Unquestionably the best French restaurant in Singapore
It felt like being in a restaurant in Paris with tables close together and surrounded by wine bottles! However it was all worth it as the food was amazingly good. We shared a pre-starter of squids cooked in butter and garlic, and paired very well with a glass of Chardonnay each. Then the 3-course tasting menu with choice of starter, main course and dessert. We chose the aged Angus beef tartare & Japanese egg and the linguine pasta with a large prawn and slice of Iberico pork ham. For the main courses, we had the Iberico black pork fillet and the Tasmanian rack of lamb - the doneness of both was perfect. Finally we chose a platter of French cheeses instead of desserts with a supplement of $18. Everything went well with a bottle of red wine from Provence of Shiraz & Cabernet grapes. Total cost was S$430.

Ridiculous staff who cancelled my reservation when I couldn't answer their call while I was working. Cowardly refused to pick up the phone after cancelling my reservation, and even went to lengths to disconnect their landline to avoid speaking to me.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding at its best, but some signs of stress
The pros: the food was (mostly) wonderful, the wine choices excellent, the cheese cart delicious, and the prices reasonable, considering the quality of the ingredients. The cons: the restaurant was completely packed, busy, and understaffed. As far as I could tell, three staff were covering the outside tables, bar tables, main room, and the chef's table. They mostly coped but even the kitchen was stressed. One of the entrees was no longer warm, and another entrée was not what was ordered. We let it go, as we didn't want to spent the time to send things back. Perhaps we should have. While I have visited Nicolas many times in the past and felt they deserved 5 stars, this was the least smooth and satisfactory experience.
Be the first to ReplyA nice surprise and a very pleasant casual dinner
You always need a local to guide you through the gems in the city... this may not be a restaurant that you will notice if you are just visiting Singapore. Kudos to my local contacts, I have the chance to taste this wonderful meal over some nice wine. I was told the chef /owner is from Burgundy and there is a choice of well diversified range of French wine. I particularly liked the lobster and there are a lot of appetisers to share... not to mention the daily special (it was squid for our night). Overall, I was very satisfied with the dining experience and I would recommend this to anyone who likes simple but high quality food at a reasonable/fair price (especially the wine).
Be the first to ReplyAmazing and Authentically French Cuisine
Nicholas Le Restaurant really caught my attention from the list of French restaurants that popped up on my search engine. I guess it's the menu, the charm of an intimate setting of the place and the passion the chef has for in his restaurant. And at here, I get to savour amazingly good and authentic French food. I love every dish of the Tasting Menu that is cooked to perfection, holds a myriad of subtle flavours and has dimension in textures. And Chef Nicholas even goes the extra mile to search through his stash of wines in the walk-in wine cellar and wine cooler to get one to pair with my meal. In fact, he does this for every wine-ordering patron in the restaurant. Now that is passion. So if here, order some wines for the personalised service of wine selection. Organic Hen Egg 'A La Coque' is perfect match with Iberico Ham. The smooth, half-boiled, jelly-like egg white, the runny, creamy egg yolk, the paper thin, slightly chewy, flavourful Iberico ham and the broth create a delicious juxtapose of complex flavours and textures. Even the bread here is good. The exterior is baked until super crispy while the interior is super fluffy. Vichyssoise Soup and Crunchy Pastilla of Obsiblue Prawns both blow me away with how delicious they are. As for the Scallop, it is very plump and succulent, the taste of ocean contained within the scallop. Pan Seared Otoro with Linguine and Clam Sauce looks simple, but the taste is complex and full of umami. In addition, the linguine is al dente 👍. Iberico Pork is so tender that it is unbelievable for pork steak. I love the variety of sauces, plus pan fried chopped garlic, to go with the pork. All are so good. Dessert is another fine example of good balance of flavours, such as sweetness and tanginess, nice play on textures between the chewiness, creaminess and fluffiness. A nice one to end the meal with. The interior of restaurant is of classic French style with red plush sofa, dark wooden furniture and hanging lamps. The place feels very intimate and cozy, perfect for a romantic date or a nice gathering with friends to enjoy good food. The open kitchen shows the chefs in action, which is cool. Service is outstanding: very professional, polite and knowledgeable about the food. The food here is really amazing, where the focus is on skilful preparation and right combination to bring out the best of the ingredients. I can't wait to be back again to enjoy authentic French food prepared with lots of passion. Thoughts: My favourite French Restaurant

Absolutely loved the service & food here. It’s no wonder the restaurant is on “MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View”. Nicolas himself would greet the guests, and the service staff, Jason & Rosario, are attentive, fast & efficient.
We visited Nicolas Le Restaurant to celebrate Valentine’s Day.
To start off, we asked for wine recommendations. Nicolas recommended a beautiful inexpensive wine to go with our dishes.
For starters, we ordered squid ink pasta with Hokkaido scallops as part of their starters, and it was amazing. The scallops were fresh & cooked to perfection with good quality butter.
It so happened that they were serving Pigeon as one of the main course for the day, and it tasted absolutely delicious! I’m a huge fan of foei gras. And I don’t know how the Chef did it, but the pigeon tasted so much like foei gras, if not better! Loved it!
Hubby ordered the Iberiko Pork & he was also just as impressed.
Before Dessert was served, they gave us Salted Chocolate Caramel chocolate. It was soo yummy!! To end our meal, delicious Tiramisu dessert that’s definitely better than places in Singapore.
Will definitely be back to support Nicolas & his team, and be recommending this place to all my friends & family members!
Outstanding Nicolas
Was invited for a CNY dinner at this restaurant. Quaint little place with about 30 pax seatings and therefore reservations is a must.
Simple value menu offering 2 choices with 3 course or 5 course chef’s recommendation (budget about $150 per person). We had the 5 course meal which came with a prawn starter, ravioli, pasta with pigeon and lamb, finishing off with either a cheese or chocolate dessert.
The hardworking chef who is the owner does almost everything from sommelier, server, cook and reception. This is typical of most French restaurant in smaller cities back home where the husband n wife runs the whole outfit.
The food presentation was acceptable and the taste was excellent. The wine selection is reasonably price and offered good choices too. Overall, highly recommended place but roadside parking is challenging but there is valet parking too.
Excellent French restaurant serving elegant and tasty food.
Chef is very talented and experienced. It is very interesting to watch him work in the open kitchen.
Great food with wonderful flavours.
Excellent wine list with as great range of half bottles which more restaurants should carry.
Chef is very friendly. The lady maitre d is very unfriendly and looks like she wishes to be anywhere but serving in a restaurant. Slightly spoiled a great evening. Shame.
just simply AMAZZING

We had dinner here on a weekday. Not too crowded. The food is tasty and prices are reasonable. The wines recommended to us were also good and not too expensive. Total bill was about $920 including a bottle of red and a bottle of white.

I visited here to celebrate my birthday last Saturday. This restaurant seems to exist more for the convenience of the chef and kitchen staff than that of its patrons. The menu is very limited, with a choice of four or five courses and only the main course offering any choice. The starters were small, with more emphasis on aesthetics than flavor. The mains were equally disappointing: my lamb was almost blue, the fish was under-seasoned, and the beef was underdone despite it having been ordered medium-well (my guest had to request this because he was not asked when ordering). The dessert was a small slice of cake – one of which had a single perfunctory candle for the birthday celebrant, which was delivered to the wrong member of the party.
Overall, this venue lacks soul and atmosphere. The service is unfashionably slow with far too much time between courses; this is especially unwelcome during COVID when most diners are keen to spend as little time in public spaces as possible. The final bill of $770 for a party of six disappointed diners also left an unpleasant aftertaste – and no discount was offered for the dishes which were sent back. I will certainly not be returning.
Disappointing meal
Nicholas had always been our goto restaurant for good wholesome French cuisine. So with great expectations we showed up for what we thought would be an exceptional evening.
We were greatly disappointed! The service was awful, dishes were served very slowly. Dishes were mediocre at best. Dessert was the worst. The chef was extremely stressed and under great pressure. We could see he was hardly coping. And he had raised his prices to a ridiculous level.
Charming French Restaurant
Small but charming French restaurant. Great service stuff. The food was sumptuous and wide selection of wine. Ordered half bottle of Rhône valley red wine and we had the Wagyu beef and lamb for main course. Both the wine and main course were excellent. The dessert - cheesecake was superb! Will visit again.

An excellent charming French restaurant in the heart of Chinatown in Singapore. Original and high quality cuisine at the level of one Michelin star at least. A shame that the Michelin inspectors have not considered giving it at least one star because it is fully deserving of it in my honest opinion. A very reliable and stalwart fixture in the local dining scene for the many serious foodies and winos in Singapore for many years . Being French, Nicolas understands wines in great depth and can spontaneously plan a fantastically appropriate menu around the wine theme chosen for the evening’s victuals. Had a recent large group dinner there which filled the restaurant to the brim ( with Laurent Ponsot and the Confrerie des Chevalier du Tastevin) and the food was truly outstanding and matched the Burgundian wines to perfection. Nicolas humbly said the food’s role was to showcase the wines and not outshine it, but I couldn’t help thinking how well they complimented each other that night so very perfectly that the pairing elevated each to an altogether higher level for both the food and the wines. It takes a chef with great insight and experience to do this. It’s been a long hiatus since I last dined there ( there are just so many outstanding and new restaurants in Singapore to try!) but I felt compelled to write this glowing review of Nicolas as the food was really so outstanding that evening (despite the large size of the group)....it was like coming back to an old long lost friend and lovingly rediscovering and reappreciating the genuine quality of French cuisine at its very best in a humble and somewhat homely atmosphere.
