North Pond Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
This was our first time at North Pond and it is safe to say
This was our first time at North Pond and it is safe to say we left feeling incredibly impressed. North Pond is legit an absolute gem. It's a culinary sanctuary nestled in the heart of nature's embrace, hidden in the middle of Chicago. From the moment we stepped through its doors, we were enveloped in an atmosphere of warmth and genuine hospitality. The staff's attention to detail was nothing short of extraordinary, from accommodating our reservation change with ease to the heartfelt acknowledgment of our anniversary. We thought we knew fine dining. But, we were wrong. Every single course was a highlight, leaving us unable to pick just one favorite. Every single course was an experience. Let me be clear - we were shook.. hell, we CRIED! No hyperbole here... we each had a moment when savoring our meal where we each got a little teary eyed! That's how impactful and transcendent the experience was. From the moment we were greeted with complimentary drinks and amuse-bouche to the unexpected flavors that followed, each course was a culinary revelation. As shocking as it may sound, the starter, a bread and allium butter deserve special mention - simple yet executed with such finesse that it became a highlight of our meal. And that was just starting us out. We were not let down by a single moment after that. The wine pairings were phenomenal. Every course was carefully considered, leaving us in awe of the culinary mastery on display. There was not a single moment where we felt disappointed. In a world where dining out can sometimes feel like a transaction, North Pond reminded us of the true essence of craftsmanship - a genuine desire to create moments of joy and connection through the medium of food. To the entire team at North Pond, we extend our heartfelt gratitude for an unforgettable dining experience. You've left an indelible mark on our hearts. You didn't just hit the mark, you created a whole new mark. It was an elevated experience we didn't know existed. And, we can't wait to return again, to see what else you have in store for us. Thank you!
I had brunch here on a sunny day and everything was amazing.
The front room is mostly windows and looks out over the park and pond. There were three choices for each of the three courses, which provided a pleasant opportunity for variety. My favorite item was actually the salad that came with the lobster puff pastry dish. It was the perfect bright counterbalance to the dish's richness. That poppyseed dressing was addictive. I really enjoyed everything I ate and there weren't any misses. The service was also impeccable - not rushed, but someone was always there the exact moment something was needed. And I loved all of the little touches like the small packet of heirloom lettuce seeds included with the bill. I basically spent a vacation weekend eating my way through some of the higher-rated restaurants in Chicago, and this is the one meal that really stood out.
A favorite and brunch request every time my family comes
A favorite and brunch request every time my family comes into town. Ambiance is 5+ with a winding walkway near the pond in Lincoln Park that's barely viewable from the road (and confuses many an Uber), prix fixe (3 course) seasonal brunch menu is awesome, service is excellent and they often bring tasty little bites in between courses. The only reason I rank it 4 instead of 5 is bc I don't love smoked trout spread (1st course werp farms salad), but the rest of my party would def rank ambiance/service/food a 5. So take mine with a grain of salt on this one :)
Impeccable food, service and ambiance.
I couldn't have picked a lovelier place for my birthday celebration!
One of the best dishes of my life to date & a perfect anniversary meal
Had a wonderful anniversary meal one evening at North Pond. The walk to the restaurant through Lincoln Park was already setting the relaxed mood, and on arrival, service was authentically friendly and you could tell they really wanted you to enjoy their place. Extra attention to detail, like menu’s printed with our anniversary and names on, were extra special, and service was appropriately attentive all night. We were given a perfect table, by the window and fire which was warm, not too hot, and overlooking the North Pond, watching dog walkers pass by, it was lovely to watch the sunset change the city backdrop to twinkling lights from the comfort of our perfect table. Cocktails were master crafted by the friendly bar man, full of flavour, beautifully presented and strong. Freshly baked bread rolls had a delicate herb flavour, with a deep red, beetroot butter quenelle. We went for the 4-course tasting with a wine pairing too, with our server Gerald being extremely knowledgeable of the cuisine and the wine. Being in the restaurant trade, we asked lots of questions, which puts some servers on edge, but Gerald relished in sharing his equalled passion and extensive career in food and drink. I really like the fact that you’re allowed to pick your 4 courses from 3 different items per course, it shows real skill to juggle all this in the kitchen and is a real treat for the diner. My hat goes fully off to the chef’s ability to send dishes out as quickly and beautifully as if a set fixed tasting menu, but with an a la carte diners’ choice, that’s real skill at this standard of cuisine. The amuse bouche was a delicious caviar on a fried base with dried skin on the side which was beautifully light and puffed. I had Foie Gras Tangerine for first course, and this probably goes up there as one of the most memorable dishes of my life, it was perfectly crafted with a huge tangerine skin, halved, and then torched inside, gave a real added caramelised orange flavour to the dish, and it was just beautiful to look at and eat (see attached picture). At this point I was in heaven, they could have done nothing wrong (and they didn’t !). Rabbit for second course was some of the most delicate, soft meat I’ve ever eaten. Little remanence of game flavour, this was a delicious dish with the dill and salsa brava really lifting it up. Main was an even softer pinker Wagyu beef morsel with a delicious fried beignet on the side, again complimenting the meat. The coffee crumble was a flavour I didn’t know I needed so badly with meat and alongside the apple butter was a rich delicious dish of perfectly balanced fats and acids with a delicate sweetness and all the coffee and beef Unami-ness. Overall it was THE best meal we had in our 3 week USA holiday, it was just perfect thank you. If we’re ever in Chicago again we’ll be back.
I have to say, I found and booked a reservation for Sunday
I have to say, I found and booked a reservation for Sunday brunch here on a total whim, didn't read reviews or even look at photos, and was completely blown away! The service was impeccable, our server, Ryan, went above and beyond to ensure that we were taken care of, and the rest of the staff was the perfect balance of attentive without being ever present. No notes, and some of the best service I have ever received! The food was truly outstanding, despite the delicate flavors and beautiful plating, the portions were perfect, and coupled with one of their amazing cocktails, provide the fuel needed for a leisurely stroll through the parks after! Lastly the location itself and the ambiance of the craftsman style furnishings set to the picturesque backdrop of North Lake and downtown Chicago... *chef's kiss* the atmosphere is elegant, warm, inviting, and transports you to a different way of life! This place is absolutely a 10/10, and I guarantee I will be coming back here every time that I am in Chicago!
Best Michelin restaurant in Chicago.
We've done Ever and Alinea...they're fine. This is actually really amazing food, with decent portions, beautiful presentation and unpretentious. Service is amazing (shoutout to Jeff and Ryan) and overall just a wonderful fine dining experience that feels comfortable and worth it.
Lovely ambience located on the north side of the pond with
Lovely ambience located on the north side of the pond with cozy welcoming interior. We sat next to the lovely fireplace and could see the open kitchen and view the pond. The service was excellent. The best we have experienced in Chicago yet. Every individual was on point, very considerate & authentically genuine - so rare post pandemic to get this level of care. The food was spectacular in presentation, thoughtfulness and preparation. The pairings and recommendations for any allergies were well thought out beforehand and the staff accommodated all of our concerns. They were excellent with kids too and quickly getting the kids food out and adjusting serving times to accommodate.
This restaurant has been my favorite for many years.
Food is delicious and so creative without going over the top. Service and ambiance are always impeccable. Such a beautiful space.
The Best

We took our Mother here for her 70th birthday and she absolutely loved it. The Food, The Wine Pairing, and the setting all made for an incredibly memorable evening. I'd recommend this restaurant for special occasions -- and you will not be disappointed. Cheers.
North Pond surprised me with its dishes so consistently
North Pond surprised me with its dishes so consistently designed yet full of surprises and the staff were so well-trained that they were more like tour guides leading you through this impossible journey. The foie gras, tangerine was a peaceful starter. The sweetness of the tangerine and the richness of foie gras harmoniously combined - the sweetness stimulates your tastebuds for me to put the entire week behind while the rich foie gras butter wraps your tongue with the necessary and right dose of lubricants for the second course. The Pork, Pineapple then came in - carefully wrapped in what I would think are Lotus Leaves. The sauces and pineapple together made me believe I was in Hawaii. Dreamy texture overall. Slow-cooked pork kept the meat aroma and you have to DIY to find the right dose of sauces you want (peeling off the lotus leaves was my favorite sport of the night - it let me participate in the creation which I personally appreciate). Lobster tail simply killed it -reasonably chewy and fresh, and the sauce helped me finished the rest of my bread xd. Main course - striped bass. My goodness I loved the striped bass. Its crust and the entire steak of meat is everything I wish I could have in any fish I eat. The sauces, mostly chocolate but with a hint of what was in the appetizer, strikes me with a breeze in south Asian islands. It was gone so quickly it took a while for the kitchen to catch up. But no worries I had my cocktailThe Carrot, Yuzu calmed me down and put me to a mood where I can get back to my "ordinary" foods until the next time I'm here. And it gave me a beautiful instagram post as it simply looks so pretty! Shout out to Lis and the Chefs César, Laura, John and Sean for the amazing treat. And thanks for the customized chocolate for my special day. Made my day!
They deserve their Michelin star again
We had an amazing family meal here. The tasting menu was executed perfectly by their staff--highlights were the kampachi appetizer, the bread with squash butter, the Tasmanian trout entree, and the astounding dessert options, especially their banana/ginger choice or the cheese board. The only "miss" was the. truffle tart, which was a little muddy in its execution and taste. The atmosphere and service were also very very nice. We had a wonderful time, and this was the best fine dining experience we had in Chicago--highly recommend a visit.
Wonderful food and atmosphere!
I loved this place! The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated. The food is amazing! We added the optional lobster course, and I would highly recommend doing this. The entire experience was A-plus and made for some wonderful memories. If you have a chance, go experience North Pond!
Dining Delight
Welcoming environment. Staff was accommodating and responsive to feedback. Booking process was smooth. Personalized menu and treats to honor my birthday. Each course was beautifully presented and included items from their roof top garden, which you can tour. We purchased and enjoyed the wine pairings. Beautiful scenic location inside Lincoln Park with city views and accessible by bus.
Unique location for a special celebration
The restaurant is located in a beautiful Arts & Crafts building sited on the edge of Lincoln Park’s North Pond. The 4 course chef’s menu was a delight and every bite a taste treat. Great place for a special celebration.
Very nice experience in a great décor
Great location and décor. Excellent brunch. Good service. The art deco look puts out of time. The brunch is priced reasonably and the quality of food is very good. The quantity is enough for a lunch.
