The service was awful! Let's start there, we had to ask for silverware, ask for ketchup, hell ask for everything. The waiter wasn't really friendly, just blah. Now on to the food, I've definitely had better. It's just ok! It's not terrible, but it's ok. We had shrimp and grits, and catfish poboy. Nothing to come back for, we also had fried Green tomatoes and beignets. Just ok, again I definitely have had better.
Be the first to ReplyOkay the negative 1st.
The mac and cheese recipe needs to grow-up. It looks and tastes like the boxed stuff, only runny. Now for the good stuff...the catfish, collard greens and cornbread were fabulous! I've had it twice and I so enjoy those dishes. Just delicious!

I ordered the jambalaya and banana bread for takeout and the banana bread was ok but the jambalaya was the nastiest jambalaya I've ever had. No flavor.
Be the first to ReplyThe food is good, consistent, and reasonably priced.
The menu never changes so that's a bit odd. And sometimes the service is just ok. Sitting at the bar is always good... Last night our server was so "over it" and clearly didn't care much about the job. The others who helped serve us were great. Overall, good cocktails and food, but same menu and hit or miss on the service.

We loved the po' boys! D got shrimp and I got catfish and both were excellent - flavorful, spicy, crispy. The regular fries that came on the plate were delicious too. Atmosphere was lively, the place was full at 5:30pm on Sunday (without reservations we were seated at the bar), and the staff were all really friendly. We're so glad we gave this spot a second try after having a less-than-great experience with take-out during the pandemic. Total bill with only 1 fountain soda was $42

I've been here before and the food and service is usually great. Not tonight however. Me and a friend arrived on Super Bowl Sunday and I had no idea that Pearls was closed for the general dinning room. Oh it wasn't? Our server didn't think so who thought it was more important to eat and watch the half time show than at the very least bring menus and water. We sat in the front next to the window and watched our server eat slowly, not caring at all that we actually were excited to eat at Pearls. After waiting about 10 minutes without an acknowledgment (because clearly there was a contingent at the bar that couldn't be disturbed) we decided to leave, go across the street and eat. I guess I'm really surprised that Pearls would be so brazenly unprofessional. Well lesson learned. It's going to be a while before I spend my money here again and recommendation? Friends there are other southern cuisine venues in the immediate neighborhood.
Be the first to ReplyGo for the gumbo, skip the beignets.
Friendly staff. Free street parking on Sunday when we were there.Cute interior and exterior. Want to return and try and bbq, jambalaya, among the various yummy sides I saw on the menu.

What a terrific find! We wanted to eat Southern fare and discovered Pearl's. Tremendous food, lively atmosphere and great staff. We had blackened catfish (best ever), collard greens, Mac and cheese, pulled pork, boudin, and spare ribs. And a super bread pudding for dessert. Every item was delicious. The host Matt was friendly and accommodating. He made sure that everyone was taken care of and Kristene the server was efficient and very helpful discussing the menu. And I loved the quirky decor - a festive and colorful blend of New Orleans. Definitely try it!
Be the first to ReplyI started watching a show called the Great Soul Food
I started watching a show called the Great Soul Food Cook-Off, and within fifteen minutes of the first episode I was starving and wanted some. I'd heard of Pearl's, but haven't been there before, and since it's fewer than two miles away and would satiate my craving for southern food we decided to check it out. I was pleased with my experience here.We started the meal with a beignet appetizer, which was huge--I think there were ten beignets. They were yummy, though I wish they'd come with more powdered sugar. They are served with a chocolate sauce, but I prefer the more simple powdered sugar to the chocolate sauce. Still, it was very good.Next was the main course. I ordered the blackened grilled chicken sandwich, unusual for me because I'm not sure I've ever had a chicken sandwich before. It was really good. I wish they had a simple chicken breast entree, because I loved the taste of the chicken. I wasn't sure about the remoulade because it usually (always?) has horseradish, which is terrible, but this was thankfully light on the horseradish; I could just taste a little tang. My partner got the ribs, and both our entrees came with fries (seasoned or plain, and the seasoning was very light which I appreciated). I learned something about myself at Pearl's: Sometimes, at least, I like ribs. I don't know if I've ever eaten ribs--if so, it's been decades--but these were mouth-watering. They had a delicious rub and while I tried it with the accompanying BBQ I liked them much better without it. I actually stole two of the ribs, and I'd even consider ordering this form myself and I'd definitely be willing to order it as a shared meal. The rack of ribs was huge, but the meat was fantastic. Not fatty, nicely tender, and just yummy to eat. The entrees were accompanied by shared sides of collard greens and Brussels sprouts and cauliflower. All things I love. The collard greens were not bad, but I'm just now as I write this review realizing that part of the reason I didn't enjoy them as much as I may have is because we didn't put any hot sauce on them! They even brought out hot sauce with the meal and I was surprised since I didn't think anything we ordered needed hot sauce. Whoops, my bad. I love Brussels sprouts and cauliflower, and this was ok but a little too sweet for me. It has a pepper jelly but I was hoping for a little more heat to balance the sweet. They had creme brรปlรฉe on their menu, which is my favorite dessert, and I haven't had it since before the pandemic (while I have made it before, it can be a little labor intensive and I am not sure where my torch went!). So I saved half my entree and sides so I could have at least a few bites. It was very large, but it was unfortunately very disappointing. The whole dessert was served cold--both the filling and the top. I know that restaurants don't make these to order but usually I've had it where the top is caramelized when its ordered. This had been in the cooler for a while, already caramelized. The custard itself tasted good, but the texture seemed a little off to me; perhaps a tiny bit too thick? I can't quite put my finger on it.I'll look forward to having a sazarac here sometime. Next time might give the cornbread a try and the collards again with hot sauce this time! I know we'll eat here again, and they do carry out so perhaps we'll give that a shot. Parking here can probably be tricky at times; there's only three right in front but there's some parking around the corner and down the street. Make sure you don't park in the tow zone during the wrong hours!
Be the first to ReplyGreat little spot on Edgewater for some southern comfort
Great little spot on Edgewater for some southern comfort food. We've been here a couple of times, and I would say my favorite dish is the jambalaya--sooo good! There's a kick to it, perfect for a cold winter evening. This is a great spot for a date or a group outing. There isn't a parking lot so you must do with metered spots or side street parking, both of which can be challenging in this area.
Be the first to ReplySecond time coming here.
I don't remember the first time but must have been good enough for me to return. The service today 8.7.22 was terrible. I came alone and nobody approached me for seating but the staff made eye contact with me so they knew I was there. I should've left at that point because I definitely felt unwelcomed. I sat at the bar, it was dirty, the wipe rag was there. I looked and the entire bar needed to be wiped down. I sat for about 10-12 Minutes before I was given water and drink ordered. Right before I began to drink I noticed a "patch" on my cup. I tried to wipe it off and then realized it was on the interior. The cup was DIRTY. The hurricane drink wasn't good. The waitress in the pink/coral top, jeans and gap teeth made eye contact with me several times yet never asked if I wanted to order anything until about 30 minutes total time sitting at the bar. Ordered shrimp and grits and beignets to go. The shrimp and grits sizing is blah and the food is bland. The beniets are burned. I was looking forward to coming here and I regret it here as the experience was subpar and put a damper on my day. Go elsewhere.

I was very impressed with the food and the service. Such a friendly place. I plan on going to Pearl's a lot more

Again cornbread, greens, ribs SO AMAZING! But what is going on with Mac n cheese. It would be a falsehood to even refer to the soggy unsalted noodles in cheese soup as Mac n cheese. If you can't make it then take it off the menu. It does a disservice to all the other wonderful food you serve. I was trying to convert a friend who is a picky eater and that was the one thing they really wanted. Do better.I wld ahow you a picture but it was so bad my friend set it back.

I got the jambalaya which was okay, it had a lot of tomato taste to it and not enough spices for me. My husband got the pork chop which he loved. The must get: the cornbread! SO SO GOOD.
Be the first to ReplyNice rooftop, service was friendly.
Cornbread was very moist (must be all the butter!) My friend got the pulled pork and liked it. My Cobb salad was fresh and tasty. Great on a hot summer night.
Be the first to ReplyYour online ordering is all screwed up.
You can no longer order through Yelp, and I couldn't find any other way to order online via your website. I gave up. I've given a lot of business to Pearl's via online orders. You should fix this problem soon before it cuts into your revenue.
Be the first to ReplyGreat ambiance.
Impeccable service. We started with the fried green tomatoes, the cornbread, and the catfish nuggets. The cornbread was so light and fluffy. We also got the Cobb salad which was humongous. We also got the blackened catfish with the collard greens and mac and cheese. The catfish was seasoned just right. We ended on the beignets which were just tiny heavenly pillows of fried goodness. Will be back to try the banana pudding and the rooftop.
Be the first to ReplyMy partner and I decided to walk over to Pearl's for a late
My partner and I decided to walk over to Pearl's for a late dinner on a Saturday eve. We arrived at 9:30p an hour before their posted and online time to close of 10:30p -- The hostess greeted us as we walked in, and soon as I asked for a table for 2 she informed us they closed the kitchen already and we're closing early. I get the appeal of closing early if you're not busy, but how are patrons to trust your hours or consider you as an option if you're unreliable -- Since the pandemic I know this has been a larger issue with fewer people going out as frequently which is why we constantly try and give local businesses our attention. Consider a new patron drove or took transit to come to your establishment to be turned away. There's a strong guarantee they won't return. I'm local and you're walkable but it was still a bummer when we didn't plan for a backup and had to scramble to find something else nearby. But it's going to be more of a struggle to rebuild relationships and create new ones with customers if they can't rely on you to adhere to your hours posted / etc. All the best.

I happen to eat here several times over a one week period As it was near the place I was staying in Chicago. This place is truly a gem. We pretty much went up and down the menu with the highlights being for us, the Cobb salad and the ribs. If you're looking for a good solid meal this is the place for you.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was amazing and the staff was beyond sweet.
The rooftop patio was perfection. I will be back since there were too many amazing options to choose from.
Be the first to ReplyThis is our go to place.
My boyfriend really likes their ribs. Ordered dinner thru Grubhub and what a letdown. Not only did they forget an item. Which was my entree but mac and cheese was mostly mac with very little cheese and cold noodles. ย When its good its amazing but this time was so disappointing. Is there a separate kitchen for take out because this is not the quality I have come to expect frim them. Will i go back yes. Will I order takeout again. Not likely.
Be the first to ReplyFood and drinks with friends! Staff was very accommodating.
We absolutely loved the cornbread, greens and the shrimp and grits!

Being an Uptown resident restaurants like this are refreshing, exciting and top my list for local eats. Let me say that I have given Pearls top reviews in the past as it conjured memories of trips to NOLA and detours to Memphis for some of my favorite dishes. We decided to head to Pearls for Hurricanes and dinner. Unfortunately the Hurricanes were totally different from their original mix and nothing like bourbon street at Pat O'Brien's. My shrimp and grits came with tiny shrimp and a very loose and bland sauce. My wife seemed to enjoy her burger but why would you come here for a burger? The not so fresh cornbread was moist after the helping of cold butter melted in. Maybe if you are less traveled or simply know nothing of this type of food you might be okay dropping a hundred dollar bill on an insult to southern cuisine but for me, I won't be back. DAMN, I liked that place.
Be the first to ReplyPearl's simply has few peers when it comes to delicious
Pearl's simply has few peers when it comes to delicious food. This place flies under the radar but the food at Pearl's is as good as the cuisine you'll find in the best West Loop or Logan Square establishments. We've eaten at Pearl's and we've had delivery to our home. Regardless, the quality is still the same--excellent. You can't go wrong at this place: the barbecue sampler, the jambalaya, the grits with cheese and shrimp, and the collard greens--to die for. This place is worth the trip to Edgewater no matter where you live in Chicago.
Be the first to ReplyOrdered delivery for the first time.
The problem was the food. Ordered the "four cheese Mac and cheese" and it should rather be named "watered down elbow noodles". These were SOOOO bad, for $8 you would think there would actually be cheese!!! Super bland and watery. Horrible and disappointing first time experience. Won't be ordering here again.
