Lovely meal but poor experience.
Dinner was as you'd expect and I'm not going to comment on the actual evening as it was fine. The problem was that I live in the UK and purchased a gift card for my brother in law's 60th birthday. It was a fair amount of work to do this but on the night, the restaurant charged them despite this. They said they applied the wrong amount to the bill and were not aware of a problem. When I highlighted the error it took a series of email before they suggested they would refund the credit card (which should have been their first response). Anyway, I won't recommend based on my experience and their seeming disinterest with making good on the error.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible meal and thank you Petra
One of the most incredible meals of my life. Amazing mushroom dish, Al pastor, tortillas, lamb, honestly everything was amazing. The meal was made even better by Petra, who had fabulous recommendations for the meal and our visit to Toronto (visiting from New York City). Thank you Petra and Quetzal team!

Horrific service. Awful food. Highly overrated. We were forgotten about several times, yet still managed a $500 bill. Saves yourselves and go to a restaurant that values customers
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Nouveau Mexican fare at this Michelin 1 star establishment!
Wonderful nouveau Mexican food in the College/Bathurst area. Good luck getting a reservation after Michelin awarded it a 1-star. Staff friendly, try the Tasting Menu starting at $105/person. Good value and lots of food. Good luck and enjoy!

Extraprdinary good experience at Quetzal. We had a table at the kitchen desk and the atmosphere was really nice. Food was outstanding.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing
After trying a few dishes, I don’t have much faith in how a restaurant obtains a Michelin star status. We frequent a lot of restaurants and the food here was well below average. The decor was appealing but be prepared that you will smell of smoke from the grill. The only thing Michelin star about this restaurant is the price.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding treat
We were out sans kids for a treat for my birthday. Hubbo had booked months in advance and deliberately booked the bar where I could watch the kitchen. We spent so much time over the pandemic having 'underwhelming food' I now realize and remember how nice it was to eat out and have good quality food and not feel the need to feel stuffed to feel satisfied. The food was amazing. We only ordered vegetarian and seafood and it was so wonderful to have mexican food that shows the true glory of the cuisine without cheese and cilantro. The service was present but not overbearing. The experience at the counter was great. So much of their menu is done over open fire so it was fun for a home cook like me to watch the process of the restaurant as much as the cooking. It's michelin star is well deserved!!

Very average. Not worth 100 words. Not Micheline star. Clearly they need to review what they are doing. Again very average, not worth repeat visit.
Be the first to ReplyWow! Amazing. Best high end Mexican outside of Topolabamba
Fantastic food. Cocktails were amazing. Deserts were the best Mexican deserts I have had. Just a fantastic night. What a great place.

We were lucky to get a seat last min. We sat at the bar stools where we had a view of the wood fireplace with chefs cooking away. Food was spectacular. Next time will have the mushrooms, long beans, bone marrow and scallops. My husband and me were unsure whether to pick coconut or chocolate dessert to share as I love coconut and he loves chocolate. We were unable to make up our mind and then the server made a generous offer to bring us one of the desserts on the house! Wonderful experience. The location is unusual but the ambience and food are amazing.
Be the first to ReplyConsistently My Favourite Restaurant In Toronto
I have eaten here every single year since 2020. In 2021, I celebrated my 18th birthday here and upon returning to Toronto from my university abroad this summer, Quetzal is the first restaurant I went out to. For my birthday they gifted me a Tres Leche Cake and on my recent visit, they gifted us the Scallop Ceviche. I have tried everything their menu currently has to offer and I can confirm that every single item is delicious. The service, food, drinks, atmosphere, and vibe are top-tier! If you are looking for an exceptionally unique dining experience in the city, make sure to give Quetzal a visit!

Save your money go somewhere else. We had a reservation but because we were with a child they wanted to seat us at the worst table in the restaurant. We asked to move to the next table. The manger came over and told us that we have two hours and have to be out. He was very abrupt and never told anyone else this that we could see. The food is mediocre at best. We had the chicken from the grill which was mostly bones. Save your money. There are far better restaurants in Toronto for much less.
Be the first to ReplyCOVID lockdown - fine dining as Take-Out??? Impossible???
COVID made everyone try something new. Quetzal is a fine dingin establishment with roots into south American cuisine (Chile). They did up a fine dining menu monthly starting in February 2021. Everything is prepped up and boxed for home presentation. Some food requires pa bit of prep or re-heating. Make sure the candles are set anf the fine china is out - Plating fine cuisine is a must - you first eat with your eyes! we had three or four of there monthly specials - - 4 to 5 courses or perfection - just trust the chef to put it together! Bravo Quetzal!

Greeted at the door by friendly host staff. Coats whisked away to the storage. We got a great table beside the open kitchen that runs almost the entire length of the restaurant. Close enough to hear the sizzle and see the sou-chefs prepping the various dishes. Engage the sous-chefs - - they are pleasant and knowledgeable and proud of their work. They seemed genuinely interested that we were enjoying the meal. We had a very pleasant waitress who explained the dining arrangement - essentially tapas - but manage the number of dishes. We ordered three dishes right away - - and we felt we were rushed through them... 1) Coctel campechana to start - seafood cocktail/ceviche with a mixed array of seafood bits - mussels, shrimp, crap, octopus, in a pomegranate vinaigrette (and a little hot sauce). Served chunkier than traditional ceviche. Served with round corn crisps breads/nachos? Ask for more if you run low. I loved this dish. 2) Citrus salad - - pretty straight forward with blood orange, red grapefruit, sea asparagus, jicama (turnip?). Surprisingly not overly bitter or citrusy. Quite sweet. refreshing. 3) Mamelas - cripsy blue corn tortillas with black trumpet mushrooms with a requeson cheese and salsa. Eat with your hands - crunchy and deeply flavourful. Wine was a blush pinot noir - Willamette Valley Cristom perfect match. We should have stopped there, but went on to order a Cornish hen and the "main". Good sized dish - butterflied and blackened, but not overcooked like game hens can be at some places. It was moist and super tender. Served with a side of runner beans with shallots, coconut , and grapefruit garnish. Since we were a first seating, we were reminded that the table was booked later and we needed to "move along" with our meal. My wife was not pleased... We managed to squeeze in a dessert called Nicuatole de Coco con Pina - creamed coconut mousse/custard with pineapple chunks. Nice closer - not time for coffee... All-in it was a great meal, but we did not appreciate the rushed timing as this is not a cheap meal - $280 for two people all in with the wine and tip....
Be the first to ReplyPerfection.
This place has been on our list for a while now. Finally made it out for dinner. WHAT a fabulous experience. The staff are amazing. Front front of house, to chefs, to servers....just all so much fun and so professional. The cocktails were among the best I have ever had in Toronto. The wine list is thoughtfully curated. There are lots of superb non-alcoholic options, too. The food was just perfect. Many choices. All impeccably presented and prepared. We sat at the Chef's Counter. Highly recommend.
Be the first to ReplyExpected Much More
After reading the reviews and perusing the menu online, I expected much more from this restaurant, at which I found the food quality uneven. The sea bass was most definitely the winning dish of the night, and well worth its fairly high price. The skirt steak, though tasty, was a little tough. The tuna tataki appetizer was delicious, but the portion was extremely small. The sweet potato dish was terrific, but the beets in the beet dish were rather hard. The dinner really fell apart at dessert though. There are only 3 choices on the menu, one of which is a sorbet and another of which is Mexican ice cream. Some more imagination is expected in a restaurant such as this one. The ice cream itself was not very good, but to the restaurant's credit, it removed the charge from the bill without our even asking. On the plus side, the restaurant does have a seriously cool vibe, and the service was excellent.
Be the first to ReplyAnother Amazing Experience
Living in NYC now, we were looking so forward to dinner with friends @ Quetzal back in Toronto.
The design of the restaurant is amazing. The staff all just have this cool warm vibe about them that makes the experience that much special. There were 7 of us so left the food selection to our server and he was on point. Every course was unbelievable. Despite all of the Bib Gourmand restaurants we’ve been to in NYC since we moved here 8 months ago, (we try to go to a new one once a week), Quetzal remains at the top of our list.
Ten out of ten!
An amazing food experience
An amazing food experience that lead to an enjoyable evening out. I am not an expert on Mexican foods, but my nephew was. With him and help from the waiter, our selection of dishes were each memorable experiences and prepared to perfection. The staff were the best and always had the best recommendations when you were stuck on what your next dish or drink should be. The atmosphere was pleasant as well. Definitely a place I would come back to. A great place to impress someone looking for authentic Mexican.
Be the first to ReplyThe food in this restaurant is more one experience, than just food! Quetzal es más una experiencia gourmet que solo comi
I am Mexican and Mexican restaurants are normally a disappointment and I prefer to cook instead of paying for bad cooked "want a be" Mexican food, but Quetzal is the exception to the rule. The food in this restaurant is more one experience, than just food, the inspiration and dedications in the recipes and the service is just as perfect as the selection of the ingredients. I have déjà vu no just for recent Mexican dishes that I have tasted recently in my last trip to Oaxaca o Chilpaningo, but even for flavors from my childhood. Thanks Quetzal team for your great contribution.
Authentic fine-dining Mexican
I used to think Mexican was tacos, burritos and enchiladas - the higher-end the restaurant, the better they were. It started much that way with very nice Tetela, but quickly moved to flavourful grilled chorizo with some shrimp on the side. All excellent. Dessert was homemade ice cream with a caramel crisp to die for! Cocktails were authentic and tasty. Service was impeccable and very helpful. Tip: sit at the chef's bar (seats 7& 8) to watch the action. And next time I'm getting the skirt steak and some bbq'd scallops!
Be the first to ReplyTasty menu but high price does not fit the venue
The service was quite good with pleasant hosts and knowledgeable servers. The menu has a broad selection of share plates and all items sampled were very good (especially the ceviche and the grilled whole sea bream). However the wine list is quite limited with an exclusively new world selection and the standard by the glass pour was quite small and very expensive for what it was. Also, the recommendation of 5 share plates for 2 persons results in an extremely expensive dinner. The venue also has low ceilings with poor ventilation with no location to escape the kitchen smoke so you leave remembering the evening by the smell of dinner on your clothes. Overall would be an interesting culinary adventure with a better wine list and an overall better price point.
