Never Again....
PEARL’S Southern Comfort Food Rest. – 5352 N Broadway St., Chicago, –
NEVER AGAIN. Decided to try Pearl’s again during C-19. Called several times, no answer. Looked on internet to make sure they were open. Yes, open at 4:00. Walked inside & it was empty, bar stools on top of the bar. Asked the woman sitting in the back by kitchen if they are open & can you order a drink since no one was behind the bar. Answer: Yes. She kept sitting in the back by kitchen. The other half went to pay for parking & came back in and we were deciding where to sit since every table was available a man came up to us from the kitchen and said they are open for take out now but we would have to wait till 5:00 to eat there. The other half said, “why didn’t someone, like the women, come up to us & tell us that before we paid for parking?” The man turned round and walk briskly back to the kitchen & the woman just still sat back there on her phone. WE WILL NEVER GO BACK TO PEARL’S. Many restaurants out there who treat their customers like royalty & with respect.
Loved the Food!
Delicious southern food. Grits were terrific and the stuffing was the best. Only complaint is that it took too long for the breakfast made to order omelets and pancake, only one cook on the day we visited.

We originally found Pearl's when we were looking for a restaurant where we could meet friends who live in Evanston. But we quickly loved Pearl's for much more than its location. The food is New Orleans comfort food at its best. The BBQ is excellent (all of it), and starter standouts are the Creole cornbread, pulled pork poutine, and the crawfish cheesecake. The shrimp and grits is worthy of plate licking.
The bar and wait staff are friendly, helpful, and have just the right touch of engagement. The atmosphere is warm and not too loud. It's like settling into your family room and definitely not like an evening on Bourbon Street.
We've never been there during the summer, but that will change soon. Their upstairs outdoor patio looks delightful. I look forward to sitting up there while sipping a Hendrick's and tonic soon.
Southern Comfort, Not Soul Food
Please note this is a “southern comfort” restaurant, not a soul food place. I had the catfish po boy sandwich and my friend had the catfish with sides. The fish was good, but not not crispy enough. My friend really liked her sides. For drinks, I had the blackberry smoke which was really good. The mezcal with the ginger beer was a nice combination. My friend had margaritas, which she said were also tasty. The service was good, and the staff was friendly.

I went to this restaurant, having tried a few of the "five star" restaurants recommended in Chicago, and coming away disappointed with nearly all of them.
Pearl's looks far out of town on a map, but it's a short ride in a cab from Michigan Avenue and, quite honestly, it's well worth the effort!
On entering the place, we were greeted by Matthew, who enbodied everything about this place. He was really friendly, and gave us some excellent receommendations.
We ended up ordering a few drinks, and going for the dry rub chicken wings, and then sharing the meat combo of a quarter chicken, half a rack of ribs, and 1/4 lb of pulled pork with regular and cajun fries.
The quality of the cooking was fabulous. The meat was tender, full of flavour, and just fell off the bone. The fries were nice and salty, with the canjun fries giving a nice kick.
One thing you get a lot in restaurants in Chicago is the feeling of being rushed, particularly after you've finished your meal. But at no point were we made to feel in any hurry, so we had another drink before leaving.
Would highly recommend going here. The food, service, and overall atmosphere were all on-point. Plus, paying just over $50 for food and drinks this good, it's really a no-brainer to go here!
AMAZING!!
My goodness this was some of the tastiest food I have ever had. I had the shrimp po boy sandwich and it was so good that i still think about it almost a year later.

We had the best New Orleans dinner outside of New Orleans! Great ambience, they make a good Sazarac and the food was delicious! We’ve been here for dinner about 3 times now and bought gift certificates for the in-laws! Must try if you like the Big Easy!
Be the first to ReplyBest New Orleans-Style Food In Chicago!
We were delighted by this restaurant. We are big fans of New Orleans cuisine, and like Big Jones, the various incarnations of Art Smith’s reataurant, etc—but this was BETTER...and ridiculously reasonably priced. The ambiance is lively but conversation-friendly. Craft cocktails are pitch perfect. Food is to die for: Cornbread with Cajun butter, crawfish cheesecake, BBQ ribs, Shrimp & Grits, smoked chicken wings, Cajun fries, Mac & cheese, jambalaya —you name it, the dish was great. Friendly service, street parking —what more could you want?

Friends and I visited Pearl’s to try the BBQ. Our friend is restricted to a gluten free diet and their menu stated that all BBQ plates are gluten free. This ended up not being true because their BBQ sauce has Worstershire sauce which has gluten...super disappointing.
The food was very good. Our GF friend ended up getting the cheese grits with smoked chicken sans sauce.
Service was mediocre, drinks were slow to come.
We won’t hurry back.
It has been a year and a half but the food is just as good
Their mostly night hours have kept me away. I found out about the Saturday brunch hours and came right over. I lived in the French Quarter for a year. I like the food and Pearl's did not disappoint at all. The waitress, Erin, was friendly and helpful. The food was good but not quite as hot as I remember . That is good and the way I wanted it. It was a good NOLA meal . Even the decor was right.
