Definitely go!
A beautiful dining too, a relaxong and very delicious meal! Three couples, celebrating a birthday in a lovely semi-private dining room. Excellent service ( w/ one small blip~ had bread and butter plates/knives, had to ask for bread after apps were served and with an apology the delicious homemade focaccia appeared quickly with wonderful olive oil and butter in a flash!). Our sommelier made great recommendations and our server was friendly and knowledgeable. Apps at the table included wonderful sushi rolls, Union Square farmers mkt. salad~ so fresh, tasty (and huge!), and yummy. cream of mushroom soup. We loved them all as well as the entrees that followed. Dinners included melt-in-your-mouth short ribs , and perfectly prepared lobster roll, Farro Island salmon and black cod. MY very favorite~ excellent seasonal sautéed soft shell crabs …I all but licked the plate clean! Truffle fries, an afterthought, quickly disappeared. Service was attentive but not intrusive. Our desserts included Banoffee pie ( think banana cream with a toffee twist), warm donuts with chocolate and raspberry dipping sauce, and cheesecake with grilled pineapple and passion fruit sorbet…. Excellent, sampled by all and the cheesecake was our grp. favorite. Highly recommend Oceans!

We celebrated a special occasion dining at Oceans and it was an amazing dinner. Nice decoration and vibe, tasty food and decently priced.
Be the first to ReplyWonderful Seafood near Union Square
Wonderful high-end seafood and sushi restaurant, with a great wine list. The layout, atmosphere and service are all great. The food even better! We shared a Seafood tower as an appetizer and then had Entrees (to include the Sole and the Hawaiian Walu). Everything was perfect. A lovely evening and we'll return.
Be the first to ReplyA Beautiful Seatfood restaurant that will leave you disappointed!
Oceans Restaurant lists itself as a fine dining, locally and globally inspired seafood restaurant. It is located on prestigious Park Avenue around the corner from Union Square in New York City. You enter a beautiful restaurant with white linen service and 'Oceans' monogramed napkins. Everything feels like quality and sets high expectations. We were greeted by 3 very friendly hosts at the door who quickly showed us to our seat. It was 6pm on a Sunday but there were not many people in the restaurant. Our server greeted us quickly and was kind enough to explain the specials of the evening, which sounded wonderful. There was a scallop appetizer with caviar that was piquing our interest. I am a martini drinker and I make no excuses about that. I do not drink them often but when I do, I am pretty meticulous about how they are made and more precisely about having 3 blue cheese olives in my dry Grey Goose Martini. Fine steak and seafood restaurants always have blue cheese olives, it is expected. This restaurant had none and seemed hardly apologetic about it at all. This may seem trivial to some but to me it is very important. My experience is that when a fine restaurant does not have blue cheese olives for a staple drink like a classic martini that likely I will wind up disappointed. We decided to order different drinks, I had an old fashion, which was average. The other drink was also nothing to get excited over. We decided to leave as the dinner experience was spoiled for us at that point. When you plan to spend a few hundred dollars on dinner you have certain expectations and as a frequent fine diner I have learned to pick up on certain clues and it's ok when you lose the good feeling you had when you go into a restaurant to leave for somewhere else to cut your losses. I will be rating this restaurant based on the drinks we did order, which were 3-star at best.

Superb food with an excellent menu. We went to celebrate a birthday and were treated with wonderful service by Jorge. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyPlastic in the Sushi
While there is a 300 mile island of plastic in the pacific ocean. There is also plastic in the sushi at Oceans. Would recommend going elsewhere for fish in the city. Picture of the clothes tag that was in my sushi roll is included below. Update: Spoke to Ocean's Vice President of operations about the piece of plastic in the sushi. Reportedly the chefs were given new chef coats and the tag "unfortunately" went from the jacket into the food. This raises two concerns: chefs who are allegedly able to do fine knife work can't competently cut off a label; and the second of which they are so negligent that they allowed the plastic from the tag to then mix into the food that they were serving. Overall a truly disgusting dining experience.

Be the first to ReplySo glad my friend recommended this place
A group of old friends met at Oceans for dinner on a Sunday night and had a wonderful experience. While the company was very special, as we hadn't seen one another in a long time, the restaurant only enhanced our evening. The design of the main dining room is beautiful and very creative, with large sweeping arches and a wonderful mixture of materials and textures. Service is impeccable. As my friend put it, the staff serves and clears the table without your even being aware they were there. And our main server, Corey, was very welcoming, helpful, and efficient. And then there's the food! Everything we ordered, which was quite a lot, was excellent. For example, I've had ceviche at several restaurants around the world and this ranked at the top of the list. Grilled octopus was the best I've ever had. Sushi rolls - top notch. Salmon - can I have the recipe? Tuna tartar - excellent (and so many places mess this up). I must add that, unlike many fine dining restaurants (Oceans' prices are par for Manhattan), the ambiance is warm and relaxing, not stuffy or pretentious. You can dress up or not as you wish.
Be the first to ReplyReally great food and good staff
We visited for dinner and had sushi to start followed by halibut. We hadn’t made a reservation and they fitted us in although the restaurant was very busy. The fish was beautifully cooked and the sushi very good. If I was being slightly critical I would say the rice on the nigiri was quite a small portion but that would be really picky. They dealt with our dietary requirements very well and it was a lovely meal.

This was our first visit here and it was outstanding. I loved the elegant ambiance and the great bar. We were seated immediately and I must say the service here is the best that I have encountered anywhere. Our server was terrific and other members of staff were just as friendly and attentive. The black cod was delicious as was the little gem Caesar. My husband had sushi and a lobster roll. Wines by the glass are reasonable with a good selection. I would recommend this restaurant highly and can’t wait to go again.

What a surprise. A fish restaurant that serves good food from the land. Not only was there a excellent black bass, but a very good filet mignon with mashed potatoes and broccolini. Starters such as the mushroom soup and salad were good too. One can order a whole fish and have it prepared however you like (sushi, sashimi, cooked various ways, etc.). The restaurant is comfortable with a beautiful bar (really two bars) and plenty of space for events, both small and large. Service was prompt, friendly and helpful and the restaurant ran like clockwork and unobtrusive -- no long waits to be seated, served or attended to in any way. Cocktails were another high point with some very interesting selections to choose from. There is also a comprehensive wine and sake list.

Visited for dinner as a solo traveller and had the most wonderful experience. The restaurant has a lovely vibe and the service is impeccable. I had the sushi roll, shrimp and oysters, all nicely presented and delicious tasting. Would recommend and will be back!

The seafood was fresh and deliciously prepared. The sushi was especially good. Save room for the bread because it is some of the best that I have had.

For my "big" birthday this week, my eldest son and his lovely wife took me and my husband to Oceans for dinner. We were joined by one of their sons.
I am a native New Yorker and have been to the finest restaurants here and abroad, but have never had such fresh, delicious food, beautifully served, by a very attentive staff. Everything we had was in a generous portion and every bit was eaten with relish.
I am a shellfish lover, and instead of an appetizer and entree, I ordered the appetizer for two, which had 6 oysters, 6 shrimp, tuna sushi, ceviche, two other items and 1/2 steamed lobster. There was so much, that I took the lobster home.
My grandson had short-ribs, my son had steak, my daughter-in-law had a huge salad and my husband, who doesn't usually care for fish, ordered Dover Sole. He is usually a small eater, never orders fish out, but ate every last bit of the Sole, and is still raving about it!
When I asked where the restrooms were, one of the hostesses personally escorted me. Everything was FANtastic and the place is beautiful! The service, food and atmosphere cannot be beat!
Great addition to the seafood scene in NYC.
This Seattle based restaurant is a welcomed addition to the NYC collection of seafood restaurants. We ordered a great deal of food. The sushi and the rolls are all fine, but nothing out of the ordinary for the city. The seafood towers/platters (oysters, jumbo shrimp, ceviche, peekytoe crab, sashimi) were also well presented and pristine. We thought the dish named Tsunami (torched hamachi) and the whole fish sashimi took the food to a different level however. We did a whole fish red snapper sashimi (excellent presentation) and a half fish Corvina sashimi (the other half was grilled as a main course.) Fabulous and addictive!!!!1 The Dover Sole and a special seafood risotto were excellent. Loved the cocktails, a massive wine list, warm service and good looks of the place (modern, long bar, seafood/sushi bar and open kitchen. Loved the whole fish display.

First time at this restaurant and did not disappoint. Service and quality of food were impeccable. We tried the special and it was divine.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Fish Dish.
Our party had been to Oceans fish restaurant before and enjoyed their food. On this occasion, we shared the tuna tartare starter, which consisted of fresh tuna, avocado, tasty vinaigrette, Asian pear crisps and pine nuts. The pear crisps were ideal for scooping the tartare and ingredients. Very tasty, fresh and cleansed the palate in anticipation of the main course.
This was Dover sole with a butter sauce and Asian-style black cod with mashed potatoes and asparagus (sharing). The Dover sole is always a delight and probably their signature dish, so one to always try. The black cod was fresh, tender and had some great flavors. It was served with various vegetables. Again very tasty indeed.
The atmosphere was very good, even with social distancing. We sat in a very comfortable booth, discussing how open plan the kitchen was, which gave reassurance and transparency of the cooking process.
Our server was excellent. He was very attentive and our table never had to request anything a second time.
Overall, a very good dining experience.
Delicious, fresh, and creative
We had a wonderful birthday/anniversary dinner outdoors at this relatively new restaurant to New York. As the name suggests, they focus on seafood and they do it very well. They appear to source their seafood from all over, particularly west coast since their parent entity is based in Vancouver. We had a delicious sushi roll with peekytoe crab, seared salmon, and truffle oil that was very flavorful. Also an appetizer of a Spanish prawn and a crab cake appetizer, both well made. For our entrees the Alaskan black cod and the Hawaiian Walu (never heard of it before) were terrific. For Covid, they had outdoor seating with space heaters that kept us very comfortable. And all the staff wqs so friendly and helpful that the evening was special. The wine list is extensive so if you you are into wine, you may want to look it over on line first, but they also have a sommellier, even in these difficult times, who can help. Couldn't have been happier.
Be the first to ReplyGreat Meal
This was a great meal with excellent service. My wife and I went for Valentine's day so we went a little overboard so it was also one of the most expensive meals as well but it was well worth it. We started at the bar before dinner with a few cocktails that were excellent then moved on to dinner with a seafood plateau and added a couple of crab claws and a bottle of wine. Then I had a whole fish, the Dorad. It was cooked perfectly. my wife had the Dover soul with brown butter and loved it. We finished with the donuts for desert and some limoncello. The food and the service were over the top. I would highly recommend for a special night.

We enjoyed the food, the ambience, the service. We all had different kinds of fish and all were delicious.
The sushi at the beginning was very very good.
5 Star Dining at its best
This place is absolutely amazing. It was crowded but we only waited five minutes for our table. Staff was efficient and attentive. Our waiter was a pro and patiently walked all of us through the menu, gave us time and then returned to take our order. I had the ribeye which was excellent. I also ordered the asparagus and mashed potatoes. Everything was delectable. My buddy had the Branzino which was a show stopper. It was brought out in a huge silver pan and everyone at the table sampled it. My wife had the King Crab. The drinks were superb and the chocolate molten cake and expresso were perfect desserts to end the evening. Pricey but well worth it. A true 5 star dining experience
Be the first to ReplyAmazing Food - Service Still Needs Work
They have only been open since November, so I will give them some leeway on the service issues we experienced. The good - Beautiful space. Great music. They definitely had someone work with them on soundproofing - i.e. a lot of hard surfaces, but still easy to talk. The food was amazing. We shared numerous things and everything was delicious. First course: Tsunami and Toro Tartare. Second course: Alaskan King Crab and Maryland Crab Cake. Third course: Rocketman roll. The bad - The service was marginal at best. Attention to detail in more than a few places is still lacking. Would definitely go back and try again in a few months.
