After fake invoice terrible
Luxury restaurant, provided fake invoice, we were laughing a lot - maybe they thought we were drunk. Invoice 10.000 euro too expensive
Be the first to ReplyLe Clarence for Lunch
My 4th visit to Le Clarence and as usual the food, service and ambience are still amazing.I had a luncheon booking and was greeted with a very friendly bonjour and taken to my preferred table which gave me a view of the restaurant and the interaction between staff and customer. Each course was explained in detail and I had champagne and a glass of Haut- Brion which sadly was not up to standard and replaced(but still charged for)It is about fine dining on an extraordinary level.Highly recommended !
Be the first to ReplyTerrible, not deserving 2 Stars...
Terrible experience.. Sorry but in my opinion not deserving 2 stars! Restaurant Decor and atmosphere were amazing, nothing to say about that. On the other hand, the service was terrible! They were not able to serve the plates at the same time, not all dishes were properly explained. Overall, I can say that there was a big confusion going on. Many mistakes that should NOT happen in a 2 star Michelin restaurant, considering the cost and reputation of the restaurant. The food, not going to say much because this is very subjective. You can like it or hate it. I would say that coming from an asian background the food is quite boring, nothing special. I guess the chef takes inspiration from Japanese cuisine. Overall, very bad experience!

Perfection! The setting is lovely and the “surprise tasting menu” is delightful. Wonderful flavors and the wine parings worked beautifully. The service was attentive & impeccable. This was our first time at Le Clarence and we were not disappointed. We will definitely return.

This divine restaurant deserves far more credit than some of the previous contributors have given it. And you should question just how many of the previous negative contributors have really experienced Michelin fine dining around the world? You will see from our previous reviews we HAVE dined at some of the best restaurants around the world, so we understand and appreciate what it takes for these fine dining establishments to achieve and retain Michelin recognition. From the moment we stepped foot inside the beautiful building, the service was utter perfection. Friendly yet professional, with not an ounce of stuffiness some French high end restaurants are known for. The 4 course degustation went for 4 hours… every dish was impeccable and well balanced. The wine list and staff knowledge of their product was also impressive. There is no question in our minds we would return to Le Clarence the next time we are in Paris.
Be the first to ReplyVery slow service and a bit of a jumble
To preface, we lived in Paris for 10 years and now live in Manhattan- eat in many Michelin starred restaurants so we are familiar with high end so dining and the tasting menu concept. Our meal was simply confusing. Just trying to get a copy of the wine list took forever. Then when we chose the wine, the sommelier poured it into our empty champagne glasses (which had been sitting empty for a while as we waited for the wine list) in order to taste. He gave us new glasses afterwards but who does that? The food was quite good- many small and interesting dishes but they come out whenever they’re ready so sometimes there was a long wait with no food and at other times too much would come out at once. Honestly, we enjoyed most of the dishes very much and the chef is obviously very talented but the front of house staff needs more training. They meant well but seemed overwhelmed. Anyway, I wish I could give it 3.5 stars. The setting is lovely, very elegant dining rooms but constantly having to ask for our wine or water in our glasses was annoying and not what one expects from a two star experience.
Be the first to ReplyOutstanding. Incredible.
From the moment we entered through the door we were treated to like kings and queens. An incredible high level of service completed at the end of the night by a meeting with the Chef Christophe Pele in the kitchen and watching him guide his team with passion and attention to detail. The food was a serious culinary journey, every dish full with interesting flavours. And the setting makes you feel like you are dining in a another era in time. All this and we took our 2 kids, who experienced the most memorable dining experience of their lives. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. If you want to be treated one of the worlds best chefs and dining experiences you must go to Le Clarence. 10 out of 10…!!

The food was crap! Saved by good service. Served dory fish and the sauces for it and Razor clam was horrible. I spend 400 euros for the worse meal of my entire trip! I added 90 euros worth of Truffle to the fish dish. Never felt so cheated by a Michelin Star restaurant. Should review.
Be the first to ReplyNo pride in their food
We took the 5 course meal in Dec 2022 and left extremely disappointed. The first two dishes started lovely and we were looking forward to building up to the mains. However, we started to notice something amiss after 3 scallop dishes started tasting like the chef had a scored a bounty of scallops but ran out of ways to showcase them. One scallop portion came out rather plain. The tempura langoustine claw was good but I’m not sure if it’s sauce didn’t come from its decade old grandmother. The pasta which came with a langoustine sauce was so salty that I couldn’t take more than 2 bites without downing a whole glass of water. Perhaps the chef badly wanted to showcase the taste of the Dead Sea to jolt us out of our jet lagged stupor. Or maybe it was to gastronomically motivate us to order a bottle from their extensive collection of Chateau Haut Brion to wash down the salinity (Haut Brion is a label belonging to the same onwer). Or maybe it is just the fact that the sous chef did not even know how salty the dish tasted. Thinking mine was the exception, we swapped the same dish around and all agreed that they were all of different saltiness. At this point, no mama bear appeared to ask us how our food tasted, it must be our Goldilocks day! There was at least another dish that was over salted, but by then, it didn’t occur to me to want to pay a couple hundreds of Euro and still waste my time taking notes. The razor clams with its accompaniment sauce was a mystery. I am not born with a silver palate, but a curdling thick white cream sauce does not do any justice to the natural sweetness of the razor clam, never mind how many Marie-Antoine Carême anointed methods were used to create the essence of the special white sauce. At the risk of sounding like a fish snob, It was also a mystery why a 2 star Michelin restaurant will serve John Dory fish as one of its mains. Not to be mistaken as the poisson du jour, I read a 2019 review of them using the same fish. We also took a bite at the mains and returned it to the kitchen very much untouched. While taste may be a subjective matter and I am not here to dispute on the nuances and preferences of it, the staff and chef certainly at no point asked about why we were dissatisfied. It also didn’t faze them that we returned 4 dishes of mains after 1 bite. We had at least the expected from a 2 Michelin star restaurant to have enough professional pride to understand what was causing such a big gap in expectations. I supposed there was just no pride in what they are serving as long as the cash register rings. Perhaps we were just unlucky. Maybe the chef had some Spanish affinity and losing the World Cup Match to Morocco that day was the straw that broke his culinary tastebud. Perhaps we should have moved a few arrondisments away and helped ourselves to a “no Michelin star” Moroccan chickpea tagine. While we might have left with no enviable Michelin picutures to post on our Instagram for others to envy, I would have rather not waste so much money on a meal that I would I not be proud to post anywhere about, except here to warn some others thinking of blowing a few hundred euros on food better spent elsewhere. Go at your own risk, or at least put it on the company’s corporate card for this.

This place is so special. It is meals, wine list, wallpaper, decorations, location and the service- it is all special. It is on the World's 50 Best List for good reason. I will absolutely come back if I am ever in Paris again. The chef uses unusual flavor combinations I can not get anywhere else. It is very creative what he does with food. This is for foodies and gourmet-lovers only. If you think Jack n Box is a good time, then this place is not for you.
Be the first to ReplyBEST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCE EVER!!!
We travel for food and eat at Michelin star restaurants frequently and have to say that this was our absolute FAVORITE dining experience ever!!! It exceeded our expectations and although we came for lunch and I am hoping we can return for the dinner service. First off, each course creative and came with a combination of various dishes that complemented each other. We enjoyed every course ranging from the delicious baby clams, various fish dishes and even the amazing brioche! Dessert was amazing as well! What made the experience even better was their introduction to the wonderful kitchen staff and the Executive Chef Pele and Sous Chef who was also a fellow Korean. The serving staff was also so welcoming and they did an excellent job of always having our drinks filled and also describing each dish they were bringing to us with great detail. The ambience and the decor is grandiose and we loved every minute of our experience at this restaurant. What an incredible experience. We would fly back to Paris to dine at this restaurant again. Thank you Le Clarence. We know you will continue to delight all of your guests with your exceptional food and service.
Be the first to ReplyNice but overrated!
We were very intrigued by this restaurant as it has just appeared on the 50 Best Restaurant list. However, we were disappointed. The building and rooms are quite pretty, but the atmosphere is very sedate and too quiet. The service was slower than expected, and it did not feel like an upbeat place. The staff was pleasant but somewhat condescending to us. The food was good and there were a lot of unusual combinations, but it did not compare to other top restaurants in Paris and seems overrated. We have eaten at several other 2- and 3-star restaurants in Paris, and frankly, this was the least of them. One other very odd thing -- they often left dirty silverware on the table for us to reuse, rather than changing the silverware as it was used. This is very atypical of this level of restaurant and was unpleasant to have dirty silverware placed back on the table in between dishes, and then be re3quired to reuse it.
Be the first to ReplyUnbelievable dining experience
in summary, this was an unbelievable five hour culinary extravaganza. From the time we walked in, we noticed a warm and approachability of all staff. There was no stuffiness despite the gorgeous room and attention to detail was endless. The head waiter Ivan made a special effort to be personable and attend to every need. While we ordered the seven course tasting menu, including three different types of bread during the feast, 29 different items were placed in front of us. Each one was described and outlined in detail. We felt that the staff was friendly to each other and one time a waiter put his arm around Ivan almost as though they were family. This created a unique culinary experience without the stuffiness and formality of some of the other 2 and 3 Michelin restaurants where we dined. We loved Le Clarence and it is only a short period time before it is elevated to three stars without a doubt. What is in no way a cheap meal, it was memorable in every way and one of the highlights of our trip!!!!!!!
Be the first to ReplyElegant, creative but still traditional
Le Clarence is everything you hope it will be. It's a wonderfully elegant and historic property in a central Parisian location. The front of house staff are as elegant as the interior décor and it feels a little like dining in a palace. The food is a surprising contrast of traditional and modern. Traditional in the choice of ingredients, the cheese trolley, many of the preparation styles. Modern in the 'chef's choice' tasting menu and some surprising concepts and techniques used.
Service was superb and spoken English was widespread and fluent, which helped me with my schoolboy French. Don't get me wrong though, despite the international clientele the restaurant attracts, its remains classically French and a perfect destination for those wishing to sample the high end of contemporary cooking in one of the centres of classical gastronomy.
Food intolerances were accommodated perfectly and achieved the level of technical skill we hope and dream of experiencing - honestly doubting that some of the dishes could be brought about without using gluten and dairy products. Rest assured, they were.
We also had some doubts that my partner's intolerances would limit our dinner to just the 3 course menu but it transpired to be 3 courses of 4 separate dishes and 4 hours later, we got into a taxi, delighted after a evening well spent, full of pleasures with a lot of pleasant surprises.
Without wishing to give the game away, the tasting started on an awkward note - a seared scallop with seaweed and torched orange. For me, it missed the mark - the initial orange-free taste felt like the bottom of a rock pool but was improved as the orange kicked in. Then onto the next preparations, and notably one with scallop and mushrooms, and my palate exploded - 4 stages of taste from a small dish with 5 of so components, each of them in perfect balance. This is pretty much the way it continued throughout the rest of the meal. Special mention must be made of the turbot collagen preparations (using all of the rare fish in a innovative and delicious way) and small clams in a broth which I'd pay serious money for the recipe. I dream of being able replicate it myself on a summer's evening with a crisp white and some crusty bread.
If I had any criticism, it was that good value wines seemed hard to locate in the exhaustive wine lists. That's not a surprise for a restaurant like this but it's still a shock when the bill has more relating to drinks than the food when it of this standard.
Overall, I'd be delighted to return and I'd recommend it without any reservations - Le Clarence deserves its long-standing accolades and offers a rare hybrid of classical and modern, all served in a very special location.
