Tearing up a bit while while scrolling through my pictures
Tearing up a bit while while scrolling through my pictures and seeing all my memories from Prune. . There is a short list of places special to me in NYC: ApothekeBuvettebut Prune has my heart--I remember meeting a dear friend for dinne there for the first time in 2001. From then I made this place my Thursday, blood and sand day. I miss you guys!! Harve at the corner having his dessert.

I am so saddened to learn Prune has closed, and hoping they change their mind and reopen! We came here in April 2019, visiting from San Francisco. I am a native New Yorker and was so happy to find this intimate, personal, unique and beautiful restaurant. The food was incredible, and we made some new friends sitting next to us.We planned to return every year. We skipped last year due to Covid, but are just now feeling safe enough to return. The first thing I did was check the website, hoping they survived these tough months. This was a one of a kind, local experience.

This was my happy place; it was first meal out when I moved to NYC 8 years ago, and I've been back probably over 100 times since. The food is fantastic, and it has such a vibrant and warm atmosphere. I have so many wonderful memories here. When my friends and I all moved to NYC after college, we used to meet here on Sunday mornings to debrief the week/weekend. Someone would usually have a new guy/girl with them that they picked up the night before. Some of those people are now married or soon to be. We also went to Prune to mourn (and drown) our sorrows. We nursed a few deaths and heartbreaks here.I never write restaurant review, but I'm writing my first in hopes that maybe, if the owner sees how loved Prune is, she will reopen Prune. At least give us one more summer of bloody Marias and a chance to say goodbye!
Be the first to ReplyPrune was wonderful.
I'm hoping Gabrielle is hanging in there. If Prune reopens, I'll be back.
Be the first to ReplyThis is an all-time favourite for me and my family.
Whenever there is a visitor to town, their first request is to eat at Prune. The wait can be long but well worth it for the assortment of bloody mary options. I've had about every option on the menu and all are delicious and consistent.
Be the first to ReplyThis place will be a visit again when I return to NY.
Worth a visit for sure. The food is good and is worth the trip.
Be the first to ReplyThe remoulade sauce with oyster omelette and the Famed
The remoulade sauce with oyster omelette and the Famed Dutch baby is what finally placated next after I ended up here one brunch day, looking for the perfect baked pancake. Cafe Luluc was on my mind all week but I didn't have a car to journey deep into Brooklyn . Manhattan was going to have to deliver and After searching the city's brunch seen far and wide, prune came as a lifesaver. Chef Gabrielle Hamilton is a genius wrapped into a food goddess. The icing on top of that wonderful meal with a little licorice puppy that came at the end with your check to bid adieu. Her creativity, decor and perfect execution of unique and novel French inspired dishes made the cozy space seem vast and welcoming. The vintage distressed mirrors lining the walls, the classic east village speakeasy vibe of bohemian, and the chic brunch goers all came together in a tapestry of the perfect New York City brunch. The restaurant is closed today after 20 years but it lives on in the hearts of those who ever ate here.
Be the first to ReplySeriously everything we ate was so delicious.
Duck liver soup was so simple and decadent, the broth was so rich and light brussel sprout leaves added the perfect veggie balance. The leeks were probably our favorite, so good we were all fighting over the last bite. Ghost of Mary was basically a clarified martini style bloody Mary was so delicious and the tomato stuffed olive in it was a welcome treasure. So glad we made this stop! Cute little spot as well
Be the first to ReplyThis is one of the most overpriced restaurants in New York.
The cocktails were great but food & wine are out of control with the pricing. Atmosphere is nothing to write home about either. I would've thought it was a decent meal until the check came. So many other great spots to drop a ton of money in Manhattan!
Be the first to ReplyThere are few spots that East Village and Lower East Side
There are few spots that East Village and Lower East Side locals are always willing to hit. Prune is exactly that. You will not be let down: breakfast, lunch, brunch, or dinner. It's reasonably priced and every dish I've had (I've eaten there ~15x) has been absolutely on point. The duck and lentils for dinner is my fav.My only critique is that the dinner menu has changed a few times which has left me on my toes (no more jerk chicken!?) and the 90s lesbian anthems playlist doesn't always do it for me, but Whitney Houston frequently saves the day. They don't take reservations (AFAIK) for brunch but you can make one for dinner. Trying your chances at a walk-in will most likely leave you waiting outside, and there's definitely no room at the bar. Can't go wrong with Prune -- both in terms of palette and $$. Unless you're the lucky few with a reservation, bring a coat bc you'll most likely become familiar with that day's forecast while you wait.
