Nella Pizza e Pasta Chicago Reviews from The Last Year
PIZZA'S! STRAIGHT OUT OF A HUGE RED BRICK OVEN! WITH
PIZZA'S! STRAIGHT OUT OF A HUGE RED BRICK OVEN! WITH VINO! Mom's Day with some of our kids and grands was a proper celebration. We shared four platters of salads including two calamari di fritti, five different pizzas (my favorite being BIANCO NERO with black truffle paté * mozzarella di bufala* grilled zucchini * porcini mushrooms* white truffle oil, scrumptious!) and wine. The dessert menu was tempting, but we were full. The service was excellent and the outside garden was a gorgeous setting on the blue sky 81* Chicago day. Thank you all at Nella's, We'll be back...
In a city where "pizza" means a casserole you have to eat
In a city where "pizza" means a casserole you have to eat with a knife and fork, it is such a relief to find a place that uses hand-tossed crust, fresh ingredients, and a brick-oven to make what is rightfully, legitimately worthy of being called pizza. But not just pizza, great pizza. The kind that makes you want to keep bringing your friends and family back so you can cross your arms and smile saying, "Wasn't I right?" The only thing I would say is don't order anything with mushrooms--they taste tinny--but everything else is amazing. Great salads, pastas, and don't get me started on the risotto! This is the place to go when celebrating with family or when you want to have a casual glass of wine over great food that won't break the bank. Please bring Nella to the north side of Chicago...I would go every week if it didn't take an hour to get there from my house, but as it stands we will go here whenever we actually want pizza.
Cute restaurant with a great vibe and good service.
I think the pizza here is super solid pizza for America but the pasta is honestly tastes okay kind of boring. Great pizza though! 4.5 star pizza and 5 star experience, 1.5 star pasta.
I used to like this place because it is one of the better
I used to like this place because it is one of the better restaurants in Hyde park. However, I had a really bad food poisoning here dining here last night. We ordered the pizza Caricciosa and Spaghetti Cartoccio. Just within 1-1.5 hour after I had dinner here, I developed a really bad stomachache and everything I saw was spinning. I lost balance and could not walk or stand by myself. I went to the ER immediately and felt better after I threw up. I have reported the event to the public health department. I don't know what causes this, might be the shellfish in the pasta. I wanted to let people here know that if you are planning to go to the restaurant recently, please be careful.
Food and service were great.
My friend and I had a reservation at 5:30 and arrived at 5:25 and got seated in the corner. The noise level was incredibly high as we could barely hear one another. We ordered drinks (4), salad, pizzza, dessert. Got our bill and paid at 6:30. I was about to call our wait person over to order a cappuccino but before I could, a manager (?) came over to us and the table next to us "Ladies I got a line out the door so let's go." We were stunned. We were there for a total of 70 minutes and booted out. Terrible.
Food was good.
Service was good. But restaurant needs to be honest and stop the 3.3% up charge nonsense. It is stupid. Just increase the price by 5% and no one would care.
Great for pizza! Great for risotto! Best pistachio
Great for pizza! Great for risotto! Best pistachio cheesecake. Friendly customer service
We came here for lunch after visiting the science museum.
We got here close to open so seating was easy. We ordered the calamari to start and got the spinach pizza, the bolognese pasta, the chicken sandwich, and the provolone + prosciutto sandwich (for me) with a side salad. The pizza, the pasta, and my sandwich were very nice. I loved the simplicity of my salad. The pizza had a very nice dough and the simplicity of the pizza was nice. My in-laws shared the chicken sandwich and said it was a bit bland and a bit dry like it needed a pesto or a mayo to help it out. Our server was very nice and took care of us. Overall I had a nice experience and would come back.
Another cold, wet and windy night kept me in my hotel but I
Another cold, wet and windy night kept me in my hotel but I definitely wanted some fresh, local pasta and found this place on Postmates. I ordered the prosciutto and arugula salad and the paccheri alla boscaiola (mushroom and sausage pasta in a cream sauce). Both hit the spot; food was delivered pretty fast - about 30 min, and this place was 5 mi from my hotel. They did not pack silverware as requested, but other than that, I had no complaints. I would love to come here in person next time.
My daughter and I stopped in without a reservation & were
My daughter and I stopped in without a reservation & were able to be seated at the bar. The pizza is very well done & authentic. Most def real Italian's are making the food. Everything was tasty & they have a nice wine list. Food was served very soon after being ordered, salad was fresh and perfect amount of dressing. Gnocchi was delish, well balanced sauce. Burrata was amazing! Beautiful yellow heirloom tomato's. And, the pizza crust was thin and perfectly baked with well balanced toppings that added dynamic flavors with the fresh greens. Absolutely love the family photos & flying Vespa too!
Experience Italy in Hyde Park
This is a delightful authentic Italian restaurant. It feels, looks and tastes just like we were back in Italy! Really! Good martinis and delicious food: lamb ragu, pesto pasta, copra mascarpone accompanied by limoncello and espresso. The experience happened because of having tickets to Court Theatre and the restaurant came highly recommended. Well the show was fantastic as was the food. We will be back to both! Try it (and both) because you’ll be glad you did!
Not that good
Had heard Nella’s was THE place to eat, so we tried three different pizzas- margherita, troisi (Sausage, Mozzarella, rapini)i and Funghi something or other (Funghi E Salsiccia which is sausage and mushroom.) Also ordered the $12 piece of tiramisu dessert. We had it delivered to us via a hired driver. They didn’t provide us with any napkins nor utensils to eat the tiramisu. The Margherita pizza was called”good” but the other two pizzas were mediocre. How this place managed to get a Michelin badge for 2023 is beyond us. The sausage and mushroom pizza had little flavor. Same with the troisi, which looked like it had uncooked broccoli on it (rapini was a new experience.) The cheese wasn’t evenly spread on the triosi, the sausage had no flavor and the whole pizza seemed rather dry. The online menu was woefully inadequate at describing the foods, with no sizes given for the pizzas (just Small, medium, large and family. No diameters given.) no photos of the food on the menu we found on their website. The tiramisu was really good, but not $12 a serving good. We won’t be repeat customers.
Great food, sensible prices, good service
We were here for lunch day before yesterday. We ordered a penne arabiata and a vegetarian pizza. The pizza was cooked in a very healthy way (the cheese wasn't overly salty and there were loads of vegetables). We told the server that we were in a hurry and he got us the food quickly. We are Asians so the server got our food slightly spicy, just the right level. Pricing is normal for these kind of locations. All in all, cannot fault the guys!

Hey @FluffyStar64, thanks for the question! When you place your bid the amount gets transferred in a deposit account, the second you either cancel your bid or a few minutes after the bid expires the funds are moved back into your main account from where you can refund it to your payment method or use for other transactions.
