Odd Duck is our families stomping ground and watering hole.
Missy is our fav server who is always willing to make our day, Willem (sorry if I'm spelling wrong!!) is an excellent bartender who always makes the perfect Nice Bryce. I'm a pescatarian and my partner eats everything, and we both adore this place and feel we can both eat and be merry. The setting is perfect for friends, alone time at the bar, a date, or a business dinner. I try and spend every special occasion of ours here. I bought all of the almanacs and am forever an Odd Duck. We love y'all. Your restaurant has made Austin feel like home.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a short trip to Austin and decided to try this place
We had a short trip to Austin and decided to try this place because we had a lot of recommendations. Unfortunately it did not live up to the hype that we received. We appreciated the fact that everything was locally sourced and we were supporting local businesses, but we were not impressed at all. One of their most popular items was the cornbread dish. It wasn't anything spectacular. Just an average cornbread. We also had the stuffed quail. Again, just an average quail; nothing to cry home about. Lastly, we had the pork loins. It was a little above average. The meat was a bit tough, but everything else about the dish had a good flavor. Overall, the food was okay and a bit overpriced. Probably not coming back.

Every dish is amazing at this place - we came here when we were thinking of moving to Austin, and fell in love with the Chef, and everyone here. Highly recommend!

Excellent food and drinks here!! And a very cool, casual and clean vibe. I loved all the live plants for decor! My friend is vegetarian and they had a whole vegetarian friendly menu, which was so cool! We sat at the bar and our server was delightful. We ordered 4-5 dishes and were not disappointed by any of them! The cornbread with green onion butter, and the pasta with ground lamb were absolutely exquisite. They were two of my favorite things. The charred broccoli was also a superstar menu item! I definitely recommend trying this place and ordering all the things!Pro tip, plan ahead and make a reservation :)
Be the first to ReplyWent here last night for the first time.
I struggled between 3 and 4 stars on this one, but I went with 3 because at the end of the day, it's a place that I would maybe give another shot in the future, but I won't be in a hurry to return, and I wouldn't really be disappointed if I never ate here again. The menu apparently changes often, and ingredients are sourced locally. Our server was friendly, and she recommended 3-4 plates between the 2 of us for sharing. We ordered the ceviche, smoked oyster and kale dip, the capellini pasta, and the pork loin. The food was good and tasty, but the portions were just too small. The $16 kale dip featured 3 of the tiniest oysters I've ever seen; we really had to search for them. It came with a chunk of pork skin, and even though we broke off tiny pieces of the pork skin to use for dipping each time, it wasn't enough to get all of the dip remaining in the plate, and again, it wasn't much dip. The ceviche was served in a small bowl pushed off to the side, with some 4 or 5 potato chips placed on top. My date and I laughed at the size of this $18 ceviche. The server recommended crushing the potato chips and mixing it in. Between the two of us, we each had 3 rather small bites of ceviche, and much of it was the crushed potato chips. The ceviche was fine, but nothing to write home about. The $21 pasta very tasty but again a rather small portion, though thankfully it was more than 3 bites of food each. After we finished these 3 courses, there was a rather large gap in time while we waited for our pork loin. Our server came to inform us that it was last call for savory courses. We were still very hungry at this point, but ultimately just decided to stick with the one remaining dish, and just order a dessert afterwards. The $37 pork loin dish was a larger portion and prepared well other than some large chunks of fat left on a few of the sliced pieces. They were accompanied by tzatziki, crispy chick peas, beets and other pickled veggies. For dessert, we had the sunchoke blondie which was pretty good. These 5 items cost $113 with tax before tip and without drinks, and we really weren't that full when we left. And that's really my biggest gripe. At this price point, I need to leave either really full, or the food needs to blow me away. And I really can't say either about the food here. It was all pretty good and tasty, but it didn't fill me up, and it's severely overpriced for what it is. And I can think of lots of other places I'd rather spend my money on food.
Be the first to ReplyIt's hard to beat all the pluses of this restaurant.
The food was phenomenal and the staff was great but the waitress was the best! She was not hurried to explain the ordering style and all the questions we had about the food ingredients. I wanted to enjoy local distillery beverages with my dinner as provided from local farm suppliers. I was so blown away by the most intriguing beverage from Just Austin Bourbon Old Fashioned which enhanced my meal, and topped of perfectly with Austin Winery Just Picpoul white wine. I didn't know what I wanted but the waitress helped me sort it out and I'm so pleased she took the time to describe the beverages because they complemented the meal very well.We started off with the Mushroom Tamal which was fantastic and then the Charred Broccoli which I have to try to duplicate, it was so scrumptious. Then we had the cornbread which i have not experienced in taste or texture with all the wonderful flavor of the Barton Springs Mill corn flour and herbal butter. The Pork Loin and Glazed Short Rib were not to be in competition as they were both so delightful on their own. The Pork Loin with tzatziki and beets was such a delectable treat we all commented on how a chef could take humble ingredients and make them so special. The Glazed Short Ribs with raddish kimchi had a very subtle spicy aftertaste that was such a nice surprise. Our visit to Austin was so enhanced by the food and service offered by Odd Duck that we look forward to repeating our experience next time.

While visiting in Austin, my friend's nephew recommended this place and stated it was his favorite restaurant. The ambiance is casual and relaxed, and the staff is friendly, knowledgeable and happy to explain each item brought to your table. The menu changes monthly and the back of the menu explains this place the best. Odd Duck is "a place to share food, drink and hospitality shaped by our craftsman's approach to cooking, the culture of our city, the creativity of our staff, and the products from our amazing farmers."This farm-to-table restaurant hits all the right notes. The menu items are meant to be shared and they are much larger than tapas (and some could be a full meal for one person!) The three of us decided to share various items as follows. The Ceviche consisted of carrot leche de tigre, strawberry, radish and potato chips. The staff member that brought the plate to the table requested we crush the potato chips into the ceviche to enhance the flavor and he was spot on! It tasted heavenly. We next had the Grilled Kale Salad which was a mixture of fennel, citrus, sunchoke dukkah with shiitake ranch dressing. I've never tasted Kale salad so good, plus it was grilled! We complimented both items with the Cast Iron Cheddar Cornbread with green garlic butter - perfect combination with the ceviche and salad. For the main course items, we did the Stuffed Quail with crab XO rice, braised greens, beet BBQ, and fried chicken skin. It was small given it is quail and it wasn't my or his aunt's favorite, but the nephew raved about it and ate the majority of it himself. So, if you like quail.... The Aged Pork Loin was amazing and there was plenty of it to share. It came with tzatziki sauce, caramelized fennel, beets and fried chickpeas. It was delicious! Our final choice was the Chile beer glazed Short Rib with radish kimchi, sweet potato and peanuts. The meat was tender, juicy and easily fell apart. Needless to say, it was the table's all-around favorite. We even had several items boxed up to take home and all tasted just as good the next day.If you are visiting Ausitn, this definitely needs to be on your list of restaurants to try. In addition, if you want to pick up any souvenirs, $5 from all merchandise sales goes to the Central Texas Food Bank. So, you can have a great meal and support a local charity. What more encouragement do you need?
Be the first to ReplyPretty disappointing tbh.
Food was okay at best, there was no ambiance where we were seated (sort of indoor/outdoor extension), table was small chairs weren't comfortable, server was bored and inattentive. Bill was medium-high range. Wouldn't go again.

Be the first to ReplyDamn, this place consistently delivers.
Food is always on point; it's playful & creative, but more importantly, flavors are bold, fresh, & balanced. LOVE the ever-changing seasonal menu here. Don't be shy about sitting at the bar, where you'll truly have the best seat in the house. Tell your bartender what you like, & he'll make your night. Cheers!

Liked everything I ordered! My favorite was the boudin it was amazing. They're known for the cornbread and it was good but not life-changing. Did not like the flan dessert, definitely skippable. Enjoyed the short rib and the red fish was okay but also I think you only need the one entree.

Came here with a big party and therefore had a pre-fixed menu. I loved most of the dishes but for 15 people I felt like we just didn't have enough food? I basically got one or two bites of everything and that was it. I didn't love the pork - everyone felt the meat was too chewy. The short rib was good but the nuts in it just wasn't necessary. Ceviche excellent but the potato chips probably not the right call? Just kinda random. We had excellent service and was really happy about that since I wanted everyone to be happy. Overall, a nice place for a date when you want to spend a bit, maybe not for a big group.
Be the first to ReplyMy second visit to Odd Duck and it didn't disappoint.
All the dishes are well balanced, the flavors meshed. Charred broccoli super, mushroom tamal amazing, my husband wanted to lick the plate. Beer glazed short rib was outstanding. Service at the bar was friendly, informative, unpretentious and just plain old pleasant. I have traveled throughout the US & this place delivers. We can't wait to go back.
Be the first to ReplyI really like this place.
It's not a prefix menu so you can have a casual tapas meal with friends, but it's still great quality ingredients, fantastic drinks, and staff that make you feel like they are your friends immediately. I think this is a good balance between fine dining and the local speakeasy. It also has a great patio in back that is my favorite dining spot!Highly recommend, and not just for special occasions! That's what I always thought this place was but I'd definitely come back for a drink or friends night out too!

Absolutely delicious! The farm to table concept plus fair item prices makes this place fantastic. We ordered the following and it's ranked from our most to least fave (note: we LOVED everything):1. Wagyu burger2. Cheddar cornbread3. Melons & cucumbers4. Redfish ceviche

Barley Swine little brother restaurant at about half the price with similar amazing dishes!Didn't realize Odd Duck is from the same owners as Barley Swine which is a more upscale restaurant. Everything is seasonal so you can expect an rotating menu per season. We went in summer and the menu was filled with fresh and sweet peaches. We ordered the ceviche and cornbread as starters. Our main dishes were the scallops and wagyu top cap. Lastly, finished off with the peach cobbler for dessert. Everything was delicious and had a punches of flavor with fresh ingredients. The only disappointment is the wagyu sirloin cap didn't have a fat cap which I was expecting. And the wagyu is more so American wagyu not the Japanese style wagyu, so the fat cap would have been nice to have. Overall the atmosphere and friendly staff were a nice bonus to our meal as well!
Be the first to ReplyFood was amazing.
..favorites include red fish ceviche, seared scallops and peach cobbler for dessert. Ambiance and service (Robert et al) were excellent. Looking forward to our next visit, will be sampling other menu offerings.
Be the first to ReplyBest restaurant I've been to in Austin.
We got the burger, the steak bites and cornbread. Will be going back 10/10

I had such a great experience here I can't wait to go back and try everything on their menu!!! The fish and bone marrow were incredible. Their specials are always great too.

The menu, service, location, presentation, flavor and vibe are all 5 star. The Odd Duck has a unique menu and will not disappoint. They are a perfect choice before a concert, ball game or a nice night out. I am so happy I discovered this gem.
Be the first to ReplySo fun! Loved the farm to table menu and the vibe.
Could use a few more vegan options but I enjoyed the beets! It's was quirky and fun and the staff was great. Service was a touch slow but it wasn't a big problem. It was clean and parking was easy. Good for a date night.

Service is absolutely 5 Stars! Our server, Missy, was amazing and made sure that everything we ordered was allergy-free and had great recommendations. The only drawback was was that we felt some dishes were a bit overpriced with the portion sizes (especially for the three scallops that weren't sourced locally). All in all, a great experience, they even stamped the menu with happy birthday and we even got a free dessert for my boyfriend's birthday. The black sesame sundae with ancho brownies was phenomenal!
