Outstanding food.
Coffee is excellent. Professional and friendly service. Easy to find parking, one of our favorite spots in LA

We came on a Saturday night at 7:50pm and were seated quickly. Parking is sparse in this little mini-mall but since we came later, we found a spot at the meter and put the coins til 8pm (when the metered parking ends). However, I imagine at busier times you should account of the time it will take to find parking (seems like that could take a while). Inside, It's a homely vibe so you can come dressed comfortably. They took our drink orders and that didn't take long at all. The Michelada was fantastic. "Authentic" is the name of their game and you can tell in everything they made down to the michis. It had a good blend of the ingredients; well-balanced; wasn't too spicy that it burns the throat but enough that it wasn't just beer & Clamato (for example); rim was perfect. The horchata wasn't too heavy - which is my only gripe with most horchatas - but this one was still very refreshing & tasty; another perfect blend.Just when I started to think they were taking a while, our main courses came. By the time I got to finishing this review, I had forgotten what my gf ordered; it was a chicken dish with a red mole I think. I DO remember her saying "I ran out of the mole so I don't want the rest of the chicken because it's too dry... I think it's dry on purpose because it goes with the mole." So she did have some leftovers. This goes to show you it was a good portion. And I double down on this by showing you a picture (so I wouldn't forget what I ordered at least) of their MASSIVE mol-EH burrito. It was phenomenal! The dark mole sauce was rich in flavor. It gives the mole at Guelagetza a run for its money. And like I said: the portion was outrageous. The price might surprise you. A homely place like that in a mini-mall makes you feel like you should get a better deal, but because of the portion sizes (I had enough for a solid lunch the next day), I didn't bat an eye. And I'm a cheap bastard. Anyways, my compliments to the chefs (and the bartender). We had a great meal.
Be the first to ReplyThat's my go-to spot for pozole and horchata.
Literally one of the best I've had. They have two different types of horchata too. I get their pozole to go and by the time I get home, it's still super hot. No need to reheat.

We had wonderful mole here!! I had the red and my bf had dark. It was delicious!!!the guacamole was really good to they made it without onions on request.

Yeah, the food is pretty good, but my big issue here is that they don't listen when you tell them to remove food allergens. I get very sick when I eat onions, and this place, no matter how many times it's clarified, will always put onions on the food. My family just brought me a to-go quesadilla that I cannot eat because it'll make me very sick, despite being told not to put onions on the food.
Be the first to ReplyThis place has some of the best mole in LA.
The tortillas are made by hand and you can see the stone oven. It's old school and the food is solid. Kind of feels like you are actually in Mexico for a bit.
Be the first to ReplyDO NOT ORDER FROM HERE IF YOU HAVE FOOD ALLERGIES.
They do not put a full description of ingredients on their online food menu. I am very allergic to corn. I get hives, I throw up and get very sick from eating corn. I have even ended up in the hospital from eating corn. So I have to be extremely careful about what I order and eat. I ordered an empanada from this restaurant. I read the ingredients and corn was not listed. I get the "empanada" and it is made in a corn tortilla. I waited 40 minutes to get food that I cannot physically ingest. If your restaurant is going to serve nontraditional empanadas, then you must say that in the description. Millions of people have food allergies and it is absolutely imperative that restaurants list all the ingredients on their food dishes. If I had eaten this, I would be experiencing a severe allergic reaction right now, And it would be entirely the fault of the restaurant for not listing all of the proper ingredients in their food descriptions. This is not ok.

Mexican cuisine is as varied and complex as French, Italian, or Japanese cuisine. Of the regional Mexican cuisines I've enjoyed, I love Oaxacan the best. The mountains, plains, seacoast, and indigenous cultures have contributed to an array of dishes made with Oaxacan ingredients that boast complex flavors not found elsewhere. Los Angeles is a popular destination for Oaxacan ex-pats, so when in LA recently, I was eager to find a great Oaxacan restaurant. And I did: Monte Alban (named for the capital of the ancient Zapotec civilization). The salsa that accompanied the fresh totopos was delicious. There's a wide selection of Mexican beers, but the presentation caught our attention. The glass came with a soft rubber contraption placed over the lip. Our waiter inverted the beer bottle and quickly inserted the neck through a small hole in the center of the device. Very clever.Molé, the complex sauce and marinade, often with a note of chocolate, originated in Oaxaca, and that's what we came to eat. We were not disappointed. The Molé Coloradito is an intensely flavorful sauce that smothered --but did not overpower-- the moist chicken.Monte Alban is on my list for a return visit next time I'm in Los Angeles.
Be the first to ReplyBest Mole Negro I've ever had.
No hype. Complex flavor profile that's perfectly balanced in a silky smooth sauce. The chicken breast was generous and as succulent as the breast can be (not my favorite part of the chicken). Strongly recommend.Chiles Relleno were everything this classic dish can offer, taken to the next level. The batter was light, cheese was delicious & more substantial than most (Oaxaqueno?), a nice change from the typical ever-spreading cheese lake. Most surprising to me was how delicious the rice & black beans were. Some of the best I've tasted! Perfection. We split a Caramel Flan (they were out of Nicuatole), and feel privileged to have tasted the most transcendent custard & caramel confection of our lives. Don't miss, even if you have to take it home for later. The only disappointment was the Empanada De Amarillo we hoped to share. It arrived looking like an overstuffed, loose quesadilla. The flavors were sublime! Absolutely delicious & so fresh. The presentation was difficult to share and harder to consume, unfortunately. It was also nothing like what we were anticipating, based on the name. Live & learn. Despite the antojitos angst this time, we can't wait to explore the Monte Alban menu..

So good! I got the mole burrito for take out once during covid and it super flavorful, huge portion too! Also had a 4 course meal here last night and tried their ceviche, mole verde, taco enchilada, and flan. Each dish has a unique flavor, packed with spices and a slight punch. The owners have been here for 25+ years, you can definitely tell how authentic it is. I'm so glad they made it through covid and I can't wait to try the rest of the menu!

Will go againMoles all the way @ Monte Alban! Had a course of different dishes with different moles. Ceviche de camaron, mole Verde de pollo, taco enchilada de picadillo.
Be the first to ReplyPhenomenal mole Coloradito! Addicting.
My boyfriend ordered it, and I kept stealing bites from his food. I ordered the Oaxacan pizza, and while it was good and a bang for your buck, I wish I had ordered the mole. The staff were super nice and I liked the atmosphere too. When we went, easy parking right in front.
Be the first to ReplyThis place is pretty good, don't come if you're looking for
This place is pretty good, don't come if you're looking for great service lol I've been to Oaxaca three times and fell in love with the cuisine so I was very excited to try this place! The food isn't bad but it's nothing to rave over, honestly I think the drinks were my favorite part. I would definitely try this place again but wouldn't be my first choice for tasty authentic food unfortunately

Be the first to ReplyWell I had to give a star because I wouldn't give them
Well I had to give a star because I wouldn't give them nothing at all a zero ..the waitress was very sweet telling us wait was going to be 10 minutes that went to 20 then 35 minutes then the guy I guess you can call him the jerk (host) who gave us the menu said we could order while we stand in the middle of the restaurant. I would have asked if we wanted a drink while we were waiting . He didn't. he said another few minutes with an aggressive tone and being rude, so after 40 minutes, we left .No apologies for the wait . He said you guys can leave it don't matter..what a totally let down
