Beautiful dive, great guide!
I was lucky enough recently to go on a dive with Julian at La Jolla Cove. As a newer diver it was great to have someone so knowledgeable. The equipment was out for everyone, and he gave us a quick refresher on everything. We always felt safe and relaxed, he communicated expectations clearly. We had a great dive! He definitely knows his local wildlife too, we saw sea lions, horn sharks, garibaldi, sardines, kelp, kelpfish. I definitely hope to dive with you again!

We had a blast! Julian was an exceptional guide/dive lead, and my daughter and I had an amazing time. Everything was organized, timely and always focused on safety and enjoyment! I would highly recommend La Jolla Dive to anyone interested in diving in the San Diego area. We will be back!! Thank you again!! -Clinton and Zoë

We were lucky to dive with sea lions during our La Jolla dive which made it an amazing experience. Can only recommend this dive spot.

A fantastic diving tour in La Jolla shore, seeing some amazing creatures down there. And Rick is super friendly! Thank you.

Paid $180 for 1/2 a tank. Should’ve called it before we went in. Talked down to me even tho I’m a DM
Be the first to ReplyNice dives in Jolla cove
I did 2 nice dives in Jolla cove with Julian from Jolla Dive shop Julian was very knowledgeable and paid a lot attention to details that can make a dive go wrong. He was friendly and very helpful. Though I am an experienced diver ( Divemaster) it was a long time I have done a shore dive in cold water with some surf…I really appreciated Julian help and guidance.

Outstanding service and very convenient to diving La Jolla cove. Chris had everything I needed covered to dive and Rick was the best dive master. Chris kindly answered my many questions before the dive day. He worked to get everything set up and ready to go ahead of time. The shop met all my aire and equipment needs. Rick has a very casual diving style, but a very keen eye for each diver's needs. He was quick to note any equipment configuration concerns and clearly stated the dive plan as well as answered all questions. The dive went smoothly as he guided me through the cove. We had an excellent experience around 90 feet and popped up very close to the shore for a short swim back. Outstanding day.

I had a great time with La Jolla Dive and our dive guide/instructor Julian. It was a fun, relaxed, and overall a very enjoyable experience.
Be the first to ReplyGreat diving experience with Julian at La Jolla Dive
Julian was a fantastic guide. He is very personable, knowledgeable, and engaged. I felt very safe with him and was well equipped for the conditions. Difficult conditions that day but saw lots of sea life- octopus, lobsters, etc. Would definitely recommend this dive shop.

Great day diving the canyon with Rick of La Jolla Dive. Rick was very knowledgeable and thorough, knew the area inside and out, and had a huge amount of interesting information on the local sea creatures and the area in general. I felt very lucky to have had Rick as my dive guide. Excellent day!!!

I did “La Jolla Cove” dive this past weekend. I was alone with the guide Brandon. I’m from Spain and all the units to dive there are different, he had lot of patience to explain me how it works here. Good briefing about the dive and animal wildlife. Freaked out with the help forest, and we saw a Giant Black Seabass and my first shark ever (Tope shark), also nudibranchs, lobster, garibaldis… soo cool. Can’t be happier with the experience. The beaches there are perfect to rest after the dive.

Decided to fit in a one tank shore dive the day of the wedding we were in town for. Couldn’t have asked for a better run dive operation. Dive master was great. Rented gear was all in great condition. Dive conditions were awesome

It was easy to schedule our 2 tank dive in La Jolla Cove with our dive master Kenley. He is amazing, chill, expert with a wealth of knowledge. He gave me , a newly certified open diver so many tips on buoyancy. Everyone can learn from him whether you have 5 dives or 500. He prioritizes a great experience for you, rather than just time. For example, he recommended that we do our two dives in the cove, rather than picking up and heading over to the La Jolla canyon and battle for parking. (La Jolla traffic & parking can be a nightmare in the summer). He knows the dive site very well and he got there early to reserve a prime spot for our gear. Our dive was at 8am but definitely recommend getting there by 7am for decent parking, especially in the summer. We saw sea lions swimming around us, plenty of lobsters & garibaldi, sheephead, kelp bass, eel, 2 horned sharks, rock wrasse and zebra perch.

Tiffany was a great guide for me and my grandson. We were thrilled with the sea creatures we saw....7 gill shark, sea bass and octopi, plus all the canyon creatures. We were always well cared for, and guided expertly through each dive...Thanks again to all the staff at La Jolla Dive for making our trip a great dive vacation.

La Jolla Dive provided a safe and well planned dive. I appreciated the attention to detail and importance placed on safety. The dive master, Liam, was great.

Peter was an excellent and gracious guide. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Great dives and excellent staff. We dived La Jolla Cove and Canyon. We rented gear from the shop and it was in excellent condition.
Be the first to ReplyWhat a fantastic dive shop full of great people!
We just finished up our OW Cert a couple of weeks ago and flew down to San Diego/La Jolla for a weekend of snorkeling and scuba. We started with a snorkeling excursion with Kenley which turned out better than we could have imagined. He knew exactly where to take us to see the most ocean life. We saw multiple species of shark, sting rays, a dozen different fish species, lobster and so much more. It was incredible and really set the tone for the weekend.
The next day was a scuba trip with Peter. We were initially scheduled for the cove, but it was looking to be a difficult dive, especially being our first outside of the class. We made the decision to pivot to the canyon which turned out amazingly as well. Peter was patient and extremely knowledgeable. Despite it being a bit of a learning experience for us, we were able to have a successful dive and see an absolute ton of sea life again including nudibranchs, decorator crab, and a hungry octopus.
We had a little bit of time before we flew back home the next morning and called Chris to see if we could arrange some wetsuits to go back out snorkeling. He was extremely accommodating and although the water was a bit more rough than the previous excursion, we were able to see multiple fish species, stingrays and even had an up-close swim-by of a leopard shark.
We will absolutely be back to La Jolla Dive and are still ecstatic over our experience with the entire shop.
Peter was Amazing!
Peter was great dive guide, he had everything ready for us and helped with everything, even assembled all the equipment. He was super knowledgeable about the marine life in the area and was able to answer all my questions. I also had a little freakout while we were at about 40 ft when my reg started spewing air and bubbles for no reason, but he helped me fix it and helped me calm down afterwards. My only complaint about the experience is that I called several times the day before the dive to ask some questions but no one answered, even though I checked that the shop was open during those hours. Other than that everything was great!
Be the first to ReplyLa Jolla Dive great again!
Good fun patient dive masters, very friendly, good communication (text & phone) on the day of the dive.
Be the first to ReplyCold but great dive in La Jolla!
I originally booked a dive in La Jolla Cove, but due to conditions, we changed to the Canyon. Kenley did a great job of guiding me out and giving a good outlook of what to expect. The dive was great, although extremely cold, which will definitely make it one to remember.
Be the first to ReplyLiam was an amazing instructor despite challenging conditions!
While I wouldn’t rate this dive five stars, I definitely rate my instructor five stars! I am open water certified and have about ten dives under my belt — all of my previous dives were in tropical climates.
This was my first time doing a cold water dive and first time diving in California. Liam called me the day before the dive to prep me, and thank goodness he did! Turns out a California shore dive is no joke for a novice like me. If he hadn’t mentally prepared me for the cold, the tough waves, the strong current, and the murky water, I think I would have been miserable.
While the conditions made this far from my best dive, I was grateful for Liam’s candor about what to expect and his attentiveness to helping me conquer a new type of dive! Instead of being miserable or scared away by the experience, Liam set me up to walk away feeling just a little more competent at learning to be a better diver.
Thank you, Liam!
Cool divespot but huge rush
We booked a two dives with La Jolla Dive and met Kinley at the first Dive Spot La Jolla Cove. He brough all the equipment, everything was fitting perfect and prepared to start right away. We got dressed and walked about 300 ft to the shore. Predive instructions were pretty short and inclued barely the necessary details.
However, his tips how to deal with the waves were were good.
First divespot in the kelp forests was amazing, yet divetime was a bit short (30ft but in total 35 min, as all of our group had enough air left we would have enjoyed a little bit more underwater time).
After that we got back to the shore we helped putting the equipment in Kinleys car who drove the stuff to the second dive spot. However, we were not told prior that we have to get there by ourselves and did not have a car available. Luckily for us, the third member of our party this morning had a car availiable, otherwise we would be stuck there (since I assume no Uber will pick up guys in wetsuits). We would assume to be told such crucial information in advance!
The second divespot was La Jolla Shores, we dove into the canyon (38 min, 88ft) which was an interesting divespot, only littel wildlife and prette cold (53°F) - in genereal ok for once but I would not go there a second time. There are cold showers available at the public beach.
After coming back to the shore, we got undressed and Kinley left with all the equipment.
He told us to sent us the detailed information about our dive via email, but forgot to do so. (The information above are from the third member of our party who had a dive computer).
In general good organized beside unexpected and uninformed the car driving inbetween but we had the strong impression of a hughe rush. As mentioned predive instructions were short (barly any information about the wildlife there), we started right away and so was the inter dive travelling - put all in the car as fast as possible, meet again and start again right away. As well as that he left so shortly after the dive without giving e.g. the logbook information.
So overall impression ok, safety was not a concern, kelp forests are totaly worth to be ckeced out, but overall it felt a little bit more like quick business than beeing a nice experience and taken time for.
Great diving and great guidance!
La Jolla Dive was knowledgeable, helpful, and guided two great dives! Marcel and Chris took great care of us — provided the gear we needed, prepared us for the dives, and showed us the beauty of La Jolla Canyon. Highly recommend using them for future guided dives in San Diego!
Be the first to ReplyGreat dive, lousy customer service
The dive was great, instructor was amazing. But he recommended we not do the night dive as it was quite cold, and we agreed. Unfortunately, we never got a refund.
I appreciate tourism businesses had a very hard time during the pandemic, and when I called they did say they had given me a credit. But what really irked me was the attitude, and also that prior to my call I had sent a couple of emails that were ignored.
If anyone would like to use my credit, please let me know, as I live far away from San Diego. Again, I want to emphasize that the dive itself and the instructor were great. But customer attitude could use some upgrading.
