Wasn't welcomed - so won't be back
I was in Herne Hill a few days ago with friend and thought I'd drop by Llewelyns to book a table for my husband's birthday. A flustered female staff member finally came over to me & looked/sounded highly put out that I was bothering them. "Haven't you looked online?" she said after I asked if I could book a nice, cosy table for our celebration. "We don't do specific tables, and I'm afraid you will find it too busy here." I was slightly mortified, but said, ok I'll go somewhere else - and I won't be back. Potential patrons weirdly not welcome here - perhaps she would prefer we ate our meal on-line too? On a positive note, thanks for saving me the best part of £200 at your establishment. And btw, I'm local, so this is my word-of-mouth review to other locals for your restaurant too.
Be the first to ReplyGreat food, solid service, just a little better than you'd expect
Visited with wine nerd friends, We took our own wine (corkage a reasonable £20). The food was excellent - definitely a cut above "neighbourhood restaurant" - bistro in style, just a little bit ambitious, the kind of food one often sees in Paris less frequently in London. The beef tartare in particular was superb. The service was super engaging and friendly - not formal but quick, efficient and helpful. The dining room itself is quite buzzy and you don't get a *ton* of space, but it's not *super* loud, and more than tolerable for my middle aged years. Will definitely be back.

It’s a casual place, unstuffy with an efficient but peremptory staff. I wasn’t impressed to have the bill plonked down on the table before we had asked for it - neither was I impressed by a surly waitress who plonked down dishes in a grim fashion. As for the food -our winter tomato starters were excellent, interesting and flavoursome. My companions’ mains of duck and spätzle were pronounced “fine”, but my pork loin was chewy, tough in places and fat had not been rendered properly, although the dish’s flavours were interesting. Desserts were unmemorable. Llewelyn’s is alright and as a neighbourhood restaurant quite reasonable, but I was underwhelmed by it.
Be the first to ReplyDisappointing menu and amateurish service
It’s not terrible. The menu and extremely amateurish service do not make for what should be a far better experience at this price point. Pity as some of the food is good.

Food, ambience and service excellent. Table for 2 a little close to other guests! First visit to the restaurant and will return. Thank you for a lovely evening…
Be the first to ReplyHomely elegance
I have been to Llewelyn’s a few times this year and each team the food, wine and service has been excellent. The menu is ever changing, in line with the seasons, and offers something a bit off the beaten track but equally that kind of ‘just what you fancy’ comfort food. It’s elegant but homely and the service is always efficient, yet relaxed. One of my favourite London restaurants.
Be the first to ReplyNo cash. No go.
Fabulous food and wine. Service great and friendly. Only downside, they do t take cash. Just want the option. Won’t return as they need to accommodate the many, not the few.
Be the first to ReplyTinned Tomatoes!
Pretentious menu and we should have left. But we stayed to eat an array of tastes that never really gelled together. The bread (old) and butter was actually the best part of it. The fish stew was cooked in a tin of tomatoes. You have to cook that down and and you have to add stock, onions etc. you da not be slapping a few bits of fish in and calling it stew. And it was expensive
Be the first to ReplyTop-notch cooking
Went to Llewelyn's on a recommendation and it was completely wonderful. The dishes that we had needed some careful cooking (fried courgette flowers, fish, île flottante etc) and they were all perfect. We also had a very good peach tea gimlet and a calvados to round off a really excellent dinner! The service was lovely too - looking forward to coming back. I've recently spent the same on some very average meals so this was a real treat.
Be the first to ReplyGreat outdoor summer lunch in Herne Hill
Really lovely food. Excellent service. Crab starter and San Marzano starters were the highlights but we also liked the Panisses a lot.
Be the first to ReplyLovely local eatery
Very much enjoyed Llewelyn's. It is a lovely restaurant where the staff really seem to care. Not the longest menu, but plenty of tasty dishes on offer so I might have to go back. Quite a long wine list with ridiculously small text for those of us with older eyes. Worth trying this place out. I don't think you will regret it.
Be the first to ReplyUndiscovered wonder
I've been past Llewelyn's a lot over the years and always thought "that looks nice". Finally went there this weekend and it was outstandingly good. Amazing food, interesting wine list (recommend the English pink fizz and the Tomato water martini) and lovely service. Strikes a great balance between relaxed a just a little bit fancy. Can't wait to go back
Be the first to ReplyAmazing high quality meal
Just had an amazing really high quality meal, with great service in great venue. Beautiful Collar of Pork, followed by Rice Pudding. Very highly recommended.
Be the first to ReplyA special local treat
The food is always good. frequently it challenges and you pushed a bit out of your comfort zone. It’s always been great food though. Service can be a bit patchy with a sometimes grumpy head waiter. Ignore that though and you will be dazzled.
Be the first to ReplyWe attended as a family and felt the food and prices not the best value.
The food was ok, some dishes tasty but small but with top end pricing. Service ok no major complaints, except some double service charging going on. This was our second visit and we will not be returning as value is better elsewhere. Even pay for veg like potatoes extra at £3.50 small dish. It all added up to a £356 plus bill for 6. A desert even included tinned peaches and shop bought choux pastry at £8.50 Nope not that impressed.

A calm and elegant dining experience with superb food and lovely service. A small and interesting menu all dishes were well balanced. The salt cod starter was superb.
Be the first to ReplyTime limit 90 minutes - I didn't book!!!
I was going to book a table my two at 6pm on a Tuesday evening, but the booking form said we had to leave after 90 minutes. While I understand the restaurant will have lost money during the pandemic, this time is too short - I don't want to be served, eat and chat in a rush. We're going elsewhere.
Be the first to ReplyReally nice food
We had a lovely time at Llewleyn's. The food was super tasty, the atmosphere was good and the service was decent too. Definitely worth checking out.
Be the first to ReplyNice food but not worth it, fastest service in the world
I think this is the fastest service we’ve ever seen in a restaurant!
The food was delicious (although pricey), and the wine and staff were lovely!
However.
It was like 3 mins between courses, we had no let up or time to digest. The starters were served when we still had nibbles & cocktails, and even though the waitress said she’d wait to give our wine until after our cocktails, that didn’t happen. We asked for an extra 5 mins to choose dessert and after we were asked for our order I put the timer on - under 2.5 mins u til it was on the table (we were joking around about it at this point). We watched and everyone got this rushed service, I don’t get why though, it made you feel like you were in a fast food place. The frozen yoghurt was also really icy and grim.
Extra fun was that the staff had the football on behind the bar loudly, and the carried the laptop around the restaurant. I get that it’s exciting but it’s not what we booked for or paid the money for.
Overall experience is that whilst the food was good I wouldn’t go back.
Good but not wow
Food is tasty but missing the wow factor. We had the burrata starter between 2 and the beef and harissa chicken. All tasty, a tad overpriced.
Be the first to ReplyMy favourite restaurant in South London
My favourite restaurant in South London. Unfussy, high quality food matched with careful, understated service from friendly staff. The restaurant also has a lovely, minimalist interior and benefits from great light in the day, so it’s always a pleasure to spend time there. Can’t wait for my next visit!

Fabulous neighbourhood restaurant. Relaxed atmosphere, with great service. The staff and food were both amazing! Perfect for a celebration. All dishes were seasonsal, light and delicious. Look forward to returning!
Be the first to ReplyCelebration weekend trip to London
My son has been raving about this restaurant for a couple of years and so our trip up to see his new house last weekend needed a celebration. The choice of food was outstanding. I like to experience something different and Llewelyn's certainly managed to serve me two wonderful experiences. A cured monkfish starter and an octopus and chickpea dish, both off which were amazing.
Be the first to ReplyDelicious Lunch with heaters !!
What a wonderful tasty lunch we had here sitting outside under the awning and with the patio heaters keeping us warm . We all ate vegetarian and the blue cheese salad and also the cauliflower starters were wonderful . The autumn veg tart was delicious with interesting beets and veg in puff pastry . Tiramisu was a delicious dessert so well done all round .
Be the first to ReplyExceptional as always.
One of the best restaurants for a guaranteed pleasant evening in London, while feeling like you’re at a quaint hidden gem on the continent.
Also with a few covered outside tables with decent heaters to accommodate the world we now live in.
Great food, great wine, great setting.
