Californian Italian cuisine in Manhattan Beach
Californian-Italian restaurant with fresh ingredients and shareable plates. Came here for a private party in their back room (holds up to 20 people) and it was a very pleasant meal. We had the arugula salad as well as the fennel salad to start in addition to charcuterie boards. The arugula salad was a bit bitter but the fennel was surprisingly tasty. The candied walnuts were my favorite on the charcuterie board. We got the delicata squash as well as margherita pizzas - the crust was Neapolitan style and I especially enjoyed the delicata (which you can get without pork). For the pastas, we had the cacio e pepe and another cheese bow tie one - the texture of the pasta was on point and the sauces were creamy. The mains were the beef as well the brick chicken - the brick chicken comes with a jus that soaks a slice of thick cut bread underneath, and it was a crowd favorite. The beef was tender and came with polenta - a hearty option. For dessert, we ended with a trio of tiramisu, lemon merengue, and a cake. The tiramisu was one of the best Iโve had in LA. Our waitress was so attentive and nice. They do have mocktails and vegetarian options. There was a private restroom available outside of the room. Overall, a lovely meal with cozy vibes.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent service, Food too salty.
Love & Salt is located at the old Cafe Pierre location. We were seated at a nice table for two. The chair was uncomfortable for my wifeโs bad back, and the GM Rod immediately sprang into action, and switched chairs. He was very kind. Liz was our very nice Server, and the service was very attentive. The noise level was high, but everyone was having a nice time. The cocktails were very good ~ Crime of Passion with mezcal and passion fruit, and the Manhattan Sour. We were honestly underwhelmed with the food. The fennel salad was pure shaved fennel, but it was bland and did not have the strong flavor of licorice we were expecting. The Parmesan cheese did its best to bring out the flavor but it fell short. The Ricotta Gnocchi had a generous portion of pork ragu, but it was extremely salty although the gnocchi had a nice texture. The Emigh Farms Lamb Shank was tender, but also was salty. The glasses of wine we ordered were a highlight. The Barbera DโAsti Piemonte was superb, and the Bordeaux Blend also very good. For dessert we had their Summer Crostata with wild blueberries which was tasty, but would have been better if it were warmed. We have heard many good things about Love & Salt, and will return to work our way through the menu. The service was excellent, and I look forward to reviewing after we try some other creative sounding dishes.
Be the first to ReplyYou have to like the noise!!
Things were off to a bad start when the 20 something hostess chastised us for being a few minutes late and there were several tables empty. The noise was so loud it was difficult to hear all of what she said which was a blessing. The food was good but everyone was served at different times based on their style but 10 minutes between plates seemed odd particularly when three were pasta. Overpriced wine list. Got a kick out of 2 over $1000. They actually have one bottle of each. Finally having to retain cutlery between courses in a high priced spot does not sit well with me. But the bar and room were packed, so what do I know. Just this there are better spot with in a blocks walk.
Be the first to ReplyGluten Free
Gluten free is advertised but only when asked if I had any allergy's they stated that the gluten free pasta is cooked in the same pan. I don't think people realise how difficult it is to order and search in a restaurant. Walking around and not being able to find suitable meals is so dam hard. It makes the experience unpleasant and adding we have to pay more if we ever do. Please look into Celiac Disease it is not a choice is is an illness. I mean how hard is it to use a different pan? Inclusion would be great.

Beautiful restaurant in downtown Manhattan Beach. Service was very slow and food quality was nothing exceptional. Staff were very nice, however the kitchen was too small to accommodate the volume. We ordered four different dishes and non of them were anything out of ordinary. The meatball was too salty, margarita pizza hardly had any cheese on it and cold, the lemon sauce with the mushroom gnocchi was so overpowering that you couldnโt taste the mushrooms nor the gnocchi. We spend $360 for 4 people. It was very overpriced. Two appetizers, and 4 entrees with a bottle of wine. Wine was $60, so the $300 was food. Very disappointing.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible food, service and cocktails!
Expected so much more for a birthday dinner, the most horrible service including cold food., the waiter, Steve abandoned us in the middle of the meal because the food was cold, he couldnโt bring our cocktails out , even the cosmopolitans were syrupy and not cold. It was a birthday celebration I was opening gifts and looking forward to a yummy dessert. No desert menu was given to us. The manager asked us if she could give us her card, we declined as we donโt plan eating there again. I was opening presents for my birthday and they didnโt even offer us a dessert menu! Steve our waiter disappeared in the middle of the meal after being pushy and hovering over us while we wanted to enjoy our cocktails while Ii was opening gifts . We never saw him again someone else served the meals. Not our waiter.
Before leaving I asked for the manager, Jennifer and she apologized but She knew there was a problem and never checked in with us. Plus she said Steve was a veteran waiter, and I tipped him 20% after I found out he was a professional and not learning I regret tipping him 20%. All around , it was a bad experience!!
Great restaurant

It is not a cheap place for sure, but great atmosphere.

Have walked by many times and always seemed packed with with a positive energy. Despite the mixed reviews my husband decided to try it one evening for a date night. For a $25 corking fee we brought our own wine. Since we had reservations we were set right away. Restaurant was packed and tables/chairs placed maybe 8-10 inches apart from the next . We had to hold our bottle of wine and glasses each time someone walked past. The music was way too loud and the acoustics were awful we couldnโt event talk across the table. The food flavor was only so so and both pasta entrees were brought out cold. The only redeeming quality is that the service was great! We were in and out in under an hour. Wont be back.

My family booked here for dinner to celebrate my birthday. Lovely place and Great vibes here. Love their pizza and pasta. The ITALIAN dessert is one of the best, especially their Zeppole. Parking here is bit of a challenge but there are plenty of parkings in the shopping center next door.

We walked in here 5 or so years ago; they were packed, but they made room for our little family of three and we had a great meal. Flash forward 5 years; because of our great experience, we reserved a table for a birthday dinner for this trip to LA. The great service we received 5 years ago was no fluke - we were greeted and seated promptly and our server took our order quickly and efficiently, she was very attentive. To start, we ordered the broccoli - it was smoky with a crisp texture, so good! The delicata squash and burrata was a treat as it was served with toasted pepitas and fried sage. For our main, the Krikorian pizza (Calabrian sausage, fior di latte, fontina, taleggio and fried sage) was devoured as was the Creste di Gallo Midollo pasta with breadcrumbs, roasted garlic, pepper and bone marrow. So rich was the food that dessert was out of the question for us. Next time we are back in Manhattan Beach, we will return.

We finally got to Love & Salt, and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had Margarita pizza and the half chicken. Fantastic!!
Be the first to ReplyLooking for a good meal reasonably close to the airport---this is it.
Wanted a good meal before we got on a long flight out of LAX and Love & Salt did not disappoint. The food is good (and interesting), our server could not have been nicer and the restaurant has a pleasant, upbeat buzz to it. My wife and I shared the Castelfranco Radicchio Salad and the Hen of the Woods Mushroom Pizza as appetizers. We may have gotten a little ahead of ourselves, as both were extremely ample servings---I should note we enjoyed both. The Whole Roasted Branzino was again a large portion---but very good. The Creste di Gallo Midollo which is pasta with roasted garlic, bone marrow, parsley, parmesan & cracked pepper was very tasty---it was fun watching our server scrape the bone marrow from the bone into the pasta dish--those little presentations always add to the experience. Next time up that way, we will be back.

We had a 7 hour layover in LA on our way from Boston to Sydney so that we could get out and stretch our legs and let our 2 year old move around before our 15 hour flight. We decided to head to Manhattan Beach. We walked into Love & Salt around 6pm without a reservation on a Sunday night and they were able to fit us in. After another 15 minutes the place was completely full. The menu had many options. We had the Wood Oven Roasted Cauliflower as a starter. I love cauliflower, but this was just okay. We then had the Margherita pizza which was fantastic. Our two year old finally learned to love pizza here. The surrounding guests were also very friendly and chatted with us a bit. I was very anxious about getting on the flight to Sydney, and it was great to have a nice dinner and experience before setting off.

Wow. Its a must try. Every dish is out of this world with flavor. My book club met here and we had a wonderful time. Not the healthiest food. but it certainly was tasty. Try the biscuits and bacon.
