end of it and voila you're now just trying to make a stick figure out of tables and chairs. Tired of the nonsense at this point, my party just heads over to this table at the corner with no view and two screwed up tables and while walking I hear one of the employees SCOFFING and glaring at us. Rude. By this point you would think it couldn't be much worse right? Took us about 15 minutes to get our waters from someone who wasn't our server that probably noticed we still had no drinks long after being seated. Took forever for us to put our orders in because guess what? we were seated in the small corner far far away. So now with all this for a restaurant that charges ~$30 a plate, you would hope the food is redeeming. Nahhh absolutely terrible. The shrimp scampi is drenched in water with little taste, the salmon is seasoned so poorly it would have tasted better without any seasoning, the penne pasta was on the other hand so salty it could have used that water from the scampi. If you're a foodie, which you probably are since you're on yelp, DONT come here, such a terrible experience. And this is coming from someone whose reviews are 80% if the time four or five stars. I love supporting restaurants and putting up good reviews, but I am so severely disappointed in this restaurant. I know the ambience is pleasing but there are plenty of other establishments that will treat you with respect that are by the ocean. It sucks that this was a restaurant my family went to for years and they've just been getting worse and worse, cramping up all the space to fit more tables so that you're basically neck to neck with the person behind you. Ridiculous and tbh not safe at all. Service: TERRIBLE I don't even want to give it a number rating but if you want one its -10/5Food: plenty of other restaurants by the sea 0/5Parking: you have to pay for valet $8+tip If you made it to the end of the review congrats and thanks for reading my post lol.. if youre on the fence about whether or not you want to come here do yourself a HUGE favor and please just don't do it. That four star review you see from the past, completely disregard it cus I wouldn't want anyone to run the risk of experiencing what I had to go through.
Be the first to ReplyGreat seafood and Friendly Small Bar.
Restaurant is consistently great. The Princess and I have been here a half dozen times in the last year. Always fresh and well prepared seafood. The Bar Staff knows the menu and recommendations have always been spot on.There is something on the menu for everyone. No happy hour and no bar food are my only complaints.Cocktails are interesting. Wine list is small.Still a great place for dinner

He is friendly and helpful, and came to check on our table several times. . We were luckily sat at a place. We are regulars but he made it extra special today and we are extremely grateful for his kind personalitySuper yummy

Decent location but harbor view is stacked with boats. Not picturesque - sadly. Terrible service. Specials were not shared. Bread was not delivered. Salad came a minute before meal. Chicken piccata was The worst ever - absolutely not taste. Steak was fatty and the served never asked how it should be cooked. Dessert was the dim highlight. Good valet.
