This was an unforgettable experience.
The food was excellent, staff was kind, and the setting was beautiful. We came for our one year wedding anniversary and felt so special. The explaining of every dish, the selection of wine for pairing was incredible. Made us appreciate the experience!
Be the first to ReplyI hate giving 3 stars because I loved everything about this
I hate giving 3 stars because I loved everything about this place. The service, the food, the ambiance - it was all amazing! I do wish the dessert course was better, but the cookie they sent us home with was delicious. I'm giving 3 stars because my friend and I both got sick afterwards, which is surprising and disappointing. Hopefully it was a one off because even as we were leaving, I was saying I would definitely go back!
Be the first to ReplyThe restaurant with the worst experience; Booking 4
The restaurant with the worst experience; Booking 4 people, one arrived on time, but the other three were 25 minutes late. The result was that several appetisers were cancelled directly, and the manager was reprimanded because of the late guests. Since one person did arrive on time, why didn't you serve appetizers? They reported that it was a restaurant rule, which was not mentioned in the reservation email prompt that was sent out. Then, when checking out, there was a problem with their POS connection and we needed to wait more than 35 minutes to Email them in order to check out. I asked why they were holding us up now because of their problems? He said he was sorry. I said you delay my time, you have lost nothing. Yet when we were late we lost our appetizers. He was speechless. What a disgusting dining experience.
Be the first to ReplyI'm admittedly new to fine dining, but a birthday meal I
I'm admittedly new to fine dining, but a birthday meal I shared with my partner was the best (and most expensive) eating experience of my entire life. You can really feel the care and attention to detail in each dish, and for the first time in my life, I actually understand a sommelier's role in the dining experience. I didn't think it was bull, necessarily, but maybe an overstated power of suggestion. I now feel differently. The interplay between wine and meal is now a delicate dance choreographed with care. Considering the cost, I doubt that I'll have enough fine dining experiences in my life to the point where I become inured, even cynical. But should I become lucky enough to afford such meals on a semi-regular basis, I hope that I never turn a blind eye to the level of creativity, of passion, of sheer emotion and care put into this experience.
Be the first to ReplyThis placed definitely earned their Michelin Star.
Such a unique dining experience, and the food items were so well thought out and exquisitely crafted. The journey starts at the most inconspicuous location in a strip mall, but once you enter the main dining space, you are greeted by an open concept kitchen where you, as guests, surround the chefs as they create and serve the tasting menu right in front of you. The entire team was very attentive and engaging. I would definitely recommend this memorable and delicious experience.
Be the first to ReplyPerfection.
Every bite, every detail, every ingredient, and every encounter with chef or staff is sublime. This is the greatest food experience in Los Angeles, and perhaps all of California. My tongue is still savoring every morsel of our vegetarian tasting menu. Going early meant we had the dining experience to ourselves, which was a true highlight. The "kitchen" adds so much to the peacefulness and care vibe of the restaurant. You enter another world and give your taste buds over to the most thoughtfully designed creations. The general manager and chefs share their passions with you, which enhances the experience from the pre-dinner amuse bouche and cocktail through the final dessert. This is a five star experience. Don't listen to any review that doesn't give it five stars. Excellence in execution from the moment they begin preparing until they bid you a personal goodbye. The most memorable gastronomic excursion of the year!
Be the first to ReplyThis place deserves a 4.
5 stars not sure why the Yelp review is not even a 4. The food was good comparable to other Michelin star places around town. The service was superb and eating at the counter to see the chefs interacting was nice too. Me and my friend had a great girl's night out. We didn't have any expectations and were pleasantly surprised.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent- a true dinning experience.
Well worth it!!! Everything is an experience, from the way you are treated, served, and what your taste buds experience as they journey through all the different flavors.
Be the first to ReplyI won't waste my breath or your time, so I'll keep this
I won't waste my breath or your time, so I'll keep this review short n' sweet and let the pictures do the dirty work. This meal is fantastic, the staff is outstanding and their attention to detail is immaculate. I came here not loving seafood, and left seeing the power of a well-cooked, love-soaked, intentional meal. So, do I like seafood now??? Pasta Bar is worth the $$. Come hungry.
Be the first to ReplyOverall - 2/5.
Pasta Bar is kind of what you get when you reverse engineer what you think a Michelin starred restaurant should be and figure out what 45-50 year old professionals can afford to spend to feel successful in their dining habits. Nothing is simple on the menu - everything is overly sauced or naked - as if being extreme is part of the idea. Everything is wagyu fat this or truffle that - all rich - nothing quite joyous. Kitchen is like watching synchronized swimming if the participants were an all men's chorus of former pirates with a fondness for butter. Cool - but kind of scary? Why no women? Can't say. Everyone was pleasant but something is off. The music selection was downright weird and stuck in a 90s/00s hip hop, r&b mix that doesn't seem to match the setting or food. I suppose most of these observations are the result of the economics of fine dining in Los Angeles. For reasons explained below, for what ended up being an Italian Japanese fusion, I'd much prefer the low key dining experience of Orsa & Winston over the somewhat gimmicky allure of Pasta Bar. Cost - 1/5 this place used be somewhat more affordable with a $125 tasting menu - it has jumped to $225 with similarly priced wine pairing $145. This means with the included service charge and tax (applied on top of service) you're looking close to $1,000 for a couple. This hefty price tag earns an honest review. Atmosphere - 2/5. Setting is in valley mid-rise strip mall - if you know Encino you know the feel. The location is at a somewhat unmarked and unremarkable door, we had to ask the neighboring restaurant for directions and we could tell they get this question a lot. Like a few others cropping up in LA there is a waiting room bar. Strangely, though there were plenty of seats, they asked us to sit in particular bar seats next to other people. They then serve "canapes" and a welcome drink. Drink was good. My concern started to grow when the canapes were actually crudo. Is this a nomenclature issue? No -- due to some renovation issues with its sister restaurant downstairs, Sushi Bar, which had somehow relocated to the adjoining location at Pasta Bar - apparently we were destined to have the sushi restaurant bleed into the Pasta Bar menu for the rest of the night. I asked if I could order a cocktail - but we were told it was time to go to the kitchen - we had a schedule to keep. You're invited back to the kitchen for the rest of your night. It's a cool open kitchen concept with may 12 seats, with maybe 8 people also hustling and bustling preparing dishes, baking bread, serving wine etc. The problem began when they sat us at the far end. The AC register was aimed squarely at that seat blowing frigid air at the patrons head. When my wife - originally assigned the seat raised the issue, we were told to just switch seats. After 2 minutes I couldn't be comfortable and asked if they can close that particular vent. A very friendly server came out with a step ladder to do so but was shooed away by the chef. Instead they turned off the AC temporarily - opting to instead have the seat alternate between hot and cold - I had to keep alternating wearing my jacket multiple times. Honestly I was left feeling that this was such a known issue, it was odd that they felt the need to seat someone there to get the extra tasting in their books without correcting it. Service - I'd give it a 3/5. The somm was good - but the wine pairing was so-so. Interesting grape varietals, but for $145 wine pairing it mostly consists of $18-35 bottles of wine at what felt like quarter pours as opposed to the one-third pours we were told. So you're talking about fifty bucks a glass of pretty affordable wine - very heavy on whites. Added a point because they accommodated us the day of to have an earlier time so we could get back to our kids. Food - 2/5 ok this is weird - a Pasta Bar in name only? There were pasta dishes - I don't want to suggest there were not - but probably best not to let the name inform your expectations. We're talking single ravioli, four pieces of garganelli, etc. It's hard to judge food objectively - there were dishes I really liked and others that felt strange - like almost too salty to eat - or entirely covered in sauce to drown out the underlying ingredients. It's difficult to really rate this - but my wife and I had different opinions on each dish. Should food at this price point and acclaim really be polarizing though? We did agree that the bite of "wagyu" did not taste like the A5 available in LA. Bread was killer - they recommended we wait to eat half with the dishes but over a 2 hour meal you can see how this is just terrible advice. My mouth still hurts from the abrasions of dead bread toward the end. In conclusion - maybe we went on an off Saturday night or maybe our expectations were too high. But everything, even our negative experience all seemed so intentional. Who was breaking up with who here?
Be the first to ReplyPastaBar is one of my favorite restaurants with one
PastaBar is one of my favorite restaurants with one Michelin star! This was my first time dining at a chef's counter experience and I loved it. It was so fun how interactive it was, being able to watch the chefs create these beautiful dishes as well as ask them questions about it afterwards. Every dish was cooked perfectly and had wonderful flavors. The courses that were most memorable for me were the A5 wagyu carpaccio, crab ravioli, truffle gnocchi, iberico, and the lemon granita. The Iberico was like nothing i've had before, it was my first time trying it and it just melted right in my mouth, it was so buttery! I definitely want to come back here in the future, this was such a fun night that I will never forget! (October 2022)

LA|Pasta Bar A niche Michelin one star restaurant in LA, the same place as Sushi|bar (although I haven't eaten it yet) the reservation time is 930pm, it's a bit weird to eat dinner until 11pm hahaEach guest will have a name tag ~ taste and plate are very good, do not order wine then per capita 200 +, worth a meal [smile R] (I think it is possible to eat full, I am not very hungry so I did not eat much after)The ice cream for dessert is delicious and topped with caviar ~ You can make a reservation two or three days in advance ($25/seat deposit) #LosAngelesMichelin restaurant #LosAngelesFood #LosAngelesMichelin #LosAngelesExploration
Be the first to ReplyReally run down mini mall, that doesn't even have
Really run down mini mall, that doesn't even have escalators working, kind of low rent, first impressions, sort of so-so. Bar wasn't exactly cozy and would have been nice if they told us they scheduled so much time for us to have a pre-drink, as we would have skipped it. It's a loooooong time with a tasting menu like that to be sitting at a bar, so skipping the pre-event, which was nothing, would be recommended. The food was fine. The room was cold with tons of air blowing around overhead which made for a really "dry" and uncomfortable experience, and I left smelling like grease. I had an easy time getting in ... i think the new prices perhaps are leaving some behind. $225 without wine, well ... it's not Vespertine (restaurant in Culver City) that is truly an "experience" and stunning and interactive, and that pricing is about the same but you have multi beautiful rooms, experiential interactive situations, multi rooms, architectural beauty and truly a feeling of a special occaison. This is not that. I give the chef an A for effort, a few of the dishes were great, many not my jam, but really the lower stars here are for the pricing in terms of what you get and the atmosophere.
Be the first to ReplyPsh, I mean, a Michelin starred restaurant with PASTA in
Psh, I mean, a Michelin starred restaurant with PASTA in its name? Count me in. How convenient that my man's birthday was around the corner and I was able to snag a reservation. This wasn't just a dinner. This was an EXPERIENCE. I love the inconspicuous entrance. It almost looked like an abandoned area of a mall that was waiting for a new store to come. You have to know where to look. Once you do figure out where the door is, then the welcome area is a full service bar where they allow you to relax, sip on a fabulous welcome drink, and wait for everyone at your dinner time to arrive. When everyone has arrived and the chefs are ready, they take everyone through the hallways to a chefs counter that looks like it came straight out of a European design catalog. The chefs are preparing everything right in front of you, there are personalized notes at your seat, the lighting scheme highlights everything that needs to be seen, and then the main event begins. There's no point in reviewing each dish because not only do they change on a regular basis, but it goes without saying that the ingredients, preparation, techniques, flavors, and presentation were masterful. Every single dish, every single bite. The chefs took turns presenting each dish. They were approachable, fun to talk to, and knew every detail inside and out. They accommodated my menu option that I selected when I made the reservation and pointed out when my dish was different. At the end, they opened another door I had no idea was there, and we went through the portal back to reality, having just been transported to another world.
Be the first to ReplyI was really excited for some pasta.
.. at Pasta Bar... we had maybe 8 pieces of pasta altogether. Staff was friendly and so I feel bad writing this, but seriously? We paid $650 for 2 people for some below average dishes. Seats 12. The outside looks like it's abandoned but you have to press a doorbell to get in and you have to walk all the way up to the bell to see that it's for Pasta Bar because the sign above only says SCRATCH BAR. The music was 90s hip hop and r&b and it was so loud that I couldn't hear the chef that was announcing every dish, 4 feet from my face. Food looked pretty so if you're looking for nice pics and friendly staff then go ahead but I was not a fan of the food. One of the 12 courses is literally sourdough bread.
Be the first to ReplyPasta Bar is a concept by renowned Michelin Star rated
Pasta Bar is a concept by renowned Michelin Star rated Scratch Bar. The restaurant seats 12 diners per service, at a visually stunning chef's table around a bustling open kitchen. The menu is not Italian or even necessarily pasta focused, though the scratch made pastas are the star of the show. The 12 course tasting menu ($225/person) can best be described as California cuisine. My husband and I dined here on Valentine's Day, where a special menu was served, featuring exclusive ingredients like winter truffles and caviar. Upon arrival, we were invited to sit in the cozy lounge area, and offered a special cocktail. I do not recall what was in it, but it was delicious. The staff took our photo with a Polaroid camera, which was later attached to our take home menu. A nice touch. Once seated inside at the chef's table, we were offered two different wine pairings, a standard for $175 per person, or vintage, for $225. We opted for the vintage, and while the pours were generous, none of the wines were particularly impressive. At this price point, we expected a splash of Dom or Krug at least, considering the occasion. But, all of the selections were $30-$40 bottles. All of the food was good, but only a few dishes stood out. My favorite overall was the Cavatelli with prawn, poblano, and caviar. The pasta was fresh and perfectly cooked, and the ingredients were better than the sum of their parts. The Tagliolini with walnut and perigord truffle tasted like a really good Mac and Cheese, and the Agnolotti with sunchoke and shiso was a nutty, aromatic delight. Everything else was just okay. I wished the desserts were more interesting for the occasion. Service was genuinely charismatic and hospitable, but could have been more polished. We are open to trying the restaurant's other concepts in the future, but would not come back to Pasta Bar.

I have been fortunate to eat at many restaurants around the world. More than a few have had a Michelin Star or two. I went to Pasta Bar not knowing what to expect.I shared this with the Executive Chef and I am going to share this with you"Your food is painfully beautiful to look at as it is to eat" I am going to add that everything smells wonderful as well.Everyone in that kitchen works their butt off, pouring their heart and soul into every course presented. Everyone in that beautiful open kitchen took the time to talk to all of us.Jennifer, the General Manager, is amazingly kind, thoughtful and professional.I took many pictures but am not ready to share them.Who knew that my favorite restaurant in the world would be in Encino?I cannot wait to go back one day.If you have the opportunity to go, please do so.
Be the first to ReplyCompared to many other Michelin restaurants I've been to in
Compared to many other Michelin restaurants I've been to in the Bay Area and LA, I say pasta bar isn't the top of them but it's definitely a solid choice based on the low price point ($195 at the time). I don't see an issue with a welcome cocktail, and the servers took us in (one party at a time) to the dining area, which was an open kitchen. I loved that we can see the staff cooking and then interacting with us was a highlight. Please note pasta bar isn't JUST a pasta bar. While there are 5 pasta dishes, the other 5 courses varies with diff seafood/meat. Fave was the squid dish, they served you warm sourdough bread at the beginning and you can use it to dip the pasta throughout your meal. People complaining about wine list are ???. Many high end dining only offers wine pairing. This is not an issue. My partner loved the regular wine pairing as there's 10 glasses (one per each course!!!). Honestly a solid 4/5, and a great entry level to Michelin style dining if you are in a budget.
Be the first to ReplyIncredible and worth every penny.
Celebrated our 11th anniversary here last month and would love to celebrate more anniversaries/big birthdays, etc. here in the future. Loved every moment (embarrassingly audibly.. the dishes, wine pairings, every freaking aspect of this experience). It's been over a month, but I remember how every offering tasted, was presented, felt and looked (incredible). I sincerely appreciated the hip hop played. Can't place any negative on our experience. We can't wait to celebrate another anni, birthday, random day here again.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Experience.
The whole staff from when you walk in until you're done with your meal was just excellent. Food was out of this world and the way they explained to you what you were eating was an experience in itself. The sommelier was very knowledgable and the wine he suggested fit each dish. I'm def going back. The music by was probably the best playlist i've heard in a minute. No wonder this place is a Michelin Star!!! I'd give it 5 Michelin Stars. Great experience and not one complaint.Only advice I have for everyone is go in with an open mind and trust your taste buds!!!! They need to open more of these. I'm also going back for Sushi Bar!!!
Be the first to ReplyPasta Bar signals the long overdue death of the tasting
Pasta Bar signals the long overdue death of the tasting menu. It is the perfect illustration of how high quality ingredients, some random ideas, and a profusion pretension can come together to make a thoroughly unpleasant evening. Pasta Bar also costs a fortune. Dinner there began by pressing a buzzer and waiting outside a nondescript door in an Encino mini-mall. Inside, we were seated at a small bar and then charmlessly interrogated about our dietary restrictions. We were given a 'complimentary cocktail' which is an amusing concept considering we ended up paying $800 for a meal for two. Then we waited for a long time. After having been reminded numerous times to be there at exactly 7pm, finally, at 7:30 another charmless attendant stepped in the bar and yelled at the top of his lungs that it's time for all 8 of us to move into the actual Pasta Bar ---which looks like the set from Chopped. Actually the whole dinner felt like being on Chopped: stressful. There is no wine list. We were offered two options. A 'standard' wine pairing at $145 and the 'Sommelier' paring at $225. This on top of dinner being $200 a head. So, to put things into perspective, the standard wine pairing for one is what dinner for two could cost at a nice restaurant down the street. And all of this is communicated by someone yelling at all of us, like we're in line at a middle school cafeteria. The sommelier was kind and the wines were (mostly) delicious but the sommelier had a rather strange habit of loudly describing the taste of every wine at great length before we could even sip it. Please let us decide on our own if it evokes butterscotch and damp leather. And please stop yelling. To distract ourselves from the slow motion misery, we watched the 7 all-white all-cisgender-male staff work furiously on 8 tiny plates. How's the food, you might ask? It's good. But actually I don't remember much of it. There was beef carpaccio in ponzu; there were tiny gnocchi with shrimp: there was duck and.... two bites of 13 different things. My stomach goes into shock at a tasting menu. The best degustation restaurants, like Guy Savoy in Paris, offer 5 courses at the most. Last night we watched multiple dishes appear with a sense of dread, hoping that each would be the last. By the way, there was very little pasta. I had imagined it would be a carb-fest, but no. This is only a mishmash of things, with no idea at its core. Except yelling. Pasta Bar is modeled on Minibar, Jose Andres' brilliant 12-seat restaurant that opened in DC in 2003. But Minibar is fun. The staff are joyous and the food is playful and sensuous. For about a little more money you could fly to DC and go to Minibar. I would suggest that.
Be the first to ReplyFor a Michelin star I expected to be wowed by every dish
For a Michelin star I expected to be wowed by every dish and it didn't do it for me. My husband surprised me on a date here and we were both very disappointed. The only thing that wowed us as far as creativity and taste was the strawberry dessert at the end of the course. We originally went to sushi bar and we loved it to we were expecting the same wow after each bit but we didn't get it. We expected the dishes to highlight more pastas. The Sevice was great and the staff were friendly. I love that the chef came and said hi to us as well. Ive been to a few michellin restaurants and we left after a big bill not feeling satisfied with the flavors of the dishes.
Be the first to ReplyWe very much enjoyed the food and wine pairing but
We very much enjoyed the food and wine pairing but disappointed at the end when we asked for coffee and were denied abruptly. Just felt like the meal wasn't rounded out nicely. Big props to the chef team and the sommelier- they were GREAT hence the 3 stars - just felt the manager at the end left things a bit dissatisfied - which is a tough way to leave an otherwise stellar meal.

Past Bar? Where is the pasta? 9 dishes included all of two pastas, one piece each! While the foodie would love the variety of small portions (very small), it does not explain that this is not a pasta focused restaurant. The price tag is also very steep for what we received. It all tasted good, that's the best I can say.Service was also a disappointment. Our server really did not know wines that came with a separate pairing. The wines typically were poured after the food had been served. And I felt rushed. Overall, not as good as the original Scratch. I would recommend spending $400+ per person elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyFirst, the name is somewhat misleading as our plates rarely
First, the name is somewhat misleading as our plates rarely included any kind of pasta. My son and I did enjoy our courses. Initially I thought the restaurant was super-attentive asking upon booking, upon confirmation and when we arrived if there was an allergy. Every time I confirmed that my husband had a shellfish allergy and cross-contamination was an issue. By the fifth course, my husband started feeling bloated & "odd." He requested no more food and was able to let my son and I finish our courses. By the time we got home he was violently ill with his typical seafood reaction, thought at no point did we think he consumed any. At one point all the chefs turned and looked at him when preparing food and one of them had a look on his face like "uh-oh." I have no idea if it was cross-contamination or someone accidentally gave him a sauce or something that contained something he had an allergy to but had I read reviews before where two other people described the same exact reaction, we would have chosen another place to dine. In my opinion, they should advise anyone with an allergy against making a reservation.
