Taste less and worthless
I never write a review unless it is bad to warn others not to fall in the trap. I visit big Moe's in Ilford with my family after seeing the impressive decor from the outside. The decor looks amazing but sadly the food didn't match the interior. I ordered a big Moe's platter for two, but the portions of food was really small, and there's only one small pot of fries . This platter was meant to be for 2 people, but it looked like it could only feed 1 person. For £43 you also get a half chicken for that price. Complete rip off. After spending close to £90 for a family of 4 , we all left hungry. The chicken was tasteless and dry, and the burgers looked a lot better then they taste. Chicken burger was dry and hard. Well never go there again. Don't get fooled by the decor. To rub salt into the wound , they charged a 12% service charge on top.
Be the first to ReplyGood Food but Service Not Great
Fab 50's decor and a cool car table in the centre of the restaurant. We didn't sit there as it was one of the many tables which needed cleaned! We weren't impressed when we had to order by the app nor that the service charge had already been added on automatically (12%) I mean what are paying that for when you don't actually get a waiter? Food was delivered but cutlery was just plonked down on a bundle on the table so no, service charge was not justified! Food was tasty though.

After booking a table, we received a confirmation for their restaurant in Whitechapel. They confirmed the time and address. After travelling from Essex we found the restaurant had closed down. No commincation, confirmation had the whitechapel address. Very disappointed and the waste of time and money getting to them.
Be the first to ReplyPretty good
Pretty tasty when I went to the Whitechapel location. Good prices too. The strawberry lemonade mocktail was soo good there, definitely ordering it again.
Be the first to ReplyDon't bother
Just substandard. Pay at the till, which isn't a problem. Waited 30 mins for food, which again isn't a problem but it is where the issues began. Drinks didn't arrive until after the food, which arrived in drips and drabs. The cheeseburger was the first thing to arrive. Chips were cold, then some other bits arrived. It took 10 mins for all our food to be put on the table after the arrival of the first item. Service charge of 12% is a shocker given the lack of service. The bell eecieved a good bashing from the kitchen staff who were constantly handling chips and whipping their hands on their tops without washing them. Not impressed by the greesy chips. I wouldn't waste your time or money eating here. £100 for a meal for 5.
Be the first to ReplyNot worth the money
No service at all Bad french fries You cant buy food without minimum 10 % service on top - but you have to order on your phone. Bad bad cleaning. My arms were sticky afterwards :( Burgers were okay… Milkshakes sad very good Not worth the money
Be the first to ReplyAmerican diner experience
The staff were friendly when greeting us and immediately brought us to a table. Explained where we could order, either on website or over at the tills. Food arrived pretty quick after ordering, had chicken on waffles. The chicken was nice and flavoursome, the waffle was good and there was maple syrup in a pot next to it. The atmosphere really provided an American diner experience which was rather enjoyable. The experience was nice and one staff member checked up on us during the meal. However in the ladies bathroom the sink would not work therefore had to use the downstairs baby change to wash hands. Other than that the meal was lovely and would likely go again.
Be the first to ReplyThe service charge can be removed, and it should be!
The worst food and service I've had in a long time. Took almost 40 minutes for our breakfasts to arrive after ordering, which we had to do via the website as they don't give you menus and only came to the table to tell us to use the website, not to take an order. Breakfast arrived with cold beans and rock hard, dry sausages. We weren't given cutlery, had to go find it ourselves, noone checked how the food was or offered more drinks, and they automatically add a service charge to the bill - if you pay in advance as they push you to, you will end up having to ask for a refund, luckily as we were paying after eating I was able to ask them to remove it but we still paid over £30 for two awful breakfasts and two coffees. Would never go back here again.

Pizza’s were great, reasonably priced, Friendly quick service. Worked well for pre concert food. Clean toilet.

Had a amazing experience at Big Moe’s Diner, great food & lovely staff highly recommend this to everyone
Be the first to ReplyGood burgers
Overall a good experience, with a good burger and a nice virgin piña colada. The QR code option is annoying, but they still have printed menus, and I would hope that they keep them. The onion rings are not excellent, but still. By far it's the burger that carries the show.
Be the first to ReplyThere are much better options elsewhere, especially at this price
The decor is good, you gotta give it that, but the main reason you go to a restaurant is the food and, frankly, it wasn’t good enough, especially for the price.
I got the fried chicken and waffle, and whilst the waffle was decent (pretty hard to mess that up, with the waffle maker and all), the chicken was a sad, barely battered, miniature, dry lump that lacked flavour and texture (outside of being tough and chewy).
I also got a portion of chips and they were equally poor - edible, but poor. You know that slightly funny taste you get from bad chips/maybe an older portion, using bad oil? Yeah pretty much that.
I also got a freak shake, which to be fair was decent, maybe if you just want a dessert this place might be ok (but a proper dessert parlour will blow it out of the water, I’m sure).
My stuff alone cost over £25 - if I spent the same money in the KFC nearby I would’ve gotten much more both in quality and quantity.
My partner got a burger that apparently tasted exclusively of crunchy bread, mayo, and not much else. I don’t even wanna mention the weird vegan cheese chips thing, that looked grim and I’m glad I wasn’t eating it. Needless to say, they were equally unhappy.
Avoid. The decor isn’t gonna save you.
A great experience!
From the music to the lovely decor and the absolutely devine Lamb rack, Big Moe's is a place you must try! PABEL reserved the Cadillac seat which we dined in while listening to Pretty Woman playing in the background and friendly in-restaurant service from SADIK & HUSSAIN. Thanks guys for the excellent service!
Be the first to ReplyLovely food. Great atmosphere.
My husband and I went for dinner at Big Moe's during our recent trip to London.
The food was great, I LOVED the interior design that matched the American diner vibe to a tee.
Conveniently close to Aldgate East Tube Station and the Jack the Ripper Walking Tour. If you are on the tour, definitely visit Big Moe's Diner!
Tired and tatty
We visited this restaurant as a family one lunchtime.
We realised we'd made a mistake before even entering as there was a huge pile of smelly rubbish stacked right outside the front door and we just knew this wasn't going to be good.
I had booked ahead and told them it was for a birthday but when we arrived the guy didn't bother to check our booking and just said sit anywhere.
We looked around and it definitely wasn't as nice as the photos.
The seats were all ripped or worn down to the foam and we wandered around looking for somewhere half decent to sit.
The same guy came over and told us that they don't have menus. You have to download an app onto your phone and order from there. Hmmm very authentic 50's.....
The restaurant was freezing cold and we noticed all the other customers had their coats on (as did we). I asked the lady manager if she had noticed it was cold and she said she would go and check the heating. We never saw her again.
When our food arrived it was not pleasant. Out of 4 of us I was the only one to finish my meal.
I didn't realise that all of the meat is halal.
Halal dietary guidelines means pork is forbidden which would explain why they put thin strips of chicken in with their burgers instead of bacon(!)
We sat wrapped up in our coats and finished what we could.
I was the only one brave enough to visit the (one) toilet they have for all customers and predictably it was filthy and smelly.
Overall it was a very disappointing experience and wanted to hurry up and leave.
It was also extremely expensive (nearly £100 for 1x nachos 4x burgers and 4x milkshakes).
If you are looking for an all singing, all dancing authentic 50s American diner in London this is not the place for you. This is just a cheap and nasty knock off.
Great experience at Big Moe's Diner
Big Moe’s Diner is a short walk from Aldgate East tube along Whitechapel High Street. We visited on a Saturday evening and when we arrived it was extremely busy and told that there was a last minute rush but a place was found to sit at the counter and we were made to feel very welcome.
A lot of time and effort has been put in to make the restaurant feel as authentic as possible and judging by its popularity I can see that this has paid off. There was a good range options on the menu including American classics as well as thick milkshakes and homemade style lemonade.
Although it was busy our meals arrived quite quickly and were well presented and tasty. We had a great experience at Big Moe’s Diner, there was a nice vibe to the place with excellent service from all of the staff members. We hope to visit again soon.
No pork
Decor was fab, American themed with a giant Cadillac for a centre table. However we found the menu to be a bit odd. The bacon and sausage contained no pork, and although there were pancakes on the menu it was disappointing that there was no bacon & maple syrup option. I had the omelette which was great and I'd asked for an ingredient swap (mushrooms instead of tomato) which was made with no problem. So, it was fun, but not really a traditional breakfast menu. Service was good.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent..
