beautiful place
Situated in the heart of the Palais Royal, Le Grand Véfour is steeped in history and culinary excellence. Dating back to the 18th century, this legendary restaurant has hosted luminaries such as Victor Hugo and Napoleon Bonaparte. Today, it continues to impress diners with its elegant ambiance and impeccable service. Chef Guy Martin's innovative dishes celebrate French gastronomy while incorporating modern techniques, making Le Grand Véfour a destination for discerning food enthusiasts

It’s the timeless decoration that gives this restaurant its charm. We had the daily menu, good but nothing original. The welcome, however, is very pleasant and all the staff “provide” with elegance and kindness. Because the atmosphere is a little dull, you can almost hear the flies flying (to be taken in the second degree). No appetizers or sweets at the end of the meal, that’s okay. Just oil to dip your bread in. Finally, we still had a good evening thanks to the quality of the staff.

I had read the TripAdvisor reviews which in hindsight can understand why they were very mixed reviews. No longer by choice a two star Michelin star restaurant. To be honest had hoped and wanted it to be a special visit but it wasn’t for reason I will set out here. The reception and welcome were outstanding, the restaurant setting quite historic,,the food , bland and disappointing. Ordinary. The question is, would I go again, NO….

Yes, its small, historic and french. Thats the charm. The food (blue lobster, octupus salad) was very nice. Julien, the head waiter was friendly and helped with fitting wines. Not pretentious. A lovely place.

nice place, long service and not the quality of the place, a la carte menu more than ordinary: uncooked egg as a starter, pork cheek of some sort, fortunately the scallops were good since they were lukewarm tending to be cold and the tasteless puree. We had good memories and now only the magical place remains

The place is magnificent and waiting in the garden of the Palais Royal is full of charm. Sitting in the "Colette" place adds even more to the charm and then... patatra 45 minutes later, we were still waiting for our starter (Foie gras which was very good). And finally (we had chosen the first service), the traffic jam at the exit brings you back to reality... the Grand Véfour has become a Brasserie which does not yet have the rhythm and which has retained the old prices ( therefore rather high).

Pas bonne !!!!! Not good at all !!!!! Sorry for the chef formerly well known he lost it all !!! From the beginning till the end simply not good
Be the first to ReplyWonderful according to this problem...
Everything ok..but..we didn't like that they piled up the dirty dishes on a large table in the middle of the room, next to the guests' tables! so we watched them first scraping up the dirty dishes, then piling them up for the bus boy to take away...much later! not pleasant!!

We already knew about Grand Vefour and wanted to try the new “weekly” menu. On the menu tuna tartare and poultry supreme. Probably frozen tuna with no taste and a pasty texture, bland poultry barely enhanced by a kumquat sauce. We skipped dessert. How can you get there when you've been a big restaurant?

Disappointment, this adjective encapsulates the whole concept of my dinner at "Le Grand Vefour" after research on historic places in Paris, I book a table at Le Grand Vefour for Valentine's Day dinner, I expected a private and elegant place, but all 'other, they made us sit at a table that touched the adjacent tables (I say tables because in fact they are tables and not tables) when we spoke those who were sitting at the next table heard all our conversations and vice versa, the waiters to serve my partner who was sitting in front of me had to stretch over my finger because there wasn't really enough lateral space to do the service. Judgment on the menu? Mediocre, certainly not up to the name of the place and the price paid.
Be the first to ReplyGood but not excellent.
i was expecting more. The service is average plus. The risotto is not what you have in Italy, the Caviar is average at best. The environment is great. Perfect location, in the Royal gardens.
Be the first to ReplyAmazing - one of the best ever dining experience
What a place and what an evening! We've travelled lots in our life. In various continents in countless countries. Seen a whole lot of wonderful France as well. And this here was one of the very very best dining experiences in our lifes. Had a reservation (highly recommended) and were taken care of in the best ways from the moment we've stepped through the door. Lots of staff will take care of you. Your coats, your drinks, your wine, to serve and to clean the table. To help you with the menu. Staff was excellent - all of them. Professional from beginning to end. The setting is breathtaking. It's the oldest restaurant in Paris. Napoleon dined here before. It's an amazing setting. And we got a wonderful table for two to enjoy the night. The menu has interesting items. There were some specials as well and a lower priced fixed 3-court menu, but we didn't go for that. Got served some very nice bread with olive oil. A bottle of mineral water with that. For starters we ordered a portion of Caviar and Foie Gras (Canard) Terrine. Two glasses of Chablis with that. Caviar was wonderful. Not too fishy, not too salty. Perfect balance of flavours. 20g portion, which was a nice size for one person. The Foie was equally great. Possibly the best one I've ever had ... and I've had many! For the main we chose one of the Chef's Specials. The beef filet with truffle sauce, mashed potatoes and spinach. The meat was perfect and perfectly cooked by order. Soft, tender, meaty. Amazing. And the truffle sauce was divine. And there was a LOT of truffle sauce - they certainly didn't hold back there. Spinach was great too. High quality. Even the mashed potatoes were amazing. Everything just had such a high standard. We were pretty full after that. But ordered a cheese platter to share. A nice selection of soft and hard french cheeses. Loved it. For the main we ordered a bottle of red wine. "Vosne-Romanée" - Les Barreaux from 2019. A Burgundy. And what a Burgundy. Smooth, silky, rich. With balanced tannins. 150 Euros for that....and worth every single cent. It's been a while since we've tasted wine this great. A perfect evening. Staff, food, setting. Everything top-class (and more). You pay a bit more here, yes (we were aware of that). But you really get quality for the price here. Drinks, food, staff. We've spent about 460 Euros this evening. And really felt it was worth it. I don't mind spending that much once in a while when we get this much in return. A night we won't forget. Highly recommended!
Be the first to ReplyMediocre and sad experience
This was our first time to what is supposed to be a landmark in Paris. Contrary to the myth in Emily in Paris we got a table easily in a few days and the place was 30% full midweek. The restaurant retains many of its original features but it is run down and tired - like most of the staff. The food was mediocre at best and the typical French menu that probably hasn’t changed for 25 years. There are so many more creative, inventive, energetic restaurants in Paris that would put this place to shame at one third the price. It is also the first restaurant in Paris I have been to where the waiter was drinking wine whilst serving - I assume he thought we could not see him. Don’t waste your time and money here …. It is yet another restaurant in Paris that has past its sell by date.
Be the first to ReplyEnd of an era
Massively disappointing dinner not a patch on what it used to be even 5 years ago and I have been going there for 30 years on and off. Brasserie quality food, indifferent inattentive service, trading on its stunning surroundings and old repute I wonder really how long this will survive. End of an era for me I won’t be going back.
Be the first to ReplyGreat lunch!
We thoroughly enjoyed our lunch here. I have seen reviews about bad service. We had great service and got out in a little over an hour and we did every course including coffee and cheese and dessert…. Maybe it’s because we got the earliest reservation… we have gone here on every trip to Paris and always loved it. Yes the menu has been downgraded but they do have some specials from the old menu. Which we got and loved. Most disappointing of all was the cheese course. Before they would wheel out a cart and you could pick cheese but now they select them for you and i could only eat one of the five. The chef came out and spoke with each table. I can’t wait to go back!

Beautiful restaurant with spacious outside seating area. Service was very good. Food was fine but wasn’t as good as expected. But appreciate the more accessible prices.
Be the first to ReplyGo for former glory and legacy, not for exceptional food
From gastronomic point of view Le grand Vefour is no more. The reason for the decline is economical, the restaurant became a victim of a pandemic closure. The food is very average, the menu is limited and very uninspiring. The setting is the same, the plaques with famous names are still there.
Be the first to ReplyNot a good expérience.
The food is a good ’brasserie’ food: joue de porc and bavette, foie gras was perfectly cooked, deserts were also good but not the best ever The wine list is amazing, we had an old Saumur Champigny that we all enjoyed and it was a great discovery But the service was really the worst I have seen for a while. The welcome was inexistant. We had to wait 20 minutes to get someone coming with the wine list and then 10 minutes to get the wine, then 10 minutes to out the order. Globally more than 40 minutes to order without any smile. The only time when we really saw someone was when we have a tip and I really don’t understand why… the lady with short haïr and small glasses was really the worst.but was there to take the tip. The sommelier was finally help full after our choice. The young lady for desert was also very nice but the crew was globally very important going into all directions but no leader. The interns were yeld at… something need to change…. All in all I would not recommend.
