Disappointing unfortunately, but good service
It had been a long time since we had been there and unfortunately it is not the same restaurant at all. More bistro than gourmet and nowhere near a Michelin restaurant. Mainly prefabricated starters, i.a. which therefore ended up dry or fridge cold and everything was generally too salty. Quite cozy but unimpressive and especially when you measure it with what that restaurant was before. In return for excellent service, which you end up feeling completely sorry for because the food does not live up to those who are in the firing line...

We dined here on a Wednesday night in December. Definitely need a reservation as it was quite busy. We left at 21:30 and most diners were already finished. More like a tapas place with shareable portions. Nice bottle of nonalcoholic wine!

Canalside restaurant with waterside terrace. Impeccable service, inventive and refined tapas-style cuisine. We shared 3 starters (oysters with bloody Mary, tuna poke and burrata) and a foccacia bread, then 2 dishes, a potato waffle with crab and a grilled black cod. All with a Spanish wine recommended by the waiter. Our best meal in Copenhagen.

What a lovely and wonderful culinary experience! Lovely starter, main course and dessert and very good service! Nice surroundings and fast service!
Be the first to ReplyA glorious lunch
Yes, it is like tapas and yes, it is expensive. But it is absolutely worth it, one of the best meals we've ever had. Highly recommended

The food is amazing. Tapas sized dishes so you can try a variety of dishes. Great location, easy to get to. Nice atmosphere. They could work on cocktails but that’s not their focus. Price is quite reasonable. About $200 USD for 2 people having 4 drinks and about 9 dishes. Again, the food is wonderful.

Very good restaurant located close to the center and the marina. Everything was very good and very fine. Beautiful terrace also.

I don’t understand the prior reviews but the restaurant wasn’t full when we visited. The food glorious!! We had 4 “snacks” to share. The cucumber was a revelation & delicious. Then we had one each of the fish, greens, grill. Again all delicious but probably over ordered. 2 bottles of wine The whole experience was wonderful & the service great. I was there with Danish speakers so that helped. Recommended and would return

Was here with family who love good food (three adults). The food was good but not as woow as we had hoped for. A bare and bare room, which gave a lot of noise. Hard peg chairs to sit on for a long time. A small pillow perhaps? However, it is nicely located by the canal. Are there any parking spaces in the yard for guests (estimated). Our waitress? didn't have a good day. Her mood is felt by the staff and added a dull feeling to our dinner. Otherwise, the rest of the staff are fantastically service-minded and with a smile on their faces. Kudos to the rest of you who made our evening nice with your attitude. Error on the bill that required a return visit the next day to get back the double bang of DKK 450. DKR 45/person for a little water, feels sour. Revisit? No thanks.

Revitalized a few years ago it now serves non-dogmatic food with focus on taste and enjoyment. Share 6-8-10 dishes for an optimal experience and trust the sommelier to match wines.
Be the first to ReplyOK food, bad service
Had been looking forward to dining here, but was unfortunately very disappointed. The service was very slow all the time. One of us is allergic to gluten and asked immediately upon getting the menu which of the dishes she could order. The waiter was going to check with the kitchen, but never came back. When she finally came to take our orders, we asked again and was told that we just had to order one of the dishes which were gluten free - still not knowing which ones this was. Then the food eventually came, first the miniature starters which we enjoyed. After this, we had ordered two of the small main courses each and two dishes of vegetables to share with the mains. Two of us got our two dishes served, the third person got only one. Had to wait more than 30 minutes for the last dish after asking twice for it. They then wanted to serve us our vegetables which we refused since we had long finished eating. Just a very strange experience. Not recommended.

Minute portions of food that isn’t as special as they think it is. When you order ravioli, you get just one, containing lobster you can’t taste; when you order focaccia, you get (burnt) bruschetta, and then only after your main course because they forgot it. No provision for vegetarians. Noisy and hot when we were there. Overpriced even by Copenhagen standards

A bit different restaurant. You would actually eat a bunch of tapas plates. All delicious. A bit cold service but definitely a place to visit in copenhagen.
Be the first to ReplyThe joke is on me.
This place was recommended by our tour guide. Have no idea why. In fairness I have to say they were busy and many appeared to br locals. It is really a tapas bar in disguise. Every item was very expensive even by Copenhagen standards but the smallest portions I have ever seen. A 3 ounce pour of house chardonnay is 150 DKK ( $21). A very chalky Temparillo was $18 for 3 ounces. A double Beefeaters on the rocks is 1 ounce and $22. The $10 scallop appetizer was 3 of the smallest scallops I have ever seen. The crab ravioli appetizers was 1 very small noodle with nothing noticed inside. We splurged for the sea bass for 2 as our shared entree. This baby fish is the smallest sea bass I have ever seen even as a main course for one person and no waiter assistance is offered to debone or divide. This will be a memorable experience for sure.

Some dishes were in way too small portions, the pork was dry and just a couple of bites. Expensive and not really value for money, you can find many more better restaurants in the area.
Be the first to ReplyBest restaurant by far in Copenhagen! Go - You will thank me later.
Kanalen is by far the best restaurant in Copenhagen at the moment! We have been there twice just the last month. The only bad thing about the dishes is that you really want to order all of them twice! They are THAT good! When you go do your self a favor and order the peach burrata ( I haven’t tasted a more delicious burrata in my life ) go for the truffle toast - absolutely mouth watering, take the Parmesan pappadoms and the flat bread! Really all of the dishes are amazing, but these are just my favorites. When it comes to desserts they are completely out of this world delicious! We ordered three desserts for sharing and I was almost crying when we finished them - I so badly wanted another round 😂 You get the point - If you want to try the best food in Copenhagen go to Restaurant Kanalen. Lastly I have to mention the service which is completely outstanding!
Be the first to ReplyUnexpected good!
This restaurant was a great find! The menu items are unique, delicious, and beautifully presented. We enjoyed starters, mains, desserts, and drinks. The atmosphere and service were warm and welcoming. Highly recommended!
Be the first to ReplyLovely setting, great ambiance but overpriced
Lovely setting on th bank of the canal. Place was buzzing. Different approach to the menu - choose lots of little starters and some mid size courses so you get a lot of flavours which was great. We had a mix of starters - pickled cucumber (superb), basically a cheese and ham toastie (disappointing), mushroom arancini (good) and a toasted bread which was ok. For our mid course we had a black cod with cabbage which was very tasty but very salty with an asparagus with a parmesan crisp and my husband had the fried quail which he really enjoyed but said was too small. The wine was quite expensive - we had a bottle and a glass each - and we ended the meal with two portions of cheese between us. The bill was £160 which we felt was way too expensive for what we had - good experience but one we would not repeat at that price. The other point was that the tables were way too close together for comfort and we could hear everything our neighbours said so there was no privacy and it was impossible to move around the room without bumping into the other diners.

Absolutely excellent food! Small dishes but if you order enough you will certainly get full! The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming. Service attentive, but wait to be seated a little longer than one would expect when holding a reservation
Be the first to ReplySuperb food - a highlight of trip to Copenhagen
Fantastic food - fresh and creative and beautifully presented. Also has a great ambience and friendly staff. Highly recommend!
Be the first to ReplyReally, really wonderful
I was there five years ago where they made - very good - traditional Danish food. The kitchen has had a makeover, and the food is now more more modern and more French inspired.
The oysters with frozen Bloody Mary were really outstanding - an incredibly well-matched combination.
The tartare and pork with mashed potatoes were also excellent, though small and so was the rice pudding. The restaurant does a really good job of mixing textures, and the service is friendly to boot.
An you cannot beat the picturesque location
