One of the best meals I have had in my entire life.
If you can get past the high brow and pretentious attitude of some of the customers here, then you will be able to treat yourself to one of the best meals you will have in your entire life. The service, ambiance, and vibes (except for some of the other customers) here are great. But you come for the food and the food is amazing. There's no fancy Michelin restaurant technique and plates for instagram here. It's just food with amazing flavor that makes you feel like you're getting a real home cooked meal by grandmom. The food will transport you home or at least the feeling of being in someone's home and getting the best home cooked meal of your life. It's pricey, yes, but the money goes to support the staff having a quality life and the high quality of the food. It's worth every penny.

In a restored New Orleans house, this charming restaurant was a perfect place for my birthday. Excellent wine, cocktails, food and service. We were, as per my request, seated on the screened in porch. Quieter than the rest of the restaurant, it had a pleasant breeze. Heaters kept us warm. In spite of the February chill outside, I was comfortable in shirt sleeves. We started off with sweet potato biscuits with Steen syrup butter. Delicious! The crab claws were plentiful and perfectly seasoned. The shrimp were huge and tasty. They gave us a special lagniappe appetizer- raw oysters and caviar. Wow! The oyster soup was OK. The last course of duck ( crispy and delicious), stuffed cabbage rolls, and winter salad was a hit. My daughter, who doesn't eat salad, loved it. The meal was finished off with a creamsicle. Light and creamy, with a delicious crunch alligator shaped cookie. I can't wait to go back!

The secret garden dinner club. There is a vintage kitchen pots and pans store next door as well.

I struggled a bit to write this review, because I wanted so badly for this meal -- our last dinner in NOLA at the end of a week-long visit -- to be fantastic. But I think my expectations were too high, so a few minor things left me feeling "meh" about the experience. As others have noted, I felt a disconnect between the sort of "take it or leave it" attitude on the booking website vs the welcoming tone of the host when we arrived. I had to psych myself up just to make the reservation (could I, as the website said, "handle" their philosophy and rules?) -- so I wasn't sure what to expect. But I resolved to follow the directions on the website, "check [my] energy" and try to enjoy the experience, and walking up to the house and settling in, the ambience was warm. The food was good, and some dishes -- the biscuits, the duck confit -- were terrific. But others (including, unfortunately, the oyster soup) were unremarkable or didn't seem cohesive within a course. I'm glad we chose the non-communal dining option, although we were seated next to it. And sadly, one of those patrons spent a *long* time, at several moments during dinner, bragging to the sommelier about their own travels and wine purchases, which kinda killed the mood for me. I realize that's not MSC's fault...but it was disappointing, and the food and service weren't enough to wow me.
Be the first to ReplyWe had a lovely experience.
I was nervous looking at some other reviews, and all those fears were quelled when we arrived. Service was 100% attentive the entire night. Food was fun and delicious. Ambiance was invigorating but not over the top. We opted to buy a bottle of wine instead of doing the pairing, and I was pleased with that decision. Though our table mates did the pairing and enjoyed it. Lastly, I emailed them at the last minute with a request for gluten free, and to my surprise, they accommodated it. Highly recommend. The only awkward part: sitting at a communal table, I found myself trying to extract conversation with other guests who seemed content to just sit there. But after a few drinks, everyone lightened up and it was a blast! Next time, we might bring some ice breakers to get the convo flowing more easily.

Amazing food in a beautiful location! The chef and staff really nail the locally sourced, traditional Cajun recipe inspired concept. Everything from the starter to the dessert was delicious, the staff was attentive and clearly passionate about both the food and the locally sourced ingredients. Try the communal tables for a fun "dinner party with strangers" experience or get a smaller table for just you and your friends. Side note, the non-alcoholic drinks were on point! The coffee cherry soda was especially tasty

We had heard of the supper club from friends and we were very pleased. Tables were family style and reservation had a seating which left an intimate family style experience with an old classic New Orleans home. Crab jumbalaya stood out as the best thing we ate along with the oyster soup. Had the wine pairing as well, which was nice to pair specifically with the flavors but if you're a drinker, they had a bar available. Supper lasted about 3 hours and we ate well. Fun experience for a night out!

Unbelievable experience! This restaurant is the most special dinner adventure. Great atmosphere, one of a kind. The courses seemed to be never ending. Each course came with complimentary side dishes that were so full of flavor and love. This restaurant is thoughtful from the smallest details to the big picture. Overall, this was the best meal of my life. I thought I was going to die happy, but now I know I will. Also, the staff was very accommodating with my allergies, (we let them know ahead of time) and very discreet about it with the other patrons, which I really appreciated. This is a once in a lifetime magical restaurant.
Be the first to ReplyWe loved our evening here.
The atmosphere is so beautiful and the food is a lovely throwback. It's like if my grandma were cooking, but she was in Brooklyn hipster design frame of mind. It can be difficult to get a meal in New Orleans with plenty of local veg, so this is a fresh option. The food was amazing, but they should not have served the blackberry galette. The dough was extremely tough and overall dessert was amateurish. I've heard from others the desserts can be hit or miss so I hope they work on that. The cocktails are next level. Stick with them. The wine pairings are just ok and do not add to the Cajun country supper. Especially when such cool, refreshing cocktails are available.

I have been wanting to try MSC for quite sometime now and it was all I hoped it would be. The service is lovely. The communal seating and serving meant we had new friends before the night was over. You get a little bit of the story of each course, but not so much as to break the flow of the conversation. The food was simply fantastic. The highlights were the sweet potato biscuits, watermelon and shrimp salad, and stuffed crab. The gumbo had quite a bit of heat on it, but it was fun that it was served with both rice and potato salad and we were encouraged to try it both ways. IFKYK. We did the wine paring, which I think we would skip next time. Pours were generous, but I'm not sure it added much to the meal. I would have been happy with a pre-dinner cocktail and ordering a glass or two of wine off the wine menu. Definitely an experience-style dinner. I highly recommend.

Be the first to ReplyThe place is beautiful.
I enjoyed eating family style and meeting new people. The service was perfect. I felt like the food was hit or miss. Soft shell crawfish sliders were great. Sweet potato biscuits were delicious. I didn't love the gumbo but I am also not an okra fan. I was confused as to why all the ingredients were local except the rice. We have great rice in Louisiana. My husband loved the gumbo. And for dessert they served king cake about a week before Mardi Gras. If you're going to feed locals king cake a week before Mardi Gras it had better be amazing. It wasn't. I'd probably go again but it was pricey for just a good meal.
Be the first to ReplyOverpriced and Underwhelming.
We were in New Orleans for nine days and this was sadly our least favorite meal (by far). The ambience gets the stars but the food was average. The fish dip and biscuit were a nice start but it quickly went downhill and by the end, they came out with an overcooked king cake that just felt lazy given the high price of the meal. ($225 each including tax and 25% gratuity) - Don't even think of adding the wine pairing, unless you are used to paying $55 plus 25% gratuity on one glass of wine. The service had an unpleasant edge and we left the experience deflated as it felt like a waste of money when there are dozens of better dinner choices in Nola for half the price.
Be the first to ReplyI learned of this place from the cookbook by the same name.
At best it's a very unique and highly sensory down-home, family style "fine dining" experience. At worst, it's an anxiety-inducing booking process that comes with rigid policies and a non-refundable, likely months-in-advance commitment. Despite the latter (I put off making reservations for a while because if it) I enjoyed my time at Mosquito Supper Club very much. The menu was sensational and comforting, featuring many of the recipes I wanted to try from the cookbook that would be somewhat challenging to source, fussy, or otherwise tough to pull off on my home turf. The focus on local provisions/seafood as it relates to seasonality is wonderful, makes me want to return again to taste what lands on the table during other times of the year. The stuffed crab was without a doubt the star of the line-up for me: a death row meal. I found a new appreciation for Steen's Cane Syrup and delighted in the new-to-me local habitual phenom/debatable topic of whether one could, would, should, or shalln't eat their gumbo with potato salad. The German couple at our table thought this was hilarious. They also did not want to eat their portion of the raw oyster course so we gleefully enjoyed bonus bites, leaving the table round-bellied and full of affection for the strangers with whom we broke biscuits for a spell. Folks seemed spit on whether the wine pairing was worth it, much like the reviews suggest here. We stuck with cocktails and straight spirits for the duration and that served us well. Everything was well-balanced and seasonally tuned like the menu. Since it was a warm October evening, their spritzer was especially *drinkable*. The ambiance is lovely and bewitching with its soft-lit patina and not-too-lived-in homeyness. The art and artifacts on display enhance the hyper-local vibe as does the hi-fi spinning album after album of New Orleans heavyweights the whole night we were there. The whole concept of this place feels like a nebulous dining experiment based on the idiom "it'll all come out in the wash". As long as you can handle the philosophy, limitations, and non-refundable co$$$t commitment, I heartily recommend the MSC experience.
Be the first to ReplyTotally awesome from start to finish.
Will go back next time for sure. Extra shout out to Emily and her cool earrings (and excellent hosting).

CAUTION: WAY OVERPRICED AND OVERRATED!$500 for dinner for TWO ($468 prepaid for prix fix food, wine pairing, tax, 20% compulsory gratuity and $35 for two cocktails because they weren't ready to start our dinner and wine service when we were seated)1. Communal seating to "encourage us to share and meet new people". Music and ambience was too loud to converse among the 6 people in our own party let alone the 4 others at the table.2. Service. Platters, bowls and soup tureen were placed on the table where we could serve ourselves. Only the small pieces of sweet potato pie were individually plated. No one ever asked us how we were enjoying our meal. Attitude seemed to be that we should just be thankful we had the privilege of being there. Staff seemed indifferent at best. 3. Food courses varied from ok to very good. Dry duck confit was the main course. Did enjoy the salad. 4. Wine "pairings" were very small pours of wine that didn't seem to complement the courses and were not refilled. I think I've said enough. So sad to have wasted one of our NOLA evenings when there are SO many opportunities for SUPER food/ambiance in this town. And this was by far our most expensive evening.

The shtick is that they want diners to meet each other at communal tables. And then they do just about everything to keep this from working. The noise level is out of this world. You can meet people at your table if you want to shout all night. The music by and large is thumpa thumpa soul with just enough variety so that you will notice that the more energetic the bass beat the louder the shouting. There is a divider between the two big tables but rather than closing it to encourage conversational groups, it is open to serve the interests of the servers. The food is well-seasoned, though oily. The duck tasted like it had been under a heat lamp since the day before. DO NOT ORDER THE WINE PAIRING. Six of us received about 100 ml in a small glass, and then rather than top off the glasses, the server put the cap back on the wine and put it back behind the bar for tomorrow. Convenient for the staff, not so much for the diners

Nice atmosphere and friendly staff but SO not worth the exorbitant price. The presentations were much better than the flavor and texture of the food. The bbq shrimp were mealy and bland. The wine pairings were fine but definitely not worth an additional $50. Bottom line: I would never recommend this place or consider a return.
Be the first to ReplyThe food was alright, but unspectacular.
Certainly not worth the price they charge. I was underwhelmed to say the least. The wine tasting was comical. 4 sips of wine for $55. Two were undrinkable. I had to order beers and cocktails because the wine pairing wasn't nearly enough to satisfy, in addition to not being good. The communal dining aspect isn't ideal. I get they are going for the "community" feel, but if I'm paying $200+ per person, I don't want to have to serve myself soup from a pot. The two waitresses were as nice as can be, but the manager was not. So to eat here with the wine pairing, you prepay $165 plus 20% tip and 10% tax. Well my wife came down with COVID day of, so we tried calling - except they don't have a working phone. So I showed up to the restaurant to try to reason with the manager, and her quote was along the lines of "you wouldn't get a refund or rescheduled for a concert if you had Covid, so we won't do it for you either." Their unwillingness to attempt to accommodate a Covid infected pre paid patron was offensive. They would rather take your money and potentially infect other patrons via communal dining than even attempt to reschedule you. The food and wine isn't anywhere near worth the price, and when you factor in the prepay absurdity and the pompous pretentiousness of the management, I could never recommend wasting your money here.

After being invited to a dinner here, I think I lowered my expectations of the meal a half dozen times. I read the site - no refunds, no substitutions, no PHONE NUMBER!?! - and concluded that the evening would be an expensive but mediocre (food-wise) way to enjoy time with good friends.I was entirely wrong. The place is lovely, the team is charming, and the food was absolutely original and delicious. All of it. Start to finish. To be fair, this is NOT Brigsten's. The meal is family-style. The food is far less polished - but also far friendlier. This is the kind of food that lights up the room, gets everyone interacting, laughing, drinking... because there isn't an overpowering sense of fussiness and formality. Lots of "Try this!!" and "Oh wow, what is that?"My sense is that food quality and originality really haven't kept up with fancier and fancier decor and presentation and prices... and I find that much more interesting food lives at the middle of the price spectrum; Dian Xin, Kin (RIP), Silk Road, etc... So, expectations only fell with a $150 per-person price tag (no drinks). This place breaks that idea to pieces. It feels like maybe they actually do have a better way of running a restaurant... or a business... Not because of the employee-platitudes-slash-marketing-gestures that wax and wane, but because you can tell they are doing something really different. Something thoughtful.I didn't get it. Any of it. Then I went. Now I do... and I like it.

We are locals and it was our third time dining here - incredible food and wine pairing! Every bite even better than the last. The atmosphere, music, and communal eating is so much fun! Highly recommend for a unique and delicious dining experience.
