OMG THOSE COCKTAILS! Whoever is in charge of the drink menu
OMG THOSE COCKTAILS! Whoever is in charge of the drink menu deserves a raise! Came here with a friend and we did not hold back. Since they had a seasonal drink menu, we thought we'd try those since they will probably be replaced. They do such an amazing job with balancing their drinks. None of them were too sweet or overly strong I ordered the Stella Maris (guava rum drink) and the Bloodsport (japanese whisky drink) - and I don't know which one I love more. They were both amazing! The food was amazing too! They are known for the beets and berries salad so we ordered that. I was skeptical because i'm not a huge fan of berries in salads but it was delicious! WE also ordered the artichoke app and that with the dipping sauce was yummy! For our entree, we shared the duck and the trout. The duck was a solid dish, but the trout was the real star! It looked like a salmon and the sauce tasted like crack! As soon as you take a bite, it melts in your mouth! For dessert we had the mtamai strawberries and rhubarb which was a great way to end the meal. It wasn't overly heavy or sweet. Overall this was such a great meal. Even though it was such a busy night, our service was perfect! It can get a little loud in there but that's because they are doing so well! I will 100% be back!

Dinner was outstanding, with the fritto misto, trout, sirloin cap with Sunchokes, abd cheesecake all standing out!
Be the first to ReplyThe food and service is amazing.
Our server Angel and the hostess Jenna were very cool and welcoming and along with the rest of the staff took really great care of us. The food was excellent and the wine pairing was to a T. Definitely recommend coming here for a date night. If you're 2 people 3 entrees and 2 desserts will have you full. My favorite dishes were the Short Ribs and the Chocolate cookie but its important to note the menu changes constantly.

This place is amazing! They change their menu frequently but have some items that stay on the menu. The food is so fresh and beautifully plated. I appreciated that our waitress could speak to the menu well and was able to help us find a few different items based on our tastes. The cocktails and wine are to die for! I'm glad we got a booth though because it got a little loud (it was a Saturday night). This is the kind of place where you order a bunch of stuff to share. We had to order all our food (minus dessert) all at once. We over ordered, they are more generous with their portions than other nicer restaurants. But that was fine because we could take some of it to go. The flavors were unique and rich. You can tell the chef puts a lot of thought into the menu. I love that it's all farm fresh and locally sourced and in season. It's a meal that you can feel good about. We had a gift card which was nice because it was pricey but well worth it! Hopefully we can afford to come back again soon!

One of my favorite restaurants, and great for special occasions. I've loved each restaurant in the rustic canyon family (I think only a couple that I haven't yet been to). The food is amazing, and the ambiance is perfect for conversation.

This might be a long overdue post, but I came here with my boyfriend in 2022 for his birthday. This was back when they still had their Michelin star I believe. Since it's been a while, I can't really comment on specific dishes-- as I'm sure they constantly change their menus. However, I wanted to write this review to talk about the spectacular experience we had. We have been telling all our family and friends about this place, and hope to return soon. The service and food were amazing. We loved everything, from the ambiance and location of the restaurant to the warm "home-like" atmosphere. My boyfriend really loved the old fashioned drink he got, and still talks about how it was a really well made drink!

Be the first to ReplyWent here to celebrate our anniversary.
It was asked during the reservation online so I checked the box. Once we entered everyone that touched the table congratulated us. We got a celebration coupe of cava and it's a great start. The dishes is is divided to snacks/cold app - salad / warm app then entree'ish meat seafood kinda thing. This place is a farm to table restaurant so order everything vegetables, you won't regret it. The apps is not big so go heavy on the apps. Maybe get 1 or 2 meat. We got chicken and the steak. We also got a cocktail and couple glass of wine. Overall it's great, we would comeback for sure. Eat more vegetables. The ambiance is great. Nice music. Everyone is chill, not stuffy. $$$ will add up really quick. So if you worry about that. I don't know. Eat somewhere else or get a better side hustle.

We've been here several times but this particular experience was amazing. Our server Denise was so witty, knowledgeable and friendly, which made us very comfortable and satisfied with the whole food experience. Thumbs up!!
Be the first to ReplyLoved the vibe here.
There were certain things on the menu that I liked. The food is definitely rustic (but flavorful), so if this is your cup of tea, you will love this place.

My boyfriend and I went to Rustic Canyon for dinner this evening and what an unbelievable experience we had. Angel and Jacob took such great care of us. I said to my boyfriend "you just don't get service like this anymore". Well you do at Rustic Canyon. The food was so delicious too. Everything about this place is so special. If you have the opportunity to go , ask for Angel and Jacob. You wont be disappointed.

There is only street parking available, which even on a Wednesday night was pretty much nonexistent. Be prepared to search and park a couple blocks away. We came about 10 minutes before our reservation, and our table was already set up and ready. The general manager greeted us at the door and was very pleasant. He had no problem seating us a little early. The inside was dimly lit with wooden decor and fairy lights near the windows. This made for a very homey atmosphere. It is very loud, so be prepared to project your voice. The actual service wasn't perfect. There seemed to be a little confusion as to who our waiter was- one waiter came over and took our drink and appetizer order, but then another waiter came a couple minutes after that and asked to take our drink order again. It wasn't exactly off putting, but set an awkward tone for service for the rest of the night. They staggered bringing out everyone's food orders. Would have preferred to receive everyone's food all at once. She did not go into any explanation of the menu, so if you have any questions or interest of what is being served, you will have to initiate that conversation.Once we received our food, everything was absolutely delicious. We started with the bread and butter and lavender almonds. Bread was soft, butter was salted, and the almonds were aromatic and delightful. We all shared the garden of lettuce, which was fresh with a light tangy dressing. I ordered the trout, which was cooked perfectly to be moist and fork tender. The smallhold mushrooms were crispy which added a pleasant texture to the dish. I could eat it everyday. My sister ordered the Japanese sweet potato, which was to die for. Everyone else ordered the lamb, which was a surprise when it came out; no one knew that the lamb merguez is a type of sausage. They were expecting a lamb chop. While still delicious, this is an example of where a little unprompted explanation to the main courses would have been appreciated. We ended with the chocolate halva, which was soft, not too sweet or rich, and paired well with the dessert wine we picked. Even if the service wasn't excellent and parking is difficult, the amazing meal made up for anything else that was less than perfect.
Be the first to ReplyWe made a reservation here for my husbands birthday.
We are locals and had never been here but the Michelin star rating had us curious. Well Michelin, you should come collect your star. This place is extremely overrated and overpriced. We arrived at the restaurant when they wanted to seat us at a table by the front door on a cold night I asked if we could be seated at one of the open booths away from the cold air that came in every time the door opened. The hostess rudely said that table was reserved. Ok, well we also have a table reserved in this restaurant at this time and that table is open. Hmmm!! As far as the food...extremely underwhelming. Pushed to order 6-7 dishes from the menu for just 3 of us. I won't go into all the details of what made this visit to Rustic Canyon a very expensive mistake. Too bad it was a birthday celebration, because it turned out to be a real bummer. 1 and done for this place. But that's ok because Santa Monica has so many other places that I will gladly empty my pockets for. Also very pretentious. Save your money and miss this one for sure.

While visiting LA our friend made a reservation here for dinner. They'd never been, but they knew that we are beer snobs and saw the menu had craft beers. :-). Quick summary- we loved it. Luckily the wait staff explained they do things family style, and that we should plan on sharing food items. So very grateful for that suggestion. I won't get into details about individual dishes since the menu changes daily. Truly everything was wonderful. A few things. Atmosphere was comfortable, quiet and relaxed - for my 60 year old eyes the lighting was too low to read the menu, a touch more light where we sat would have been good. Staff were wonderfully attentive and polite! Hope to come back to visit and dine there again!

Absolute Rubbish ! Is it a friends and family plan writing this place up the be five stars ? Walk in it's warm but pretentious . Waiter was annoying always interrupting when we were talking . Also said we should order six to seven dishes to share between four . Immediately put off . You can only think that the $40 dishes were small or his thinking about his tip and supplying many doggy bags (when we said one each he moved onto giving us a guilt trip for not ordering appetizers . I like good food and don't mind paying for it but the food here was avg at best am way over priced . One dish was enough for one person but avg quality at best . Lamb was 3 small falafels that didn't even taste like lamb . The chicken was slightly pink and was avg at best (CCC much better, maybe even KFC) two people had the weird and totally bland sour dough pasta with undercooked mushrooms . Then decided to try one of the odd deserts which was a big enough slice to feed a 2 year old . Oh almost forgot to mention a 4% added health charge !! Massive expensive disappointment for a boring non tasteful meal .

I love Rustic Canyon--the food, service, and ambiance are all great. I was super disappointed to learn that they lost their Michelin star, because Rustic Canyon is great! The service is impeccable and detail oriented - everything is perfect from the moment you arrive. The overall ambiance is great as well--whether you're at a table or a booth, you'll feel that you have enough space and aren't overcrowded with neighbors or high traffic areas. The sommelier is quite knowledgeable and helped us choose a great match for our dinner. And the food is outstanding. I absolutely recommend Rustic Canyon - it's one of the best dinner options in Santa Monica.

Very nice to return to rustic canyon during the Holidays! This time I tried their Kabocha squash covered with honey which was divine. We also tried a bok choy with fresh trout with beautiful pinkish color. Can't wait to go again!

Ok, what can I possibly add about Rustic Canyon, a restaurant of superlatives, that hasn't already been said: Michelin Star, Best Restaurants in America, LA Times - Best Restaurants and Restaurants We Love. Those reviews are from *professionals* and I'm just someone on Yelp - so I'll simply say: Go :)PS: the craft cocktails here are high art
Be the first to ReplyThis is a big disappointment.
We went there because it's a Michelin star restaurant. The price was at Michelin star level but the food and food were way below par.We ordered lamb, beef and fish plates. They were very salty and nothing special. The worst was the dish- trout - it was dry and fishy. The waiter service was terrible, the fish plate came about 20 minutes after other dinners were served. The waiter didn't care about his customer s and just threw plates on the table.Bottom line, will not go there again.
Be the first to ReplyI've been wanting to try this one-star Michelin restaurant
I've been wanting to try this one-star Michelin restaurant in Santa Monica so came here for dinner. We made a reservation in advance and we're seated pretty quick. They told us they don't have enough seat to expand the reservation when we make a reservation, but there's so many empty spaces in restaurants. We ordered bread and butter, Roasted chicken, Prime sirloin steak, Smoked trout rillettes and Pozole verde of Hope Ranch mussels. I like Pozole verde of Hope Ranch mussels the best. The sauce was excellent. We ordered their dessert menu as well. It's scope of ice cream and it's pretty good. Other dishes were just okay. Felt it was sub-par for a one Michelin star restaurant compared to others I've tried. I don't know if I would return.

Ours daughters foot the bill to send their parents on a milestone occasion to the Rustic Canyon...They wanted us to share a culinary "experience", not just a nice dinner. Needless to say, they hit the mark with their well-studied choice. We were warmly greeted by hostesses Charlie and Katherine and then continued in the professional hands of a chef, now turned front server, Jay. He helped us navigate the menu of incredible delights by explaining some highlights of each to entice our choices...Magic!It all started with the hearty chunk of bread from a local bakery with butter that was consumed eagerly with just water to savor its full flavor. The next choice was the endive, chewy strawberries, fresh cheese and pecans along with the weiser's tomatoes, pickled melon & corn pudding. Both were excellent with unique flavorful sauces...The endive salad was our "first base" choice. For entrees, the petaluma chicken, summer corn & radishes along with the baja halibut with artichokes and chamomile were ordered...The petaluma chicken won out for our choice to fill "second base".Note: Along the way the daughters, via text?, sent forth their choice of summer squash with basil and caramelized anchovy...Very nice touch!...delicious and healthy. Now for our unexpected "third base" choice (Bases now loaded!), we ordered dessert, a rare request for us after any dinner eaten at a restaurant. Once again, Jay put his two cents in and boy did it pay off!...The dandelion chocolate, eggplant & candied pine nuts was simply a spectacular burst of flavors that had our taste buds, with the pine nuts, zinging all the way back home. You typically would not think of eggplant in a dessert would exist but the "dessert" chef must have been in a very creative mood to construct this one!..Wow. The crispy wafer with chocolate, sweetened eggplant, candied pine nuts all combined with a surprising scoop of smoked eggplant ice cream rounded out culinary experience with a memorable boom! Not to detract from any of our ordered culinary delights that left the bases loaded, the "grand slam" home run that made our evening memorable goes out to the chefs' creations, our outstanding and attentive servers Jay, Gamma, and Manuel, hostesses (Charlie and Katherine) and any other team members behind the scenes that puts the Rustic Canyon high on the list for a return visit. In fact, we will treat our daughters and their men when the next special occasion that merits a "splurge" arises....Thank you to all.Leyla and Charles Acosta

So I don't ever write reviews but I had such a bizarre experience. Was so looking forward to having dinner here and strung along two friends who made quite the trek at my behest. Imagine my disappointment and embarrassment when we found SILICA GEL BEADS in the pork chop. You know the desiccant packets that literally say in all caps "DO NOT EAT"? Yeah, those. Nearly cracked a tooth biting down on it.Found one bead the restaurant and then more beads at home in the leftovers. We had to toss out the rest in fear of more beads being hidden in the sauce. You would think with their prices ($70 dollar pork chop+ 20% tip+ 4% kitchen fee+ tax) and acclaim that they'd have a little more quality control or precautions that prevent multiple silica gel beads from finding their way into the food, but I digress. They comped one of our two desserts (which by the way tasted like vinegar. The table next to us got the same dessert and theirs didn't have a strong vinegar taste so idk what happened there either) which at the time sorta sufficed as a gesture. It was one bead after all. To be really honest, we enjoyed most of the food and even the pork chop minus the beads. The ambiance at night was lovely. And while we didn't catch his name, our server was so attentive and kind. It just sucked that it fell flat in pretty significant ways despite all the good. Great food, but silica gel beads in the food and vinegary dessert. Great service, until he had to leave and were left abruptly with a server who just wanted us to sign the bill. It's like they were just shy of greatness, you know what I mean?

Amazing food that is NOT your next door preparation! Beautifully paired berried and beets, amazingly marinated olives (must be some secret marination, it's sooo good), best crudo scallops, unbelievably tender steak and dessert of cheesecake is also very interesting and to die for!

Each dish is an unexpected explosion of flavors, and yet it's good, clean, food. The staff were so accommodating and kind. They deserve their Michellin star.
