Oyster Bay Beach Resort Upper Prince's Quarter Reviews from The Last Year
Would never return.
What a disappointment! There was not enough staff to help deliver luggage, so we dragged out bags up several flights of stairs to our room, and repeated the same the following day for checkout. You would expect extra staff would be on hand knowing there were a lot of passengers coming in a day early for the Windstar cruise. The room was nice, but the floor dirty. Our feet were black from walking around the unit barefoot. The AC in our room was too noisy to run. Not at all good value for the money we paid. The only redeeming thing was dinner on the patio. The food was very good and the staff there pleasant.
Fun in the Sun!
This was our first visit to OBBR. We went with some good friends who have a timeshare there. It was an amazing trip and made that way because of the great employees. First, the main bar by the Pool. What a fantastic crew. Dave, Edith and Wanda were so personable, friendly, and great bartenders. They made us feel welcomed and took great card of us. Next, the Veranda. From the boss, Oscar, to Justine the bartender and servers, Crystal and Shbailey, we were highly satisfied. The food served at the Veranda was excellent, especially the Rotisserie Chicken and Bom Bom Shrimp. Justine makes some fine shots!!! Finally I want to say thanks to Jamie in the Market. She was so friendly and went out of her way to make sure my wife got her Monster Energy Drinks. Thanks to all the staff there for making my wife’s Birthday trip an enjoyable and memorable one!!!
Beautiful spot but needs upgrades
Trying to be objective. pros: beautiful property between an inlet called Oyster Pond looking out toward mountainous St. Barth. The pool area is nice but small although they put up two loud, ugly and dated waterfalls that block the view. (You’ll have to chose between that white noise or piped in music elsewhere around the pool) The view - where you can see it, is incredible. There’s a small beach a walk away ( although for some weird reason there’s a steady stream of brown seaweed you can see heading toward the beach) still nice enough. With umbrellas and chairs. It’s on the East coast of the Island away from everything but just a short walk from the French side and a great Pizza Place (Mamas- talking NY quality) and a French bakery and bistro. You do need a car or you are beholden to expensive taxis or side trips sponsored by resort. Cons: no guarantee or even a good chance you will get a room facing the ocean. They gave us a fourth- floor walk up ( we’re older but spry but that daily up and down would have killed our knees). When we complained they gave us a second floor “marina view” of the parking lot and inlet. We didn’t spend a large amount of time in the room but we certainly would have enjoyed ourselves more had we won the view lottery. Don’t bother talking to the desk - unlike every other worker here who couldn’t be nicer they were trained to be rude and to stand their ground. I’m sure we were not the only ones to complain. And then there are the extra fees over the trade or daily rate - $50 plus $12/day utility charge. Our room - aside from the view - was nice for 1985 - but comfortable the bathroom was a little better, maybe 1995. The place is very clean but needs to be renovated. The place is pretty small. The restaurant is just OK but tres cher, as they say in these .. parts. The Island. While I’d give the resort 3 1/2 stars I’d give the island 4. People couldn’t be nicer. The views are incredible and the water beautiful and clear, so much nicer than say, Aruba. Everything is 15-30 minutes away. We went to Mullett Bay and Orient Bay. Both a little busy but beautiful. And took a day trip to Anguilla where the beach was even prettier, and was much less crowded but there is little to do but sit on the beach. We were going to take the trip to St Barth but my wife was too afraid of getting sea sick on way there. She regrets it now. We ended up spending three nights at Grand-Case on the Northwest corner of the Island . Cute little town with incredible French restaurants. Also very expensive but hey you’re on vacation. Great food. Try Ocean 82 or Nice SXM. BTW the French supermarkets here are stocked and reasonable. If you stay here you can take care of all you breakfast and lunch need, plus head to French bakery for baggettes or croissants there a little store on site with limited selection but convenient on the walk to the beach where there is a bar looking at at the ocean.
Average hotel experience
A very typical place for retired Americans (and a few others) - not a very fun place for young, nor middle-aged. Rather pushy when it comes to convincing you Timeshare is the(!) thing… Had a dialogue on email prior to our arrival where we asked for help to book a rental car; no reply, even when we repeatedly asked for help, no reply - and upon arrival… no car. Also, be aware; there will be different vendors presenting their offerings, such as boat trips. If you book through the hotel, they charge you a 20% fee! Book directly with the vendors! Good convenient store on site; lovely fresh croissants and baguettes every morning. Typical hotel restaurants with equally typical prices and quality.
Don’t book this terrible place!
This is probably the worst resort we have stayed at. Our room was located above the bar and therefore I didn’t sleep for 2 nights. When I inquired about changing rooms I was told that they were full. This is was a lie, as a person in our party was immediately relocated. We advanced booked a dinner reservation yet were only allowed a buffet. The service was terrible and the check in staff were rude. The hotel is old and tired! A $3 was charged for bottled water in the room, however the lids were cracked and obviously replenished. DONT STAY HERE,
Good and bad
The physical Resort is nice, the rooms were comfortable and clean. The staff was half and half: half were helpful and enjoyable to work with the other half were disinterested, didn't want to be bothered and sometimes rude. The pool was lovely however entirely too small for the amount of rooms that they have. It was a constant struggle to find a location for all of us to sit together. The people who own timeshares there definitely get treated differently than people just visiting. We do not plan to return.
Perfect for a pre-cruise stay!
I booked 8 rooms for a 1-night pre-cruise stay, based on recommendations from Windstar. All of the rooms were very nice, with many amenities: King bed, large bathroom, separate sitting and dining areas, small kitchen w/ coffee maker, and a small balcony. Some of our travelers were single women who previously did not know each other, so they were taken aback because there were no available rooms with separate beds. This was an oversight on my part, and my guests were very understanding. The service at the bar and restaurant was very good, The breakfast buffet was a bit expensive @ $25, but there is a separate restaurant w/ an a la carte menu. The pool area is very nicely decorated, w/ comfortable lounge chairs and tables w/ umbrellas.
Treated Rudely
Stay with my family in January the rooms are very nice and comfortable. I traded through interval, and it seems like I ran into this before. If you’re an owner, you’re treated differently than if you are trading . The girl Lucy around the pool was extremely bossy and snotty to us but the people I know were owners there. She was very sweet sitting on there chairs chitchatting having a good time.. The maids were awesome took very good care of us, very polite, and kind. I have no plans of ever going back there not just due to the way I was treated but also there’s so far away from everything. Their prices are quite high also.
Resevation Staff / Timeshare
The reservation staff members that deal with timeshare exchanges are incredibly rude. Let me repeat myself, INCREDIBLY RUDE! I have talked with three different people, all of whom behave as if your call is an annoyance and have little patience in answering your questions. Maybe if they should consider allowing the timeshare deposit or booking to be done online it would be a better experience.
