Very windy
We were looking for a beach where we could snorkel from the shore. You can do this but on the day we went it was very windy so it was very rough. There is easy access from Chamicos restaurant but it may pay to check the tide as when we were there it was very low. If it had been less windy it would have been good as there were fish though not much coral. The restaurant serves fantastic cerviche so well worth eating. The beach belongs to the restaurant so Itโs free access provided you order something.
Be the first to ReplySoliman Bay is an amazing, well kept secret!
We were looking for a beach off the beaten track and we found it in Soliman Bay. Just north of Tulum, the beach is a thin strip of sand that surrounds a beautiful bay. Below I detail all the things I wish I knew in detail before. To get there: GPS will take you correctly to the destination. Another way is to drive north from Tulum and when you see a sign for Hotel Jashita turn right down that road. To get inside: It is a gated community so you either need to be a resident or be visiting the restaurant (at Hotel Jashita or Chamicos). When you get to the gate, say you are visiting Chamicos and they will let you in and ask your name. To get onto a beach: One way is simply to drive to the south end and pay a small fee to enter through Chamicos. Then you are free to walk along their stretch of beach or move towards the villas and find your own strip of land to set up in. We did something a bit more "trespass"-y. We saw a path in between some of the villas and we parked the car and quietly walked through. Once on the beach you can set up towels wherever you like as it is just a beach and no one owns it! It is worth being aware that the beach is more narrow than classic Tulum beaches and the villas all have their own "backyards" with chairs set up on the beach, so it does feel much more private. Therefore, you can find a space between two properties to just set up towels and no one will give you a problem if you respect the space and peaceful environment. We found a house that was pretty abandoned and used a small piece of their backyard beach-land so we didn't have to sit so close to the water. If we hadn't found that, we probably would have gone through Chamicos with no problem!
Be the first to ReplyQuiet Beach with the best Snorkeling!
This is a hidden gem! Awesome Beach that was quiet. Best kept secret! No hustle from the venders you will practically have it to yourself. Snorkeling was amazing. There is a security gate at the entrance of a dirt road and you just tell them youโre visiting the restaurant and Iโll let you pass. In between the houses thereโs passage ways to get you on the beach. Since the beach and the water is not private you can walk up and down and find a quiet place for you to rest and relax for the day.
Be the first to ReplyA beach of contrasts
The sea off this beach was wonderful for swimming: shallow enough to get nicely warm, with clean clear water. Lots of kayakers launch from here. The beach in front of each private home was very clean, with all seaweed removed. However, in front of a home under construction there were several piles of dog poo, right there with tracks left by turtles. Later in the day we met the dogs themselves, obviously owned, and quite friendly once you showed no fear at their barking, but tearing around loose and leaving their presents where they pleased. I already love dogs, but if you're on the fence about them, a visit to this beach isn't the best introduction to these wonderful animals. On a happier note, we saw a very healthy small crocodile in the mangroves on the way to the beach (we walked on foot from the highway).
