I gotta give this place 5-stars. I am not Chinese so can't comment on whether this is authentic Cantonese dishes - but they're from HK so I'll take their word for it! The portions here are large - we ordered the pepper steak (very very... like very tender), tofu mushrooms with Chinese peapods (amazing and almost my favorite), salt and pepper fish (crispy fried and not fishy), and scallops with noodles (amazing and my favorite). It was way more than enough and we took the rest to go. The food comes out pretty fast and I like that there are plenty of accommodations for large groups and tables for two. Last piece of advice and perhaps most important - validate parking in the lot nearby off of Wentworth. Pretty much all the stores validate including Phoenix and it's just $2!
Be the first to ReplyBelow average dim sum for above average price.
Price $32 | Rating 6/10 5 people at 11:30 with no wait. Seated in a spacious table and given the usual sauces, tea, and menu. Their selection was bigger than normal with things like duck dumplings and corn shrimp dumplings. The quality was disappointing. The har gow and crepes were over steamed and stuck together. The scallion pancake was more a bao and not crispy but the taste was still good. The veggies were fine and everything else was okay. Nothing special stood out. Paid in cash for discount and cost was 32 so for not being 100% full I was a bit let down. I would recommend other places but it wasn't terrible in case your friends insist.
Be the first to ReplyChicago should be very proud of its Chinatown.
It rivals San Francisco's and New York's, and that's saying a tidy sum. On this 60° Sunday night, in Chicago in February, Chinatown was so jammed packed and congested you would think they were giving away free dinners! Wow was this district buzzing. The four of us chose The Phoenix restaurant as our dinner spot only for the mere fact, we've been everywhere else in Chinatown and we wanted to try something new. So we parked three blocks away (I told you it was busy here) arrived at The Phoenix and walked up two flights of stairs to this humongous room with more tables and chairs than most auditoriums. Their menu had some really good looking items, so we ventured into their selections and came out with: * Garlic Cucumber warm salad that was really good * Singapore Rice Noodles which was truly delicious * Saute Squid in an XO sauce that was as far as I was concerned was the star of the show * Spicy Szechuan Chicken with enough heat to get your attention. We all loved this dish * Pea Sprouts which had the perfect crunch - excellent * A slew of Ting Tao beer and a bottle of Hakushika Rice wine The ambiance here at the Phoenix Restaurant, looked and felt like I was in Hong Kong. The smell, atmosphere and mood this restaurant was throwing off took me to all of the fond memories of that city I loved so much. This alone will bring me back here many more times. There were a few "Hiccups" that happened (like it took 30 minutes to wrestle me up some hot mustard) but all and all I really liked The Phoenix Restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyBeen to Phoenix about 50 times in my life.
It used to be the flagship restaurant in Chinatown. It's been a while since I last visited. Based upon my Sunday's visit for dinner, it has gone down a bit. The food is solid, the service is OK, and the washroom is bad. The Peking duck was very good, the salt & pepper squid & shrimp was good. The boiled chicken was just OK. Hope for some improvements next time.
Be the first to ReplyHad lunch here.
Parking is on the street right across from the restaurant. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor of the building. It is a very authentic restaurant. We ordered several appetizer-sized dishes and enjoyed everything we ate. I'd definitely go back again.

Let me start with walking into this restaurant was just like going to a place in Zhuhai. It was amazing. Large tables for big groups to come together and share some wonderful Dim-Sum and 100% authentic Chinese food. Everything was just perfect and service was fast and friendly. It was the perfect stop during my visit to Chicago. I highly recommend if you looking for a place that has room for many people.
Be the first to ReplyGood service for Saturday dim sum at 11am.
Love that they came around with ribs for us to choose from. I enjoyed everything but nothing was a stand out to me. Very seafood forward as expected. Great view out of the window from our table.
Be the first to ReplyLove this place.
My dear friend, and I go here couple of times a year. We stay for several hours, enjoying the different tastes of dim sum. Staff is extremely friendly and accommodating. The place is very clean and staff are right on task of assisting customers. Host/Hostess are extremely welcoming. The ambience looks like a banquet hall and its on the 2nd floor. It's very comfortable. I love the tea they give you also also in a tea pot to share. All the food is tasty and hot.

The phoenix restaurant is a classic Chinese restaurant in Chinatown. This is where you want to go for dim sum, not one of the Americanized places that charges $14 for a pot of tea. Dim Sum is good and relatively cheap. We went when there was a 20% off sale on dim sum and our bill for 14 trays of dim sum was about $80, can't beat it. I can't remember if phoenix is cash only, we paid cash when we went there.

I recently had the grand pleasure of eating at Phoenix Restaurant. We had a group of 20 people and ordered almost everything on the menu. My favorites where the pork baos and the shrimp dumplings. I would get those again

We had dim sum, tea and plum wine. Very delicious! Nice place inside. They close for a few hours between lunch and dinner.

After craving dim sum for too long we showed up on a Sunday morning and were seated immediately. This place had a lot to live up to and my goodness it did!! The shrimp and corn shumai was delicious and sweet. The potstickers were literally the best I've ever had.
Be the first to ReplyLocated on the street directly across the main Chinatown
Located on the street directly across the main Chinatown square, Phoenix is a popular spot-- expect a wait especially for weekend dimsum, which is what my friends and I came for. The interior is large, spacious, and decorated simply. Our orders came out pretty fast and the servers were kind. They were attentive in refilling our tea kettles, but never refilled our waters unfortunately. I felt that while all the dimsum dishes were good, the menu selection was a little limited in terms of meats and vegetables, compared to other dim sum places I've tried in the area. There didn't seem to be as many meat options and there were basically no vegetable options besides a stuffed eggplant dish, which wasn't that good in my opinion. Despite that, they made all the other dishes really well--from custard buns to egg tarts (and taro egg tarts) to shumai to crepes. Everything tasted super fresh. We ordered a lot of things (most of them are pictured), but a couple of the standout ones were:- Taro Egg Tarts: delicious and unique; I've never seen this offered at any other dimsum spot I've been to and I lowkey liked it even more than the traditional egg tart. -Steamed Malay Sponge Cake: this is also a pretty unique menu item that I don't commonly see at other dimsum spots, and it was really good, spongey, and flavorful!- Chicken Feet with Homemade Sauce: A dimsum staple, the homemade sauce addition was really good.- Short ribs with pepper: Tasty and well marinated, nicely textured meat. - Beef crepes: I normally don't love crepes, but the beef crepes here were really good in my opinon. It was also a bit more expensive than the other dimsum spots in Chinatown that we've been to--for our group of 10, it came out to $27 per person.
Be the first to ReplyI came for lunch on a Sunday with 9 friends to celebrate
I came for lunch on a Sunday with 9 friends to celebrate Chinese New Year. The restaurant was packed when we arrived and were seated without too much of a wait. We received a paper menu with images on it to mark our order. The servers were quick to come over and get our drinks. Food was very reminiscent of my time living in China and I found many of my favorites on the menu. Overall, it was of the quality I expected and was an authentic meal that I previously had in China, not our Americanized Chinese food. It was my first time in Chinatown and I was generally pleased with our dining experience. For ~$30 per person, we were able to have a huge meal that left us all stuffed.
Be the first to ReplyI've been wanting to come here for a long time.
Parking can be an issue, but there is the $2 lot a block down. A little confusing, when you enter you have to go upstairs to the 2nd floor and the door has a different name on it. Once inside, I was greeted, but it was absolutely freezing inside! Maybe 55-60 degrees, brrr . It was only ten degrees outside as a side note. I'm tough and I was hungry so it was not going to detour me!!. The food is very pricey, but the portions are much bigger than those in the area, so it off sets it. Very tasty and hot! Sadly the food didn't stay hot very long and I had to eat with my jacket on. Thankfully the service was prompt and attentive so I didn't have to freeze my butt off! The decor and colors are very vibrant and lovely! I would try this place again but I think I'll wait until springtime-))
Be the first to ReplyWe enjoyed having dim sum at Phoenix.
All of the dishes tasted great. The service was efficient. Thank you!
Be the first to ReplyPhoenix Restaurant gives a very close depiction of
Phoenix Restaurant gives a very close depiction of authentic dim sum in Chicago. The food and the traditional atmosphere inside the restaurant will surely leave you feeling transported to China. I had came here and tried a variety of options, and I was very satisfied with each bite. I personally had received great service from the staff here. There is a restaurant in Chicago that I think delivers a better experience, but Phoenix is worth a try if you are considering it.
Be the first to ReplySo far, this is the closest restaurant to an authentic dim
So far, this is the closest restaurant to an authentic dim sum experience (missing the carts). Like most "authentic" Chinese restaurants, the vibe is going to feel pretty tacky (and usually red) and pretty basic. Coming in here gave me flashbacks to when I used to live in nyc's Chinatown. There's a very traditional feel here so i wouldn't be surprised if I saw a Chinese wedding take place here one day. However, the food was pretty decent (which is usually the typically the focus). There wasn't any dim sum carts which felt missing from the nostalgia the rest of the place brings. However, it was different from most of the other dim sum places. Just typical and seemed like your cookie cutter dim sum type of place. At least some of the choices were unique so I'll definitely come back when I'm feeling a bit more adventurous.
Be the first to ReplyWell, we have not been in China town since the covid.
This is our first time to revisit them and it's pretty typical dim sum place compare with Ming Hing. The service was faster and nicer compare with other restaurants. We will come back next time.
Be the first to ReplyFirst time here.
This place was suggested by a friend. Food was good, but I wished they had more dim sum selections. Service and food delivery was slow. If you're not in a rush, I recommend this place.
Be the first to ReplyOrdered 2Shumai when I came home and ate it, I found steel
Ordered 2Shumai when I came home and ate it, I found steel in my Shumai then I contact the restaurant immediately. At first, the old guy said this Shumai is homemade then I told him the story but he said he doesn't understand and no one can speak English around there. Somehow, I speak with someone who said he is the manager but can't solve a problem and has no reaction at all.

Dim sum spot in Chinatown! This is a very authentic looking place with lots of offerings. If you are a regular dim sum eater and you feel like the menu is limited, chances are you for the tourist menu! We were able to ask the waiter for those things we would normally have! Overall, great!
Be the first to ReplyWe ate here today and they were pretty busy so pretty
We ate here today and they were pretty busy so pretty excited to try the dim sum and to my disappointment one of them had a bug. We sent it right back but the damage was done. Lost my appetite.
