Clearly profits over guest experience! Shockingly awful!
I have been to Morito on Hackney road and had a great experience so I recommended Exmouth market to friends. I am so embarrassed I recommended this place. There is clearly no thought that has gone into the design of this place. The tables are so crammed in it is an awful experience . My back was actually touching the person behind me. Immediately the whole table decided let’s just eat and then go somewhere else quickly because we were so uncomfortable. There would be so much potential here if they owners actually cared if their guests were comfortable. I wouldn’t even come back purely because of this. It’s so obvious this place is just trying to charge excessive amounts for a very, very below average experience. The food resembled street food that could of just been served in paper and completely over priced. The aubergine was the best thing but totally not as described. The most minuscule bit of ‘whipped feta’ to accompany and extremely poorly presented, sadly this was by far the best dish. I would definitely not recommend the cod croquettes unless you enjoy eating balls on salt for fun, I’ve never seen bruschetta before that looked like a half eaten burger bun, £14 for 4 tiny slices of ham is just completely ridiculous from this place. This entire place needs to look at what they are offering and re think everything! It’s such a shame as the other Morito is actually good. We will not be back to either now and will warn anyone of our friends to avoid the same experience. Don’t waste your money and time and literal back ache from the stools!!!
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food but pricey
Had dinner with a friend here last Wednesday. Whilst the tapas are expensive -£9!! or so- and we commiserated how we can get the same items in Spain for less than half of that price, we had to admit the quality was excellent. I had the pumpkin pisto, aubergine with honey and bacalao croquetas and was very impressed with the portion sizes as well, especially the aubergine. My friend also was impressed with the plate size of her patatas bravas. Service was quick and efficient. We sat at the bar. I’m also subtracting a star bc the wine “carafe” was really overpriced. Honestly I’ve seen MUCH bigger carafes in other places- this was barely two glasses a person. For £14! It’s a better deal to get a single glass. Not a bad dry white wine but not the best I’ve had.

I love morito-it’s relaxed with friendly staff and the menu is wonderful- so many delicious options- highly recommend the crispy aubergines with whipped feta, the crispy chickpeas, padron peppers, beetroot dip, tortilla……. Well everything! Simple food bursting with flavour- speedy service too!
Be the first to ReplyExpensive and Pokey Place
Went for a pre theatre drink/snack. Place is tiny and pokey - nothing like pictures on the internet. In fact I was embarrassed about it as I had booked for friends. This is not a Spanish place - not proper tapas at all (although you can get pattas ) It is very expensive for what you get - as an example £14 for 4 small slices of ham. Really would suggest avoiding.
Be the first to ReplyDinner before theatre
Although service was good food wasn’t. The patas bravas wasn’t seasoned, the squid was all batter and barely any fish. The glass of wine for £8.50 was barely even 125ml and waiter didn’t know either. So £46 for 2 with 4 tapas between us was expensive for the food and wine we had Unfortunately wouldn’t go back again
Be the first to ReplyPopped in on the off chance.
Had been to the theatre on a Monday night so there weren’t many places left serving food. Popped in on the off chance and were lucky enough to catch them before they finished serving. Had a lovely few plates, a chicory salad and some lamb chops were particularly good. We asked to pay and we’re surprised to be asked if we didn’t want coffee or deserts. Of course we did but had assumed as it was Monday they would be closing. Finished off with a sherry trifle and some americanos. Just what we needed to end our day out. We’ve been to Morro many times but never it’s little sister. Very pleased we did. Thanks.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent food !
Excellent food..We were just passing by and stopped not knowing the place. The food was Amazing and the chef accomodated very gently to dairy free restrictions. I would recommend 100% !!!
Be the first to ReplyAmazing mini tapas bar!
Exceptional flavours combined very well!Amazing mini tapas plates. Only negatives the jammon and the cheese platters, which were very small portions. Would go there again to taste the rest plates!!
Be the first to ReplyFried
Cozy tapas bar in a nice street with lots of pubs and restaurants. Open kitchen with large baking tray and deep friers. Nearly all tapas we ordered were fried or deep fried - even the bread was fried and the aubergine was deep-fried, which was a surprise. A bit too heavy for our taste.
Be the first to ReplyNot amazing by any means
I had high hopes for dinner here as we had booked it for our anniversary. To me it just felt a little too casual and lacking atmosphere. We were sat at the counter and which almost reminded me of tapas bars in Barcelona but that's where the comparison ends. The menu was okay wirh good choice, the food came out super fast not giving you a huge amount of time to sit and enjoy it. The chorizo and the cod balls were very tasty, surprised not to be able to order any sangria though
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing lunch.
I had been recommended Moro/Morito over the years from various people and so I did not hesitate to book when the opportunity arose as we had an event in the area and there was availability. The cod croquettes were very salty (so they were no longer enjoyable). The aubergine dish with feta sauce was really nice but all other dishes (chicken, pork belly, fried cauliflower) were really average. I wouldn't come back and am disappointed with my experience as I'd heard such great things. It looks like a lot of the negative reviews are more recent (2021 onwards) so not sure whether something has changed, but I was expecting this to be better than it was.
Be the first to ReplyWhoof great meal
Went to Moro next door years ago but thought I’d give the spin off next door a go Well impressed ok menu limited but so good Every dish just hit the point House white quite adequate good job as other wines a bit OTT price wise Couples get a counter seat but we could enjoy the street scene and who needs more as street eaters enjoyed looking at our meal Chick pea dish ace Just hour the spot Now I don’t give 5 if no level access toilet and never checked however the craft beer bar across the road has a disabled toilet so waiving penalty for now
Be the first to ReplyPoor service, food with potential but ultimately disappointing.
We were recommended by a friend to visit rather than going to our usual favourite (Barrafina) so I was very excited to try Morito. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant it was not a welcoming atmosphere. The service was some of the worst I have come across. We were sat at the counter which is meant to be an interactive experience like in Spain however we didn't find this at all. The gentleman behind the counter couldn't seem less interested, did not bother to refill drinks or make any conversation at all in regards to the food and drink. The other waiters were rather sarcastic and did not pay any attention to detail that one would expect. Onto the food-the jamon croquettes were excellent although a small portion, and we loved the aubergine, lamb and pan con tomate. I took one bite of the fried baby squid and my mouth was filled with grit and sand....we left the rest of them however the waiter didn't even ask how the food was or if there was any problem with the one plate that hadn't been touched. At £80 for two you would expect both impeccable service and food, not to leave hungry with a mouthful of sand. I'm not going to label this restaurant as a 'must avoid' as I think that is unfair. Maybe we just caught them on a bad day, perhaps undertones of a good restaurant that has become a bit comfortable in its reputation? Who knows, but it was sad to be so disappointed when leaving and I hope when I pluck up the courage to revisit that I have a better experience.
Be the first to ReplyAwful experience - avoid
Disappointing experience.
When we ordered our server insisted we ordered more expensive dishes which were inedible when they arrived.
We booked the table for 90mins but at 75mins she slammed down the bill and said we had to leave right now as the next people had arrived (despite arriving on time for the booking and that we were still eating our food).
The bill was expensive, the food was below standard and the service was horrible.
Never going back!
Avoid avoid avoid, there are too many nice resturants in Angel to settle.
Unpleasant situation
I love this restaurant, I have been going here for years. the food is delicious!!
But on my last visit I was upset. There were 3 of us, one of the guests wasn't feeling well, so he couldn't eat, we ordered drinks and 4 dishes. When we asked for the bill I was told that we had not respected the venue's policy of having a dinner and that we would have to remember it for next time.
Now I have not read anywhere in the restaurant about this "policy" and I would be curious to know if there is a minimum order of dishes to be made; because the two of us had 4 dishes, and obviously my friend couldn't know he was going to be sick with his stomach that evening. If this policy exists it should be explained to customers when they sit at the table. I found this behavior to be very fussy.
A little expensive, but delicious food
Morito is definitely not a "cheap eats" venue, but the quality of the food is really up there. We had excellent service, in a cosy atmosphere with attentive staff. The food was really delicious. Even down to the olive oil for the bread, which was of such high quality and so flavoursome. We will be back
Be the first to ReplyAmazing service, great gluten free options
Have eaten here several times now and each time the food, service and atmosphere have been amazing. I’m coeliac and so need a strict gluten free diet, and the staff are extremely well-versed in catering to allergens, and they’re really clued up on cross contamination. There were plenty of options on the menu that were gluten free and EVERYTHING was delicious. They even went to the trouble of bringing me a plate of crudités to have with a dip in place of bread. Will come back again and again!
Be the first to ReplyLovely pre-theatre tapas
Lovely selection of tapas and a nice atmosphere. Great for pre-theatre (if you're heading to Sadler's Wells) and was treating busy and buzzy when we left
Be the first to ReplyFantastic - really nice food
Very nice tapas style restaurant, not far from the main bars in Shoreditch.
We ordered about 5 dishes to share and I really rated all of them - the Patatas Bravas was some of the nicest I’ve had. The pork chops were also a highlight for me. All very reasonably prices for London.
Inside, the restaurant is very nice and the waitress was so so accommodating to us.
Recommend if you are in the Shoreditch area.
Mean & stingy Morito
Just spent all of 15 minute at a tiny table at morito exmouth market …. Facing the toilets and the extraction .. the bill was £30 for 2 tiny stingy tapas and 2 drinks ! £5 of that was our service charge which took about 2 seconds ..
A 1 cm thick tortilla of potatoes and a squirt of bottled aioli £7.50 ? No one in Spain would serve a tortilla that size it was a joke . As for the pan e tomate .. 2 tiny pieces of stale crisp bread with sloppy tomatoes & some Jamon without any flavour ( Sainsburys is better quality than that ) I speak from experience as my brother in law is from Bilbao ..
Tinto de Verano made with flat lemonade , thanks morito for the most rip off evening I can recall in our 30 years in clerkenwell.. only came because the Eagle was shut . Last time over 2 years ago we said never again .. the portions were ridiculous.. dollies tea party size and now they are even smaller .
Good Tapas Choices
If tapas is your thing then this is the place to be, and we enjoyed nine plates between three, and it was almost too much for us! The highlight of the evening though was the chocolate mousse dessert, acclaimed to be The Best Ever Tasted!!
Be the first to ReplyI was at Morito last week
I was at Morito last week and had a awful experience. I ordered Lamb Chops that arrived as 90% fat and 10% raw and was coached i to ordering the aubergine chips which were mush. With a small beer the bill came to around £25. I left hungry and disappointed. Bad show Morito.
Be the first to ReplyMassively increased their prices - shortsighted move, I think
I used to really enjoy going to Morito: sure their portions were dinky but their prices were not too high considering. However it seems they have now decided to recoup their losses from having to close for the last few months, and have massively increased their prices without changing their portions. This seems really shortsighted: while restaurants have suffered through the lockdown, so have many of their potential or previous customers, this will cause people to stop coming to this place, which is sad and really not well thought out by the owners, such a pity!
They should also think about blankets or heating, as it was freezing cold sitting out in the howling gale.
