Was only here for drinks because the dinner list was full.
$20 drinks were good but not memorable. Ambiance is nice for a trendy date night.

I came here a few weeks ago with my girlfriend to celebrate! My friend thought they had happy hour but turns out this location does not. No problem for me as I was treating myself to filet mignon! We were sat at the bar and ordered our drinks which were very tasty! We ordered the house bread rolls which were sooooo good (drool over picture attached), filet mignon with a side of black truffle au gratin potatoes! My friend ordered some other type of meat. We both loved alllll the food, however, very pricey. I believe my steak was $60 with zero sides and the potatoes were $30. Delicious but expensive. We also had to try dessert as soon as I saw butter cake on the menu. However, this is not the typical butter cake I am used to being obsessed with (sugar crust with a light glaze of some kind on top). This butter cake was made with sour cream ice cream, and had cream cheese frosting/drizzle all over. It was ok. Our bartender was awesome as our server and we enjoyed him very much!
Be the first to ReplyCame in for a birthday dinner.
I was hesitant with the mixed reviews. Some say the food was terrible!NO WAY the food was absolutely delicious. Steaks cooked to perfection! We got the largest board and added a ribeye, we had the rolls and tuna to start and it was perfect. Then we added fettuccine Alfredo, ravioli, asparagus, Brussels, Caesar salads, and Mac and cheese as our sides. Literally loved it all. There were 6 of us and we know food. The service was phenomenal and our server knew everything about the menu. We got crème brûlée for dessert and the banana cheesecake. Can't wait to go back
Be the first to ReplyLoved the ambiance of this restaurant.
Food and service r were great! Our server Alison was the sweetest. You could tell that she was experienced. Since there were 6 of us we ordered a bunch of food to get a true taste of the menu.Poke- it was a bit fishy for me... I've had better so I wouldn't order this again Bacon- sooooo delicious it's basically a. Pork belly app...I highly Recommend this!Caesar salad with fried anchovies- loved this and the anchovies elevated it even more Dinner roll- yummy ... the beef butter Made it even more tastyOysters - east coast and west coast ... Enjoyed the west coast ones but Disliked the east coast ones as it tasted too briney yuckPotato ai gratin- it was rich and cheesyBranzino- love it when it's the whole fish and deboned for you... Delicious! The Executive Board- 3 different cuts of aged beef all cooked perfectly- medium rare (filet mignon, rib eye and NY Strip. Didn't disappoint!Mushrooms- loved the variety of mushrooms all sautéed together Onion rings- supposed to be fried with Pickle juice . It was ok . I wouldn't order this again Asparagus- cooked perfectly Creme brûlée- seemed to be a bit overcooked, Ive had better Butter cake- excellent dessert! And that Cream on top was so good!Mini baked Alaska- birthday desert was cuteThis was a great experience and I would recommend this restaurant to others. In fact I would like to try their Solana beach location just to compare. Great spot!Almost forgot to mention that the Restrooms are a hoot. You can see the men's restroom from outside the restaurant LOL. (Now you really need to go check it out to know what I'm referring to haha)
Be the first to ReplyOur opinion: Worst service and payment process ever, ruin
Our opinion: Worst service and payment process ever, ruin our evening was late to our concert lost our seats. After clearly agreed to separate checks of 5, then a single bill was dropped on our table. It took nearly 45 minutes for restaurant management to straighten out the appropriate charges. They also charged my credit card for a reservation fee when I booked the table weeks before, I was told such credit would be apply to my check. However, they didn't credit our check for such fee until I requested for it and the management's explanation on the discrepancy of the credit amount is rather confusing. Two of our dishes had to be returned. All these led to an unpleasant & tense dining experience. We hope this feedback helps improve future service.
Be the first to ReplySuper expensive and arrogant staff.
No view and stuck on cedros. Go to the 101 and avoid this place.
Be the first to ReplyI have been to a number of Trust Restaurants over the years
I have been to a number of Trust Restaurants over the years including the Rare Society in University Heights and the Solana Beach location. I have NEVER been treated so rudely by staff as my party of 4 was in Solana Beach last night. We had a 7:30 reservation, but got their a little early. They were not able to seat us early which was not a problem so I said we would go to the bar. That's when the basics of customer service started to break down. First, we were told there was no standing in the bar. It was a chilly night and did not want to stand outside so we walked in and just stood near the entrance. A table with seating for up to 4 people opened up in the bar area and we walked over to sit and we told that the this table is only for parties of two. Then some seats at the bar itself opened up and we walked over only to be told by staff you have to have a reservation to sit at the bar. A reservation to sit at the bar? You must be kidding me. At this point with no place to sit or the opportunity to stand and enjoy a drink before dinner we decided to cancel our reservation and went to a much more customer centric restaurant without ridiculous rules and a much friendly staff (where we enjoyed paying over $600 for drinks and a meal) This incident was so far removed from the positive experience I've had at Trust, Cardellino's or Ft Oak which as app under the same ownership. I won't be going back to the Rare Society in Solana Beach.
Be the first to ReplyI thought the ambiance was very nice and no complaints
I thought the ambiance was very nice and no complaints about the service, but I don't think I'll be returning because of the food. We ordered an artichoke appetizer and honestly, it was like getting something that someone already ate. The best part of an artichoke I feel is the "heart" and the stem sliced down the middle had a couple of leaves that were the outside leaves and NO heart, completely removed! The lamb chops that we also ordered, were good, one had more than two bites to enjoy, but one left you with just merely two bites, less than satisfying, overpriced for very little.

Service was absolutely horrible, I've had better from a fast food restaurant! Our waitress Alice (Alisa) took our order and literally didn't check on us once until after we paid our bill which was incorrect and had to be fixed. She was pleasant when we ordered but another waiter brought us our food and we were missing a side dish and just expected that they were still bringing items out. No one came to check on us and the side never arrived. The busser noticed we had our credit card out and offered to take it to our waitress, I think she was embarrassed by the fact that she never came around. The waitress ran the credit card and dropped off the receipt for signature and left so quick. To our dismay the charge for the missing side was there and so we were able to flag down the busser who again took the check to the waitress. She came out and said sorry here you go and walked away again. Very disappointing!Food was good though, simple and clean. I had the filet and it was cooked just right. Given the low quality of food service I'd definitely go to other steak houses in the area before going here again.
Be the first to ReplyEverything about this restaurant if fantastic.
Except, sadly, the food. Ambiance / atmosphere is wonderful Staff are all lovely and servers are attentive I had a fillet and it was so dry. Someone else at our table got the artichokes. They must have poured an entire bottle of pepper over them.
Be the first to ReplyFun place, great atmosphere, staff awesome, steaks
Fun place, great atmosphere, staff awesome, steaks excellent, again way to much salt. They should rename the place Rare Salt Society. Mashed potatoes, more salt than potato. They must own a salt co. Lol
Be the first to ReplyI was looking forward to dining here, (Solana Beach
I was looking forward to dining here, (Solana Beach location) I had seen posts on Instagram of people getting served the large plater/board of various meats and super nice looking side dishes. I think for me it could have been better. I had a reservation to be seated outside/patio. The tables are soooo extremely close to each other. I would say awkwardly close. My table neighbor's conversations were clearly heard without even trying due to the too close table proximity. Also, wait staff/servers are able to squeeze in between the narrow space of the occupied tables, it's narrow so that means if they (wait staff) are seeing to your neighbor's table you pretty much have their back to you, so their backsides are almost appearing to be able to come in contact with ones food on the table. TOO CLOSE! I love dogs, love animals, but when I pay $$$ to eat at a restaurant I do not need to have large dogs at the table next to me. Especially if a person simply walking their dog get's noticed by a Rare Society patio customer's dog next to me and a barking, growling, attack stance by the dog less than six inches away from me ensues! Not cool, unexpected and was a bummer. Overall, I thought the food presentation was great, the servers are very polite. The food was overly salty for my taste. I really wanted to like this place too.
Be the first to ReplyReally bad food.
Everything is over salted. Only positive was our server. She was very competent and friendly.
Be the first to ReplyAwesome friendly staff, cool atmosphere.
Definitely a modern Solana Beach trendy feel. This is a great steakhouse if you don't really care about the food which was pretty bad besides the steak. Caesar Salad was a creation I would imagine a Jack in the Box executive would concoct to garner stoners at 1am. This thing had more dressing and cheese than lettuce. There was a cool concept of deep frying the anchovies, but they were muddled under a thick thick coat of Tempura. and with the cups of cheese and dressing the last thing this salad needed was more transfats. This had to have been the worst thing I have ever scarfed down in a fit of hunger. I was sitting at the bar and with my friend so didn't have the balls to send it back. This was like a state fair caesar salad. Bone marrow was solid, good mouth taste and texture with good aromas. Served with sweet pickled beets.Tartare went with the theme of heavy that we saw with the salad. too much salt, dijon , oil too. Just a gut bomb. Steak was solid. You could tell it was hit with a good seasoning and a hint of smoke. Taste was excellent, cut was good. Execution of medium rare was a miss. Probably under the gun in the kitchen as the consistency through out was not medium rare but more rare in the middle. So it was not brought to room temp before seared. rare works better for leaner steaks. Onion rings were just giant portions of tempura batter. I mean it was comical almost. The inside of the batter didn't even cook all the way through it was soggy on the inside. It was giant clumps of batter. At this point I was like nope never again. I will go drink here but not eat. Seriously who made that tempura batter so thick that everything it got coated in left an inch of breading ? Ultimately North County (omit up and coming Oceanside) is not a spot for good food. It is more about the posh ambience, crafty cocktails and scene. I was disappointed because I read great things about chef Brad Wise's spots , but ultimately he is not back there cooking steaks. I will definitely try one of his spots again, but the execution of the food here was so bad I would have placed more confidence in a top chef junior contestant making my food.

Really cute steakhouse that also has plenty of seafood options. Be sure to try out one of their specialty cocktails! They have a dog friendly patio.
Be the first to ReplyYou definitely need reservations for this establishment.
It's popular.... Trendy... and serves up some delicious food. The bread alone is sinfully smothered in butter. The meat platter was amazing. Great service.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointed, but has promise.
Really wanted to like it. There was no cool or interesting vibe or energy in the place. Service was great. We were served promptly, efficiently and kindly. This review is more about the actual food. Our starter was the prawns, covered in Old Bay. Old Bay is pretty powerful. Less would have been more. The cocktail sauce was underwhelming, closer to ketchup than cocktail sauce. The steak, (filet) my choice and pork chop (hubby's choice), were very good cuts of meat. Cooked to perfection. The problem was the seasoning. Everything we ordered tasted like it had been soaked in salt. Both servings of meat, the whipped potatoes, the mushrooms and those rolls!! It was soooooo much salt, it was overwhelming. So overwhelming that we could not finish the meal. We decided to bring our meal home so that I could adjust it some. I will rinse the salt off the meats. We decided against desserts. I would go back a second time. We were told that we should ask for a light or no "finishing salt" the next time. Portion sizes were great and again the cuts of meat were great. We grew up in Chicago, dining at some of the best steak houses in the country and we had high hopes for dinner tonight. I would suggest creating a bit more vibe or energy in the place and a less heavy hand all around with the seasonings.

Rare Society is the best addition to Solana Beach! Great steak, delicious grilled artichokes and yummy craft cocktails. Definitely a scene at happy hour.
Be the first to ReplyWe were finally able to get reservations on a Sunday night.
We showed up a little early thinking we could grab a drink at the bar. Bad thinking. They use the bar to serve walk ups so they would not let us in. A bit of a buzz kill to wander around Cedros when everything is closed. We decided to splurge on the lobster appetizer. It was tasty but a little too salty. The board is an impressive display of meats. We ordered medium rare + and got medium rare -. The issue I have with getting the board is the meat cools down much faster compared to it getting served on a piping hot plate. We will go back again, arrive on time and not get a board and see if we can get the rating to 4 stars. Service was great.

This may have been the best steak I have EVER had in my life! We made a reservation 2 months ahead for this amazing experience. The restaurant is modern but has a classic elegance. The servers and hostess were above and beyond friendly. And the food was outstanding! We started with the parker house rolls and artichoke. Both were excellent. Based on previous reviews, we went with the Associate board to share with 3 people and 1 person got the ribeye. With the first bite, we all looked at each other in amazement. We are all "foodies" and we were all struck by the meal. Our sides of whipped potatoes and creamed spinach were also brilliant. The spinach doesn't have a heavy cream presence (which I actually prefer) so expect more spinach than cream. We ended with the butter cake and strawberry creme brulee. The butter cake is a must but the strawberry brulee deviated a bit too much from the taste I was hoping for. Overall, I can't possibly recommend Rare Society Solana Beach enough!
Be the first to ReplyMy wife and I tried the restaurant last evening.
We ordered the 35 day dry aged rib eye and the filet along with whipped potatoes and Parker house rolls. The rolls were ok. Clearly not worth $14. The steaks and potatoes were all about the salt. So much salt. All I could taste was the salt. The steaks were cooked medium rare as we requested. The ribeye was excessively fatty. They only have 1 prime steak on the menu and it's the 16 oz ribeye. Their reasoning is that the dry aging creates a more tender steak and it helps keep costs down. But we still spent $280 for the 2 of us. Finally the Parker house rolls. They come with truffle butter but they were nothing special. Additionally, be aware the restaurant adds a 4% surcharge for employee wages. I really don't agree with the policy. Simply charge what you need to charge for your menu to cover your expenses etc and let the consumer decide if it's worth the cost!

Steaks cooked to perfection and substantial shareable desserts. Pricey but comes with lively atmosphere.

Went here again my friends like it so altho this time it was not as good the constant smell of a drink they smoke was really irriatating gave a few of us headaches. We ordered lobsters, steaks, ordered both clams which I was not happy with I cracked a filling because there was a shell. I tired another one same thing. The salads were not as good either And the desserts which my table loved.

00, I left with a headache due to the noise and thirst due to the salt. As for the restaurant itself, it's okay. It reminds me of a restaurant inside of a casino. Small, loud, trendy, expensive and the bathroom is outside. The food was okay but salty. The shrimp cocktail was salty due to the old bay seasoning. The steak (35-day dry-aged ribeye) was seasoned very heavily (salty), and the added smoke seemed to enhance that. The ribeye itself was overcooked. No big deal, I can handle medium, but the steak was tough and difficult to cut. I thought it was odd that most of the fat cap was gone, but that could be due to the trimming of the dry-aged meat. We even thought the macaroni and cheese was salty too. We finished with the butter cake, and even that was disappointing. It was dry and didn't have any crunch to it. I would have been better off getting the butter cake over at CPK, and I mean that. The restaurant was very busy, and you could tell it's ran well. The open kitchen is cool too. However, the restaurant is 50 percent bar, and 50 percent sit down. As we were eating, the people at the bar were bleeding over to where we were sitting. It wasn't enjoyable. Then there was the sound. Wow, it was loud! There is no barrier which makes the restaurant open and loud. With that being said, it seems like this restaurant is either for going out with boys or going out with the girls. It's not a family dinner or good date spot, in my opinion. That is if you don't mind paying on average $25.00 a drink. One more thing, because we were near the bar, we constantly kept getting overwhelmed with a smoke smell because of one of the drinks requires something to be burned. It's annoying after about the third drink.
Be the first to ReplyThis now is a steak house.
Prices are $$. But for good steak how could you not pass it up. The mac n cheese was not the best, and the drink was whatever. Would 100% come back. I got the aged dry New York. I couldn't tell the difference but the bf said it's more flavory. I liked his filet better. Sadly my crohns did not approve but that's something I knew was going to happen. The ambiance was wonderful. Music wasn't loud at all. Service was great. They do add a 4% living charge fee on the bill.
