My favorite restaurant in Oakland.
Please bring back brunch! I love a lot of the salads and apps, and could make a meal just of those and dessert. Ordering an app, main and dessert often is too much food for me, but it's always great to have leftovers.

I went here for date night with my partner and we had a blast. 5/5 exquisite food, excellent service, and a warm ambiance. We got a bunch of small plates to share. She loved the Little Gems Salad which had sour oranges and arugula for a unique taste. We both fought over the last bite of the Coriander & Arborio Crusted Oyster Mushrooms which were a great calamari substitute served with an Asian-style sauce. The squash pakora was also fantastic and came with a delicious green sauce. We shared some delicious drinks - she had a Lemmon peppercorn shrub mocktail and I tried a pisco cocktail from the menu. Our mixologist Todd clearly knew what he was doing and was kind enough to chat us up over drinks. He also gave us some complimentary focaccia (definitely an interesting take on focaccia). I asked for some candy cap salsa on the side because I've heard good things and they indulged. I would definitely come back to try the pumpkin Gordita or some other entrees like the cauliflower steak! I have never eaten so many vegetables in so many different ways and value the creativity of the chef!
Be the first to ReplyThis is one of the best restaurants in the world.
Very good vegan & vegetarian food with a revolving menu and a price fixed menu as well. Great mocktails & deserts. Great service. Parking on the street. We have been coming here for years We've had lunch & dinner, & have had their price fixed menus & a la carte. My wife and & honestly have liked everything they have ever served.
Be the first to ReplyFood and service were both amazing.
We will definitely be back. Nice and cozy for a date night.

The food here is amazing! This is a 5 star vegan fine dining restaurant. To start off we were served focaccia bread with side marinated mushrooms, olives, garlic, and bok choy long with homemade pumpkin rosemary butter ( forgot all the ingredients). By themselves they were good but together it was a palette pleaser. The pre fix dinner included a salad/appetizer, entree, and dessert. In had the seared Gai Lan with chili oil it was delicious each bite was balanced in flavor the chili was not over powering and I could taste an equal balance of seasoning, greens, and chili. Next up I chose the Cauliflower steak with Etouffee and mashed potatoes. The cauliflower was cooked to perfection and the crust was well seasoned. The crust was not too thin or thick. Each bite had the perfect creole flavor. Lastly, I had the Earl Grey Chocolate cake & this was an experience in itself! The texture of the chocolate was creamy like mousse but more solid. The crust was delicious like a golden graham cracker but not as sweet, and the topping of nuts that tasted like the most amazing nut brittle! Together the it was nothing like I have ever tasted since transition long to veganism. I could have eaten the dessert for all 3 courses. The service was suburb! The staff was friendly and I noticed at least 5 different staff members checking in to ensure we were ok. The service was nothing short of 5 star dining with casualness of the Berkeley/Bay Area making it an absolutely beautiful time! One of the staff thanked us for coming in! The ambiance is happy hour meets dining with a vibe that you can only get in the Bay! Funky, fresh, friendly, and very clean! I do not know how they do it but the food and service remain remarkable throughout the years! Vegan or not this is a place you don't want to miss out on! Pre fixe dinner is $70 per person and well worth it! There are many more dishes and options to choose from too many to mention.

We went on a Friday night, the restaurant was full and the ambience was good. We had a reservation so we were seated right away. And it's pretty much all downhill from that point on. Service: definitely one of the worst service experience I've had anywhere. No one was rude but it was very lackluster in almost every way. On Friday nights they have a prix-fixe menu only, which includes an amuse bouche (same one for every table that night), and we could choose one from each list of options they had for appetizer, main course, and dessert. We waited for 10 minutes before the front of house staff (not our waiter) approached us and asked what we wanted to drink. Then we waited another 10 minutes before we were served the amuse bouche, with our menus still on the table because our waiter still hadn't taken our orders. Finally, 5 minutes later, the waiter came and took our order. I appreciate them trying to speed things up by serving the amuse bouche, but it went to show how ridiculous the wait was. Later after our main course, some staff cleared our table and set it up for dessert. While we were waiting for our dessert, our waiter came and asked if we had already had our main course..?? And finally the straw that broke the camels back (I literally started laughing when this happened), when I got the check back to tip and sign, they didn't give me a pen... and I had to flag down someone else to give me a pen. Food: I thought it was mediocre at best. There were a few highlights but for the price, I would probably have literally preferred to eat anywhere else. The amuse bouche was most definitely not an amuse bouche. We got a big plate of bread with some toppings to go with it. The pumpkin sauce was good, but again, it was big it was messy it was oily - not an amuse bouche. They are very creative with ingredient usage, which I appreciated. You don't get to see a lot of the ingredients or ingredient combinations used at other restaurants. Whether the creativity led to good taste is another topic. The chocolate bar dessert I got was very salty, saltier than the main course, to the point where I wondered if they accidentally used salt instead of sugar. My girlfriend tried it and agreed. The waitstaff handled the situation well and did offer us another dessert item to take home. They said the dessert chef tried the chocolate bar in the kitchen and said it's how it's supposed to taste, which we were a little baffled by. Not sure if it was just ours that was salty, but from the fact that the table behind us also sent back half of the chocolate bar uneaten, I'd say we weren't the only ones. Overall definitely a dinner to forget. From the other glowing reviews I hope they were just having an off night of being understaffed or something. Hope the experience for other customers is better but we won't be back.

Millennium restaurant is an impressive establishment that offers a unique experience for dining. Adele was our server. She was patient with informing us on the details of each item on the menu and made excellent recommendations. Her outstanding customer service alone made our visit here better than great. For the first course, we had the Amuse. It consisted of a soft focaccia bread, a creamy sauce that reminded me of hummus, mushrooms, and Kalamata olives. I would give it a 7/10. We also got Orange Creamsicle drinks. They were bitter which I usually don't care for, but for some reason really enjoyed. I would give them a 7/10 as well. For the second course, we got the Coriander and Arborio Crusted Mushrooms and the Artichoke and Potato Croquette. The mushrooms reminded me of calamari. I would give them a 10/10. The croquette came with a sauce that made this dish unlike anything I've had before. I would give it a 9/10. For the third course we got the Millennium Burger and the Masa Gordita. The burger was the best burger I've ever had in my life! It was cheesy, meaty, and extremely abundant in portion. I would give it a 10/10. The Masa Gordita was like the croquette with regards to tasting like something I've never had before. The masa portion of the meal was thick and filling. I especially loved all of the seasonings in the sauce that came underneath the masa. I would give it a 9/10. For the Fourth course, we had all of the three offered deserts. The Mango Cake reminded me of corn bread and or pound cake. I loved that it was paired with a coffee ice cream. It was rich and sweet with each bite. I would give it a 10/10. The tiramisu was different. I thought the peanuts on top gave it a different flavor from the expected taste of regular tiramisu. I would give it a 7/10. The Salted Milk Chocolate Tart kind of reminded me of a snickers. I enjoyed the cherry sauce it came with. I would give it a 8/10. Overall, this place is a must try and felt more like an experience rather than just a restaurant to get dinner. I was so thankful I got to indulge here.

I've come to Millenium many times on special occasions, making the hour + drive from the South Bay. Very disappointed in the experience of their special dinner service tonight. I made reservations for 8pm and didn't get sat until 8:41pm. For a set menu that costed over $400 (after tax + tip) for two people, I'd hoped for more reliable scheduling. It would have helped if the staff was at all apologetic about it, but we were just ignored for 40 minutes until we asked again.
Be the first to ReplyThird time here with several new dishes to enjoy.
They always manage to find interesting and complex flavor combinations that may not match your palette, but are certainly worth trying. This time it was a Kale & White Bean Soup ($9, "soup of the moment"), Masa Gnocchi ($25, don't know that the texture of masa works in a gnocchi context), Pecan BBQ Tempeh ($26, excellent), Brik Purse ($27, great). Their dessert was exquisite, a Chocolate Mont Blanc ($14, would recommend getting a side of their sesame ice cream) with a number of flavors that all complemented well.
Be the first to ReplyGreat on all counts.
.. innovative, delicious, spot -on service... the cocktails, tomato/onion soup, vegan burger ( shared) and deserts were all wonderful and were worth the $100 Uber rides from SF and back

Wanting to have a more plant-based diet, an acquaintance highly recommended Millennium. Reserving a space is easily done through Rezy and I was able to get two seats at the bar a couple days in advance. The tables and patio were all reserved. Dining at the bar was quite pleasant as the affable Chris not only tended the bar (entertaining), but he took care of us from the amuse bouche to the dessert. Although my dining companion and I ordered the prix fixe dinner, there are still choices to be made. For cocktails, my dining companion ordered a Lovers Lane that had hibiscus mezcal (smoky and fragrant), cassis, aveze, lime, cava and bouquet sugar. To those who can imbibe in alcohol, I would recommend this drink. Amuse Bouche Chef's ChoiceHouse-made Focaccia with Carrot Butter, Pickled Gai Lan, Red Wine Marinated Mushrooms and Olive - I was amazed how everything went well together and I was afraid of missing real dairy butter, but after tasting the carrot butter, I forgot dairy butter existed.Second CourseCoriander and Arborio Crusted Oyster Mushroom (gluten-free) with Calabrian chile-Meyer lemon -caper aioli and lemon cabbage slaw - I could have made a meal of this aloneGold Beet & Blood Orange Salad (gluten-free) - the combination of textures and tastes made this salad memorableThird CourseSweet Soy Glazed Tempeh (gluten-free) with pineapple nasi goreng fried rice - again the combination of textures and flavors of all the different ingredients surprised my palate. Although I liked the flavors of this dish, it proved to have more spice than I could handle. If I ordered this again, I would ask for less spice.Panko Crusted Kohlrabi Steak with creamy polenta (gluten-free) - I've had kohlrabi before, but not as innovative as this one.Fourth CourseCoconut Sundae - non-dairy ice cream that tasted like it had dairy, a welcome relief after my spicy nasi gorengGianduja Tart (gluten-free) - contained TCHO chocolate that was dark and richFrom beginning to end, everything was well prepared. Service by Chris was unrushed and personable.
Be the first to ReplyMillennium is probably one of the best vegan restaurants
Millennium is probably one of the best vegan restaurants I've ever been to. It is a Michelin guided restaurant for a reason and it did not disappoint at all. I came here with my cousin and her husband last Friday night with a reservation. We had a reservation for 8:45 PM, but we were able to be seated about 20 mins early. Since we came at restaurant week, we had a set menu that we could choose from out of 4 options except for the first course. The three of us tried basically whatever I attached to this review, but I think my favorite was the risotto cake that our server recommended. All in all though, the food was fantastic and definitely worth the price point. The general vibe of this place is great as well. Didn't really feel like we were out of place or anything and our server made sure that we were well taken care of. The lighting also made it easy for us to take proper photos of the food. All in all. The millennium is an incredible experience that I highly recommend. I can see myself coming back here again someday. You'll have to pay a pretty penny for the food itself, but I definitely believe that it is well worth it.

Made an 8:30pm reservation for Sunday night and got seated right on time. They had a $65 pre fixe menu for Oakland Restaurant Week. We started off with the chef's choice of olives, mushrooms, bread, carrot spread, and pickled daikon. The carrot spread was really good. Then we got the Chickpeas Panisse and Coriander & Arborio Crusted Oyster Mushrooms. Both were yummy though the oyster mushrooms stood out as exceptionally well fried (perfectly coated, non greasy, and gluten free)! Next courses were the Seared Risotto Cake and Sweet Soy Glazed Tempeh. The Seared Risotto Cake was my favorite dish of the night - love the cook on the mushrooms and broccoli romanesco, rice cake was crunchy on outside and soft on inside, cashew sauce was rich and creamy, salad was refreshing, Highly recommend this dish! Unfortunately, the tempeh tasted a bit grainy to me and I didn't enjoy it as much. Dessert was the Gianduja tart and Coconut sundae. If you like chocolate, you will enjoy the chocolate ganache (as my friend did). Coconut sundae had a really light and airy coconut jam ice cream that was delicious but also a bit too sweet for me.The service is excellent - staff were consistently checking in to make sure we had enough hot water and the food was good. Ambiance was perfect - good lighting and noise level wasn't too loud so you don't have to yell to have a conversation. Overall, 4.5/5 stars! I would recommend trying Millennium if you are looking for solid vegan food, especially since we didn't even notice we didn't have any meat during our meal. We felt full and satisfied.
Be the first to ReplyMy wife is moving towards vegetarianism for health reasons
My wife is moving towards vegetarianism for health reasons and so we came to Millenium on the recommendation of an acquaintance. He had told us it helped convince him he could go from being a total meat eater to a lot more veggie centric diet. I can see that now that we have eaten here. We came here to celebrate my wife's birthday. The prices are not that bad for a better restaurant like this one, which is featured in the book "East Bay Chefs". It was $65/ea for the pre fixe dinner. I went with the beet and blood orange salad, kohlrabi steak panko fried, and the hazelnut chocolate torte (gianduja) as my choices. My wife chose the coriander and Arborio crusted oyster mushrooms, portobello mushroom shawarma, and the coconut sundae for dessert. We shared (we are super light drinkers) a "Lovers Lane" cocktail, which is smoked Mezcal based. We loved everything! All plates cleaned before we were done. Overall, I was impressed with the taste and presentation of the food being great in an absolute sense, vs. "really good for vegetarian". My salad was super, and the rice paper with seaweed allowed me to make a small sushi roll by stuffing some salad fixings in them and eating the resulting hand roll. Great! My main course was crunchy and flavorful. I especially loved the polenta, which was so creamy and buttery. The gianduja torte was fantastic along with the accompanying scoop of ice cream. Really loved the toasted hazelnuts! Our cocktail was great, and it is a treat watching Chris the bartender do his thing. No blenders here. He uses shakers, strainers and his strong arms to bring the concoctions to life. My wife's food was great, especially the deep fried oyster mushrooms. The shawarma was meaty even though it was done with mushrooms. It is not that someone would be "fooled" by it, but it was substantial enough to be satisfying to chew. Loved the staff. A handy hint is to make reservations and think about sitting at the bar instead of a table so you can see Chris make drinks. Going for an early (5pm) dinner also helps with parking as well as seating. Enjoy!

Best vegetarian restaurant I've ever been to and one of the best dinners in general. Flavors are executed well and work together fantastically. If this were my last meal, I'd be happy.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service and cocktails the bar.
Shared two entrees (get the burger!), the best salad (awesome) and two starters with a friend. Loved it all. For sure get the focaccia bread - and the carrot dip it comes with rocks.

Delicious ASS black bean burger but with tip the total was $29!!! The atmosphere is nice. Service is cool. I would come bag to eat anything they make. I would just need to be prepared to SPEND THE BAG.
Be the first to ReplyI went for a solo date to Millennium.
I am a big consumer of innovative food ideas that take us away from animal meat and capitalistic monopoly on our food choices. I was pleased to find that ideology reflected on Millenniums menu. All the dishes sounded very grounding (all vegetarian) and I give bonus points when there are ingredients or names of foods on the menu that I know nothing about. Millennium offered intriguing ingredients even on their drinks/cocktail menu. It felt like a safe place for a solo date--no frills, no judgment, loving dialogue. I took home some dark chocolate dessert back for my partner. Will be back with again!
Be the first to ReplyGood lord everything here is just delicious.
It doesn't even matter what you get.The staff are also incredibly kind, Saoirse our server was on top of everything. Thank you Millennium, we'll be back for a third round and many more :)
Be the first to ReplyI've been to this restaurant a few times though this was
I've been to this restaurant a few times though this was our first at the Oakland location. Bar was great, Food was good, but service was lacking. It took over 10 minutes to be greeted by our server (ordinarily, I would have walked out because of this) and the meal itself took over two hours for a 3 course, pre fixe meal. The whole idea behind the pre fixe menu is so that the kitchen can crank things out with a limited number of items to prepare and this just didn't happen. I give three stars for the quality bar and food flavor. I took two stars for the slow service and lack of promptness by the server. When you're spending $70 a head you just expect more than what Millennium is offering. Don't think I'll be back for a long time, if ever. It's just not worth another try at the current price point. As an aside, don't sit at the community table when it's cold outside as it's located right by the front door and you constantly get hit by very cold air when the weather isn't nice.
