Wonderful Evening
Fabulous gourmet experience…quite aside from the exquisitely presented courses, gorgeous and occasionally surprising drink pairings , the care , knowledge and attention from Chef Christopher’s team was really top notch. This 12 course tasting menu is pricy but definitely a delight even if one or two of the fish courses were not quite to our taste. 5 stars for the Moroccan Braised Ham , Thai Beef Carpaccio, Duck a L’Orange and Carrot Cake. Fav drinks: “Gathering around the Campfire” and the deliciously named “The Annihilator” One small quibble- we arrived 15 minutes early to be told to walk around “or something” before the 5pm start…..knowing that we were dropping $1,000 for two on the evening I have to say that was a bit of a downer start to the experience- surely an out of the way seat inside could have been found. Anyway that aside - a wonderful evening !

We came here on a saturday night and found the ambience to be lively and comfortable. The "bar" area is facing the kitchen with lots of entertained patrons who were clearly having fun. We sat at a table in the back, which was more romantic. The decor was really pretty. Even though Localis has a Michelin star, it has a welcoming atmosphere that isn't pretentious or snobby. I wore a sweater dress and heels and my husband wore chinos and a button up shirt and sweater and we fit in perfectly fine. No suits needed here. There is no outdoor seating, so no dogs. Parking is street parking. We did the alcohol pairing so we took Uber. The chef delivered many of the courses himself and was very down to earth and humorous. I like that he didn't take himself or that Michelin star too seriously, except when it came to the food. The food was spectacular. The presentations were artfully beautiful! The blend of often surprising ingredients were complementary and each bite brought something new to taste. This restaurant didn't simply offer a meal, it offered an experience. We also enjoyed the full alcohol pairing that came with our 12 course meal, which was also filled with little surprises. They also offer a non-alcohol pairing!! So thoughtful! When we thought the meal was over and dessert was done, they brought us more food! Homemade banana bread and some homemade candies. I think I would have burst if I ate anymore food, so they boxed them up for us. Overall, this was a beautiful experience and I highly recommend this restaurant.

We had a double birthday party and could not ask for a better place to have it. The food was amazing and beautifully done. My favorite dish was the Tide Pool with Stars. It was served in a glass, looked like a tide pool, and tasted amazing. The clear fish broth made the dish. No, I didn’t take pictures because I was caught up in the moment and didn’t want to share/spoil it by doing photographing it.

My husband and I went to Localis for the first time the other night and we both thought they did a wonderful job. It was so much fun to try a whole bunch of little bites of interesting things - everything was delicious and the service was very good too. The only thing I will do differently next time is skip the alcohol pairings because it was just too tempting to drink too much that way. Plus I want to check out the Chef's Counter option, where a group sits at the bar and the chef talks about the food and wine while you eat/drink.

Trued 12 course menu. Each dish was worth it. They did their best and accommodate request to turn one of the set into no meat menu, on my experience its rare for the places with fixed menu. And meat free one was tasty too. Guys are very welcoming and helpful. Cocktails are great too. Definitely one of the places to be

The food was delicious. Since I had allergies and couldn't consume what they were serving, the chef even made me a special dessert. There are several options available, as well as unlimited food. The only drawback was the extra cost of wine. It's just too costly. Tip: Bring your own wine and pay the corkage fee!
Be the first to ReplyAn absolute disappointment.
An absolute disappointment. Wild mismatch between price and actual value.
Timing of wine and food pairings was absurdly misaligned: kitchen was between 20 and 45 minutes behind wine pours at table.
Food was adequate, but overall unimpressive. Service was polite and charming, but we received no fewer than 4 major apologies for mistakes during the evening ranging from wrong courses to incorrect wine to crazy long delays between courses.
We wanted this to be a validation of Sacramento’s culinary legitimacy, but it was anything but that. Totally unimpressed and will not be back.
Delicious
This was our first time trying Localis based on reviews of this local restaurant. The food was fantastic and we liked everything we ordered. We did not go with a tasting menu and ordered a la carte. Grilled octopus was excellent as well as fish of the day and duck. The menu is relatively small. We sat at the high counter and watched the crew prepare the food which was fun to watch. The 5-star rating is based on the quality of the food. However, the service was not what we expected. We had to wait 20 minutes or so to be seated for a reserved time slot that we arrived promptly to. The service in general was slow and inattentive. We barely saw our waiter. The food was of high quality and delicious and we would definitely give this another try.

I wouldn't say it was the best restaurant we tried in Sacramento but it was good.
Highly priced and staff seemed a little stressed the night we dined. Service was a little slow for us but we enjoyed ourselves.
My favorite restaurant in Sacramento
My husband and I have shared the 7 course tasting menu on two occasions and loved it! We sat at the bar which overlooks the kitchen, so we could watch the chefs in action. This is easily my favorite food in Sacramento. The food is locally sourced, delicious, and presented artfully.

Came here for our birthday dinner while visiting some wineries around the area from Texas. Ordered the 7 course tasting menu and was not disappointed. Each dish was presented well, delicious and balanced. Chef was extremely friendly and engaging with customers. The wait staff was attentive and knowledgeable. Very impressed. All plates were returned empty. Thank you for the experience. If we are in the area again, we will be back. Excellent restaurant.

My wife booked this for Father's Day and we sat at the bar and watched the kitchen, which I always enjoy. I really liked everything we had. Execution was technically outstanding and the menu was innovative and full of interesting choices. We will definitely go back. I wanted to try the tasting menu but didn't have the time this visit.
Be the first to ReplyInteresting but somewhat overrated
I was looking forward to eating at Localis as it has been touted as a gourmet experience. The food is nicely prepared and presented but the portions are very small and the comfort level of the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. The wine menu is extensive and one can find all prices and varietals. The food on the other hand is limited and very expensive. The service is spotty and not very attentive. While trendy and currently very booked I'm not sure this formula will remain or go the way of Tuli Bistro which is what Localis replaced.
Be the first to ReplyTerrible from beginning to end
Booked a table, then they made us wait 20 minutes to be seated. When we complained to the hostess, she said it was not that long a wait.
Food took over half an hour to come, I guess because we complained about the wait. Then 4 of our 5 dishes were cold when they came out. When we asked the waiter about that, his response was just that they could take it back and bring something else.
Service was slow and rude. Again presumably because we dared to complain.
After such bad food and service, I could not bring myself to leave a tip. No surprise, as we were getting ready to leave, I saw the hostess craning to see the check and then go talk to the chef.
As we were leaving the chef confronted us, saying we were “terrible guests”. When we said that the food was cold and the service was terrible, the chefs response was “I don’t care just leave”.
That is the bottom line of this review. The chef does not care and it shows.
