A memorable stay with Jen Orchard gateway
The front desk staff Mei Xian was very helpful , pleasant and went out all the way to arrange our rooms close to the lift considering that I was heavily pregnant so I did not have to walk far to the room, had our rooms upgraded . She is a true gem for being such thoughtful. We had a very pleasant day
Not as good as it was pre Covid
POOL AREA: Renovations at the pool were very disappointing. Had they advertised that on their website, then I would have chosen to stay elsewhere. I came for the wonderful pool area I enjoyed so much on my last visit for a special birthday. I realise they have to replenish the decking at some point, but it’s hardly relaxing with power saws and hammers going, plus they didn’t stop at night - it was still going at 9.30pm! So you can’t even have a quiet soak after hours and enjoy the city lights. The deck was in very bad need of repair, so I don’t deny it needs doing, just better/more open communication about it on their website would give travellers a choice. CHECKIN: My pre check-in was excellent with a very friendly/smiling/communicative girl, but then the actual person who checked me in barely spoke to me/no smile/no information and only gave me one room card (I had to go back and ask for another as you need one to keep the lights on). SERVICE: I found it a challenge to get concierge assistance. At first the English from one staff member was so poor that she couldn’t understand at all what I was asking. Then I was directed to a self-service machine to do it myself. So there’s no real personal level of service. I did finally locate the concierge who rang up the museum on my behalf, but then handed me the phone to talk to them (which I could have done myself). AMENITIES: There is literally nothing in your room - no plate, wine glass or even a teaspoon (they give you wooden stirrers). When I asked for cutlery, I was given a plastic set. I found that very poor for a hotel of this calibre (I stayed in another Singapore hotel over the weekend (which was cheaper) and it had teaspoons, cups & saucers, mugs, wine glasses, champagne flutes AND free mini bar items). There is an app here where you can order things, but you have to join their Shangri-la club to use that feature. I have only just managed to get off their mailing list from 5 years ago because I was sick of them calling me “Mister” when I am a “Miss”. FOOD & BEVERAGE: There is no longer a bar on Level 10 (there was last time I stayed), so things must have been cut back after Covid. The Hotels.com app said they have 24 hour room service, but food service is closed from 9.30pm-6.30am, so that is false advertising. And although the pool & bar is open until 10/11 there is no food after 9.30pm. Considering how international Singapore is and that flights come in 24/7 then I think this hotel should cater to that. POSITIVES: It’s good to see Jeno (and now Jeni) still there - service robots. And the room housekeeping crew were exceptional. They also sent someone to my room immediately when the TV remote needed replacement batteries. OVERALL: I am finding the rooms bland, the bed hard, and the JEN experience very disappointing for the price (over $500 NZ per night).
Best hotel in Singapore
This hotel is located conveniently in the heart of Orchard Road so easy to get to shops, eateries and connecting to the MRT/buses. The infinity pool overlooking the city skyline. Staff were friendly and very courteous. The room was beyond comfortable and was well equipped. Foods & Beverages at this hotel are good quality , setup with good ambience, put on an amazing spread, offering one of the best buffet breakfast in Singapore. I was very pleased with my stay. I hope to be back for a longer visit in the future.
Convenient Location, But Room for Improvement
Our experience at JEN Singapore Orchardgateway by Shangri-La was a mix of convenience and some disappointments. Initially, upon entering the building, we were asked to sign up for something unrelated to our hotel stay, which was confusing. We later found out that the actual hotel starts on level 10, a detail that wasn't made clear to us beforehand. Arriving tired after travel at the hotel at 10:30 PM, we were dismayed to learn that room service had already stopped at 8 PM. This seemed unusually early, especially for a hotel catering to international guests who might arrive at all hours. The room's design was modern but impractical in terms of privacy. The bathroom and toilet areas are only minimally separated from the sleeping area, which can be awkward. On a brighter note, the rooftop bar and pool were exceptional. The views from the top are stunning, offering a spacious and inviting area to relax and enjoy the cityscape. Additionally, the hotel's location directly above a railway station made it incredibly convenient to explore the city, enhancing our overall mobility during the stay. Overall, JEN Singapore Orchardgateway by Shangri-La offers great amenities like the rooftop area and excellent location but falls short in service and room design. A solid three-star rating feels right for our mixed experience.
Jen has wonderful food, drinks and staff
Rooms were good, location is great, pool is exceptional, food drinks were high quality and staff were excellent. In particular, JB at the Tiki Bar and Mavis over breakfast were wonderful. I recommend the hotel, just be aware that Singapore is very hot, although attractions were incredible.
Exceptional Staffs Making It A Top Notch Experience
I had the most delightful stay at Jen Singapore Orchard Gateway thanks to their exceptional staff! Shout out to Miss Zoey, Scholas, Alyssa and Fiona. From the warm welcome at check-in to the attentive service throughout my stay, every interaction was marked by professionalism and genuine care. The four went above and beyond to ensure my comfort and satisfaction, making me feel like a valued guest. Their dedication and friendliness truly made my experience memorable, and I can’t wait to return for another stay!
A couple of days of refinement before the hustle and bustle of Vietnam
Very nice hotel but 1st room wasn't what we expected from the photos so they changed it for us. Great pool on the roof with bar service. Location is right on the top of Somerset MRT station which we used extensively to get to Satay St, Gardens by the Bay, river cruise, etc.
Return to the Jen Orchardgateway
We have just returned from Singapore staying at the Hotel Jen Orchardgateway. After four years due to Covid and other issues we had not been able to return to Singapore and we were delighted that this year we managed to do so. We have stayed at the Jen on numerous occasions and, we can truly say, that after a long gap it was truly the icing on the cake for us. Both my daughter and myself would like to thank all of those involved from reception, staff in the Makan, the staff who took care of our room, pool staff and concierge. In paricular we would like to thank Jeraldine and all the the team in the Club Lounge. Jeraldine in particular is an absolute treasure, chatting on an evening whereby she was very interested in what we had done and imparting all of her knowledge on Singapore it was very much appreciated. We have visited Singapore for many years but we are always keen to listen to new ideas. Thank you once again to all who made our holiday such a memorable occasion in the wonderful country of Singapore whereby we felt we had truly arrived home.
Super return to Singapore
Just completed 10 night stay at the fab Hotel Jen Orchard Gateway - we are return visitors after an extended enforced gap due to COVID and other problems. The return has confirmed how much we love both this hotel and the whole country. Fantastic location, central with very easy access to MRT, friendly and attentive staff, lovely immaculately presented and maintained room with great breakfast buffet in the Makan restaurant. Club Room Lounge superb after a day exploring Singapore. This hotel never disappoints and is consistently superior in terms of the service it provides. Looking forward to being able to return and hope this will be in the near future.
Nice hotel in a great location
Nice, clean hotel in a great location just off Orchard Road. Rooms are nice and big but the rooftop pool is the real winner for me. Great view of the city from the pool. Some works were ongoing whilst there which were noisy but have to be done at some time I guess!
