Le Clarence Paris Reviews from The Last Year
After fake invoice terrible
Luxury restaurant, provided fake invoice, we were laughing a lot - maybe they thought we were drunk. Invoice 10.000 euro too expensive
Le Clarence for Lunch
My 4th visit to Le Clarence and as usual the food, service and ambience are still amazing.I had a luncheon booking and was greeted with a very friendly bonjour and taken to my preferred table which gave me a view of the restaurant and the interaction between staff and customer. Each course was explained in detail and I had champagne and a glass of Haut- Brion which sadly was not up to standard and replaced(but still charged for)It is about fine dining on an extraordinary level.Highly recommended !
Terrible, not deserving 2 Stars...
Terrible experience.. Sorry but in my opinion not deserving 2 stars! Restaurant Decor and atmosphere were amazing, nothing to say about that. On the other hand, the service was terrible! They were not able to serve the plates at the same time, not all dishes were properly explained. Overall, I can say that there was a big confusion going on. Many mistakes that should NOT happen in a 2 star Michelin restaurant, considering the cost and reputation of the restaurant. The food, not going to say much because this is very subjective. You can like it or hate it. I would say that coming from an asian background the food is quite boring, nothing special. I guess the chef takes inspiration from Japanese cuisine. Overall, very bad experience!
Perfection!
Perfection! The setting is lovely and the “surprise tasting menu” is delightful. Wonderful flavors and the wine parings worked beautifully. The service was attentive & impeccable. This was our first time at Le Clarence and we were not disappointed. We will definitely return.
Even though we had 1 small issue, I'm still giving 5 stars.
Even though it's not the BEST meal I've ever had, this Michelin 2-star still was top notch. From the minute you are buzzed into this palatial mansion, you are treated like royalty. There are always people waiting on you - waiter, host, sommelier, server. Unreal. Dining rooms are elegant and our table had a view of the kitchen with 8-10 chefs. They offer a 3, 5 or 7 course tasting. After debating between the 3 or 5, and reading other Yelpers, we decided on the 3-course, which was a good decision. As other Yelpers have pointed out, the 5 course can take 4-5 hours. Our 3-course clocked in at 2.5 hours, which was perfect. And worth noting that it's not really 3 courses. After the amuse bouche(s?), each of the 3 courses contained 4-5 small dishes, each brought out separately, with explanations in English. So in all, we probably had 16-17 dishes! I lost count. Near the end, we contemplated adding the cheese cart which looked amazing, but opted out and glad we did. We were stuffed to the gills. All of the dishes were expertly crafted, artistic and delicious. Our only issue was the pacing for courses 1 & 2. We actually had to tell them to slow down as, at one point, we each had 3-4 plates on our table and we wanted to savor the flavors, rather than eat everything quickly. When the host/Maître d' asked us near the end of the 2nd course if everything was OK, we let him know about this, he apologized profusely and we tried to let him know we weren't upset, just trying to give constructive criticism ('cause he asked!). Not sure if he took it well or just smiled and hated us, but we couldn't not say something. Anyway, all of that said, I still give them 5 stars. They even let us go back to the kitchen and watch it in action for 2-3 minutes. Overall, a memorable dining experience. Highly recommend. (maybe book 3-4 weeks out, minimum, FYI)
Parisian Perfection
This divine restaurant deserves far more credit than some of the previous contributors have given it. And you should question just how many of the previous negative contributors have really experienced Michelin fine dining around the world? You will see from our previous reviews we HAVE dined at some of the best restaurants around the world, so we understand and appreciate what it takes for these fine dining establishments to achieve and retain Michelin recognition. From the moment we stepped foot inside the beautiful building, the service was utter perfection. Friendly yet professional, with not an ounce of stuffiness some French high end restaurants are known for. The 4 course degustation went for 4 hours… every dish was impeccable and well balanced. The wine list and staff knowledge of their product was also impressive. There is no question in our minds we would return to Le Clarence the next time we are in Paris.
Very slow service and a bit of a jumble
To preface, we lived in Paris for 10 years and now live in Manhattan- eat in many Michelin starred restaurants so we are familiar with high end so dining and the tasting menu concept. Our meal was simply confusing. Just trying to get a copy of the wine list took forever. Then when we chose the wine, the sommelier poured it into our empty champagne glasses (which had been sitting empty for a while as we waited for the wine list) in order to taste. He gave us new glasses afterwards but who does that? The food was quite good- many small and interesting dishes but they come out whenever they’re ready so sometimes there was a long wait with no food and at other times too much would come out at once. Honestly, we enjoyed most of the dishes very much and the chef is obviously very talented but the front of house staff needs more training. They meant well but seemed overwhelmed. Anyway, I wish I could give it 3.5 stars. The setting is lovely, very elegant dining rooms but constantly having to ask for our wine or water in our glasses was annoying and not what one expects from a two star experience.
