Disappointed. Has potential to be a great gastronomic destination.
Recommended by our hotel and others due to its unique dining experience being in a vault setting. Due to the wind, we decided to sit inside, which has a great ambience at night. Unfortunately, the service was poor. There were an ample amount of the waiting staff standing to the side not doing much even though there were plates to be removed from other tables/ wanting drinks. There was an obvious issue with service. I could hear other tables mention how long they have waited. One guest had to go down to the other end of the vault to ask for salt. Seems the only member of staff that was proactive was the manager who was clearing plates, delivering drinks, etc. We ordered the Chicken Liver Parfait to start. It was OK but nothing special. For main we both ordered the Crab and Lobster Ravioli. I like my pasta al dente, but this was undercooked. Pasta was too thick, and the sauce had no flavour. When raising our issues over the main, we were offered a replacement. We declined, as we waited so long for our mains that I didn't want to wait another half hour. We didn't stay for pudding as the previous two courses gave us an impression that it would be underwhelming. We were given complimentary limoncello before leaving. This place has the potential to be great but lacking in detail, from the food to the service.
Be the first to ReplyPleasant setting. Nice food but nothing special.
The setting is very pleasant. The presentation of the food was lovely. We had calamari to start which was tasty.my risotto was drenched in a sauce which so me and my daughter did not enjoy it. My husband liked his dish. The cheesecake dessert was okay, nothing special. Overall, it was a nice dining experience but don’t expect to be Wowed!

Absolutely amazing food, service was excellent, not cheap but worth every penny, the duck was divine best I've had in a long time
Be the first to ReplyBadly prepared food in a lovely setting
The setting was lovely and the menu tantalising. We four plumped for three crab and lobster ravioli in a prawn bisque and the pumpkin risotto as starters. The pumpkin risotto was excellent - we all had a taste. And it was hot. Not so the ravioli which was cooked just a little too al dente but most importantly was swimming in a tasty but lukewarm and in parts cold sauce. In came the mains. Duck breast - beautifully pink but lukewarm, chicken supreme - lukewarm , roast pork with pickled apples - overcooked, dry and cold. The salmon fillet served to the friend who had ordered the risotto was hot, straight from the pan and perfectly cooked. There was no point in asking for the food to be heated - the duck would then have been well done, the chicken dry and the pork inedible. I suspect one friend would have been left eating the salmon alone. This is always the dilemma in these circumstances. This was potentially a great meal in what is potentially a very good restaurant. It’s obvious what happened the chef preparing the risotto and salmon left the other dishes on the pass whilst finishing them. These comments are intended to be helpful and I hope that they are taken in that spirit.
Be the first to ReplyWow so good!!!
We had soup, squid and rabbit, as well as veal with artichokes, tiramisu and unstructured cannoli. Everything was very good. Personally I give the rabbit a score of 20 out of 20. The setting, the attentive service, the price and the quantity are very correct. Really worth doing!

The spot was amazing, although a bit cold for dinning outside but we went in March so I guess this was expected. Food was good. No cocktail list in this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyMagnificent setting
Magnificent setting, we chose to eat a very good Maltese specialty soup. The staff is friendly and very competent. The price-quality ratio is honest.

A cozy place, well located in Valletta and off the beaten track. The perfect place where I come with some friends who come to see me in Malta. The service is still good, it could be better considering the type of restaurant but there are no complaints, only potential improvements The meal itself was good, there are a lot of restaurants and competition in the capital but I will give the meal an 8/10

Classy restaurant, fantastic setting within the city walls. We had dinner both outside, which was fantastic, and inside. Good food, normal portions as were the prices. Classy
Be the first to ReplyHidden gem.
If you happened upon this place in the street you might not be tempted in. The menu displayed looks a bit unimaginative and there is no real indication of the wonderful terrace setting tucked between the imposing walls of the city. The menu turns out to be much more extensive and bold. My duck with feta and chocolate was perfectly balanced and a real surprise. Service is attentive. Wines are reasonably priced. A great night out!
Be the first to ReplyGreat restaurant find!
Our party of 4 was delighted we found Rampila restaurant while rambling in Valletta. Great dinner menu selection and the dishes were well presented and appetizing. We each had different main courses and all were delicious. Professional, helpful and very pleasant staff, particularly our lady server who recommended an excellent red wine. Bill for 4 was approx 200eu including wine and bottled water. Good value for really good restaurant. The restaurant is tucked away down steep stairs on a side street but is very close to the City Gate entrance to Valletta. The evening was chilly so we sat indoors in cave like surroundings but there is a terrace too. Restaurant was busy on a Thursday evening.
Be the first to ReplyGreat location but...
Great location but apart from that, not recommended sadly. The food was mediocre at best. Mussels in wine sauce were very small and the liquor was so salty it was inedible. When we told the Maitre, she explained that mussels are salty...... She did offer to get us something else. The pork cheek ragu was tepid so I asked for it to be warmed up .Rabbit stew was plentiful but unremarkable. Overall, disappointing experience.

What a wonderful hidden gem, it took us some time finding how to get into this beautiful restaurant having seen it from the walkway to the bus station! The food was delicious, and the service was excellent and both attentive and distant which is what we liked! We chose to eat outside and they put the heating on for us and politely left us to eat a wonderful ravioli and risotto. The price is reasonable but the experience was fine dining. Two meals, bread with dipping oil, bottle of wine and coffee was less than £60! Will come back
Be the first to ReplyRabbit is good and that’s all
Very nice view also service is good. But food is average… For me, rabbit was good and delicious but meat and ravioli were not. Meat was not soft and ravioli was too salty. We could eat better in an other restraurants when I consider the bill. Will not come again if I won’t eat rabbit which I can live without.
Be the first to ReplyNot a restaurant I'd return to
I booked a table and was recommended the Terrace, which was pretty chilly. Food was nice/average but I was quite relieved to be able to leave. Sadly I don't think I'd recommend it as nothing stood out.
Be the first to ReplyTotally underwhelmed
Really disappointed. After a week of great food (Guze, Sciacca Grill, Taproom, Trabuxu Bistro) we were looking forward to this. The worst dining experience we had by some distance. Style over substance with a wonderful (if uncomfortably sauna-like heat - outside with no fans) setting, under-seasoned bisques, a surf and turf that delivered a thimble of edible prawn and a mass of of pork fat sold as “pork belly”. Our waiter was inattentive and disinterested which didn’t help. The aforementioned restaurants are far superior. Based on our experience, do yourself a favour and book there instead.

The good bits… unique setting inside the ancient wall of Valletta with a terrace which overlooks the entry bridge to the city. Sorry, but that’s it really… The bad bits, we booked a specific table and this was confirmed, when we got there we were abruptly told that the table was ‘unavailable’ and that it had been the manager’s decision. We were then shown another table and the attitude was pretty much take it or leave…gallingly, a table a very similar to the one we booked remained unoccupied until 10 minutes before we finished our meal. The non-Maltese staff members we encountered were so busy being ‘efficient’ in a slightly patronising way that they forgot the value of charm and good manners. The food is ordinary but overpriced. It is unoriginal and can be found replicated at dozens of restaurants in Valletta where you will be made to feel welcome and not have to dig too deep into your pocket. There is a very loud and disconcerting crackling electrical sound on the terrace which makes you feel you are eating beside an electrical sub-station. Mosquitoes, although mosquitoes may or may not be controllable, it is true that all three of us were bitten multiple times during our meal… during the previous 10 days, none of us had been bitten. All in all a disappointing experience which we will not be repeating. The management/owners should teach their staff to be welcoming and more attentive to customers’ needs.
Be the first to ReplyFood excellent, service average
We booked this restaurant because it was highly recommended and to be fair the food was excellent but overall the experience was let down by the service, which was average at best. EG: I had to ask for a glass to be replaced because it had lipstick on it from the previous user, the waiter gave us a 'specials' menu and when my wife ordered from it she was told the dish was not available and the waiter got confused and offered us desserts before our main courses had arrived. Each of these errors drew apologies from the staff but in a top-quality restaurant they should not have happened. Some time spent on staff training would be in order, methinks.
Be the first to ReplyDon’t make the mistake of not coming here!
One of the single best meals I’ve ever had in Malta, excellent food, wine and a restaurant steeped in history with unbelievably high quality staff.
Be the first to ReplyGreat terrace
This is a lovely spot to enjoy dinner outside, however its still worth eating inside if you can't get a table on the terrace because the food really is good. We ate there twice during out stay and couldn't fault it (first time inside). I really enjoyed the fish on the menu, salmon marinated in soy sauce and the white chocolate cheesecake was excellent!

The pros: > uniquely located restaurant > great views of the entrance to Valletta > extremely friendly and helpful staff - I was personally served by a Colombian gentleman who made it a very enjoyable experience > delicious, relatively priced food The cons: > the terrace needs some form or aircon/ fans as it was uncomfortably warm > there seemed to be quite a few flies around whilst I was trying to eat - not sure if it’s a common thing or just on the day I was there, so perhaps some insect repellant is needed > although the ravioli was delicious, the portion size was far too small and left me hungry still afterwards > I appreciate smoking is unavoidable on one terrace, but I was surrounded by people smoking from all directions which wasn’t a pleasant experience whilst trying to eat - perhaps limit the smoking tables to a specific area

Faultless throughout , we did book and sat inside perhaps a terrace seating next time, but the welcome, service and food was faultless. No rush, no pressure between courses, simply a well run and friendly team. Recommend

Fab location, excellent staff, superb food, great ambiance and incredible VFM, especially if you're used to London prices!
Be the first to ReplyHeard of spices?
Nice location but the food was poor. It was cold, not spiced at all and the lamb was the worst I ever had. My daughter and I were disappointed to say the least.
