It’s been 4 1/2 years since we came for dinner. This time we got to dine in the back garden (it’s closed last time due to rain). The cocktails (lavender, rosemary and rhubarb) set us in the mood. Knowing that the portions tended to be small, we ordered all the snacks and plates (except the liver mousse eclairs) on the menu including double orders of corn bread and Crab Rangoon for six of us. The delicious corn bread with honey truffle butter was a crowd pleaser. The crab Rangoon served in a Chinese takeout container was tasty. We barely got a morsel of dainty carrot crepe and minuscule clams. Tiny samples of the other snacks/plates including yellow wax beans, spaetzle, squash som tum, and lobster crackers that came in quick succession, found nothing spectacular. Then there was a long interlude before the mains arrived Of the entrees the roasted duck confit was superb: tender, juicy and flavorful. The scallops tasted very fresh. The tomato schnitzel would have been great if the crust/tomato could be crispier. The froyo dessert and shortcake were satisfactory. Our dinner spanned 2 1/2 hours. Good thing we came armed with bug repellent that made us impervious to becoming insect feast on this summer night. Pippa our server provided excellent service.
