Exceptional view
This restaurant on the harbor has a magnificent view of the Sydney Opera House which is just opposite, especially at sunset. The condition, however, is that there is no liner moored in front. If there is a cruise ship like the day we went, you have to wait for the ship to leave (around 7:45 p.m. in our case). Excellent menu, but service between courses a little slow.

We arrived in Sydney and did not have a reservation; the staff were just wonderful and accommodated our booking at quite short notice. We had the 6 course menu with Beluga caviar and matching wines. The service was outstanding, we had a wonderful waitress, the food was exceptional and the matching wines were just delicious. If you are in Sydney and enjoy fine food then Quay is an absolute must! Highly recommended.

Top! Refined, surprising dishes accompanied by unusual wines. Attentive and friendly service. Highly recommended in Sydney! A small downside: it is very noisy.
Be the first to ReplyRockstar views, basic service
Had been before and was excited to return but evening fell flat. Had 8 courses and the basic wine paring. Food ok and the surprise snacks were delicious, sommelier difficult to understand due to language barrier, waiter pushy - not the experience I’ve had previously. For $600 p.p inc the wine flight i expected exceptional. The view is amazing and fireworks were a bonus!!!

I visited Sydney for the first time & also to go on to the cruise to NZ with my aunt. I stayed in Sydney for almost 4 days before getting on the cruise. I managed to book three days of fine dining when I was there. Quay was one of them. I love to try new restaurants & always reserve table to eat at the best one in the city that I visited. Quay was good though not the best. Good presentation and some interesting dishes. I also went with their pairing wines and they went well with the food. Though the dinner was a bit rush because I thought the dinner was at 6:30 instead of 6:00 & I have to be out by 8:00. I still tipped them because they are doing a good job of explaining the dishes and wines. Overall experiences was pleasant.

We were greeted by the hostess with a warning to finish within 2 hours because they had a later reservation. There are nicer ways to tell a table to finish up. Certainly it should not be the first thing you say--we were not late for our 6:00pm reservation. West upstairs, with I gather is considered prime. The view of the Opera House is always blocked by a large cruse ship , but you can see the rest of the harbor. The tables do not have table cloths, nor flowers, seasonings, etc. I rate the ambiance as poor. The servers were professional but not welcoming. It is inexpensive place. The only option is to oder the tasting menu--6 to 8 courses. Plus wine. Portions are small. The food was fine--precious, in a word. It cannot compare to a restaurant like Le Bernadin, in NYC or The French Laundry in Napa, Ca.

I feel like Quay is the bucket list for Sydney restaurants-goers. Obviously expensive, but you’re not just paying for the food.. you’re paying for the name and overall experience. With the exception of the oyster butter bites (I’m sure there’s a proper name for them, lol), I loved every aspect of the experience. The waiter was incredibly knowledgeable about wine and was able to suggest a bottle that both me (sweet tooth) and my partner (wine connoisseur) could equally enjoy. Staff were all attentive and the whole experience was memorable. Can’t wait to come back and enjoy a different menu!
Be the first to ReplyAWFUL RESTAURANT!!!!!
This was the worst restaurant my husband and I have ever been to. The lady at the reception/check in was rude and obnoxious. My husband and I had a hard time finding the entrance to the restaurant so we were a few minutes late and she rudely told us we had to be finished in an hour because another reservation was right behind ours. She was clearly in a rush as she walked us to our table..and so were the servers. They were constantly hovering over our table ready to clear up course after course to keep us moving. We could not finish one sentence in our conversation before someone else appeared to ask if we were done. Clearly they are more focused on the numbers and on profits and on moving people along. The food was mediocre. All the savory courses tasted the same as if they were cooked with the same broth. And we paid $540 for our dinner for 2–a one hour rushed dinner with staff who’ve been trained to rush people in and out. AVOID THIS RESTAURANT PLEASE. Go to Aria instead or Mr. Wong’s!! Those 2 are fantastic restaurants in Sydney!!

We dine out regularly and have been fortunate enough to eat at restaurants like Vue du Monde in Melbourne, Fino in the Barossa Valley and Wickens in Dunkeld. We expected something similar in quality terms tonight, even perhaps having our expectations exceeded. Overall I would have to say we were disappointed with the food and the ambiance. We ate upstairs in the smaller dining room. The tables have minimal dressing and you only need one "loud" table to kill the atmosphere. The views are spectacular despite the Opera House side being obscured by a massive cruise ship but it is what takes place within the dining room that establishes the vibe. We opted for a six course tasting menu and ordered a bottle of champagne (price was just over double retail). The food was innovative but the portion sizes tiny. The protein was cut scalpel thin and in many cases overwhelmed by other elements of the dish. Compared to other fine dining restaurants in Australia and overseas it is the smallest portion sizes we have ever experienced. We weren't looking for the Tuesday night schnitzel special at the local club, just something memorable and value for money - we didn't get either. Wickens at the Royal Mail in Dunkeld for example offers generous tasting portions prior to the set menu and artisan bread and butter to mop up the delicious sauces - they were so delicious it would have been a crime not to do so. At Quay there was no such generosity. The staff were friendly and attentive but ambient noise levels, once all the tables were occupied, made conversation difficult and it was also hard to hear the descriptions of the dishes. So after spending nearly $600 for food for two people we left thinking about what cheese we had in the fridge for when we got home - we were still hungry. We mentioned to somebody we met at a function earlier in the week that we were looking forward to eating at Quay. "It's not for me", she said. We would have to agree, it's not for us either..

We were so looking forward to dining at this restaurant before we arrived in Sydney. The food was excellent. We had the tasting menu. The ambience and view excellent. Staff friendly. However a couple of elements needing perfection. Our wine was not the correct temperature and could not be served. Sadly our first three courses of the tasting menu was served without wine! Not something you expect from a restaurant with such a high accolade. On receiving our bill at the end of the evening a more expensive bottle of wine had been added to the bill.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing Food, Great View & Service.
My wife and I dined here hoping for a great experience to try a top rated restaurant and we were extremely unsatisfied with the food. Beyond the food, the environment & service were very pleasant which included a great view of Sydney Harbor. We did a 6 course tasting meal. The combinations of ingredients created a nauseating taste one meal after the next, from the pallet cleanser to the dessert! Some were too salty while others were too buttery and creamy. For the expensive price you pay, it should be nearly perfect! The chef seemed to focus more on the design before the taste. My wife and I may not be extreme foodies but have adventurous palates. We both struggled on keeping the food down. Plates were very small and we were still hungry! Save your money - go to a really great local boutique restaurant or Pub! Sorry team, we will not be back.

Excellent on everything! The food, service and the atmosphere. I had such a great time at the Quay restaurant. My top 3 cuisine were: •Tasmanian White Asparagus mud crab custard •Southern Rock Lobster Sea Urchin, Koshihikari rice Marigold broth • Maitake mushrooms blacklip abalone schmaltz, garum, sour koji OMG, they were so nice!!! Staff there was very friendly and helpful. I would surely visit there again. Thank you for the lovely night!

Visited for my 50th birthday and what a treat. The food was incredible. We had the eight course menu and chose our own wines. The food was like nothing I have ever tried before. A marriage of flavours that danced in your mouth. The floor staff were hospitable, friendly and not pretentious. Thank you to all of the staff at Quay as they made my 50th birthday so memorable and I can’t thank them enough.

Friendly staff, awesome food, great selection of wine with very knowledgeable sommeliers. Took the 8 course dinner. Had one of the best dining experience in Australia

great service and great food if..................it was a nursing home. Blended 0x, pureed eel, glorified meatballs and ice cream in my 6 course degustation. not one memorable dish unfortunately.
Be the first to ReplyExceeded all our expectations! Highly recommend.
Wow! We had the 6-course degustation at Quay and it exceeded all our expectations. We were a bit nervous about trying some of the dishes, but they were absolutely delicious - perfectly balanced flavours and showed the best of some very unusual ingredients. It was a lovely treat to have a few 'surprise' courses thrown in that weren't on the menu. The service was beyond incredible, everyone was so attentive and gave us lots of info about the food and drinks on offer. The atmosphere was relaxed, easy to have a conversation and stunning views over the Harbour Bridge (even with a cruise ship in port blocking the Opera House view). I cannot wait to go back some day and would highly recommend this for a special occasion.

This was our fourth visit to Quay and we were super excited about it having had at least two bookings cancelled during Covid and our trip up from Melbourne for the NYE event cancelled on the day because of staff shortages. Based on our past experiences we were filled with anticipation. Unfortunately it really wasn't as good as it used to be, or at least as we remembered. Don't get me wrong, the food is delicious. Nothing was poor. But not enough was amazing. And when you pay $1000+ it needs to be amazing. The raw scallops stood out with the smokey cream being a highlight. But the young peas were bland and the white coral dessert is visually spectacular but average on the palate. In some ways the service was spot on (Luke you are great) but there were misses. Our desserts arrived before the dessert wine and I was counselled to eat up whilst the glass remained empty (I cancelled the order). What one waiter told us was a bonus glass of wine another revealed as a mistake. This all sounds fussy but five star prices mean one expecslts five star service. Finally it's a shame that 8 and 10 course menus have now been condensed to 6. We left hungry and got fast food on the way home. On the positive side, it means next trip to Sydney we will try something new.

Shared a meal with friends on the upper floor. Definitely a highlight up there and the lights and views of Sydney, compliment the food, wine and atmosphere. You know the chef has it right when you are enjoying foods such as eels and when all the meals are flavoured just right.

This is a lovely spot to have a restaurant and the staff were great. We opted for the 6 courses and it came at a relaxed pace so you could enjoy the ambience. We liked our food and can appreciate the effort that it took to prepare a lot of the dishes, though I have to say that there was no standout dish that caught my tastebuds.

We came two months ago . The view, the atmosphere, the service, the food...Everything was absolutely perfect!
We wish you luck during this harsh period!
Looking forward to coming back
sublime and priced accordingly
Quay has everything for going for it. Extraordinary position with the Harbour Bridge on one side and the Opera House on the other. The space is all glass windows. The service is professional but friendly. The wine list is as you'd expect. And then there's the food. Two choices $240 for six courses or $290 for eight . Just superb.

I have lived in Sydney all of my 62 years and have only just got around to eating here.
It was a special occasion ( birthday) and at these prices for most of us our visits will of necessity be restricted to special occasions.
Having said that , I can’t think of any restaurant I have been to in Australia or overseas that beats this.
The food is truly inventive and there was not a single course of the 6 course degustation which did not hit the mark.
The matching sommelier wine pairings was perfect and the service was spot on , efficient and warm but not overbearing.
The view takes your breath away , even if you are a long term Sydneysider.
There is a reason this restaurant consistently gets 3 chefs hats in the Good Food Guide and regularly appears in lists of the worlds best restaurants.
Romantic dining experience
I’ve always wanted to try the Quay because of all the great things I’ve heard about it and it did not disappoint. It’s definitely worth trying at least once. The service is impeccable, efficient and welcoming. They very much leave you to enjoy your meal in peace and respect your space. They’re attentive, ensure your table is cleared after a meal and pace the next dish shortly after to fully savour the taste.
The famous Snow Egg is even more delicious than it looks, it’s so creamy and the texture is unlike any dessert I’ve had before. The caramel and chocolate undertone in the Moo dessert was a pleasant surprise and just as great as the Snow Egg. The distinct flavour in the pig jowl and bone marrow noodles was simply a delight, the intense flavour, softness and delicacy was noticeable from the first bite.
My only criticisms would be that the white coral dish was a little odd, I felt the flowers had a strange taste and did not compliment the seafood despite the lovely presentation. In terms of views, other harbour side restaurants do have better seating and the Quay feels a little tightly packed in terms of how close the tables are to one another.
