When you visit Les Nomades, you are unknowingly getting a bit of a history lesson in culinary arts. Few realize that Roland Liccioni was the chef at Le Francais ...the restaurant that elevated fine dining in the US. Roland and his wife own and operate Les Nomades and you will not find a better dining experience in Chicago if great food is your vision. The space is intimate and romantic but not sterile like many great restaurants that try too hard. It has a relaxed French atmosphere. First, the service was impeccable...like a Four Seasons....people catered to your every whim from taking our coats and boots (it was a blizzard outside), to taking our drink orders, to explaining the menu and always checking on us to make sure everything was perfect. This creates the perfect backdrop for the star of the show...the food. How about this for a menu? Foi gras....warm lobster salad...wagyu...and grand marnier souffle. All paired with perfect wines...from rose champagne to start...to Sancerre...to St. Esteph...to Sauternes. I am not sure I have ever had a better meal. Sometimes, "old school" isn't out of touch or long in the tooth. Sometimes, "old school" kicks the upstart kids behinds and shows them how it is done. Bravo, Roland and Mary Beth....I think the Michelin star doesnt even begin to the tell the story of your amazing restaurant.
