Been living in Monterey area for ten months now and we just haven't been able to fined a really good mexican restaurant. We have tried many (El Torito, Jose, El Cantaro, Mission 19 Taqueria and more) restaurants in the surrounding area and experienced cold, bland, dirty glasses and greasy floors or nasty bathrooms. Not today, we found this little hidden mexican restaurant tucked back in a small shopping center (Los Amigos). As we walked in we were greeted with a hello welcome and a smile. We ordered a house margarita that was great & a very cold pacifico. My husband had the combo (enchilada & chili relleno with beans & rice) meal for only $12.95. It was great. He said it was the best he had ever had before. I had the fajita chicken taco salad. Very good & flavorful. The best part of our dining experience was our server Nuriam, she was friendly, fast & knowledgeable of entire menu. We definitely will be back!

I visited this restaurant with my family and was not satisfied with the food. Positives: the staff was very friendly, even though they seemed overwhelmed on a Sunday evening. Quality opportunities: (1)it appeared on a Sunday evening this restaurant only had two employees working the bar, hosting, and waiting duties. This lead to extended wait periods for takeout and dining in. (2) the kitchen staff left sour cream on all ordered dishes, even though I was requested sans sour cream on my entire order.

We ordered from the menu online and picked it up in a timely manner. The nachos were soggy, the tacos were soggy. The meat was super dry. The rice tasted like it was a few days old and everything kind of tasted the same. To top it all off the final tally was more than we expected because they changed their menu prices in house but not online. We mentioned it to them and they just said it was a problem they knew about. I think the DoorDash prices are even cheaper than what it cost to pick up in store. We are hoping it was just an off night after a busy week with the golf crowd here. But I don't know. If they get that menu updated so that it reflects the price we will actually be paying that would be helpful. Will give it a try again and want to continue to support local businesses. Everyone behind the counter was super nice even if they couldn't really explain why we were overcharged.

Watch your wallet at this restaurant especially if your ordering online or even on door dash. Both their online menu is way off and even their door dash pricing is less than what I paid when I picked up my dinner. I discussed the pricing with them and they said they wrote to door dash to change but the pricing hasn't changed yet and their online menu is from years ago but they don't know how to/ or can't change it. I feel like we were deceived and ripped off. As for the quality of the food, it's ok. Nothing to write home about but tasted mostly fresh. We aren't going to get sick but I feel I was robbed and cannot recommend this place to others until they are honest in their pricing and learn how to make the changes they need to communicate without deceiving. We are locals here and will not be back as the quality to price is not equivalent. Again, if your loaded and want some ok Mexican food, this is the place (or Peppers or El Torrito or even the vegan El Cantera. Many places where the price is not so high and they actually have it correct.

Friendly service. Had the shrimp tacos. They were filling and very fresh

This place is located in the very back of a cul-de-sac that houses a lot of other restaurant options. Inside is small but comfortable and the staff are really friendly. We were told to seat ourselves and there were three other groups in the restaurant during our visit. Everyone is really short staffed right now so service takes a bit of time to get to you. After ordering, there is also a bit of a wait for food to come out. Luckily, they offer complementary chips and salsa so you have some snacks to munch on while you wait for your entrées and your appetizer. The flautas were really fresh and made for a fantastic appetizer. 10/10 would recommend. When our burritos were delivered, they were delivered to the incorrect person which caused a bit of confusion between my buddy and I, as we took some large bites out of the ends of our burritos, and then realized that we were eating each other's food. Haha, whoops! Having been able to try the chipotle burrito as well as a Carne Asada burrito, I can say that I recommend both but the chipotle burrito is definitely better because if the added salsas/chipotle sauce. Their menus on their website are outdated so make sure you check here on yelp for updated offerings. Tip; their burritos are stuffed with wet ingredients and have a tendency to fall apart, so be prepared to turn this into a fork and knife burrito rather than a fully handheld one.

We really want to make this our go to local restaurant as it has really good food and very friendly staff, but, the inconsistency with their margaritas makes us go elsewhere. Please develop a recipe that is top notch, then repeat, repeat, repeat! It is not difficult but somehow this is very difficult for this restaurant. 5-stars for food and service, 1-star for margaritas.

ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS! Our group ordered many entrees, and all were FANTASTIC! Their nachos were particularly impressive - the toppings covered ALL of the chips! So rare these days!El Jefe burrito - huge and delicious! Cheese enchiladas - amazing! Steak Ranchero - delectable! We HIGHLY recommend this restaurant! Yummmmm!!!!
Be the first to Reply3 stars even though we won't be back.
The burritos were just ok. We got the al pastor and the carne asada, and although both were flavorful we didn't LOVE the flavor.

I drove to PG on a Friday a few weeks ago, and after traffic delays and a few stops my check-in was late to my hotel. Although it was after 8:30pm, the small family who runs (owns?) this place greeted me like I was their best customer and quickly offered me a table. I opted take out and it was delicious! I had the chicken enchilada and the pork tamale. The beans and rice were generous portions along with the main items and also came with a small bag of chips with salsa. I would have given it five stars but the salsa was ultra mild, and although I look Caucasian I actually prefer hot peppers and salsa to the mild tomato paste a lot of my look-alikes eat. If I was given both mild and hot salsa I would give 5 stars. Also, the family was talking in English when I stood outside the open door looking at the menu and when I went in they switched to speaking Spanish, which I totally understand and know. The conversation wasn't anything derogatory, but definitely an assumption that I wouldn't understand the language. Please don't judge a person by their skin and eye color. I didn't have time to go back and tell them how grateful I was for their delicious last-minute dinner but I hope they read reviews. I do hope to return to try their hot salsa.

No wonder this place has been in business for more than 20 years! The wonderful flavors are balanced and complex. Lots of choices for veggie options and calorie counters. They have old favorites and new twists.

Delicious food and amazing service! I ordered the chicken chimichunga... Devine. Truly authentic Mexican food. Salsa is just the right mix of flavor and heat. Burrito is huge and tacos are good too. Highly recommend

I've been multiple times and so far everything I've tried has been amazing! And it's always been takeout too. They do a great job! The complimentary chips and salsa are some of the best I've tasted and the rice and beans are the best I've had.
Be the first to ReplyIf I could give zero here, I would.
I went to pick up an order. I was charged. $60 bucks for a bean and cheese burrito and a sandwich. Then told me my sons ordered other items. I paid and what was supposed to be ready and wasn't even close. Then called my son to find out why they ordered so much food. They didn't!! She was billing me for more food than they ordered. When I went in to ask her why she charged me so much, she then told me we never ordered. Is she's charging me for food that was never ordered???? What in the world is going on here. Check your bill here or we will do, never ever come back. Charge more, raise prices, whatever you need to but don't lie and rip people off. Very rude and treated us as if they were doing us a favor my serving us. Went to Micheals and we're just treated so kindly. We are forever Michaels customers now.
Be the first to ReplyLos Amigos is a great family-friendly, local, American
Los Amigos is a great family-friendly, local, American style Mexican restaurant. There's several two person tables out front, as well as plenty of seating for larger groups inside. The atmosphere is casual with Mexican decorations adorning the walls. We brought our two year old to dinner and the staff was super accommodating. Clearly, several of the servers were mothers as well, because they seemed to read our minds throughout the meal - knowing when we needed to hit the gas before our kiddo lost her patience, and brining a spoon for her without our even asking for example. The food was delicious and served hot. We had cheese enchiladas with mole sauce, and Chile rellanos. It appeared they only have a beer and wine license, so there were no mixed drinks available. The margarita was a wine marg and tasted fine, but lacked the bite of a tequila marg. Overall, it's a great neighborhood Mexican restaurant for a casual meal with friends or family.

Ok. Like I said I really like soups. You have to check them out. OMG I THINK I have been back several more times. And a different soup every time. I keep waiting for a same soup to be served because I know how good it is. But then I'm glad I get to enjoy another recipe of theirs. Last night I also had their special Chicken dish. Fantastic. Who are their chefs. They are Great. I always get their specials. GREAT
Be the first to ReplyThis is a wonderful local family owned Mexican restaurant
This is a wonderful local family owned Mexican restaurant with fair prices, great atmosphere and authentic dishes. Best Mexican in Pacific Grove, and I've tried the others. Their veggie fajitas can be a nice vegetarian/vegan option too, and includes lots of veggies such as cauliflower and zucchini. Don't listen to the people complaining about unfriendly service or less than perfect English! Excellent service and friendly staff here.
Be the first to ReplyThe very best enchiladas on the Monterey Peninsula.
We used to drive out of town for a great enchilada, but now just have to go a few blocks. The cheese , the chicken (packed with tender roasted chicken) and the sauce is to die for. Very nice atmosphere, and great service as well. Even have outdoor dining now.
Be the first to ReplyExcellent dinner experience! Tacos were crispy and delicate.
Enchilada was delightful. Black beans and rice were hearty. The only reason I cannot give a 5 star is that Grubhub took a few minutes longer to deliver based on pickup time and actual tie delivered. Luis and his staff know what they're doing and you won't be disappointed!!!
Be the first to ReplyDecided to check this place out upon arriving into Monterey
Decided to check this place out upon arriving into Monterey for the weekend. The place was cozy and dive bar like but similar to small Mexican restaurants. I ordered the chipotle burrito with carne asada for my choice of meat. It was ok just lots of mixings but that's what you get for ordering a huge burrito. Our waitress was nice and friendly just didn't check on us enough.
Be the first to ReplyIt's a shame I was looking forward to this taqueria.
I do doordash and got two or three customers from there so I was anxious to try it. After I got off shift I swung by and got a carnitas burrito and chicken nachos. The nachos were nothing fantastic and they tacked on an extra $5 charge which wasn't a big deal but I couldn't see any meat and as my girlfriend dug into it there was hardly any. Wasn't too excited about the burrito neither it lact taste but had a good presentation. The girl at the front counter could barely speak English or at least had a hard time finding understanding me... I asked for a rice roncata and she threw in a bottle of coke I didn't ask for which was $5. The rancata tasted like it was rushed. Overall I spent about $38 and I was unimpressed.
