This has been our favorite dining experience in Marseille
This has been our favorite dining experience in Marseille thus far (and I really think it will be difficult to top)! There are about 10 tables inside and we were lucky enough to sit right next to the kitchen and speak with the owner & chef Bazin Fabrice. You can see that Bazin truly loves food, the hard work and dedication shows in his dishes! Bazin has had many years of culinary study, including time spent at a 2 star rated michelin restaurant! The menu is limited with 2 options for starters (crispy cheese or blue cheese) & 2 options for entrees (fish or pork chop) & 2 desserts (chocolate mousse or apple crisp). We ordered the crispy cheese + both entrees + chocolate mousse and it was all PHENOMENAL. If anyone ever has a chance to visit Marseille, DO NOT miss this hole in the wall - so yummy and truly French!

You just have to admire the one-man-army running this small restaurant. Serving and cooking at the same time while still getting the food just right, not overcooking the fish or ending up with a well-done steak, that does take some skill and a well-coordinated mind. I guess it helps that the number of seats and different options on the menu are limited. We went here for lunch on a Saturday and just managed to get the last available table just after 1pm. So it's definitely a popular place, which I really do get. The food and wine is good, service friendly and the atmosphere very down-to-earth. I do however not think that the food is extraordinary. Don't get me wrong. Our starter; a fish rilette and salad, and our main; fish, polenta and peas, were all good and prepared well. It was just not more than a nice lunch.

It has 16 seats and is run by one person (chef and waiter!). When we as weary travelers stepped in his door, he said the restaurant was completely booked. But since none of the guests had arrived, we convinced him that we would eat quickly and leave. I ordered steak, with pan-fried asparagus (with some bacon) and wheat risotto. My friend had fish, seared half baby lettuce, and wheat risotto. The flavors were amazing and the dish well garnished. I'd say it's worth 25 euros, but the price is only 13 euros per dish! The guy is a master chef! Make sure you make a reservation (or go early and convince him like we did)!
