When in Vegas, almost like being in NYC, you can pretty much find any cuisine you're looking for. Lotus of Siam came very high recommended and my buddy and I decided to give it a try.
Given the Covid restrictions in Nevada, you need to have a reservation, so I made one on Resy the day before.
This location is in a huge strip mall just east of the strip, past the Westgate. Easy enough to get here via Uber.
Upon entering, you are greeting and asked for reservation information. The place is cavernous and they do a good job of spacing out the tables to be safe. We were seating in room back behind the bar that had about 4 or 5 tables completely spaced out. I liked that very much.
The one thing I didn't realize, is that this place is known for NORTHERN Thai cuisine. I didn't know there was such a distinction, so I was eager to learn and try some things outside the norm of what I usually order when having the urge for Thai. There's a whole section on the menu with items that cover this area.
I would have given this place FIVE STARS. There was just a couple of nit picky things that knocked it down one.
When I asked about some of the regional differences of the food, there didn't seem to be too much interest in educating me. It was kind of like "pick something." One of the main appetizers I always like to get is the traditional Thom Kah Kai soup, with the coconut milk & chicken. I saw there was "Northern" version, and I wondered what the difference was. My server said that it was more like a meal and would come in a huge bowl. When I asked if I could get it as an app, it wasn't possible. Seems odd that here I am willing to be adventurous to taste something, and it would have been easy for them to oblige, but they chose not to. As a result, I just ordered the standard Thom Kah Kai soup, and it was awesome, but it would have been cool to taste the Northern version. Ball dropped here.
I also did go ahead and order the Khao Soi which is a Northern style dish. I got it with beef and I will say it was very, very good. Lots of good spice.
We also washed down all our food with Thai beer.
The only other thing that I noticed, and I sort of get it, due to limited capacity and the popularity of this place, is there seemed to be a sense of trying to move us in and out of the establishment with a bit quicker pace then normal.
I did manage to order the banana dessert and it was a nice way to cut through a bit of the spiciness of the evening.
All in all, the food that I did have was very good, and even with the minor hiccups I experienced, I would highly recommend this place if you have a hankering for Thai food while rollin' the dice in Vegas!
