Anniversary Dinner
My husband and I recently visited Richard Camarena on a trip to Valencia. Not only was this such a unique experience, the service and food was exceptional. My husband is Vegan and they were extremely accommodating as well. The chef takes such pride in the ingredients he uses (which he grows locally, himself) and it makes each of the courses that much more personal and delicious. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplySome very good things, some not so good.
The restaurant is very attractive and the staff seem very attentive. We had one Oxalis Path and one Synthesis (I asked for pescatarian) - both tasting menues. Some of the food was really good - for example the carob cured tuna, the confit tomato and the roasted veg soup Some of the food was home - standard, for example the corn tissoto and the mini artichoke. Some of the food contained red meet: The potato in the first course contained bone marrow and there was chorizo in the shrimps (we checked with the staff - who didn't seem concerned that they had served red meat to a pescy). I ate the food (and it was tasty) because I think it's even worse killing an animal and then not eating it. I am glad though that I don't suffer from any food allergies. Overall, most of it was good and there was some unexpected pleasant surprises. Perhaps because we went there on the night of the Valencia fire, the staff were a bit spooked, but at these prices, the order should match the customer's wishes.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
The restaurant is not very central, ideally you can get there by taxi. The rooms are nice, very modern. There are two menus, a vegetarian one ("Oxalis") and a regular one ("Ricard Camarena Route"). The only plus point: it was possible to order both menus, as many restaurants have one menu per table. As we went along, however, it became clear that the menus were not that different, most of the courses were identical, except that a slice of fish was left out of the vegetarian menu, for example, or a different broth was served. Here is a brief commentary on the "regular" menu, not in full: tuna preserved with carob (interesting, but you'll never need to eat more of it again) with matured anchovy (really very good), artichokes with caviar (boring), pickled tomato (best course), home-made bread (second best course), shrimps with consomme made from the shrimp heads (to be honest: yuck), rice/dill (ok). The desserts were OK, but the course with "Soccarat" deserves a mention. They are very proud of this creation and offer two pieces for everyone. Unfortunately, it tastes burnt, but you don't need it. It was left on all the tables we saw. For the "petit fours" you are then forced to get up and go to a dreary bar area where there is no one else. When you enter there are about 4-5 couples sitting there, and you can see how disappointed they are with the evening and hope that you can finally leave. Clear personal top pick: worst 2-star restaurant we have ever been to.
Be the first to ReplyCelebration of vegetables
What a joy to visit a restaurant celebrating vegetables in season and locally sourced. The experience here is very special- located in an art gallery the design of the space is clever which unusual angles and lines and the hearth of the open kitchen at the centre. The service was extremely attentive and they accommodated our dietary requirements very well- checking prior to our arrival which I appreciated. We had a very memorable evening here.
Be the first to ReplyI had it pending and it has not disappointed me.
I had wanted to go to Camarena for a long time (gens bombs). In my case, the thing about the stars makes me wonder. I don't care much. But there, you breathe something different from the moment you enter. The kindness and professionalism of the person who accompanies you in the experience. As for the menu we have tasted. Logically it is expensive, very expensive, but you have to pay for quality and enjoy it. For me it has been a first-class gastronomic experience. Perhaps, being in Valencia we do not value it enough. Or is it that we need to go to Madrid, Barcelona or Cáceres. But the truth is that both the place and the food have been a magnificent experience and highly recommended. Even so, I want to highlight the Ricard moment, of which there have been several. Since He is an affable, plain, folksy person I would say. Although it is not a restaurant to go to every day, I definitely recommend it. A must visit. I will return without a doubt.
Be the first to ReplyGreat evening at Ricard Camarena
First time at Ricard Camarena was a beautiful experience. Ricard introduced tuna for us and the tasting was exceptional. The rest of the evening was just as great. A little problem was that the evening was rushed. We would have liked the pace slowed down.
Be the first to ReplyTreatment, gastronomic quality and atmosphere with great elegance.
Restaurant with excellent decoration and distribution. Super ecological gastronomy with very elaborate dishes with delicious results.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding Michelin, not to be missed
Amazing experience. We dined here in October 2023. Love the sustainability of this restaurant. It came through on many of the dishes. Great experience to meet the owner and chef. The desserts were incredible and most from locally sustainable products and not too sugary. We were fortunate enough to dine at 10 Michelin * restaurants over a 2 week period and Richard Camarena was No 1 on the list. We highly recommend this dining experience it was well worth it. We enjoyed the extended menu.
Be the first to ReplyCup good, but some miscuts. Would love to come again
Good restaurant and excellent food. Dishes with an exception based on seafood or vegetarian. Mostly excellent but one or two dishes that didn't have much taste. A little disappointed that they didn't use the dried and fermented tuna we saw and tasted as a starter. So no connection between the demonstration and philosophy except the fermentation. A bit lazy about removing used glasses and refilling with water. Extra points for schooling self-generated spots with white stickers. Mostly very good. Would love to come again, but had better experiences at other Michelin restaurants in the city

The room is very pleasant, in the surroundings of an old factory. I missed getting more explanations about the history of the building, because it seems very interesting. The tour was very pleasant, I would perhaps make the initial aperitif longer. It is obvious that they use their own products very carefully and are obsessed with quality. A Michelin star that deserves it, recommended.
Be the first to ReplyBeautiful setting, but ...
It will be probably very personal, but I did not like the dishes, nor the wines ... I missed power in the tastes and crunchiness in the textures and I don t like it when the cheapest food, as an onion, is presented as a delicacy. The pairing wines were far-fetched and for sure not worth their excessive price ( € 135 per person). My husband liked it all better than me, but had expected more too for what is announced to be a restaurant that will get its 3th Michelin star in the near future. Beautiful setting though. And what to say about the staff member that let us out and at first did not believe us that we had already paid the bill and accompanied us to the financial responsible to double check ?! How does that make a client feel ?
Be the first to ReplyLovely food
have eaten here many times. The food is consistently excellent, always beautifully presented and delicious. The staff bend over backwards to accommodate any food allergies and can't do enough for you. Highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service; underwhelming food
The staff repeated several times during our meal how the restaurant emphasizes using every part of their produce and protein, zero waste. I wonder if that sometimes overshadows making consistently excellent food. Only five of the dishes out of about twenty served were really excellent and there were some bad misfires. Some of the misfires included - Aged anchovy served on a cracker-like base. The anchovy was good, but the "cracker" was mealy, if I didn't know everything was made fresh I would have said it was stale. - Tuna cured with carob. Yes, it's different, but didn't actually work, I felt bad that the tuna was wasted on this instead of a more traditional approach. - Cucumber flower. Tasted like something from the grocery store, the sprinkling of herbs wasn't enough to make it interesting. - Fig and sardine. Both of them had a mushy texture, not a good pairing. Flavor did not pop. Left me wondering if the kitchen is trying too hard to avoid salt. - Roast zuchinni with a peanut sauce. Could be interesting for someone who has never had Thai food but this really felt low effort. - White asparagus ice cream. My least favorite of the night. Hard to articulate why, maybe because this was the fourth dish containing a big helping of asparagus. Overall for the evening there was a lot of zuchinni, a lot of cucumber, and most of all a lot of asparagus. Again, I get that you don't want to waste anything but this isn't Iron Chef, making good food should take priority and it didn't. On the positive side, the highlights for the evening were the semi-preserved tomatoes in sheeps butter that evoked the best tomato soup you've ever had, concentrated in a few bites, and the oysters in an avacado and "cream" sauce was an instance where doing something very different from how you usually prepare oysters paid off.
Be the first to ReplySuperb…but
My wife loved this restaurant . I enjoyed it. Make no mistake the menu is largely vegetarian , some fish and less meat . My beef if you will pardon the pun was the bread .Not the in house excellently produced sourdough blended bread but my gluten free bread which had come out of a preheated bag . (I had eaten it before in less salubrious establishments).Poor show really considering the 2 stars and prices. I found the wine pairings measley, some of questionable quality and others not well matched to the courses . ( Who really drinks orange wine ?) However all told …pure theatre and a unique experience . Worth a visit though just to prove me a bit of s curmudgeon!
Be the first to ReplyA delicious experience from start to finish
We went to Ricard Camarena for our 28th wedding anniversary and we were not disappointed. We had looked forward to this meal since planning a one month vacation to Valencia. A welcome letter from Ricard and cava was a very thoughtful and appreciated gesture. So to the food … the philosophy of the chef is to use every part of the produce and as a result the innovation of the dishes is extraordinary. We enjoyed the opportunity to meet Ricard and for him to share some of this philosophy. All in all a memorable, wonderful, delicious and elegant restaurant. We will be back.
Be the first to ReplyFantastic dinning experience.
Wonderful dinning experience. Loved every dish. Really appreciate the focus on seafood and vegetables. The sommelier was so helpful. We loved the wine she suggested. The room is beautifully designed. Should be 3 stars. An important restaurant for the whole region, and one of the best we have ever experienced in Spain
