5 starsI came here for an event on a Monday night. We were seated in a private room. The room was well decorated and cozy. Service was a bit slow but that may just have been because they only had one waiter taking our orders and assisting us. Our server was very efficient though and got us what we wanted to us right away. Our dinner started with family style of various appetizers: --TRIO OF DIPS: Three dips that were served along side some pita chips (tasted like Stacy's haha). The dips were nice, I enjoyed the smoked eggplant and garlic yogurt the most. --GRILLED ARTICHOKE: Not my favorite dish. It tasted like they used pickled artichoke. I feel that the flavor would have been better if it used fresh artichoke instead.--PORTUGUESE FRIED CALAMARI: Nicely fried calamari. Just wish it came with dipping sauce instead of just having the sauce sparingly drizzled over the calamari. --VILLAGE SALAD: Really nice assortment of veggies with a healthy serving of feta on top. Was light and a nice starter. As for my entree, I chose the CHICKEN "SHASHLIK." The meal came with so much chicken. The chicken was nice, tender, and well flavored. It was laid on top of the rice which was my favorite part of my meal. The rice was well cooked and perfectly flavorful. I was just really disappointed there was only a tiny scoop of rice though. They really should have increased the amount of rice they put on the plate especially for an entree. Additionally, there was also a side of arugula drenched in olive oil and some vinegar which was not good. As for dessert, we got some pieces of PISTACHIO BAKLAVA. The baklava was a nice flavor with a healthy amount of chopped pistachio in between the layers. I also love a bit of sweeter baklava but these were way too sweet. They were absolutely drenched in syrup. Finally, they had the stickiest bathroom I have ever been in. I felt dirty just walking around in the bathroom. Haha. All in all, a pretty average experience but with some surprising elements.

Service was appalling from the time we got there. A very dour older woman asked if we had a reservation. The place was practically empty at 11.50 am. When I said we did not, she scowled, grabbed a couple of menus & stuck us at a corner table, where plastic planters were infringing on our already severely limited space. Not the greatest ambiance. This in itself would have been enough reason never to go back, but shortly after we got there two Gentlemen arrived & were told to "sit wherever you like". What a horribly unwelcoming experience for my husband and myself visiting from Colorado. I give them 2 stars for the scrumpy shrimp & mouth watering baklava. Unfortunately that would not entice me to go back. Do yourself a favor & go somewhere else.
Be the first to ReplyI really liked the meal and overall experience here.
Food was really good. Service was great. Waitress was friendly and on point. I ordered a salad with lamb and it was fresh and flavorful. Also ordered the octopus starter and that was insane. Cooked perfectly, a good size, and the chick peas made it more filling. I would go back again...
Be the first to ReplyI visited Pera earlier last year during restaurant week
I visited Pera earlier last year during restaurant week with my mom and sister. The service and ambiance were great. Our waitress was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. The food portions were actually not bad given that it was restaurant week. It was $39 per person for a 3 course meal not including tax, tip or drinks. We decided to get a mix of everything so that we could taste the whole menu. From the appetizers my favs were definitely the calamari and the dips. The calamari does have a bit of kick to it so keep that in mind! The pita chips that came with the dip were so crunchy and fresh. The maroul salad was good although it felt kind of underwhelming so I wouldn't get it again. For entrees - I had the lamb, my sister had the salmon and my mom had the chicken. The lamb was very flavorful but had a kick to it as well. My sister didn't enjoy the salmon as much; it was a little lacking in flavor but I thought it was perfect. The risotto however was not my fav. I found it to be a little bit too mushy. The chicken with fries was definitely the favorite of the 3. As for dessert both the Baklava and rice pudding were delicious and not too over-filling. I'm a huge fan of Mediterranean food and I think Pera is a great choice.
Be the first to ReplyNew Year's Eve disaster.
Understaffed? Unprepared? 4 hours for dinner, with nothing for the first hour. Nothing. And there's no bread to help the hunger. Every main dish was barely edible. Dessert which was supposed to be a chocolate soufflé - was not. Hot chocolate soup - a fitting end to a painfully slow poor meal. Add of course it was a high set price for that. Went as they had live music, which was nice but where they put the band, couldn't be seen. They aren't setup for entertainment.

The best baklava in town!I don't like them crunchy and Pera had it done exactly the way I like it. It was freshly made and full of pistachioSteak frites was delicious (shashlik) as well. Tender, juicy with well done french fries. Calamari with sujuck and pickles was very different and delicious. The calamari itself was ok. The dish was very good. Service was wonderful minus the host at the door lacking a smile and warm welcome. -.5The open kitchen had some ventilation problem when it got very busy at Saturday night. That's the other .5 I took away. Happy to see Pera is still serving great food.

Great experience! We had the lamb chops, steak frites and chicken dishes. Olive cake was the best I'd ever tasted!
Be the first to ReplyTook a photo of this place and planned to go w/ friends
Took a photo of this place and planned to go w/ friends because of the dark, classy vibe inside and the happy hour price - $20 for 2 small dishes and 1 cocktail or wine. The place makes you feel like you should be paying triple of that and the fact that it's Mediterranean is a +++ for me; so chalked it up to maybe being too good to be true and waited for the opportunity to go.Finally went - yes, it was to good to be true due to the fact that you could only take advantage of happy hour if you were sitting at the bar, and they told us there was no room at the bar despite the fact that I made a reservation for this restaurant. For next time, I'll probably try to see if I can call beforehand and see if I can reserve a bar seat specifically. This is the only reason I'm giving it 4 stars. Otherwise it would easily be a 5.Other than that though, everything was spot on - the way the restaurant looked and felt inside, the food, and the drinks. I got an appetizer platter that is basically a sample of all the appetizers they had; it was 9 small samples which was more than enough food for me and tasted great. Presentation of food was great too; drinks were a good variety. I can't imagine getting 2 of these appetizers and a drink for only $20; I'd literally be taking one home and have a free meal.Anyways, if you can manage to get a bar seat for happy hour go!

The food was delicious and our server was wonderful. The hostess, on the other hand, seemed annoyed that we even greeted her when we entered the restaurant. I was taken aback by her behavior toward us.

Be the first to ReplyFood was satisfactory.
Not exceptional but not bad. We got the Phyllo cheese cigars and the dip trio to start with. Phyllo rolls were okay. Loved the eggplant dip but he muhmarra and hummus creased to amaze us. I got he gnocchi ( which was a little weird to have that on a middle eastern menu). It was tasty but too heavy and creamy. Others tried the lamb adana, the eggplant, sirloin steak and the salmon. The steak was supposedly amazing. Being a vegetarian I can't vouch for it but I trust the palette of the eater. Honestly liked this place better than ilili.
Be the first to ReplyI booked outdoor seating for a business lunch and had
I booked outdoor seating for a business lunch and had called the restaurant in advance to confirm that the outdoor dining setup was something my group would be comfortable with - there are several of us that are more cautious about covid than others (for various health reasons), looking for open-air dining, not an enclosed tent. When I called, I was told that the outdoor setup was open on one side for air flow. When we arrived, this was not the case - it was fully enclosed with plastic on all sides, except for a small doorway. After we ordered, I asked the waitress if they could roll up the plastic on one side to let air flow in (there were ties hanging down so it was clear that this was a possibility) - she said she would ask the manager and then just didn't come back until we were done with our meal. Having said that, my colleagues did enjoy the food very much, in spite of some being very uncomfortable. I just wish the staff had been more transparent about the setup and more responsive when we asked for them to make the adjustment. It was a 70 degree day today - there was no reason they couldn't have opened it up. If not for the lack of transparency and the ignored request around the outdoor dining setup, I would have given a much higher rating.

After seeing a Broadway show, my daughter & I walked into Pera for apps&drinks before taking the train back home. The bartender, who's name I didn't get,is tending bar, seating the walk-ins,the whole package. We sat at the bar & ordered lavender Mojitos,&that was absolute perfection. Our apps...to die for..grilled artichoke beautifully plated, with green pea puree, like what? Sooooo good. Then the smoked eggplant with garlic yogurt served with pita chips, if I wasn't in a nice place I would've licked both plates. Our 2nd drink was a mild jalapeño margarita, that our lovely bartender made & let us taste to wow us, AND IT WORKED.I could've easily sat there with my kid for another hour, it was so cozy & pretty inside. A mediterranean gem, you won't be sorry

Pera was a magnificent host for our group of 20 during a work trip in November. Because I am based in Chicago, I worried whether Pera's team and I could coordinate effectively for a company dinner 100% virtually before I arrived in New York City. Well, let me tell you -- not only was it easy, but the team was a pleasure to work with. I was able to create a personalized menu, have printed menus on each place setting for our team the day of with our company name and sign the contract all over email. The team was amazingly responsive and the cost per person was a great value, with the option to add bottomless red and white wine per person at a great value as well. When we arrived, the staff was excellent, taking our orders for our main entrees and bringing out appetizers for all. Each and every dish was thoughtful and flavorful and the wine flowing all night. The atmosphere was formal and inviting with white tablecloths and the open kitchen warming the restaurant with delicious smells.Payment and tip was arranged beforehand with the team and could not have been easier. I assure you that if you're in the area or looking for the perfect spot for your large team dinner Pera is a must!
Be the first to ReplySolid, if uninspiring spot, for dinner.
Food is fine, service was good, and good ambiance. Can't go wrong coming here, but wouldn't expect to be wowed by the food. Food itself was fine. I got the signature Lamb adana and without the hummus that came with our appetizers, it was definitely dry. The dark chocolate soufflé was pretty incredible. Came here with a large party and the atmosphere was great. Typical midtown, corporate vibe, but again, really can't go wrong. Service was good.

Was just there 11/26/21 enjoying the food and ambience but was interrupted by not one but two cockroaches crawling across my seat. It left me crawly and I had to leave. They still made me pay for a portion of the bill and as we were leaving they were resetting the spot in which we sat.

Food was good, I like the grilled octopus and calamari specifically. Just pricey so that was what prevented the higher rating.

Pera is a classic impressive NYC restaurant, perfect for large groups and birthdays. The staff were very helpful and patient with our large group! We ordered cocktails followed by red wine. Ordered all the cocktails on the menu and you cannot go wrong with any of them! Not too sweet or fruity - rather a perfect balance of flavors. We ordered some spreads and octopus to start. I ordered the chicken kebab with a side of salad, very delicately served and full of flavor, will be back!!
Be the first to ReplySuch a pretty place.
Wanted a place near Grand Central and chose to come here. What a great decision. Food is delicious. Prices are reasonable for the area. Portions are good. Service is more than helpful. We loved the Lamb Adana sandwiches. Can't wait to go back.

We had made reservations for a table of 6 and this review is specifically for NYC Restaurant Week (2021).We got outside seating on a Friday evening for 6:30 pm on a relatively warm day. We arrived on time and were seated right away. The place was empty inside at that time and outdoor seating was slightly busy with 2 other tables occupied. We ordered a few cocktails and some beer on tap and it took longer for us to get our drinks to us, including repeat orders for beers, which our waitress forgot to put it.We ordered from the $39 per person NYC Restaurant Week menu, which included Assorted Dips Platter, Portuguese Calamari, Hand Rolled Grape Leaves, and a Maroul Salad. The Grape Leaves and Maroul Salad were absolutely delicious and were the best appetizers on the table. For mains, we got Lamb Adana, Organic Beef Burger, and Black Pepper Ricotta Gnocchi. We all cleaned out our plates, and I can confirm that the Gnocchi was absolutely filing and delicious! Our waitress was not attentive at all, but service other than that was absolutely top notch... so giving a 20% gratuity at end did suck a little bit! We might visit again for lunch or dinner!

Showed up a bit late to a 9pm reservation (after the kitchen normally closes) and was happy to be accommodated. We came to take advantage of NYC Restaurant Week and were not disappointed by the $39 pre fixe meal.
