Restaurant week lunch
The parsnip soup was good the panna cotta was good. The dry aged hamburger was overdone and dry. The service was wretched. 90 minutes for three little lunch courses

The most memorable experiences on trips for me have always been the unplanned delights. Marisol certainly fits that category. One look at the menu had us anticipating the restaurant's dinner hours while we lingered in the coffee shop section in the front, which serves very high quality tea and delicately sweetened scones (be sure to brew the Silver Needle White Tea for 4 minutes the first time and 5.5 minutes the second time). I asked for 2 cups so I can pour all of the tea at once and not let it oversteep.
For dinner, we shared the Marisol Salad. It was served like a tower of leaves, with each butter leaf of lettuce perfectly fresh. The thinly sliced green apple added crunch and a splash of freshness, but the extra touch here was the dressing which was applied to every layer so that you never found yourself biting into a dry leaf.
For main courses, we ordered Fried Quail and Tri-Tip. If the concept of fried brings up an image of fried chicken, don't let it. The fried sections of quail were more like sunkissed bits of crunch on a juicy bird. Not only was the meat moist but the sauce made it lovely for savoring. If you're not used to eating quail, expect small pieces of bone-in bird, but the portion size was perfect for my sense of satiety.
As someone who avoids desserts, I could not pass up the chance here because I expected it would be worth every gram of sugar. I ordered the buckwheat cake. I'm so glad I did. My husband, who doesn't eat sugar, ordered roasted carrot salad for dessert and found it a perfect alternative.
Marisol was a discovery we won't soon forget and will add to our list of destination restaurants when we're in downtown Chicago.
An excellent museum restaurant
In my experience, one goes to a museum for its exhibits, not its cafes or restaurants. But the Marisol was recommended as a destination restaurant and it truly met expectations. The service was good, the atmosphere was pleasant, and the food was delicious - heavy on vegetables and salads. The bonus of course is the MCA.

There is the dining experience that was full with a wait for a table. Then there is the cafe bar section in the corridor. A large, spacious, empty corridor with some tables and chairs and plenty of space. Good coffee and a simple selection of cakes, bakes and light snacks. Just right for a refresh and to mull over the experience of the gallery.

Great food. Our waiter was excellent, professional and great sense of humor. Great suggestions on wine pairings.

Atmosphere is very fun; art-based but not pretentious or over decorated. Service was top notch, and the food was basically wonderful. We shared an heirloom salad with roe, which they offered on the side (suited our party); a butter lettuce salad. The garganelli pasta with lobster mushrooms was a revelation - unusual and delicious. I shared a roast chicken dish with my mother and it was quite possibly the best roast chicken I've had at a restaurant. Perfectly crisp skin, flavorful and moist meat, even the white. The wines were tasty and reasonably priced. Oh, and the other patrons were enjoyably stylish to people-watch.

Friends of ours insisted on meeting us here, as after looking at the menu I wouldn't have considered it. The reason: the relatively short menu consists of an hodgepodge of cuisines, with some "fusion" elements thrown in. And indeed, my low expectations were fulfilled.
And the place is not particularly cheap, either.
Lovely addition to the neighborhood.
Good lunch with a varied menu. We shared two interesting salads. One with an addition of salmon. Room is very open and well designed. Service was a bit uneven but we were not in a hurry.

We wandered in on a Friday night after reading some good reviews. What a find! Pork collar with fava bean slaw and dill obliterated a decades old dislike of dill. We shared a matafalde (long, wriggly pasta) with duck, chiles and garlic chips and a gorgeous halibut, both paired beautifully with a Spanish carrignan/garnacha red wine blend (from a fascinating and quirky wine list full of great values) and agreed we had just found our new favorite neighborhood place. The ginger/yogurt mousse tart for dessert was a perfect finale. This lovely, lively little spot will transport you to a European locale in an instant. Worth so much more than only 5 stars.

You don't have to go into the MCA (although it's great place to visit) in order to get to Marisol. Excellent menu, good service, not too too expensive. Great meal.
