This place is just hands down one of the best DC has to offer. I've never had a dish that wasn't absolutely delicious! I cannot say enough about how delicious the lamb shoulder was.

Came here for a special occasion a few years ago and did the tasting menu for 2 with the ribeye selection. The interior was gorgeous. Food was divine and service was perfect. We had a sommelier guide us through the wine menu. The portions were extremely generous, and we took some home. The entree on the tasting menu only came with couscous which I love, but my partner preferred it came with rice. Word of mouth is portions have shrunk with inflation rising over the years. I have also heard it is better to do the tasting menu with an even number of people (you get less food with an odd number).

To start on a positive note, the service was very good, and the food was enjoyable, but for me, the place was too noisy and too dark. This is senior-citizen perspective, and if you have better ears and eyes, you won't face these issues. We sat in maybe the annex, (a sign said 'medina') at a long table near the bar. We had the prix fixe offerings. Quite a mess of spoons, plates, and cutlery.

A good friend of mine invited me here for dinner and it was quite lovely! I will start by saying, the decor inside is BEAUTIFUL with tons of ample seating! Service was quick and very patient! We tried a few different dips (hummus, the red pepper dip) and they both were great! Was a huge fan of the chicken kebabs with two of the spicier dipping sauces. The food came out SUPER fast (like a little too fast and very filling). Would definitely stop in again if I'm in the area.

We had an excellent dining experience! My husband and I came for date night. The decor gave me that Riad vibe and old Moroccan decor. The food was prepared well and flavorful and service was attentive with good recommendations too. Hummus- creamy and tasty Asparagus-flavorful, I like the seasoning but my husband would have preferred it with less add-ons Potato- the sweet potato is huge! Halloumi cheese-omg! Stand out so delicious Ribeye- (shared) medium rare was tender, yum! We had no more room for dessert. But we will definitely return. Great dining experience! Come hungry because it's a lot of food. My husband and I went with ordering Ala cart rather than twale.

This was our second visit to Maydan (our first visit was when they still had their star), and overall still absolutely recommend getting a reservation here! I'll start by giving a huge kudos to the host staff, I called because one member of our party was stuck in traffic and running very late, and they offered to move our reservation back 30 minutes with absolutely no issues. Given so many restaurants these days have no flexibility with lateness, it was hugely appreciated. Our service at our previous visit was notably outstanding, this time it was just good. Our waitress was handling a massive table as well, so it was very understandable, but it was a noticeable difference to us this time. We did appreciate the complimentary bubbles that they brought given we were celebrating a birthday! As for the most important part - the food! The mushrooms continue to be the absolute star of the show, next time we'll be doing 2 orders, they're that special! The shrimp was also a highlight, perfectly cooked. We also really enjoyed the corn salad they had as a special, although it was definitely on the spicy side! The swordfish belly had been a previous favorite, but was unfortunately a bit dry this time, still great flavor though. We also ordered the whole chicken and it was great, truly like no chicken I've ever had - however, it is the one hot dish that's not cooked on the hearth if that is important to you! The hummus is a must order, but I'd skip the condiments - everything is already sauced/seasoned so well, we didn't feel they were needed at all. We went as a group of three, and I do recommend NOT doing the Tawle if you can. You're able to get much more diversity of food, and for us we prioritized much more of the actual "from the fire" options versus the Tawle that focuses more on the cold foods/spreads/sauces. Come hungry, order more than you need, and take home some of the best leftovers you'll ever have!

The food was amazing, the vibes were great, and our waitress Hailey made the experience all the better. Her warm smile, candid recommendations, and genuine attentiveness was unmatched.

Been dying to try this restaurant for a couple years, due to all the accolades. It did not disappoint. While Bazaar Meats in Vegas is still my number 1 seed, Maydan comes in at a strong #2 and is without a doubt the best veggie meal I've ever had. We did the Tawle menu which i highly recommend, but be sure to come on an empty stomach. Everything from the service, the decor, and food was top notch. Highlights include the spreads, Halloumi, Chickpeas, and the Califlower entree was deliciously tender and cooked to perfection. Highly recommend the cocktails, in particular the espresso martini. Can't wait to come back again.

My fiancée has raved about Maydan many times, and I can't blame him; the food is indeed delicious! We went there for my birthday. The fish and salad were my favorites. I highly recommend Maydan; the staff were amazing, and the décor was beautiful.
Service horrible, food great.
As soon as walked in, there wasn't a comfort feeling that we welcomed. Finally had someone escort us to our table, he didn't say follow me, just took off. He stopped at the stairs to talk to another server and than proceeded to go up. Didn't say again follow me so we were unsure if he just forgot he was taking us up. We saw our friends so jay walked to the table, and he just walked the other way.. no customer service like here is your table or a simply "enjoy". Main server comes, I asked a question about a drink and in a rude way says not we don't do that, with. Face of disgust. I said let my friend order frost than, he orders and then she runs away, didn't take my order. We were all like what just happened. She brings the drink and I asked so can I order. She leans in like I was a child, hands on knees and says yes you may. The most condescending treatment ever at a high end restaurant. Entire table again was like what just happened. I basically said If I am not welcomed then maybe I should leave and let you all dine. One person went to the manager who came back with a drink and said he felt there was miscommunication and Immediately said nooooo she was just rude! We were given another server and finished our dinner. I wouldn't say that server was any better at making us feel welcomed but just did the job. We all had just come NYC, (a rude city) but felt welcomed in any higher end restaurant..,. This was not the case here. We all kinda felt it was an example of why automatic service charges shouldn't be included, the service goes way way down. While the food and atmosphere was awesome, the service really put a damper on the evening. I won't go back anytime soon.
Early Valentine's
We made reservations at Resy. We asked for a table downstairs. We went there. The host is so nice. We were there at 5:15pm. We got the table downstairs as we requested. It was a nice comer table. The lady came to greet us. Give us the information and explain the menu to us. Then our server came. Antonio was very nice. He took care of us very well. Food was excellent. We will come back again. We did the Tawle menu with the Lamb shoulder and added Grilled Branzino.
Great food, unpleasant ambience
The reviews that precede extol the food, and with good reason. I'll let other enthusiasts rave and and I'll second their opinions — about the food. However: We will not be returning to Maydan nor will we be recommending it to friends. In spite of the exceptional food, the evening was an uncomfortable one in every other way. First, the volume of the music and the crowd: Loud, with each musical selection featuring the incessant pounding of a bass drum. I've been home for an hour and my ears are still ringing. We were a group of four and had to yell across the table to be heard, as did those seated at every other table in the packed house. I cannot recall eating in a LOUDER environment. To me, the decibel level was comparable to that of an enthusiastic crowd at a sporting event. Second, the lighting: The lighting is so dim the menus cannot be read without a flashlight. I understand the atmosphere they're going for, but I been in dimly lit restaurants before that offered illuminated menus. Even a menu accessible by QR code would have been preferable. This was particularly onerous as the food is not familiar to most and the wine list is both exotic and detailed. As the menu is several pages, front and back, attached to a clipboard, juggling a cellphone flashlight along with the multiple pages was both challenging and unpleasant. Third, the service: At most high end restaurants, particularly at those where the offerings are on the exotic side, the service staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Our waiter may have been knowledgeable, but his recommendations, descriptions, and answers to questions were terse, ambiguous and even self-contradictory. Admittedly, he did have to speak over a din that had become startling by the time we ordered, so we shrugged our shoulders and did the best we could. Fourth, the chairs: Even as a long-waisted six-footer, I was startled to find when I sat down that the table was uncomfortably high. The chair itself was of a type one would be more likely to be found poolside at a motel than in a find dining establishment. So in spite of the unquestionably terrific food, the night was an uncomfortable one, both literally and figuratively. I couldn't wait to get out of there.
Don't be fooled by a Michelin star and interior design.
I moved to D.C. in September and had been itching to eat at Maydan for months. I was thrilled to secure a reservation for a best friend reunion dinner at 8:00 PM on a Wednesday. After hearing so much hype, I expected to become a regular customer, but I left extremely disappointed and would not recommend Maydan. I noted in my reservation that it was a special occasion and hoped we’d be seated in the main area of the restaurant, which I’ve heard is beautiful. Instead, we were seated upstairs in a corner near the stairwell at a table meant for six. Two of us arrived early to enjoy a drink at the bar, which was nice, but when the rest of our party joined, we waited 15 minutes before asking someone to send our server. Our waitress finally came without menus for the second half of our group. She didn’t introduce herself or welcome us—she simply asked what we wanted to drink. We shared a menu from the end of the table and quickly ordered as she stood there, offering no insight or suggestions, which was odd for an "upscale" Michelin-starred restaurant. The appetizers were good but served in very small portions. We ordered 6–7 plates for four people, and none of the food remained. The shrimp dish had only 5–6 pieces, just enough for one shrimp per person. Similarly, the chicken portion was tiny, comparable to a 6-piece chicken nugget meal split between four. The pita bread was stale and hard, though we ate it out of hunger. Service remained inattentive. Our waitress checked on drinks once while we still had full glasses, then didn’t return until the meal was nearly over. After our plates were cleared, we waited to leave but had to flag her down for the check. When it came, the bill was $89 per person, and one card was missing. The waitress didn’t mention the 20% automatic tip included in the check, which I only noticed by reading the fine print. Despite the poor service, we almost tipped again on top of the included gratuity. We searched for the missing card, checking our bags and wallets, but it was nowhere to be found. The register was 15 feet away, so we were confused. When we asked the waitress, she said she hadn’t received a fourth card and had only charged three. We all ended up on the floor with flashlights, looking for it. The manager arrived and, in a curt tone, said, “We’re looking for it, but don’t know where it is.” His lack of accountability or apology was frustrating, and he seemed annoyed to be involved. Neither he nor the server asked for our contact information in case it turned up. Eventually, the hostess found the card on the floor near another table. She was the only staff member who handled the situation well. Afterward, our server apologized, but the manager didn’t. He helped search for about five minutes, then walked away. We left feeling extremely let down. Our friend, who once considered Maydan her favorite restaurant, was especially disappointed. I rarely write reviews, but I hope this saves others from being fooled by a Michelin star.
Great food
Finally came here after lots of hype from friends. We did the towle experience (basically a tasting menu) and were presented with so many dishes. The food was great! So many vegetarian dishes which were all very flavorful. We chose the ribeye as our entree and it was a great choice! Dessert was a letdown. Also, this restaurant is LOUD - especially in the bathroom.
Good food and great atmosphere but very expensive.
Our son managed to book a table for us when we visited from the UK. The place is quite hard to get a reservation for and is well reviewed thanks to its Michelin star. The place is down an alley and there is no signing outside, just a big blue door. The inside is absolutely buzzing and lively, and the massive grill area on show provides a great focal point of activity. We dined upstairs overlooking the ground floor grill, which is a little quieter but still very busy. The menu is great and the service attentive. The food? Well, it's typical Lebanese/Middle Eastern food, admittedly with a lot more pizzazz but there's only so much you can do with it. There's no point in making it pretty as it defeats the object, and it doesn't lend itself to very much creativity or subtlety ('Masterchef' it ain't), so you just have to go with it (but take my advice and don't fill up on bread and 'meze' to start). You'll probably have a great time here - we did! - but then you'll get the bill and think - really?! Is it that much better than other middle-eastern restaurants at half the price? You be the judge.
When you want an overall beautiful experience, come to Maydān!
I enjoyed the most fabulous wine dinner with the guests and staff of Maydān. Everything from the warm greeting upon arrival, to the professionalism of every member of the staff, to the delicious Middle Eastern assortment of courses and beautifully paired wines of Ch Musar, was perfect! I could not recommend this restaurant more highly! When you want a beautiful experience - come to Maydān!
Top Class Food and Service
Whenever i visit DC this is a must stop. Just does not stop disapointing and this time one of our dishes was delayed inordinately ( suspect order was nor placed)and the manager comped without even asking. This is service. The food - cabbage grilled , kebab, haloumi. Just everything on the menu coupled with an ambience. The bar tenders excellent attitude. ;one tip avoid the breads and hoummous. The food is too good to fill up with breads
First class Middle East food
I’ve visited most Middle East and North African countries. I have never eaten there as good food as they serve in Maydan. Restaurant is located at the end of an alley. No name on the door. It looks very nice inside. Athmospehe is very relaxed. Tasting menu had one set of cold and one set of warm apetizers. There were at least 10 altogether, all excellent. Main course is to be selected from fish, chicken, lamb or beef. I took fish. It was good and big. Service was efficient and friendly. Rather extensive wine list with some exotic wines too. Only drawback was excess food. I couldn’t eat half of it. Since only visiting the city there was no use for doggybag. I hope someone in need got it.
20% extra ‘non tip’ spoilt the experience!!!
The food and service was very good but it is crazy that they add 20% which is not a tip. In my view it is just not right and if they want to charge 20% more they should add it to the prices. It’s a shame because this spoilt what had been a very good experience.
My second time here and I won't be back.
Server did not explain how the menu works I asked for one Tawle since I was here for New Year's Eve I had the Tawle experience but for my friend was her first time. We order one Tawle with branzino as a main course. I wanted to try the lamb shoulder but I did not ask for the price. We ended up with a $400 bill. The Tawle is listed for $75.00 per person online and at the restaurant but it's actually $85.00 they charge $20 per person for the lamb and $85 the branzino a la cart server said that it was more convenient to me be billets that way. The lamb shoulder a la cart was $120 and I paid $125. In reality we paid more that way. In top of that they charge you 20% gratuity. This is not the tip for the server, it is 8% to paid benefits or better wages to the stuff and 12% goes to a pull for the front of the house employees. In top of that you get taxed on that gratuity as well. The server told us that we were his favorite guest that we order the Tawle plus the lamb- (inside me I doubt this was a positive comment) we were ready for the check when he explained the two desserts they had that day. That they were included with our Tawle experience. That they were free for us ( I saw desserts are $12.00 each) we had only one he even said we could have them to go. So it was clear that he knew we overpaid our dinner. We were shocked when we saw the bill, this has never ever happen to me. I also used to work as a waitress and this guy first should explain that the Tawle experience cannot be order only for one person. They give you the same amount of food I had when I came by myself. They had prefix menu for New Year's Eve and I was so impressed since it was a good price for the amount of food. But when I spoke with the front staff the said that I had a good deal when I came by myself. This time I paid doble for the same food I had a few months ago. Food was delicious, service was behind this time. Plus we had a young server only caring for how much the bill could be rather than taking care of the customer. No suggestions no warning us that the way we want to order was going to be very expensive. He only was saying that was a lot of food and yes I knew I was here before but not wanting to paid $400.00 before you go to this restaurant study the menu as question and ask about all the extra charges they do. 20% to provide better wages for their employees but they charge you for even more from what it says in their menu. We left shocked! Disappointed and upset. Not coming back and making sure my friends don't visit this place. Parking is not easy so really not a place that worth the visit.
Amazing food and atmosphere, highly recommend going if you
Amazing food and atmosphere, highly recommend going if you can get in! The bar is a great option if you can't make a reservation, we just walked in on a random week day and got seats at the bar after only a few minutes of waiting. Lamb shoulder and kebabs are amazing!
This is hands down my favorite restaurant in DC.
Like this is the one spot I will recommend everyone to go to and I will take my out of state visitors to. It is just that good. Food: 12/10, food is excellent. The star of the night was the Spring Hummus and the Charred Zucchini. I still dream about the Spring Hummus, it is so delicate and just perfect blend of flavor and texture. I did not have a drink but my friends did and they both enjoyed theirs. Service: 10/10, amazing hospitality and service. All the staff . Our waiter knew which orders we have gotten and are still waiting on and make sure we are good throughout the night. Vibe: 10/10, cutest layout and decor. When you walk in, you are greeted in a dark and small room, but will be taken to behind a very cute door that opens up to the hearth and a spacious dining space. I booked this ahead right when the reservation opens up. This place gets completely booked so I would recommend planning ahead.
Maydan has really tasty food.
HOWEVER- I don't see anyone in these reviews speaking about the 20% service charge they add to bills that is NOT counted as a tip towards your server. I found on Reddit that last year it was 8%- now it is 20%??? That literally feels illegal. I enjoyed my meal but I won't be back due to this asinine charge for no good reason. It isn't even on the menu!!! Also, our ribeye (which is $75) was late AND showed up rare. I love medium rare but the thing was still practically blue. Disappointing for price point.
What a phenomenal experience.
From beginning to end everything was delicious for my wife's birthday. Can't wait to return when we're back in dc.
Such a great experience.
Awesome ambience, great service and the food was out of this world! We got the tasting menu. The kids got the chicken kabob, lamb kabob and shrimp kabob and all were good. The appetizers, second dish and dessert were to die for. I got the rib eye and it was ok... the server recommended it medium rare but I should have gotten it medium. But overall everything was smacking! Even the bathroom was cute! Must eat for sure.
One of the top restaurants in DC.
Very hard to find because it's literally in an alley with secret door. We were first to arrive at restaurant about 10 minutes early and was told to wait. Promptly at 5 we opened the door again and the staff were just standing there - weird! They escorted us to table upstairs in a corner at a high top, we refused because we had reservations weeks in advanced and why the worst table in the house. He had to go back downstairs and then tried seating us at another bad table, we refused and we suggested a table and he asked again and we were seated. Again we were first- weird! The place is dark and choppy. Food is good but not great. We ordered the sampler with the branzino and chicken. The flavors are good and ingredients are fresh. 20 percent is automatically added to bill and that is not the gratuity per the receipt. We usually tip 20 -25 percent but they want an additional 20 percent for wait staff-greedy!
Good food and ambiance.
Tip: choose your own adventure, no need to do the set menu if you are looking for a unique experience

I stopped in to Maydān for dinner on my own as I was at a conference. I was able to walk in and get a seat at the bar. The food was amazing. The service, impeccable. Daniel is a bartender, par excellence. He made me an old fashioned, that I was honestly prepared to hate. The drink was bought for me, and I literally avoid whiskey drinks. (Ask my husband.) Anyway, it was so delicious I ordered another. He suggested the Walnut Casio when I couldn't decide on a spread, and it was out of this world. I'm truly not exaggerating! I also had the roasted beets and halloumi. So delicious! (Check my other reviews. I'm not always this effusive.) I'll definitely be back.
I've never had a bad meal here.
I don't even like dessert and loved their pavlova with lebneh and pomegranate. Obsessed with the roasted beet spread. Great venue. Beautifully served dishes.
Mandatory 20% which was not the tip!!!
Had a wonderful meal with great service but was shocked when the bill came and was noted that a mandatory 20% “not tip or gratuity”!!!!! So now we are at a 40% over and above the bill? That is insane!!!! Not sure how you justify this non gratuity 20% ???

We had a truly outstanding meal this evening with a couple of friends. Excellent service, knowledgeable but not cloying). Not a single dish on the table d'hote menu (tawle) that I did not like - only there was too much of it (so much came home for lunches and dinners to come). Nice drinks menu with beers and wines and cocktails. Want to try everything again, and try some things that are on the a la carte menu that were not on the tawle menu One small gripe -- a friend and I each grabbed reservations for four and both got them. The host was glad to allow us to cancel one (you have to put a credit card down) but somehow we ended up outside rather than inside, and although there are heaters we found ourselves bit chilled.

Been there first when it opened a few years ago, the food was exceptionally good. Been there today and I'm very disappointed. The food was less than average. Poor meat quality. Tasteless Toum sauce. Too bad for a Michelin star restaurant. I hope they won't lose it.
One word.
Amazing! Staff was on point, atmosphere was warm and inviting, and food was amazing
Some of the best food we've ever had.
The service was so quick and everyone was friendly and provided wonderful insight to the food. We ordered the tawle menu and from the get go each dip and spread was perfect. We both loved the cheese dish and the chicken. Dessert was a nice light finish to a filling meal. The ambiance was welcoming and surprisingly causal with an upbeat and open vibe. We absolutely recommend anyone in the area check it out and we'll be returning soon.

i dont get the hype of maydan; especially as a mediterranean person myself. i ve tried Maydan multiple times; and each time the staff mostly have some attitude. the atmosphere is cute. the drinks are okay the lamb dish tastes the best but smells heavy (cuz its lamb, duh). i think all the meze's were a bit 'whatever' every time i dined there. not bad; but nothing special either. my last order included muhammara, casik, halloumi and lamb shoulder
Before I get into what an incredible meal and dining
Before I get into what an incredible meal and dining experience, my two cons. One, I booked this meal maybe 3 weeks prior to going and the Tawle experience was listed at $75. When we got there we were told it was $85. I didn't bring it up cause I wanted a nice evening of no fuss. Not sure if there was a miscommunication or they increased their menu by $10 (almost 15%) in that time span. The other con is their 8% gratuity charge. The description for it on their menu is vague and gratuity charges are rarely done right. A required gratuity charge to make up for management's failure to pay their staff a living wage should not be something customers are responsible for. What an INCREDIBLE dining experience!!! Maydan has been on my list for a while and I got their cookbook about a month ago and have been trying their stuff out at home, but nothing could've prepared me for how deliciously filling it was. While a little difficult to the find, discovering their huge, beautiful door tucked into an ally made me feel like I was in on DC's best secret and when you open the door, you're teleported into another word of incredible music and colorful tapestries. We sat inside and I think this is a must! The space is bustling and at the center of their room is a huge huge fire they use to cook their meals, namely, their pita. We sat upstairs. Our staff was so sweet and professional and knowledgeable. They acknowledged our request for vegetarian food from our reservation. We also mentioned it was our anniversary in our reservation, so they brought us a class of non-alcoholic champagne to top of the dinner at the end. The best part was, because we didn't order any alc beverages, he didnt even ask he just assumed we werent drinking felt so personal and thoughtful. Now onto the food. I don't even know where to be begin. Get the Tawle menu so you can everything. The first course is mainly their dips and peeta every single one was perfect and unique. My favorite was the red pepper dip. The halloumi ugh the halloumi was INCREDIBLE i wish we got more. It was warm and sweet and nutty. The picked veggies and the dates were also memorable. By this point I was already at like 85% full! Next was the main dish and we went with the cauliflower and it was so flavorful! It was very spicy and very large. The colors were amazing and I loved every bite of it!! Finally, we got another mix of bowls and selections from their menu which included their carrots, watercress salad, chicken kababs and couscous. The chicken kababs were my favorite thing on the entire menu and despite being almost over full at this point, I ate them all alone, for my partner is a vegetarian and also, I probably wouldn't have shared anyways haha. The salad was also an incredible addition at this point where I was so full and it was very comforting. The couscous is how fall, the season, tastes to a tea. Finally, we got a choice between two desserts and we went with the pomegranate one! It was soft and airy and creamy and the perfect pic for the end of a meal filled with heavy, strong flavors. Noticeably full, the staff boxed up all our leftovers to bring home. The check comes in a book, which as a librarian and bookseller made with yelp with joy it was such a cute touch and people had written tons of notes and compliments to the restaurant all over the book, it was so sweet and fun! Highly recommend Maydan. I'm already looking forward to going back!
A top 5 dining experience.
The food is expertly prepared. It is middle-eastern fare served family style in four courses. Our server, Eli, was attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. We sat outside in a covered well heated tent that was cozy and warm. Outstanding from start to finish.

My husband and I tried Maydan for the first time for Valentine's Day and I cannot wait to go back. Upon entering we were greeted by two friendly hostesses and seated promptly. We had the Valentine's Day menu food and wine pairing. Everything was 5/5 from food to service and staff just perfect! However the highlight of my night was the ribeye steak with green peppercorn sauce (I dream of this!) and the labne pavlova with strawberry and rhubarb coulis such a perfect pairing. Restaurant was dimly lit, clean and perfectly decorated. it was amazing to see the meats being prepared on the open fire. We will be returning to Maydan for sure! I've told alllll my friends about my experience.
The service was incredible.
This place is so good!! You can also snag last minute reservations. The food and ambiance is top tier!
My favorite restaurant in all of DC!!! With lantern
My favorite restaurant in all of DC!!! With lantern lighting, fun tapestries, a fire pit, and other pretty decor, the atmosphere cannot be beat. We ordered from the A La Carte menu, and everything was so perfectly-spiced and truly special. It's a great place to impress visitors or a date - just make sure you book a reservation way in advance.
Top quality ambience, service and food
Wonderful experience. It all begins with a challenge to find the location. Once found it definitely a must visit and repeat. We had no reservation but the warm hostess found a way and seated us at the bar. At the bar dorothy was excellent - non intrusive but yet attentive. The ambience especially in winters is wonderful. The sevice excellent. The food was par par excellenance with the cabbage, prawns and haloumi standout. Avoid much of the starters just stomach fillers. Kudos good job and will be back
Great food and ambiance
When you walk in you know it’s going to be delicious. The air smells of delicious food and the fire grill in the middle of the restaurant is impressive looking. We had the tasting menu with wine pairing. Both were great. Highly recommend this path so you can get a bunch of different things. There are two wine pairings, and we got the more adventurous ones. The wines were good and I’m glad I tried them. Only critique was the pacing of food. The first two courses were well-timed and the third came out too quickly. We were not even halfway through the wine or food from the second course and suddenly the ribeye and next wine arrive. Needed another 10-15 mins. Would definitely come back again.
Great find
Took us a while to find the restaurant hidden down a side street. Restaurant has main cooking area on right, with a few outdoor tables on street and another area indoors on the left which was where we were seated. Food wise - we had the fixed menu of 2 courses of starters (dips, pickled veg, dates and fresh herbs) followed by sea bass and rib eye. My wife thought the rib eye was the best she’d ever had… We chose a Palestine white which was excellent Great restaurant and defo recommend!!
Stand-out Middle Eastern flavours
We’re very used to having Middle Eastern food and wondered how it could be made to stand out; this showed us how! Many of the usual types of dishes but with so much more intensity of flavour and original ideas in ingredients and spicing. We had the tawle menu so had a good range of different treats. Delightful service in a relatively small (but beautifully set out) dining room meant that we were looked after very well all evening without it feeling overbearing or rushed. Highly recommended for anyone who likes this type of food or anyone who hasn’t tried it before!
Extremely good dinner
Very, very good Father’s Day dinner. Service was extremely friend and professional. Ages at my table ranged from 11 to 81 and all enjoyed their experience (ambiance, food, conversation and service). Our first course included Labne, Halloumi and dates (high recommend). Second course Lamb Shish) and roasted eggplant – both highly recommend. Last course was the Ribeye – cooked a perfect medium rare. I very much look forward to our next Maydan meal.
Event Planning Customer Service Experience
If you are looking for a venue to host your next event, I highly suggest Maydan for a low-stress, collaborative experience. While I have yet to have the opportunity to visit Maydan in person, I had a wonderful interaction with the event coordinator and managerial staff. I was disappointed when my organization did not select Maydan to host our event because the staff I had interacted with thus far had been so friendly and helpful; I trust their behavior would've been the same in person.
Flavorful dishes
House made Hummus was very good. Skewer Chicken was tender but with with minimal flavor. Labneh was thick and flavorful. Tabbouleh was made with fresh ingredients. Olives were cinnamon flavored. They were just ok. Staff are very helpful and friendly. Decor is rustic chic. It is a pricey restaurant but you get what you pay for… it is a delightful restaurant in otherwise culinary impaired city like D.C.
Amazing food!!
One of my favorite Lebanese restaurant in Washington DC. Great service and awesome food. Large portion size to be shared! Making a reservation is recommended as this is one Michelin-star restaurant!
Maydan has now moved to a group prix fixe menu (the Tawle
Maydan has now moved to a group prix fixe menu (the Tawle menu) and it was honestly mindblowingly amazing. Everything about it was so, so good, and their wine selection is unique, delicious, and well priced. They bring you the meal in three waves and the portions depend on the number of people in your group. First were the spreads, the. halloumi, this crudite platter of pickled veggies, herbs, and dates, and four condiments. They tell you to mix and match everything with the bread (which they refresh as soon as it looks somewhat empty). Oh my goodness, that halloumi was so good, as was the walnut spread. Next come the roasted vegetables (carrots for us), which were roasted to perfection the tabbouleh, and the two kebabs (beef and chicken). I personally preferred the beef but both were so flavorful and so insanely juicy, and went so well with the condiments. Last was the ribeye (you can also choose the branzino, cauliflower or lamb shoulder), which was tender and charred and we couldn't stop eating it. AND you get dessert even if you're stuffed to the brim. It was my birthday so they did the candle, which was a nice touch. We were worried that with two people, the portions would be a lot smaller than the photos you see on Yelp but we were absolutely stuffed and took home leftovers (which they packed up super well). For $69, given the amount and quality of the food and the excellent service and ambiance, it was honestly a steal. We would have definitely done the wine pairings but given the portions of the food, we probably would've had to be carried home, so it's a good thing we didn't!You need reservations though--about exactly a month in advance because this place fills up (and I can see why)!

* At this stage, the reservation does not exist yet.
2.) A Community User Picks Up the Bid
