A Must Go Restaurant in Lisbon
We were a little worried that the comments were so different. We managed to get a reservation at Pateo at the last moment. (Actually, this place consists of different restaurants. I don't know why there isn't a separate title for Pateo.) We were a large group but Francesca who took care of our table created a great experience for us. Food choices were excellent. Glad we went. None of us thought this was a tourist trap place. Thanks to Francesca :)

Service was very poor, slow and inattentive. Food was mediocre especially based on the hype of its michelin chef. Should not be recommended on michelin guide.
Be the first to ReplyA very good night-out restaurant
This establishment has 4 restaurants: a pizzaria, a mini-bar, Taberna, and a higher-end area, Pateo, where we had dinner. It is an elegant area with a great view of the upper reaches of the building: the second level has the pizzaria and mini bar. The staff is constantly in motion as the place was busy but not so busy to get service quickly. We started with tuna tartare which was very tasty and a nice bottle of Vinho Verde. The mains were the lobster bisque, grilled octopus, sea bass, grilled squid. Everything was extremely good. This was the best meal so far in our trip. We finished off with chocolate cake, pavlova, and hazelnut (3 ways!). This is definitely a more expensive meal, around 65 Euro per person all in but this isn't terribly expensive given the quality of the food, the very good service, and the ambiance of the restaurant. I would return for another meal but I would like to check out some of the other restaurants in the city of equal rating to see how they compare.

We can’t understand any of the negative reviews; this was one of the best meals we’ve all eaten. Superb food: octopus & beef tartare both spectacular, beautiful lobster bisque. Main courses all excellent: squid, steak, cod… watch out for the exploding olives! Service was fantastic too, definitely not rushed and really lovely staff. Unsurprisingly for food of this quality it’s really busy so book ahead.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing. Avoid!
Terrible place. Indifferent waiter. Food in Tavern quite mediocre. The dessert “salty caramel” turned out to be a pathetic mix of brownies, a drop of salty caramel all topped up by popcorn. Cheap and disappointing. But they did include a tip into the bill which they did not deserve. The whole experience felt more like McDonald’s than a classy restaurant it is supposed to be. Avoid!
Be the first to ReplyDelicious seafood & traditional delicacies
Barrio do Avillez is a complex created by chef Jose Avillez where there is a seafood restaurant,a taberna and a pizzeria. We went for a dinner to the seafood restaurant located inside and also for lunch to the taberna where we had a seating outside. There was a nice atmosphere in the restaurant. The service was attentive and the seafood was delicious. At the taberna we had cheese and charcuterie with a glass of red wine; Esperao reserve from Alejento. A place to try if you are in Lisbon.
Be the first to ReplyOne of the best meals I had
Frankly, I don't understand the negative comments from other travellers. This place has all the possible ingredients to satisfy every taste. You want to eat a pizza? No problem. You want to have tapas on the terrace? No problem. You wish to have a full meal inside? You've got it! Of course it's busy, but then it's probably one of the best value places in town for this kind of quality. Portions are not big, granted, but that's the way they eat in these countries. You can always order more! The wine list is spectacular - just ask the staff to chose for you if you don't know what to take. If I ever return to Lisbon, this is definitely a place where I'll return to.

Was there in August 2019 with the family, nice tapas menu with variety in a very nice and authentic atmosphere. Will visit again next time in Lisbon
Be the first to ReplyGreat atmosphere and enjoyable food
We ate at Bairro do Avillez at Saturday lunchtime (two adults and a toddler). We hadn't booked a reservation but were able to chose a table outside on the terrace. We found the service to be excellent with very friendly staff. They were very accommodating for children - offered a good size table in the shade, highchair provided, colouring pencils and good changing facilities. We ate the selection of Portugese cheeses, cod with exploding olives and pork steak with chips. We thoroughly enjoyed our food. The bill with a couple of drinks and water came to €70 which we felt was reasonable given the location. We would happily return here again!
Be the first to ReplyPoor service, food, value
Our dinner can be summarized as follows: - Waiter completely ignored me - Unable to hold a normal conversation given all the noise - Wine served ice cold - Mistaken food order meant we had to wait longer On a positive note, the salad was pretty good (which I would expect from any restaurant worth their salt, given it can be made by any inexperienced chef) Overall, massively overprised restaurant that I would not recommend.
Be the first to ReplyVery good restaurant
The good is delicious, atmosphere is very vibrant, staff friendly. The tuna ceviche is amazing as is the buratta and lettuce salad
Be the first to ReplyDISAPPOINTED REALLY
I was wondering why this place is so famous. Last weekend I decided to visit this place……disappointed.
The starters…
Clams with coriander,if you want I can teach you how to make wonderful clams ,very easy
Shrimp with garlic and spicy….i really had the idea that they use frozen shrimp
My wife chose LOBSTER AND SHRIMP RICE BROTHY RICE WITH LOBSTER AND SHRIMP, CORIANDER, RED CHILLI PEPPER AND LIME.,the dish was tasty
I chose ALENTEJO PORK PLUME STEAK SERVED WITH FRENCH FRIES, PICKLES AND, TOMATO AND CORIANDER SALAD. ……. Shame for this type of restaurant the food was cold….
The only thing that save the night…Bairro’s White Wine Sangria
White Wine, Peppermint, Cinnamon, Assorted Fruits, Vodka, Rum, Moscatel Wine
I was really disappointed and for 160 euros should be much better
I just imagine if I was the group of 3 Germans next to us that after the started they left the coats and the went out to have a smoke and when they returned the table was cleaned even 3 glasses half of wine 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Word for this night DISAPPOINTED
Lovely space
Reminiscent of Powerscourt in dublin, but even more fabulous food, great seafood, expensive for Lisboa but nice atmosphere, coeliac friendly and great staff
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and wine
Bairro de Avillez has four restaurants in the building. We ate at Pateo which the formal restaurant at the rear of the building with a high ceiling. The menu has lots of choice, the food was excellent. The waiter managed to find the wine we wanted by going to upstairs to the pizzeria. Overall the food and wine were of a high quality and the price was reasonable.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food and wine, well priced
Difficult to get in - they have four separate eating areas, in different styles, but all very busy! I was eventually found a space, and I enjoyed a lovely tuna steak sandwich, with fries/trimmings. There was some very acceptable wine and a lovely chocolate dessert, too! Fair, mid-range pricing.
Be the first to ReplyNothing special
The service was slow. Took ages to be served. The cost does not justify the taste of the food. There was nothing special on the flavors. Just another nice/average restaurant with good marketing, but expensive.
