Rose Mary Chicago Reviews
Good food with attentive service.
The portions are surprisingly big and many items are heavy like the pastas and risotto, so you will get full easily if you don't pace yourself. The favorites of the night were the zucchini fritters, shopska salad, and the duck. The shopka salad packed a punch with the pickled tomatoes, and the fresh herbs mellowed it out, and I thought it was very delicious. Definitely the most unique dish in flavor profile we had tried. I found the pastas and risotto to be too thick and heavy and I could only eat a few bites. Especially the cacio e pepe, creamy and very cheesy, I had enough after two bites. Many dishes I would not order again if I returned. And the cost to try was steep. The service was a highlight. Multiple staff members are tending to us, switching our plates, asking if we want more drinks. Large wine selection. I enjoyed the Croatian white and the pinot noir.

3.5 but I rounded up to 4. Although the food was definitely good, I'd say nothing was memorable or worth the cost of the dish. - squash: surprisingly one of our favorites. I loved the pickled squash mixed with the chargrilled squash and the basil added some freshness to the dish - Octopus: was good and not too heavy but my octopus was a bit burnt - Cavalletti: the pasta was good but not much filling inside. Felt like I had ordered some empty shells of pastas - Pistachio gelato: wayyyyy too sweet for my liking Great service and appreciated that they were able to seat us within 5-10 mins despite not having a reservation and walking in during peak dinner time.
The rating would have been 5 star except for the hostess.
We arrived on Sept. 14 and the hostess said our reservation was for 2 not 3 and we would need to sit outside. We produced a confirmation for 3 people but the hostess would not relent. Finally the manager came and asked for our last name. It appears that two reservations were made for the same first name for 2 and 3 people. Once we confirmed our last name the manager escorted us to a table inside. The hostess did not acknowledge her mistake and did not apologize. My comment to the manager was "Thank you for making it right" He then came to the table with complimentary glasses of wine. We ordered our entrees and during the meal two additional entrees arrived that were on the house. Wow, talk about making it right! The food was fantastic! A great combination of Italian flare and Slavic abundance. We had seven dishes and truly it was hard to pick the best dish. The waitress and other staff were wonderful. The only negative was the hostess.
Needed an early Sunday dinner before flying home and lucked
Needed an early Sunday dinner before flying home and lucked into this great spot. The dining area is really cool but the weather was great so we enjoyed the shaded outdoor seating. Our waitress was kind and helpful. She helped us select some Croatian wine and a tasty mezcal cocktail, We had the tuna (twice, it was that good.) Who knew that beef fat and fried capers were so good with tuna!? We also enjoyed the zucchini fritters. We also had the Capelleti pasta and the duck breast. The duck breast was really nice, served with plums and shaved fennel in a delicious sauce. It was so good I forgot to take a picture. The pasta was tender and delicious. I would have loved to linger, but we had to get moving. This is a good spot, stop by and check it out!
Had dinner at Rose Mary and ordered the gnocchi with beef
Had dinner at Rose Mary and ordered the gnocchi with beef cheek, the crni risotto, the baby octopus peka style, and the cevapi. Being of Croatian descent, these dishes really hit home. The flavors felt both familiar and elevated, almost like a modern take on the meals I grew up around. The gnocchi was rich and comforting, with beef cheek that just melted. The best plate of the night. The crni risotto had that deep, briny flavor I've always loved, and it was easily one of the standouts. The baby octopus was cooked perfectly, tender with a bit of char, and the cevapi had that unmistakable grilled taste that felt authentic. Service was attentive without being rushed, and the atmosphere had an energy that made the whole experience even better. Staff always came and filled up the waters, and picked up the dishes very quickly once finished. It was one of those meals that felt personal while still being creative, and I'd come back without hesitation. Highly recommend.
Came here for Valentine's Day and their preset menu and had
Came here for Valentine's Day and their preset menu and had a great time! We made reservations and few weeks in advance as this sold out pretty quickly and we didn't regret doing so. We were seated immediately and were taken care of quickly. The space felt modern and chic - super lively as well. The menu was curated well and had a great mix of dishes to share - everything was delicious and there wasn't a plate we disliked. Drinks were also solid, albeit a bit strong. Highlights were the bread, oysters, and crudo. Everything was great though. Overall, we had an amazing experience and I'm glad we could visit during our trip to Chicago. Thanks, Rose Mary!
I think I have to give this place another try? I have
I think I have to give this place another try? I have wanted to go here for literally years. I came here for a birthday dinner with my friends. We tried the straceteciella and some pastas. Everything tasted super fresh and very flavorful. Definitely rich pastas, but I've recently been going to so many great Chicago restaurants to do similar things with pasta (monteverde and daises) and I just found that some of the flavor profiles weren't my favorite. I also think I need to go back again with other people and do more family style sharing. The service was good all around and they did give a free birthday dessert of gelato. They also work extremely accommodating my allergy and even printed it on the menu with substitutions. I would come back here to try other dishes and just give it another shot.
First time, checking this restaurant out.
The space is really nice and open with lots of hanging plants. The windows open onto the street. There is also some outdoor tables. The location is good, close to the Morgan stop (Green Line). If you're coming from the suburbs, the restaurant is walkable from the Ogilvey station on a nice day. As far as the food, the menu is pretty tight which makes it easier for you to make a choice. There are many things to choose from. The portions are on the smaller side similar to tapas. You may want to order a few dishes to try and to share.
Bravo to Rose Mary! Honestly, I love the food scene in
Bravo to Rose Mary! Honestly, I love the food scene in Chicago. And this place delivers an exceptional dinner that had both Italian and Balkan touches. Not going to lie, it was hard to just choose one dish I enjoyed. If I had to pick, it would be the cacio e pepe (yes I know -- but it was seriously that good). The pasta obviously tasted homemade and the sauces were A++. If I had to make one comment, I would say that being served cevapi last made our stomachs full to the point where we took 80% of the meat home. Definitely recommend the food for those who are both picky and adventurous. The service at Rose Mary elevated the dining experience even more, with our waiter providing the best recommendations. He turned my sister and I into cacio e pepe fans and even gave us a complementary appetizer for my sister's big celebration. Lastly, I love the interior/exterior of Rose Mary. Indoors was full of plants and a modern/chic vibe that just felt cozy. The chatter around wasn't loud enough where I could still hear my sister, and feeling the outdoor breeze helped moderate the temperature. Overall, Rose Mary offers a memorable setting as impressive as its menu, and I cannot wait to dine there again!
Went to Rose Mary for my birthday dinner and we sat at the
Went to Rose Mary for my birthday dinner and we sat at the chefs counter. I am taking off a star for this as I would have preferred if they gave us an option to sit there or at a regular table. The chefs counter was a little distracting. We got the zucchini fritters, pork ribs pampanella, gnocchi, and a sausage plate. We loved the zucchini fritters. The ribs were a good flavor but a little tough to eat as the meat didn't come off the bone easily.
Dinner with a friend
The ambiance, staff and food were all great! The staff was incredibly attentive (almost too attentive). You canβt go wrong with anything on the menu!!
Great service & atmosphere, but overdoing the salt and sauces. Rich & heavy.
While Rose Mary is a gorgeous and hip setting, with a delicious sounding menu where you want to try every item, unfortunately, we were disappointed by the food. The zucchini fritters were extremely salty, to the point that I couldn't taste the zucchini or the dipping sauce. The ahi crudo was nice, but they overdid it with the aoli sauce, and I would've loved a light wonton crisp to go with. The sweet potatoes were so dressed up that I couldn't taste any sweet potato. The beef cheek gnocchi was really tasty but again, rich and much heavier than it needed to be. The cacio de peppe tasted like a white mac'n'cheese and was drowning in thick, cheesy sauce. The pork ribs were really yummy and did not need the giant topping that we scooped off. The service was excellent, and they offered a complimentary dessert plus took the fritters off the bill to apologize for the food. It's a bustling, trendy place, but I didn't find it too loud by any means.
Croatian Treat
This place was recommended by a co-worker from Chicago. What an experience. Food, service and atmosphere were fantastic. It was crowded but it wasn't too loud where I couldn't have a conversation. we picked 4 dishes, and they were served in a random order. Tuna Credo to start, then the Zucchini Fritters (interesting), Burek (outstanding) and then the Cacio e Pepe. The CeP was the best I have had in the USA. What a way to finish the dinner portion. The tables on each side of us also ordered it and thoroughly enjoyed it as well. Dessert was the Chocolate Bundino and Pistachio Ice Cream (IC was homemade and complimentary because of St. Patrick's Day). I am definitely going back next time in Chicago.
Good vibes overall
The location, menu, atmosphere, and service in this place are tough to beat! All the food we had was fantastic. Itβs located in a fun part of Chicago and the restaurant itself is very chic. Would highly recommend!
Perfection with a Croation accent
Three diners ordered beets, clams, ribs, octopus, and pasta, and shared. Afterward we could not choose a dish that didn't exceed our expectations. Service was attentive without being intrusive. And the Croatian red wine was delicious. Eat here. You will not be disappointed.
Very nice on all fronts.
Crowded on a cold late Saturday afternoon. Service great. Ordered a series of smallish plates and happy with all but one. We will go back next time in the city. Perfect stop after all day at the Art Institute.
Spectacular Dinner!
This Restaurant was everything I hoped for. The food and service was delicious and the customer was there. The Croatian cusines was beyond exceptional. The inside dinner was very cozy and spectacular. The food was on point and on time. Everything overall a great night
A must do!!
Incredible experience from start to finish. The food is shared plates and generous portions that were great and fun to share, and absolutely delicious. Huge flavors, unique seasonal options and we enjoyed every bite. Donβt miss the tuna crudo and pork ribs, they were especially amazing. Service is top notch - big thanks to Madison and Rocky!
We went to Rose Mary last night for our Anniversary.
We sat outside and had a fantastic meal with wonderful service. They graciously seated us outside at a corner table which created a nice quiet atmosphere. Our waiter gave us complimentary Prosecco to start and walked us through the menu. He shared his favorite dishes and picked a fantastic Croatian wine. I would recommend the restaurant to anyone and can't wait to go back.
My wife and I chose Rosemary to celebrate our 31st wedding
My wife and I chose Rosemary to celebrate our 31st wedding anniversary. It was a great choice first, we sat outside on a beautiful summer day. Seating was spacious. The service was beyond good. Very polite people and you could tell they enjoyed their job and that they were proud of the service they were giving. The food they were presenting my Wife and I had four course, a gnocchi with beef cheek, a risotto with asparagus, zucchini frittata and a green bean salad to start. Let me first say all the courses were cooked perfectly , presented beautifully and the flavor was amazing! The gnocchi in particular was outstanding. If you go there, it's an absolute must our overall experience was amazing and it's 100% five stars!
Casual and cute ambiance, good for after work social events
Casual and cute ambiance, good for after work social events for small groups, romantic dinner or just a quick drink in the bar area. Tables are small and can't fit a lot, but the staff will bring items one at a time so it works out. The lamb ragu pasta is perfectly made. Baked clams are a bit salty and overcooked. Our waiter is very pleasant and tentative. Overall a 4/5 and would recommend.
Our first time at Rose Mary did not disappoint - every item
Our first time at Rose Mary did not disappoint - every item was spectacular. We started with the gem salad with green goddess dressing and the zucchini fritters and both items were delicious. Our entrees were the lamb saddle and the bucatini with peas and guanciale, and were both exceptional as well. Highly recommend.
FLAMM-TASTIC! Rose and Mary are the Serbian and Italian
FLAMM-TASTIC! Rose and Mary are the Serbian and Italian nonnas as well as the namesakes of Joe Flamm's lovely restaurant in Fulton Market. When we first arrived and saw the patio-where we had booked a table, I was a bit disappointed, having expected something less casual, but soon after being seated, the perfect weather and excellent waiter changed my mind. We began with Zucchini fritters, which were so creamy on the inside and so crispy on the outside. We then moved on to the Little Gem salad, which was. After that, the Tuna Crudo, which was so fresh and delicious although small. For our final course, we chose the Squid Ink Risotto-silky black wonderfulness! We finished the evening with a refreshing Amaro Nonnio. I have used the English names for the Serbian dishes, but don't be put off by them. The wait staff will understand your pronunciation, and you will enjoy your choices whether Serbian or Italian. Oh, and be sure to order a loaf of their bread.
Was so excited to try Rose Mary since I'm a huge fan of Top
Was so excited to try Rose Mary since I'm a huge fan of Top Chef and Chef Joe Flamm. However, was sadly disappointed with almost all the dishes - flavours simply did not hit the mark. The squid ink risotto was way over-salted (to the point of being bitter) and we both took one bite and had to have them take it back. The service staff were incredible but I really can't give the restaurant a 5 star rating. Ambience/decor was nice - really like the open kitchen concept, it was great sitting at the bar!
The food here was so flippin delicious.
Octopus was tender, risotto was unbelievable, and duck sausage was so great. We stumbled into the place and we are so happy we did. Ryan S was so fricken friendly, had amazing recommendations. We will absolutely be visiting again.
Enjoyed our dinner on a Friday night
We reserved a table for 2 for dinner and sat indoors on a hot muggy day. Couldn't imagine sitting outdoors, even in the late evening. We shared two plates - snap peas and stracciatella. Both were delicious although we could have used some bread with the cheese. For our mains we each had a pasta dish, but we were quite full so we took the food home. I had the non-alcoholic Placebo drink which was fruity and flavorful. We skipped dessert as we were both full. It's worth going once to this place for the experience and good fresh clean food.
very loud restaurant
Went there for dinner; the noise makes it impossible to enjoy the food and the company you're with. The food would be good if less salted ( a complain I had in almost every restaurant during my trip in the USA); I thought it was pricey for what it was
We've gone to Rose Mary twice now and boy - it's a what I
We've gone to Rose Mary twice now and boy - it's a what I would call a Chicago heavy hitter! First - the people are SO kind! We've eaten at the bar both times and Aiden, Kyle, and Hannah are 10/10. Their cocktails are well balanced and they are willing to do things off menu like champs. They are so focused on the experience of the diner that it feels 5 stars. The food is just so good it kind of makes you angry (like how dare this gnocchi exist and I can't eat it every moment). Legit - get the gnocchi and cacio e Pepe (you can do just one but also - boo if you don't get both). It's also just a beautiful spot - and very relaxed. Based on reputation you'd think "we fancy" but the vibes say "chill and eat this delicious thing". It's very much living the grandma vibe in the best way possible.
Mediocre food .
..nothing to wanna talk about. Zucchini fritters bitter over fried , octopus unimpressive and so was the pasta. Short ribs too sweet . Too expensive for what the offered. Service impeccable .
We really wanted to love this place.
My wife was excited to try it, given the many good reviews. I hate to say it, but I was really disappointed. Every dish is literally covered in sauce. The beautiful grilled clams, covered in green sauce. The fresh snap peas, drowning in green sauce. We were told the asparagus risotto is "light." It is not. When we told the server it's really not light, he simply said it's lighter than the pasta. Very disappointing. Maybe I'm in the minority here, but I don't enjoy big heavy dishes that leave you feeling bloated after. Something to consider. I'm also always disappointed to hear a nice restaurant's "signature cocktails" are batched. Meaning premade. There is no way to control the individual quality of such a cocktail. All in all, quite a disappointment.
Trendy, loud place with average food
As you arrive to Rose Mary, you are delighted by the modern, spacious dining area with a large bar and an open view of the kitchen. It is a bustling place, and the evening we visited, it was packed. The hanging floral baskets add an atmosphere of coziness. Soon you realize the place is very noisy and it is hard to conduct a conversation without yelling. In addition to the loud clientele, the background music is a loud boom-boom, which makes the noise level unnecessarily worse. Service was slow, and for a full restaurant, it is understaffed. Eventually we got our cocktail and appetizer orders in and waited. The restaurant is named after the owner's grandmother, and the menu honors their Northeast Italian and Croatian ancestry. The menu fails to describe the dishes you get, so to some extent, ordering was a shot in the dark. It was also hard to determine which dish was an appetizer and which was a main dish, and as we ordered, it became clear that sizes varied quite a bit, so don't trust the order in which they appear on the menu. The Zucchini fritters sounded wonderful, but what we got was a half-burned, overfried disc of some vegetable, although it was unrecognizable. It was very salty and greasy. The Baby Octopus looked good and at first bite was quite pleasant; then the bitter aftertaste came out, making it a less than accomplished dish. We couldn't eat it. The Lamb Saddle was well-cooked, tender and attractive, but came smothered in an unrecognizable sauce which hid the lamb and made the dish very heavy. The duck was better and the highlight of the dinner was the vanilla ice cream. I also ordered an Amaro, which came diluted by a ton of crushed ice. I guess it is served like that for people who don't like Amaros. The restaurant is located around Fulton Market, and when we left, there was not a cab to be seen and the woman at the reception desk declined to call one. We ended up walking about 15 blocks in the hot, humid Chicago night, through dark streets in a city sadly famous for street violence. This was an interesting experience, but one we will not repeat: the place is too noisy, service is too slow and the food is mediocre, at best.
Once or twice a year
I visited Rose Mary for the yearly Easter Brunch. What a delicious and fabulous meal experience! I hope to be back for dinner or for another brunch.
Had a wonderful experience visiting the Italian/Croatian
Had a wonderful experience visiting the Italian/Croatian fusion restaurant Rose Mary, located in the heart of Fulton Market! From the decadent black truffle/parsnip agnolotti, to the fresh flavors of the tuna crudo and scampi na buzzara, to the crispy textures of the zucchini fritters (the accompanying pesto aioli was so delicious!), everything we ordered was fantastic! Would recommend to plan ahead and get a reservation, since it was packed, even at 5:30 on a weekday evening. The service was prompt and thoughtful, and the modern/cool atmosphere of the restaurant made for an even better experience. I am definitely looking forward to my next visit!
Let me start by saying it was St Pattys Day weekend and
Let me start by saying it was St Pattys Day weekend and with traffic we were super late to our reservation. So we sat the bar. And the food was amazing! We had sweet potatoes to start, the CRNI risotto, cacio e Pepe, the calamari, and the duck ragu with cabbage. I loved the sweet potatoes, the calamari and the duck ragu. Service at the bar with Aiden was great. We came because we had watched iron chef (I'm Italian and get my own personal love of cooking from my Gram too) and were huge Joe fans. Cheers to an incredibly lovely and super unpretentious (even though it's the shit) space.
Rose Mary was easily the best restaurant I have experienced
Rose Mary was easily the best restaurant I have experienced in 2024! I can't stop recommending this restaurant enough. The stracciatella appetizer was phenomenal, and the lamb saddle and duck were out of this world. The waiter was so passionate about the food and was constantly educating us on the intricacies of the coursed meal. The ambiance was beautiful although the nearby conversations carried a little too loud for my preference, but I guess that's expected in a closely packed restaurant. We will definitely be returning for anniversaries and birthdays in the future.
Wow!! What a WONDERFUL and excellent dinner!!! I went with
Wow!! What a WONDERFUL and excellent dinner!!! I went with my husband and we took our server's suggestion and got at least two dishes each (she said 2-3 but we ended up with 2 pastas, which are heavier). I really enjoyed everything. The crudo was very refreshing, and the grilled clams were also very nice. The PASTAS though!!! Our favorite was the "Mezzaluna" or duck ragΓΊ. Omg. This was one of the tastiest things I have EVER eaten. Just so well balanced and the tomato was just so flavorful. I will be dreaming about this dish. The bucatini was also incredible! Very flavorful. Certainly more varied and unique flavors (almost like a cinnamon spice?) in comparable to the Mezzaluna. The cocktails too!!!! I loved the Green Night and the Ghost Orchid! My husband had more than one Rum Coconut Milk Punch. The presentation was very cool and it was super tasty as well! Absolutely fabulous experience!!! I could not be happier!!! Thanks SO MUCH to the chef/owner (Joe Flamm from Top Chef- how cool is that?!) and team! You can really tell everyone is trying their best there and it was so special to be a part of. I am not from the area but I hope I will have the opportunity to come back!
This is our third time going and the food doesn't
This is our third time going and the food doesn't disappoint. The restaurant is really cute and the service is exceptional. They took the green beans off the menu which was one of our favs but we always get the cevapi it's wonderful. The Cacio e Pepe was also great. The ribs were a little dry
First rate food and service, also a beautiful space.
We had the stracciatta, the clams, the fritters, the gnocchi & the tortellini. Def go.
I loved Rose Mary the last time I came and decided to come
I loved Rose Mary the last time I came and decided to come again after seeing they added more vegetarian options. My husband and I ordered Tortellini Djuvec, Cacio e Pepe, Agnolotti, and Gemelli. All four entrees were amazing but the Tortellini Djuvec was my favorite, filled with flavorful eggplant and red pepper. The Cacio e Pepe was slightly on the salty side but overall was creamy and the sauce held well to the shape of the pasta. The service is great despite the restaurant being packed and I enjoyed my visit just as much as the first time I came. Don't skip out on the desserts - they are heavenly!
The cutest restaurant in the west loop with a wide variety
The cutest restaurant in the west loop with a wide variety of options to choose from. The best way to order food is to get multiple dishes for the table to share. This will allow you to taste a little bit of everything. The risottos and pastas are generously sized and could feed one person if you preferred to go that route. The meats and seafoods on the other hand, are small portions. Between four people we ordered six dishes, and that was plenty of food. The server had recommended eight dishes but that would've been too much for our stomachs. I'm glad that we chose to go with less options, the only thing that I didn't like was once you place an order for your food, you cannot add any other dishes. I feel like they do this to try to force you to order more food all at once. If you don't want to share between the table. I would recommend ordering one pasta and one protein. My favorite dish was the squid, ink pasta, and cheese appetizer. All of the flavors were fantastic and I would love to go back.
Two of my girlfriends and I had a weeknight dinner here and
Two of my girlfriends and I had a weeknight dinner here and for the most part really enjoyed all of the food! We all agreed on one complaint, which is the only reason I gave 4 stars instead of 5 - and that was that two of the dishes we had, while tasty, were waaaay too salty (and that's saying something coming from me - I love salt!). The dishes were the gemelli pasta and funghi risotto - again, both tasty but the salt needed to be toned way down. As for the rest of the food, we really enjoyed the rest - the endive salad, cauliflower dish, the truffle agnolotti and the lamb were *chefs kiss* and the desserts were also lovely (the pistachio gelato was a real winner). Service was great and the restaurant is a beautiful space - very West Loop. Joe Flamm is incredibly nice and you can see the passion for what he does come through in his presence in the restaurant. Definitely give this place a try!
Really beautiful restaurant and good food.
Not the best value. Really expensive for the portion sizes you get. Really helpful service.
My new favorite in Chicago
Dined here at the suggestion of my partners two adult kids who just returned from a trip to Croatia. I wasn't expecting such a fabulous and unique dinner when I looked at the menu. I was unfamiliar with Croatian food - the menu looked similar to Italian cuisine. This place far exceeded my expectations. The favorites around the table (we shared all the dishes) were the cauliflower, the gnocchi, and the endive salad. We also had the cevapi and the octopus. Both were very tasty but a bit overcooked which detracted from the experience. Still, with the quality of service, and the funky room (to me it was 80's fern bar meets cookbook library) I felt like this place deserved a high rating and a return visit. Yes it's expensive for what feels like a casual restaurant - but I think well worth it.
Fantastic evening
We were celebrating our 40th anniversary and there was no better choice as an Italian and Croatian to enjoy a meal mixed with our heritage. We enjoyed our experience , our waiter was attentive, the courses were paced well and the drinks were perfection.
Overall very good but a little off.
We had been wanting to try Rose Mary for a long time but itβs a tough reservation to get. I was intrigued by the menu and the somewhat unique cuisine because it reminded me of a great Istrian restaurant in San Franciso called Albonia that closed a few years ago. We found an early reservation on a Sunday and so went with the kids for my wifeβs birthday dinner. We started with the heirloom tomato salad and the garlic was so strong (and I am Italian) that is was burning my mouth. A bit disappointing. We also ordered the green beans and the cucumbers. The green beans were good but the cucumbers were outstanding - one of our best dishes. The kids got the bucatini pomodoro and the cacio pepe (without the pepe). My son loved the bucatini, the sauce was very mild, almost like a vodka sauce. The cacio pepe was way too heavy, more like an alfredo sauce than a cacio pepe. we split the beef cheek gnocchi and they were also outstanding. The octopus was a bit forgettable. A bit mushy and the potatoes were a bit undercooked for my taste. Our last dish (we over ordered) was the swordfish. It was a nice piece of fish and perfectly cooked. Unfortunately, someone slipped with the salt and it was super salty. However, on any given day, I feel like this could be a great dish. Another reviewer also commented about the 4% surcharge. It was on the bill with no explanation. I asked what it was for and there was a bit of confusion but some comments about inflation, etc. The issue with the surcharge is that on top of the insane 10 1/4 city sales tax, the 4% surcharge and tip, our $250 food bill ended up costing $340. We liked the restaurant and will probably be back, maybe just ordering a little differently.
Need to drop the service charge
Food was good but didnβt like the 4% service charge slipped into the bill. They should raise their prices and not resort to this tactic, hoping to make 4% more and have people not notice
Spectacular food and service, but beware of the decibels
Since enjoying a dinner served family style to a big group in a (semi) private room at Rose Mary's I have been telling anyone who'll listen that the food there is the best I have had in the US since Chez Panisse in Berkeley. It was spectacular. The flavors were interesting and fresh. Not necessarily "fancy." For example, one of the best dishes we had was a simple pea risotto. It actually tasted like just-shelled sweet peas. The other vegetables, the lamb, the fish, the gelatos for dessert, all were stellar. The Croatian wine, delicious. The service, attentive, thoughtful and friendly. My only criticism -- and it is a serious one -- is that the restaurant is way too loud. We had to shout to make conversation. There must be a way to organize a space so it feels lively, without endangering everyone's hearing. Noise should not detract from the pleasure of such excellent food and service.
Absolutely superb
Our dining experience at this place was absolutely superb! Last week, we had dinner here and were blown away by the phenomenal food and wine. I highly recommend this place to anyone seeking a remarkable culinary experience. Additionally, our server was wonderful, adding to the overall enjoyment of the evening.
Being asked to wrap things up due to next resy being ready to be seated
A restaurant with a lot of hype. Nice menu and service initially seemed to be good. However as it came time to order dessert (1 hour 45 min after we were seated) we were informed that they needed to turn over our table to the next resy. This clearly changed the level of enjoyment for our entire table. The server then came back and informed us we did not need to rush/leave. About 15 min later, the hostess told us to wrap things up because they were waiting on our table. There are many restaurants that serve spectacular food. Service is what differentiates restaurants hoping to be of the highest caliber. Managing restaurant seatings should be foundational and not interfere with the level of service provided. Rose Mary fell very short of this mark.
Extrarosemary!
It was a delight! From all the restaurants we visited in Chicago this was by far the best! We have ordered the tuna crudo, the zucchini fritters, the radiatore βcacio e pepeβ and ice cream as dessert. Every single dish was incredibly delicious! We enjoyed every minute of our visit. Seeing the chefs preparing the meals in front of you makes you mouthwater instantly! Staff was extremely friendly and did everything to make us feel at ease. This is a culinary must-stop when you visit Chicago.
