Hole in the wall mom and pop shops are the ones that serve
Hole in the wall mom and pop shops are the ones that serve the best food. We went to the location on the second floor on a Saturday night and was seated immediately. The open kitchen filled the restaurant brought a warmth that you were eating at someone's home. The momo was the star of the meal. It was juicy and piping hot as we saw the women folding them in the kitchen and steaming them immediately. 10/10The hand pulled noodles has good texture but we found the soup rather bland. The hot sauce brought it to life. 8/10The fried noodles were spicy but not overwhelming. It was full of flavor. 9/10Tripe was spicy but we were provided with lots of water so nothing we couldn't handle. Had great texture as well. 9/10The restaurant didn't have a lot of seats but they were busy all night both dining in and with takeout/delivery orders. Would definitely be back!!

Everything was delicious, and the food didn't take long to come, even when the place was bustling. I would say that my favorite dish was the potatoes momo.PS: The front store photos are not updated. This restaurant is now on a second floor. Look up and follow the signs they placed to guide you.
Be the first to ReplyThe food here is amazing & spicy and really just perfect.
I have been here 3 in the last six months and I'm obsessed.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible customer service.
We had to wait for 25mins to get their attention and ask them for every essential thing, e.g., water, menu, sauce etc. And the food has been worst than before.

I have the good misfortune of running into this Tibetan restaurant.. it was a pleasant surprise for me. The food is relatively mild, by Thai or Szechuan standards. I ordered a noodle appetizer, which is too salty, but an meat ball dumplings soup, excellent in flavors and good vegetable and broth. But, the best dish is the spicy beef tongue slices, cooked to perfection, tender but with good textures, just right amount of spices. It only thing is that their waitresses were a bit too unattending, which could improve over time. I would go back again..

Authentic Tibetan food spot that is worth the rave! Got the beef momos, curry rice, and fried noodles. They were all great although I was personally not a huge fan of the beef filling, the flavor was quite strong. Loved the chicken curry broth that came with the rice dish which was so flavorful! The fried noodles were solid as well.
Be the first to ReplyWhat can I say this place in the ICON.
The LEGENDARY. Beautiful Tibetan food (FREE TIBET FREE UYGHURS). Best momos, thenthuk, everything. I come here about once a week and they never miss.
Be the first to ReplyFinally tried their fried and steamed beef dumplings.
I've seen many people rave about how good they are, but I wasn't too impressed. Maybe it's just my taste, but I'm not the biggest fan. The steamed were better than the fried. The first few I ate tasted good, but you can't eat more than a couple. The taste gets old quickly. The quantity is fantastic though for the price and they are definitely fresh.
Be the first to ReplyThis was a TikTok recommendation and it was so delicious.
Everything was fresh and made to order. Can we also talk about how inexpensive it is??? We went as a group of 3 and ate so much food we were shocked at the bill! This was a great find!!!
Be the first to ReplyThe best cucumber salad and momos.
The momos are huge. You can order them fried or steamed, both are great.

This place used to be good, but I am not coming back except probably for the ground floor location one. The waiter doesn't have any customer service skills but the food is still good. The previous waiters who were two girls provided excellent service which was on time and was very nice.
Be the first to ReplyI have been to Phayul a number of times.
There are two locations, but I have only been to the one in the second floor location. The space is small, with a handful of tables. The kitchen area takes up half of the space, so you can watch the staff preparing the food. Service is always good.I have tried the following dishes:Steamed Alu Momo (5/5): Amazing momo. Filled with potato. Just an excellent choice.Fried Alu Momo (3/5): The fried version of the alu momo was fine. It was nowhere near as good as the steamed version. Definitely opt for the steamed version.Vegetable Lhasa Fried Noodle (4/5): These noodles are tasty. They are a little oily, but full of flavor. Great to share.Vegetable Thenthuk (3/5): Vegetable noodle soup with hand pulled noodles. The noodles were really tasty, but the broth was a little on the bland side. Also difficult to share.Shoko Sil SIl Ngoe Ma (4/5): Shredded potato with sauteed green pepper. Really tasty, with a little spice. I like this dish a lot to share.I've also had the butter tea, which is nice, but incredibly rich, and definitely not my taste.I really like Phayul. I think it's definitely worth a trip.

Ordered phayul for lunch and got to try momos for the first time. They were amazing, juicy, rich and very filling. Will very much be ordering from here again, cannot wait to try again!

I always love coming here! I wasn't the biggest fan of the butter tea, but the beef momos and spicy stir fried noodles are so delicious! Cash only!

Honestly it's great momos for a fair price, and in a part of the city which is saturated with Tibetan and Nepali restaurants, Phayul still managed to be very good and hold its weight well. If you can go to the original location, it'll be worth it over the second.

I'd like to preface this by saying, my husband has never picked a good restaurant until he found Phayul lol After extensive research on his end, he bumped into an article reviewing this restaurant and peaked his interest. It took a lot of convincing to get me to agree with him, given his previous track record, but I gave in. And I'm so glad I did! We only ordered takeout from this establishment, and haven't dined in yet, but basically my husband found this place last week, and we've already ordered from them 4 times! We are addicted. We love their beef momos. It reminds me of a Shanghainese soup dumpling, but better! The flavor in the beef cannot be beat. I've never had momos before, but Phayul has set the bar for me, and that threshold is now very high. We also ordered their cucumber salad, which is very refreshing, but super spicy. We love their Tsak Sha La Kor soup. It's made with beef bone, radish and Tibetan spices. It is to die for, and perfect for the cold weather. I literally can't get enough of this soup, that I tell my husband to order 2, because I'm not sharing lol All in all, the food is great, and I'm sad I have been missing out on momos until very recently!

I was excited to try this place after seeing it on social media. The skins of the beef momos were really hard but the filling was not bad. We ordered two different noodle soups thinking the broth was different but it's the same with different types of noodles and protein. The broth was made with mountain herbs, which was too bland for my taste.
Be the first to ReplyMan, I had never had Tibetan dumplings until my friend
Man, I had never had Tibetan dumplings until my friend asked me to put this on our Jackson Heights food crawl. I will definitely have to add this to the list of places to come back to.This was just back in late September, and there was still outdoor dining available. We went for outdoors bc honestly, natural light is better for photos haha. The things we got to share included:Stir fried lo mein noodles:PROS:- huge quantity, definitely shareable- good flavor, not overly salty- noodles were not overcooked and were not stuck togetherCONS:- none. Great lo mein!Momo dumplings (beef), steamed:PROS:- JUICY. So much so that the juice squirted out.- very good flavor, NOT overly salty with seasoning. This is key.- very filling, more so than with soup dumplings which have a much thinner skin.CONS:- filling for a food tour. We were almost completely full after the momos and the lo mein (and this was just the first stop of our food crawl!)Butter tea: I got this for myself because I really wanted to try it.PROS:- not oily surprisingly- not unhealthy tasting either- light buttery flavorCONS:- I don't know if I could drink this on the daily. You'd have to really like the flavor of liquid butter to enjoy this drink but it's definitely worth trying!Would I come here again? yes. definitely. We also came on the off hour (around 130p) so there were plenty of seats. Service was also great. There weren't too many people seated outside, probably because it was warm that day and there was a good amount of sunlight coming in through the outdoor seating area.
Be the first to ReplyThis place hits all the homey flavors I miss.
My go-to for Tibetan food. I keep coming back for the Momos, and the gyuma. Recently tried their dry chow mein and loved that too.

One on my first stops on a restaurant hopping trip with my friend trying different cuisines. This is my go to spot everytime I visit JFK to pick up or drop off a family member. We just made it in nick of time to pick up our Jhasa Khatsa (chicken chili). This is a Tibetan dish and make sure you ask them to spice it up (if youlike yours spicy), they do make it spicy but punched with a lot of flavor. This is one of the best dishes I have had. While Im seated at the restaurant people hear me speaking in my native language and I always bump into people from my hometown, Bangalore. The place is crammed and lacks ambience but if you are in for some good food, just forget the ambience and enjoy the food that burns your tongue. My brother tried a pork dish from my prior visit and enjoyed his dish too.
