We visited Nan's Thai and Malaysian Cafe (named differently on Trip Advisor for some reason) before a gig. We wanted something light, quick and delicious - Nan's did the trick! Situated opposite Hyde Park, Nan's is a small eat in cafe type establishment. The staff were attentive, friendly and helpful. The menu was excellent, varied and great value for money. We shared a mixed starter platter with fried wantons, prawn toast, chicken satay and some hefty veg spring rolls. All of them delicious and served hot with sweet chilli and a peanut sauce. We shared a lot of Jasmin tea to refresh the pallet. I had a chicken Gaeng Kiew Wan (green curry) with egg fried rice. It was delicious, fragrant, slightly spicy with some nicely booked veg. My dining partner had a really good pork Mee Wonton soup. Again, fragrant, tasty stock and soft slices of pork. We were in and out within 30 mins but could have easily stayed longer if we weren't in a rush. The mish mash cutlery and dishes added a really nice home feel about the place and if you wanted to they do corkage for bring your own booze too. Totally recommend this place if you're in the area and fancy something spicy on a budget.

I’ve not had a pad Thai that good since I was in Bangkok in 2007. Absolutely perfect, just like the street vendors in Thailand. The tofu Tom Yum soup and the Green curry were also delicious. Thanks, I’ll be returning!
Be the first to ReplyFantastic little place with amazing food
This is my favourite place to eat. No fuss, no frills, just tasty fresh authentic food, served quickly and at a very reasonable price. Really can't fault it. It's great for a quick lunch, evening meal or takeaway. ' I can only echo the restaurant's comments out the previous reviewer being uneducated- they clearly didn't have a clue what they were ordering. The aged chicken leg they refer to is a fantastic dish called Nasi Lemak- one of my absolute favourites (it is Malaysian, not Thai, which it does clearly state on the menu) and is as good as I have had actually in Malaysia! May's/Nan's staff- keep doing what you do, I love it. Every single person I have taken here for food has been back and taken more people along. Says it all really

If the food wasn’t disappointing enough the people were even worse. Where do I start? My housemates and I were looking forward to a lovely Thai meal- as we so often enjoy and decided to try a new eatery. Big mistake. We ordered £40 worth of Thai food and were so excited. Food was ready in 15 minutes, we picked it up and began to plate up! A list of what was wrong with the food: Beef was barely cooked, curry sauce was watered down, satay chicken smelt of feet, coconut rice had no hint of coconut, soggy chips, the amount of chilli was enough to use in serval dishes and the worst meal was what appeared to be a 3 day old chicken leg served on a bed of microwaved rice and crispy anchovies. We were not happy. We rang up immediately and politely explained we were hugely disappointed, only to be told that they did not care for what we had to say, that we would not get a full refund, aggressive words with which we eventually bargained for an 80% refund and no apology. It doesn’t stop there. When we went back to get the refund we were told we were uneducated and to not order from their restaurant again if we did not know how to eat Thai food, we were told to F*CK off and were hurried out of the restaurant before we even had a chance to speak! We were also given old English money as the refund so had to go back a third time to get money we could actually use again. Never in my life have I been more embarrassed for an establishment, do not go here!!

This is a great little café if you’re in a hurry. The food came within 10 minutes of ordering. Having just come back from Thailand, I was after some authentic Thai food. It was ok, not amazing, and nothing like I’d had in Thailand. The Thai green curry was nice, although I found it rather strange to see cucumber in this dish. That being said, it was quite tasty. The rice was a bit disappointing, no jasmine rice on the menu so I went for boiled but it was rather dry. Spring rolls were nice. The Thai tea was very sweet, although I’ve never had it before so this may be nothing out of the ordinary. This café is by no means posh and could do with some colour, but it’s great for a quick meal and perfect for single travellers. It’s also right by the uni of Leeds. I would eat here again, certainly within the happy hour (meal and rice for £5).

My son, who is in uni digs close by, was keen to take us to this popular student eatery. The eating space has a mix of chairs, benches and cafeteria tables and felt rather strange - like eating in someone's kitchen - especially as when we arrived all the cafe workers were tucking into their evening meal round one of the tables. Most of our food was good - my wife was disappointed with her chow mein, but our mixed starters did the job and I enjoyed my king prawn stir fry with noodles which had fresh ingredients and nice flavours. Similarly my son was very satisfied with his red thai curry. Being excellent value it's not surprising this is a good place to eat.

My local Thai - friendly, delicious, the food speaks for itself. It's BYOB so great for a casual dinner out. Thanks May's :)

This is a tiny little cafe which I pass everyday so decided to call in for tea one night when I couldn’t be bothered cooking. The menu is good and there’s a fair bit for vegetarians. I had satay mushrooms and tofu pad Thai - very tasty and filling and served very quickly. The only downsides are that customer service could do with polishing a bit and all the other diners were students which is not a bad thing but some of the conversations I couldn’t help but overhear because the place is so tiny weren’t necessarily what I needed to hear while I was eating.

Second visit to this Thai. Food good. Had two different curries and they were good. Will go again when over Leeds way
Be the first to ReplyAmazing cheap food, v rude staff
Food was very good and arrived literally as soon as we sat down but as soon as we paid the bill the waiter came up to us and very rudely told us “you need to leave now”. We were so shocked we thought we had done something wrong. Was a shame as the food was very good but we were hoping to sit and chat for a while but we were hurried out after 40 mins.

Mays is very tiny and did well to accommodate our party of 12. Small kitchen in one end if the room ,tables in the other. Have had a cold for some time so went for the hottest thing on the menu I could find. May’s uses the chilli rating for their curries which inal ads find helpful. The curry was reasonably hot but I have had ‘worse’ but I was not disappointed. No alcohol for sale but you’re are quite welcome to bring your own. I would advise prebooking even for couples as tables are at a premium as it seems to be very popular with students especially in term time
Be the first to ReplyGreat Authentic Thai Food at Great Price
We came with family for a meal. It was the best Thai food we’ve found outside of Thailand. Great herbs, spices and flavours. Authentic and even better value for money. Nice sized portions, friendly staff and cheap corkage too. Bring your own along. We had a variety of starters and mains and left full and satisfied. Definitely try this place if you’re in the area!
