We arrived at the restaurant with kids and a reservation . They made us wait for 35 min The service was terrible and the food was served cold after 40 minutes of waiting for the food to come .

The food was excellent. Our server helped us do a little bit of everything and he did not disappoint. We told him we had only a hour to eat and he got everything out in time and we never felt rushed. Wonderful experience
Be the first to ReplyBurnt tongue, no apology.
Enjoyed our dinner but we ordered dessert and there was no indication at all that this was a hot dessert. I took one bite and burnt the #%t out of my tongue. It did not cool quickly at all. Told the waiter and he said "I hope you're alright' and walked away. I said because there is absolutely no indication that this dessert is hot, they should warn people.

Weโve never been here before and have always heard great things so we decided to give it a try while visiting Miami Beach. What an adorable place, love the decor and the service was excellent. We sat outside on the patio which was nice and very cool even in the middle of July. Everything we had was very good and the grilled avocado was amazing and a must. Really enjoyed our experience

Family loved selections and our server Elizabeth was knowledgeable on pairings. Beautiful restaurant and views.

Makoto in Bal Harbour is a top-notch Japanese restaurant in Miami. Every dish was presented beautifully and tastes even better than it looks. We're a frequent diner and we're still not over their food!
Be the first to ReplyThe worst possible food ever
So we finally made reservations to this place! I donโt get it why itโs so difficult to even make the reservations to this place??? We came in at 6pm the place was 1/2 empty! The service was fine, canโt complain. However, the foodโฆ itโs CRAP! Omg! Itโs not even mediocre. Itโs just simply boring and NOT GOOD AT ALL! How are they still open? We were so disappointed! Expensive-yes, but for what? They need to fire their chefs, lol Iโm from NY, I travel a lot. Am I spoiled, maybe . But Iโd take any little tiny restaurant in Peru at the gas station over this expensive unworthy overrated joint.

Sushi is quite good. I understand that they fly fish from Tokyo 3 times a week. Nice cool ambiance. Particular server in charge of our table was not good. Impersonal service, not prompt. This needs to be addressed as service is part of the overall experience.
Be the first to ReplyExtremely salty food
Disappointed. The Frosty Wagyu Fried Rice , edamame, Braised Beef Yaki Noodle were extremely salty, almost inedible. Service great, food average.
Be the first to ReplyBest sushi of my life
The most amazing sushi and food - top 10 restaurants I have ever eaten at for sure! Our waitress was a little rude at first, but suddenly became nice when we told her it was our first time there. Very fun ambiance. There were only two of us without a reservation. We put our name in and were told it would be an hour and a half wait. Turns out they called us 25 minutes later and a table at the sushi bar was ready.
Be the first to ReplyStick to Carpaccioโฆ this place is not worth the hype anymore!
Donโt waste your time. Restaurant was half empty and were made to sit at counter. Food was EXTREMELY SLOW, waited over 45 minutes for 2 bento boxes. When it arrived it was tasteless and seemed very poor quality. When it was on ground level it used to be one of my favourites. Will not be returning as food was inedible and totally disgusting! The last photo shows how much I ate and what I left. I was super hungry and it still was not worth it!

4.5 stars, I had the Tuna Crispy Rice, Waygu Short Ribs, and house salad. While the food was extremly tasty, I ended up needing to eat again later that evening. This reminded me more of tapas than actual dinner but I would definitely visit again.
Be the first to ReplyWow! Super classy, must make reservations ahead
This place is busy, so needs reservations (5 days or so during December). Very good food ambience and service. Perfect for any occasion really. friends, business, familly.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding food at a price(!)
Four of us had dinner here midweek. It was particularly busy but as walk-ins we were able to get a table outside. We ordered a mix of appetizers and sushi dishes with the tuna/crispy rice and the brussels sprouts particulalry good. With a drink each it still worked out at over $100 per head excluding service. Still well worth it but not somewhere you'd necessarily eat at every week, unless you can afford to!

On a weeknight the place was packed at 10:00 the only time we could get a reservation. Huge restaurant and very loud between the crowd and the music. Like a Miami Vice scene; you might think as we did this is NOT the place for a great Japanese meal, but would be wrong.
We had the rock shrimp tempura, served with a spicy sweet chili sauce on top rather than the traditional dipping sauce, but was good. Better was the wagyu you cook at table over a hot rock. Then the sushi; we sprang for the deluxe assortment, and it was amazing. Each piece was prepared according to the chef's view of best treatment, rather than a series of raw pieces, and each was memorable.
Popular for a reason and overall worth the high prices.
BEST GRILLED AVOCADO
My main reason for dining here was for my stay at the St. Regis which was an awful experience but that's another review I'll leave. Makoto staff were great and the food was fresh and inventive. The winner was the grilled avocado which has forever changed the way I think about avocado. I won't be back to the St. Regis ever again but I will be glad to dine at Makoto!!! It was amazing.
Be the first to ReplyBENTO BOX
I was here for lunch. I got a Bento Box, the one with sushi. Good choice. Pleasant atmosphere. Efficient service.
Be the first to ReplyWorst Communication and Service Ever Experienced
Worst customer service Iโve experienced at any restaurant in my life which includes dining around the world.
The food was also terribly marginal.
Terrific meal
What a great restaurant! Great sushi along with the other menu offerings. We had several appetizers and it was quite filling. The spicy tuna crispy rice was delicious, although we did not think it was spicy as noted on the menu along with the white fish crispy rice. The chicken wings were outstanding and the meat fell off the bones. The crispy brussels sprouts were plentiful and delicious. The two sushi rolls were also very good. The waitress provided wonderful input to help us put our meal together. Highly recommend!!

Super Asian fusion. Delicious rock shrimp, Spicey tuna on crispy rice and shishito peppers. Mains were wonderful too with lamb chops and sushi. Loved everything. Outdoor dining was a great.
Be the first to ReplyBest meal we had in Miami
The grilled shrimp and eggplant dishes were absolutely incredible. My son had the hot plate wagyu beef and loved it. The lychee martini was great also.
Be the first to ReplyHIGHLY RECOMMENDโฆ You DONโT GO TO THEIR BATHROOM
Always wanted to try Makoto but it just never worked out. Finally got the chance to lunch there to close out my birthday celebration as we were nearby. Their online reservation system said no tables available for the next two hours, so we decided to show up in person with hopes of eating at the bar, and there were plenty of tables available. Donโt know why it said no tables available online. We got seated outside in a somewhat distanced terrace. Our waiter was extremely knowledgable and had answers to all our questions however he was way too casual in his professionalism and etiquette. Everyone is out to have a good time and this is not white glove tuxedo service ,but still, there has to be a certain amount of professionalism kept between a patron and a waiter. The food was good, we enjoyed it, I ordered a couple rolls and the person I was with ordered chicken satay. It was good. But what turned me off completely was the state of the bathrooms. I usually roll my eyes when I see people giving a restaurant a bad review because of the state of the bathroom, but this was a whole other level. First of all I was in the menโs room and a woman cleaning lady came in behind me, not excusing herself, not asking if she could come in, just did her thing. There was water leaking on the floor from everywhere possible, urinals, toilet bowl the sink. The areas around the sink in the corners were full of dirt and mold. I can almost definitely say that this was the worst the bathroom at a high end restaurant Iโve ever been to, hands-down. I am shocked that a Stephen Starr property would allow any part of the restaurants to degrade to such low levels. I most definitely will not be using their bathrooms if ever I do return to the restaurant.

Makoto was a booster to my love for Japanese cuisine. Dining there is an absolute pleasure.
Maguro, Tako, and Kani starters were all mouthwatering. Yet, they were nothing compared to the a5 Wagyu strip. Imported from Japan, this was, no other way to describe it, outright sublime. Not to add the fact that it was accompanied by the real wasabi seeds, which is impressive, to say the least. Iโve only had real wasabi in one other restaurant in Miami, which tremendously enhances the dining experience; being miles away from the horseradishy paste served in lesser Japanese restaurants.
Service was what is expected for such a restaurant. Although the waiters were good, the servers, visibly Japanese, were outstanding. They were more than eager to explain and expand our knowledge on the dishes that they were serving.
However, expect to pay for it, of course. Meals will easily climb over $200-250/person, but it is more than worth it from my point of view.
In all, I found Makoto to be a superb restaurant, on-par with Michelin-Star counterparts in NY and London, and unless you find it too over the top budget-wise, I would strongly recommend visiting.

Great dinner
A local recommended we try this place out and they were spot on. Had the most amazing steak here and the vegetable fried rice is excellent!
