Organic Mexican - American - Latin
Mexican - American - Latin fusion with excellent results. Ropa Vieja empanadas made to order were excellent. Ropa vieja (old clothes) is a Cuban style shredded beef in a tomato base with the usual spices with green or red pepper slices. Full bar and a good choice of beers.
Be the first to ReplyBreakfast with a Mexican twist
Truth be told, my wife and I decided to have breakfast at Nana for two reasons: (1) I read where Nana's version of my favorite breakfast item, Eggs Benedict, was rated one of the best in Chicago and (2) the restaurant at 3267 South Halsted Street in Bridgeport is open from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. As a 79-year-old retiree, I don't relish getting up for breakfast at 7 a.m. Nana is well known on the South Side for its American and Mexican comfort food. I was looking forward to its version of Eggs Benedict, called Nanadict. And I wasn't disappointed. It's made with house-made ropes, a traditional Mexican dish that looks like an unusually thick tortilla with vegetables and meat toppings, poached eggs, poblano cream sauce and chorizo, a type of pork sausage, and served with greens and home fries. Not the traditional Eggs Benedict with English muffins, Canadian bacon and hollandaise sauce. But Nanadict was something different, tasty and well prepared. Meanwhile, my wife also sampled something different, pina colada French toast with brioche, coconut/pineapple glaze and toasted coconut. She was delighted. If you prefer something more traditional, the All-American breakfast of two scrambled eggs, chicken sausage, home fries, greens and toast is sure to satisfy. Breakfast at Nana at 10 o'clock in the morning was worth the trip.
Be the first to ReplyPoor service. Food terrible. Over-priced.
Went for lunch. Taco salad was greens and jicama and a couple of tomatoes. Reviews said there were gluten free options. There were very few. Two lunches, cost $27 without tip.

I have eaten at Nana twice and both times liked it but haven’t loved it. To start, the service has been great. Nothing to complain about there. The menu is small, which I also like. The dishes are described well. So what’s not to like? For my taste the food is sometimes a little too spicy and maybe trying too hard to be different. They have a great space and good sandwich ideas but it seems that instead of being able to say wow what a great tasting sandwich, I’m try for to decide what went a little wrong. Prices are good and easy parking on street. I would recommend trying it because I love smaller restaurants like this in neighborhoods with nice wait staff and easy parking. I just need to find a “go to” dish!

Nana’s draws a crowd due to its fresh ingredients and Latin influenced food, tastily prepared. The place has a friendly waitstaff and neighborhood vibe. They now accept reservations for parties of 6 or more on the weekends and they recently opened a takeaway place around the corner serving some of the same food (connected to the Nana kitchen). This serves as an overflow place where diners are called when a table is ready, and addresses the fact that a table isn’t always immediately available even if you have a reservation. Usually, in our experience, the wait isn’t too bad in such situations. Recommend the plantain sandwich, the aztec salad with grilled chicken, and the taco bowl with grilled chicken.

Savory dishes that elevate Mexican cuisine several levels above the tacos and enchiladas menu. Can hold its own with the so called "gourmet Mexican" locations in the city.
Be the first to ReplyPopular, and here’s why
This restaurant offers a great blend of organic, healthy, and delicious. Our entrées were served immediately, and the service was exceptional. Your water glass and your coffee cup will never be low. My one complaint is that as soon as we got the bill, they took away everything from our table. A little bit too hasty; we could have lingered a minute to have a conversation, but we decided to take the hint and leave. Also, someone in the kitchen had a very heavy hand with the salt.

My son and I had brunch here to celebrate his birthday. He lives nearby, and the restaurant is comfortable inside with brick walls, paintings and cozy seatings.. There is a nice variety of fresh items on the menu, and we both enjoyed our meals that included field greens and other organic options. The wait staff was friendly and attentive. I’m looking forward to going back again!

Romantic wknd in Chicago and we were very pleased with this restaurant!
Sara was our waitress and an absolute pleasure!
Very personable and great service.
The food was everything we could’ve wanted and more!
They were out of a few items but that didn’t effect our order at all.
My husband got the nachos and said the black beans were the best he’s ever tasted!
We will definitely be back.
One of my Fav brunch places
As a Bridgeport resident, this is one of my favorite brunch places. It is quaint inside. In the summer, they have outdoor seating. Their avocado fries are very good! I also recommend their golden chai which has turmeric and you could substitute the milk for oat milk. Good service as well!
