Raf's New York Reviews from The Last Year
A Friday night empty restaurant
No beer was a bad start, followed by dry chicken, terrible tuna, cold French fries and a Caesar salad that consisted of four big leafs of old lettuce, a yellowish sauce, allegedly some anchovies, though they couldn't be seen or tasted, and warm water. I did not think it was possible to get a meal this bad in Manhattan.
RAF's I my new favorite restaurant.
They just got everything right. Beyond the food, the decor is impeccable, the vibe is just right and you leave feeling good inside. Also, if you're lucky enough to have Pheobe as your server you're in for a treat. She's a little ray of sunshine.
Beautiful space.
Service mediocre. Burger, excellent flavor - one of the best dipping sauces in Manhattan - served a bit too rare for my liking. Would ask for this one medium personally. Overall it's a go.
Snagged a weekend lunch reservation at Raf's.
This Italian and French restaurant has a bakery up front so you just order baked goods to go if you're not dining in. The bread basket was a great start, with an assortment of breads and olive oil with butter for dipping. We shared the rigatoni, Iberico collar Milanese and burger. The pasta was perfectly al dente and the pork was nicely crispy. Had to end with a croissant and olive oil cake. The cake was covered in thick frosting, but it would have been better without it. Croissant was super flakey! The other pastries in the bakery looked so good and will be back to try them.
Went back for brunch and YUM! Milanese, burger, rigatoni.
... Milanese was my fave super juicy and crunchy and just so good with a little squirt of lemon... burger was a lil overcooked but flavor was good... rigatoni was cooked PERFECTLY (my favorable al dente) nice little bounce back and a lovely sauce. Olive oil cake had too much frosting for my liking, I prefer not overly sweet desserts but the actual cake was moist and fluffy. Love the vibes but fyi they have a (I think wood burning) open oven in the back so the back of the restaurant gets pretty pretty pretty warm ...
I went here for dinner, and in my opinion the food wasn't
I went here for dinner, and in my opinion the food wasn't the greatest. Maybe they're not as known for dinner service but we had the daily selection of bread, which was decent but not the most amazing bread and the butter was a bit greasy. We had the arancini balls (super greasy but flavorful) and tuna crudo (very fishy and the radish overpowered the tuna). Then came the mains which we got the mafaldine, tuna spaghetti, and pork collar. The mafaldine was very lemon-y and I could see how someone could become overwhelmed with the sourness aspect. The pork collar was nothing special, and the tuna spaghetti had a very sharp texture that did not sit well. Service was great, but I've had better food elsewhere
Not going back
Friends and I went for restaurant week. Very noisy. Tables are pretty close to each other. Service was good. Food came out and it appeared my red snapper sat under the heat lights. Meal looked dried out and was not very tasty. Nothing special about this meal. And, don’t they serve bread? Never saw any bread on any table. Will not return.
I'd rate Raf's four and a half stars.
We scored an awesome deal through too good to go, so my opinion is certainly biased. We picked up a box with a chocolate croissant, a prosciutto and taleggio crossiant sandwich, and a citrus tart for $6. The group typically sells for $23.50, so it's tough for me to fairly evaluate the value. Item wise, my favorite was the prosciutto croissant sandwich. My palate leans to savory and fatty so that hit that mark for me. Second favorite was the tart. Interesting contrast of flavors from the citrus and I believe pine nuts. It had the best shelf life of the group.
Incredible food.
I had an amazing dinner here - the roasted chicken and mafaldine are must try's. Even the simple green salad with Dijon vinaigrette was perfect, though; great attention to detail in every ingredient. I've since returned for coffee, pastries, and lunch and have not been disappointed. The staff (hostesses in particular) sometimes seem overwhelmed / not the most welcoming, but highly recommend overall.

Raf's offers an intimate and romantic ambiance with an open kitchen, but my dining experience was marred by subpar service. The staff could benefit from additional training to enhance the overall customer experience.
Stopped in for a fancy work-week lunch.
I was specifically looking for a menu item I saw online, the French onion vol-au-vent, which was sadly not on the menu, but there were plenty of other dishes to try, including several vegetarian options. I got the leeks vinaigrette, which was delicious and loaded with crunchy hazelnuts and an herby sauce, and the rigatoni trapanese, which was perfectly al dente with a tangy tomato sauce. They do not skimp on the sauce and flavor here, which I really appreciate! The service was excellent start to finish - everyone I interacted with was so friendly and warm, and anticipated my needs. I'll be going back very soon, and look forward to trying a cocktail or something from the wine list, and especially dessert.
Excellent breakfast meeting spot I was in Midtown for work
Excellent breakfast meeting spot I was in Midtown for work and met up with a friend coming in from Brooklyn. This was a great place to meet given its proximity to the subway. We met at 9:30am and it was not crowded so we were able to enjoy breakfast and catch-up without feeling crowded or rushed. The food was delicious and the service was top notch. Highly recommended.
Horrible Service & Scam
HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE !! And a scam! We made reservations and were told 1.5 hours, we got there and were told another 20 minutes, we left and came back and were told another 20 minutes while watching people walk in without reservations get a seat instantly. After finally getting a seat we ordered two truffle burgers. They tasted subpar at best. They were $38 each and not worth it. Service was horrible, our waitress did not check on us one time, but checked on the tables on each side of us multiple times. Waitress did not even look at us at all when we were finished so we could ask for the bill, we sat there with our food boxed up for over 15 minutes, all the while she was checking in the tables next to us multiple times. Waitress also gave the tables next to us dessert menus and did not give us one or even ask. All was given was the bill with all the others she checked in with. Also included tip into the bill and it did not say that anywhere, so we left an additional 18% tip on top of the included gratitudy. We did not realize this until after leaving because we were so upset we just wanted to leave. Will not ever be returning to this restaurant and I do not recommend this restaurant .
Great dinner
My wife and I came here on a Friday night. Although it was pretty empty, food was great and service attentive. We both enjoyed our drinks, and the truffle burger was outstanding. They brought me cake for my birthday. Would totally recommend dinner here if you're in midtown/Bryant Park
Lovely airy restaurant
Lovely spacious airy place with friendly welcome staff. Food is delectable but drinks need work for better balance and flavor. Overall I enjoyed this place and will return
They gave us the bums' rush that is for sure...
Food was fine. However the real problem was the way the servers rushed us. We sat down and they literally took our order within minutes of seating - I had barely looked at the menu. They brought our food about 10 minutes later. Portions are on the smaller side so we were literally finished within 25 min of walking into the restaurant. I was enjoying a nice birthday meal with my adult daughter so we wanted to enjoy some conversation. At the one hour mark, we were told that they needed our table. The people at the 2 tables adjacent to us were there when we got there and when we left and were not told they needed to leave. I know that restaurants depend on turnover, but this was a bit out of line - we did spend $70 including tip for breakfast and we had made a reservation. I will not be back!

Prepaid Reservation Fee

When you sell a reservation that has a prepaid fee AT takes a commission on that fee. This doesn’t really make sense because it’s an expense the seller incurs not part of the profit that is shared.
For example:
Carbone NYC fee to book table for 2 is $108.88
If you sell it for $200 on AT you get $140 from them.
Your net profit is $31 and AT collects $60 in fees.
It would make more sense not to charge commission on the upfront fee as this creates a disincentive and results in higher costs for buyers.

Agreed. Ultimately not addressing this month after month is clearly resulting in a drop in certain venue’s rankings & sales.
